The film stars Malek has music icon Freddie Mercury, and he is a huge frontrunner to win Best Actor at next month’s Oscars. The film itself is nominated for Best Picture after winning the top honour at the Golden Globes – but unrest is continuing to grow amid continuing reports of allegations of abuse made against Singer (which he has denied). Yesterday GLAAD revoked its nomination for Best Original Film.

Speaking on Tuesday, just days before GLAAD made its announcement and in the immediate aftermath of his Oscars nod, Malek clarified that he had no knowledge of the claims made against Singer when he was making the film.

“As far as I knew, I was considered before Bryan was even attached,” he told the LA Times.

“So I had my head down preparing for this for about a year ahead of time, and I never really looked up.

“I didn’t know much about Bryan. I think that the allegations and things were, believe it or not, honestly something I was not aware of, and that is what it is.

“Who knows what happens with that… but I think somehow we found a way to persevere through everything that was thrown our way.”

He added: “Perhaps that was Freddie himself doing it, because we wanted to make a product that was worthy of him. Who knows?

“I’m just proud that this cast and crew collectively raised their game and we depended on one another.

“It was a testament to everyone’s spirit and courage and skill. And one thing I will say about everyone — almost everyone — we never gave up. How about that?”

On his own nod at the Academy Awards, he beamed: “It is huge. It is huge. This is the cream of the crop for what we do, and to get this acknowledgment from the academy, it’s one of the most momentous moments I think I’ll have in life.”

Malek is rumoured to be playing the villain in the next James Bond movie, but this is completely unconfirmed.

The Oscars will take place next month. Bohemian Rhapsody also has multiple nominations at the BAFTAs.

The movie is still playing in cinemas.

Jones won the UFC light heavyweight title against Daniel Cormier last summer, but as it was later revealed, he had failed an out-of-competition urine test carried out one day prior the fight.

The CSAC subsequently annulled Jones’ victory after the results of his doping test were announced, and reinstated Cormier as its champion. During a hearing in California, Jones was criticized for his “flimsy” defense, failing to convince the CSAC commission which unanimously voted to ban the former UFC champion.

Nevertheless, the commission expressed its hope that the athlete will fight again as soon as possible.

“Mr. Jones, I want to see you fighting as soon as possible,” CSAC chair John Cavelli said. “I hope you believe me. I hope you’re listening to some of the things I’ve told you and the other commissioners. Think about the people around you and the things you’re still doing. You are a unique, outstanding athlete. We want to see you in the cage as soon as possible. Come back to us.”

This is the second drug violation of Jones’ career. In 2016 he was forced to serve a one-year suspension after two banned anti-estrogenic agents were detected in his doping probe.

Jones argued that the banned substances were ingredients of a tainted sexual enhancement pill he had consumed. Jones also faces a maximum four year suspension from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), which discovered his failed test.

Booth, 34, tweeted to his near 3,000 followers: “Some people would enjoy it if I got killed in a boxing ring like Scott Westgarth,” punctuated with the hashtag #MANDOWN.

Westgarth died on Sunday after collapsing in his dressing room following a post-fight interview on Saturday, having won an unforgiving 10-round fight over the previously-unbeaten Dec Spelman on Saturday night.

His death was one that touched the boxing world and led to many tributes. Despite receiving a profoundly negative reaction to his choice tweet, Booth then followed up with a comment referencing Gerald McClellan, who was left permanently brain damaged and disabled after fighting Nigel Benn in 1995.

“To those complaining about my tweet about the boxer who got killed recently, I’m boxing myself in 2 weeks and I’ve spent the past 3 months drinking cider and not training properly so there’s a [good] chance I’ll end up in a wheelchair like Gerald McClellan, so tune in,” Booth wrote, signing off with the same hashtag.

In response, the BBBofC suspended super-middleweight Booth’s license with immediate effect, putting paid to any planned outings.

Booth’s trainer Dominic Ingle, who runs the Ingle Gym where Westgarth trains in Sheffield, called the tweets inappropriate and said that the matter will be dealt with internally with guidance from the board.

“The inappropriate comments tweeted recently by Tyan Booth will be dealt with by the Ingle Gym & BBBofC. He has been asked to remove them,” Ingle tweeted.

His tweets were met with anger and bewilderment in the boxing world, with many condemning them as “disgusting.” One of those was Westgarth’s brother, Adam, who wrote: “You nasty piece of s***, my brother has accomplished more than you ever have and ever will! You take that down or I will take you out. I promise. You don’t deserve to be recognised as a boxer.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says he wouldn’t want a “race of bans” between Russia and the US, as the Russian State Duma mulls a tit-for-tat response to the revoking of RT’s press accreditation in Congress.

The minister was speaking at a joint press conference with his Italian counterpart, Angelino Alfano, on Friday, where an RT correspondent asked him about Moscow’s response to the US congressional press office’s decision this week to revoke RT America’s credentials citing its status of a “foreign agent.”

“We have been studying the situation that has happened with your company. I’m convinced that it’s absolutely unacceptable for any more or less respectable, civilized country,” Lavrov said. He went on to note that while Russian Foreign Ministry is so far undecided on whether to take any reciprocal actions, he would prefer not to add fuel to the already raging fire.

Pursuant to Russian law, the Foreign Ministry has the final say in the accreditation of all foreign correspondents in Russia’s state bodies and may, in turn, impose restrictions on their activity if the countries they registered in limit operations of the Russian media.  

Lavrov’s call for restraint comes at a time the State Duma Regulations Committee said it is mulling a ban on all visits by US journalists working for the US media to the Russian Parliament. The Committee’s head, Olga Savastyanova, said on Friday she expects the motion to be approved on the State Duma plenary session next week and come into force by the end of the week.

The State Duma has been working together with the Foreign Ministry on Moscow’s response to the withdrawal of RT America’s Capitol Hill accreditation, State Duma Vice-Speaker Pyotr Tolstoy said on Thursday. Keeping “foreign agent” media in Russia out of the Duma is one of the options being considered.

Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he “absolutely understands” why the lawmakers are suggesting it, decrying what he described as “blatant attacks in violation of the freedom of speech” on the Russian media in the US.

RT America (officially registered as T&R Productions LLC) filed as a foreign agent on November 10 under pressure from the US authorities, who threatened legal action if it refused to comply. In a mirror response, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law, allowing Russian authorities to brand certain foreign media “foreign agents.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — An Obama-era immigration program intended to protect parents of US citizens and legal residents from deportation has been formally cancelled, fulfilling a key campaign promise from President Donald Trump, the Homeland Security Department announced late Thursday.

Homeland Security John Kelly formally revoked a policy memo that created the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans program. The revocation came on the fifth anniversary of another effort that has protected hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation.

The program to protect parents was announced by President Barack Obama in November 2014 but was never fully launched. It was intended to keep the immigrant parents safe from deportation and provide them with a renewable work permit good for two years, but it was blocked by a federal judge in Texas after 26 states filed suit against the federal government and challenged the effort’s legality. Republicans decried the effort at “backdoor amnesty” and argued that Obama overstepped his authority by protecting a specific class of immigrants living in the United States illegally.

The protection program for parents, like the one for young immigrants, was created with a policy memo during the Obama administration. Both programs required that participants meet certain conditions, including not having a criminal history. As part of the expansion to protect immigrant parents living in the United States illegally, the Obama administration also sought to provide the young immigrants with work permits good for three years at a time. That provision was also blocked by the Texas judge.

Revoking the memo and ending the stalled program fulfill a key campaign promise by Trump, who pledged to “immediately” cancel both efforts. Trump has not said what he plans to do about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, but so far most immigrants protected by the effort have not been targeted by stepped-up efforts to find and deport immigrants living in the country illegally. As of March 31, about 787,000 young immigrants have been approved for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, according to government data.

Arrests of immigrants in the interior of the country have increased under the Trump administration, but deportations are slightly down as fewer people have been caught crossing the Mexican border into the United States illegally.

Trump has made immigration enforcement a top priority and has vowed to continue a crackdown on those living in US illegally and those trying to sneak into the country.
