Clara Amfo and Aljaz Skorjanec were the first couple taking to the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor on Saturday evening as they hoped to bounce back from an underwhelming performance last week. Kicking the BBC show off with a jive, the fast-paced routine sadly appeared to get the better of the Radio 1 DJ however, after a series of missteps and awkward timing fails. And with the competition now in full swing, judge Craig Revel Horwood did not mince his words when it came to his criticism. Moments after their routine, Clara and Aljaz turned to Craig for his thoughts on the dance. And he let loose: “You lost your balance on the leap at the beginning and I think that set you off on a bit of a wobbly, darling. “You need to be a lot higher up on your toes in this dance as well. “You lost your footing through the chase section, (and) you forgot the routine halfway through which was unfortunate.” READ MORE: Tess Daly’s dress distracts Strictly Come Dancing fans as she ‘blends’ into set Their score also landed them at the bottom of the leaderboard heading into the public vote. However, it doesn’t seem to have put Strictly viewers off who took to social media in their hundreds to throw their support behind the star. Sadly, the same couldn’t be said for the likes of Bill Bailey and Clara Amfo, who both were pulled up for missing steps in their respective dances. “Right @claraamfo stans,” said one fan on Twitter. “It’s time to save Clara again with the vote #Strictly.” The soap star’s chances of winning currently stand at 2/1, with The Wanted singer Max George, 32, her hottest competition at 5/1. “We think that Maisie is the one to beat on the dance floor this year and price her up as the hot favourite to win Strictly 2020,” Coral spokesperson Harry Aitkenhead said. On the other end of the spectrum, comedian Bill Bailey, 55, and former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, 57, are at 50/1 to win. “We think that Bill and Jacqui are going to be battling it out to avoid being the first celebrity of the series to be eliminated, and their odds of winning are very long indeed,” Aitkenhead added. Strictly Come Dancing returns this month on BBC One. Strictly Come Dancing has become a British institution and something fans of the BBC dance show look forward to each and every Autumn. Craig Revel Horwood, 55, is just one of the judges of the panel, critiquing a whole plethora of celebrity talent from all corners of the star-studded world. With the coronavirus crisis bringing the world to a halt in recent months, bosses were working hard to try and come up with a way the programme could still go ahead, whilst adhering to social distancing rules. However, with the rumour mill still in overdrive whether production has been given the green light, the Australian theatre star has now confirmed the news viewers have been waiting for. Production on some of Britain’s most beloved television shows are just starting to get up and running again after the government gave the green light for filming to resume. The Saturday night entertainment programme is not set to air until at least September, meaning there is still some time before viewers get to see celebrities don flamboyant clothes and strut their stuff on the dance floor. With this in mind and appearing on today’s edition of Loose Women, Craig explained the annual extravaganza is still going ahead. Though the format may be slightly different from what viewers are used to as stars of the show will be adhering to social distancing measures. Craig told the ITV panel show presenters: “I’m looking forward to the show because it’s going to be a completely different creative look at it. “I think when you’re pushed into corners, like having two-metre rules and all of that, I think it will make some wonderful TV. “So, it’s going to be interesting and it’s going to be fantastic and I’m super excited because it’s going ahead, finally,” he added. The judge also mentioned the 2020 season could see the show’s first same-sex couple after reports emerged this too could be scrapped this year. It seems bosses have fought back against the programme being axed altogether, which has been at the centre of much debate since the coronavirus crisis hit back in March. Craig and his fellow judges, Shirley Ballas, 59, and Motsi Mabuse, 39, have all been voicing their hopes the programme would return in some format for the past three months. At the moment, it is unknown whether Bruno Tonioli, 64, will be joining the panel, due to his commitments to Dancing With The Stars in America. Until the new season gets underway, there is still a treat for viewers as three special episodes have been commissioned. DON’T MISS… Filmed during the lockdown, hosts Tess Daly, 51, and Claudia Winkleman, 48, will be taking a look back through the archives to relive some of the show’s most memorable moments. Controller of BBC Entertainment, Kate Phillips said: “Strictly Come Dancing has produced so many magical and memorable moments in the movie, musical and Blackpool weeks. “The three special episodes will look back and celebrate these, bringing some much needed Strictly sparkle to the nation.” There is no official word on when the episodes will air, but the rumour mill is still rife as to who could be joining this year’s all-star cast. One such television veteran punters seem to have their eyes on signing up is This Morning star Eamonn Holmes, 60, whose wife Ruth Langsford, 60, took part in 2017. Coral bookmakers have the presenter at 2-1 to be unveiled as a member of this year’s cast list, with his chances having previously been at 3-1. Although, his odds of winning are quite scarce, as he stands at 33-1 to walk away with the Glitterball Trophy. “Eamonn’s wife Ruth took part in Strictly in 2017 and we think he could follow in her footsteps later this year,” Coral spokesperson John Hill said. Strictly Come Dancing returns later this year on BBC One.

1 | Who would have thought that Elite‘s Valerio would turn out to be the most decent human being on the show?
2 | On Power, how was it that not one single Federal officer — or even Alicia’s lawyer — thought it might be prudent to stay in the ladies’ room with the drug kingpin while she was suddenly, violently ill?
3 | Would you rather Succession have not made Roman and Gerri’s newly discovered “dynamic” an ongoing storyline? (Were we the only ones who expected it to in fact barely be referenced again?) Also, what was with the Pierces’ servant, Rosa, on whom the camera lingered a couple of times? Were you waiting for her to play an unexpected role in the already tense proceedings?
4 | Is it strange that USA Network didn’t opt to call Dirty John’s forthcoming second season Dirty Betty instead of the insanely clunky and nonsensical Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story?
5 | On American Ninja Warrior, was anything more heartbreaking than watching Flip Rodriguez time out on the final obstacle?
6 | Given that Stephanie Pratt ended The Hills: New Beginnings‘ finale on good terms with (mostly) everyone, are you surprised by her refusal to return for Season 2?
7 | Would you be more excited for the Ghostwriter reboot if it sounded anything like the premise of the original show? #NotMyGhostwriter
8 | Do you suspect that BH90210 left us with that “We can’t bring all seven of you back” cliffhanger because one cast member in real life adamantly agreed to do only one season of this “reboot”? And as TVLine reader Veronica points out, how can Zach be Jason’s son when we learned earlier this season that Jason can’t have children? (Wasn’t that how he realized Camille had cheated on him?)
9 | Did the return of Esther on Suits, coupled with the ending of this week’s episode, leaving you hoping that we’ll see another sibling — Harvey’s brother — come back next week? Also, Louis is totally going to ask Harvey to be his Best Man, right?
10 | Who else is watching every episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show just to see which song she covers that day? And given Clarkson’s well-expressed love for Lucifer, doesn’t it seem like the pop singer should stop by LUX during the final season to perform a set?
11 | Are TV writers grossly overestimating how many partners call each other “babe”? And of those couples, are they grossly overestimating how often they say “babe” during a single conversation?
12 | How hard will it be to root for any couples if HBO’s Targaryen-centric Game of Thrones spinoff goes forward, given that members of the family routinely married their own siblings?
13 | Who else pictured this when Elizabeth Warren referred to her Aunt Bee in Thursday night’s Democratic debate?
14 | Could Netflix’s The I-Land have been any more on the nose with it’s Lost-iness than by opening with a close-up of an eye opening? Also, for just 10 people, weren’t there a high number of castaways with attitude problems?
15 | Regarding this SNL/Shane Gillis mishegas, is perhaps the most shocking thing that he was deemed funny enough to join the cast?

They won their first-ever regular season game against the Dallas Stars. They won their first-ever home-opener against the Arizona Coyotes.
This season of firsts has exceeded nearly everyone’s expectations – 51 wins, 29 of those at home.
And when it came to their first-ever playoff game in team history, the Golden Knights didn’t disappoint.
Shea Theodore’s scored the winner 3:23 into the team’s historic playoff debut, sending fans into a frenzy, and goalie Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves for the shutout win in the first game of the best-of-seven series against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday.
Inside what they call “The Fortress,” Golden Knights fans stood and cheered relentlessly, wildly waving white towels. The roar when Theodore scored was deafening and they never stopped cheering.
Many of the fans had spent hours outside the arena taking part in the pre-game party before heading into the arena to cheer on their team.
“My dream. This is my dream come true. I love these guys,” season ticket holder Marie Wong said. “No matter what happens we’ll be behind our team.”
Wong was one of thousands of fans dressed in armour, glitter, face-paint and beads who packed into the square in front of the arena. Under a scorching desert sun, they danced, drank and partied as they counted down to puck drop.
“I believe in them,” Wong said. “We needed these guys. We have all the shows but we had no sports.”

Golden Knights fans have taken this first season personally. They like to recall all the naysayers. “It’ll never work,” many repeat in the streets and on the Strip. They laugh at that now.
Even before Wednesday night’s playoff game, as a part pre-game festivities inside the arena an in-house announcer reminded them, “They said this wouldn’t happen. They said we’d be awful.”
The crowd booed and jeered in response. Then they went crazy when they showed highlights of the team winning throughout the season.
It’s a city where many people have come from different cities but now call Vegas home. And this expansion team of players assembled from other rosters is very relatable to those who live in the transient Sin City.
And this embrace of their new hockey stars is evident in the big bucks they’re willing to pay to see them.
The team sold 14,000 season tickets this season. It is the hottest ticket in town. A quick scan over online ticket websites showed the cheapest seat for the first playoff game in Vegas at $ 160 US, with the highest priced seat going for more than $ 1,000 US.
The Golden Knights set an attendance record as 18,479 people packed into T-Mobile Arena on Wednesday night. Capacity for hockey at the venue is 17,500.
Despite being in a celebratory mood, many of the Vegas fans had the Humboldt Broncos on their minds at the game.
Erik Foley and Karl Rutledge showed up in golden suits with custom-made T-shirts underneath, honouring those who lost their lives in the horrific team bus crash in Saskatchewan last Friday.
On the front of their green shirts were the words “We are all Humboldt hockey.”
“The tragedy in Canada has touched all of us as hockey fans,” Foley said. “We wanted to show that this sport is bigger than just one team. We’re a hockey community. We support everyone up there and send all our thoughts and prayers.”
Foley, who is originally from Indianapolis, moved to Vegas years ago. He said the city can empathize with the loss of those in Saskatchewan because of the mass shooting in Vegas on Oct. 1 last year that killed 58 people.

“We share in tragedy here as well. The horrible shooting. It was tragic but it really brought Vegas together as a family,” he said.
Throughout the season, the team has honoured the victims and at the last home game of the year it retired the number 58.
And Rutledge stressed the impact of the Golden Knights on the people of Vegas.
“We’ve been waiting for a team for a long time,” he said. “They always said it wouldn’t work. The true fans wanted something to bring us together and look at us now.”

Appearing on spin-off It Takes Two tonight, the dancer admitted that she thought Craig Revel Horwood had called her and Joe McFadden’s routine “stupid” live on the BBC series.
The hard-to-please judge had left the 28-year-old lost for words for all the wrong reasons when he called their Quickstep, “stupendous”.
Host Zoe Ball asked their pair about their feedback and Katya explained all: “Well, I’m happy you clarified.
“Being a foreigner, when I heard Craig saying ‘stupendous’, I thought it was something to do with stupid.”
Actor Joe, who will this week take on the Samba, laughed: “She didn’t know what it meant! Aw,” as she continued: “I went really quiet. Was it good or not?”
“It was a really good thing!” the 42-year-old reiterated, before she added: “Great, I’m really happy.”
“I can see where that mistake could come from,” Zoe, 47, backed her up, after leaving her hunky companion red-faced.
The star complimented him not once but twice during their chat and many at home quickly agreed with her on Twitter.
“Joe are you looking more handsome than ever today? Or is it the tan? I like it,” Zoe started.
Two users tweeted: “@mrjoemcfadden in a suit and that tan, now I get the dark horse comment #ItTakesTwo #Strictly,” and: “#ITTakesTwo Joe McFadden has the most beautiful eye lashes… totally mesmerizing!”
Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow at 7.05pm on BBC One.
The blonde beauty gave the judge a taste of his own medicine on the BBC extravaganza as she critiqued his role as Miss Hannigan.
The judge looked unrecognisable as he transformed into the villain from West End musical Annie to give a special performance.
At the end of his routine, Tess decided to get her own back on her co-star as she scored him out of 10 using a Pudsey Bear paddle.
The 48-year-old generously awarded Craig with a 10 before commenting: “What a performance, thank you so much.
“I was expecting something fabulous and you did not disappoint.”
However, she then jokingly took a swipe at his notoriously mean marking on Strictly Come Dancing as she quipped: “Yeah, it’s a ten from me – feels good holding up a ten. I think Craig should try it more often. Do you?”
It came after Mel Geidroyc appeared to hit out at Strictly’s head judge Shirley Ballas following a segment including Aston Merrygold.
Fans of the BBC series were stunned when the former JLS star was eliminated from the competition two weeks ago and the presenter couldn’t help but make a joke about his departure.
Following the singer’s appearance on Children in Need, Mel laughed: “It was nice to see Aston Merrygold again… Thanks Shirley.”
Unsurprisingly, those tuning into the show picked up on the cheeky swipe and rushed to Twitter to comment on Mel’s remark.
“Haha Mel got a dig in at Shirley,” one viewer shared, while another added: “Haha did Mel really throw a dig at Shirley over Aston? Haha.”
Strictly Come Dancing airs tonight on BBC One at 6.45pm.
The answer, of course, is that he’s a performer through and through and has known from his earliest days as a dancer in Australia that he made a fab-u-lous woman.
In the 1980s he even dressed as his female alter ego Lavish, a gorgeous leggy red-head standing almost 7ft in her stilettoes and he’s established himself as Britain’s glitziest pantomime dame.
These are skills that Craig is bringing to the Piccadilly Theatre for the next 10 weeks as he takes over the role from Miranda Hart.
“I’d already played the role on tour so when the chance came to come into the West End to play Miss Hannigan I couldn’t wait to get back to it,” he says.

Craig Revel Horwood is to play Miss Hannigan in Annie at London’s Piccadilly Theatre
“She’s pretty awful to the kids in the orphanage – not physically but certainly emotionally – but I try to play her with a bit of sympathy.
“She’s probably been mistreated herself so you can see why she is the way she is. And I always try to make characters like that a bit vampy.
“Miranda plays the role very differently from me but I’ve been to see her and really enjoyed her performance.”
Craig may be known for his po-faced putdowns as Strictly’s most judgmental judge but if he carried that persona into real life, he wouldn’t get so much other work.
Away from the Elstree dancefloor persona, Craig is warm and funny company and his love of what he does is infectious. His current workload would floor most people: he won’t have a single day off for months.
“I’m doing six shows a week in Annie, with Saturdays off to do Strictly, and when the theatre’s dark on a Tuesday I’m doing some Evenings With… at Hilton Hotels, which came up before the Annie role.”
This is in addition to the recently launched touring musical Son Of A Preacher Man, based on the songs of Dusty Springfield, which he has directed and choreographed, and the myriad other projects he has going on.
“I love being busy and being able to put so much time into these projects – and not being in a relationship helps!” he laughs.
I meet 52-year-old Craig two days after the new series of Strictly began and he’s delighted to be back in the old routine. How does he feel about working with new chief judge Shirley “Queen of Latin” Ballas, a woman who looks to be as hard to please as he is?
“Shirley’s a legend,” he says.
“She’s already coached several of the Strictly professionals, including Kevin and Joanne Clifton, and I think her involvement will really raise the game of the professional dancers. Some of them have already asked her not to look too closely at certain aspects of their performances.”
When it comes to criticism, unlike some talent show judges, Craig can take it as well as dish it out.
“When I played the Wicked Queen in pantomime in Llandudno in 2009, I hadn’t been on stage in 16 years and of course I was nervous. But I was well aware that, because of Strictly, anyone who saw the show might want to review it using the same words that I use to judge the dancers and that’s OK.
BBC

“Some actors don’t like to read reviews as they think it negatively affects their performances but I just think criticism is a way of improving it. I’m happy to dance with Ann Widdecombe (with whom he’s appeared in panto twice) and put my cards on the table.”
You get the impression that Craig would be good fun to work with, whichever of his well-received acting/ directing/ choreographing hats he’s wearing. Working with young performers and encouraging children and families to see live theatre is particularly important to him and he has nothing but praise for the children in the Annie cast.
“They’re all brilliant. They sing, dance, act, their tap dancing is wonderful, and they’re all so incredibly professional.
“A show like this is important for showing kids a live theatre experience and having a show on Sunday means we can get more families along.”
It’s something he’ll be repeating when he plays the Wicked Queen at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, after a stint as Captain Hook in pantomime. You sense that doing lots of different things is important to Craig. “A lot of people seem to think that all I do is sit on a panel holding up a paddle with a number on it, when in fact I’ve got a nine-to-five job every single day,” he says.

He adds with a big grin that one of his most recent jobs was choreographing the final scene for Paddington 2 (out in November), which stars Hugh Grant as has-been actor Phoenix Buchanan. This will obviously be an utter riot. Craig’s also choreographed a short piece for the BalletBoyz dance company’s autumn touring show Fourteen Days.
“When I was on Who Do You Think You Are? I found out that my greatgreat-grandfather was the 1871 clog-dancing champion of Australasia so I’ve put some clog dancing in the piece. I don’t think any of the dancers have performed that kind of dance on stage before, although they do teach it at the Royal Ballet, and it is famously seen in the ballet La Fille Mal Gardée.”
Having taken over most areas of stagecraft, Craig also fancies a slice of the small screen too. He loved taking part in Who Do You Think You Are? And this year he also presented part of a show about Britain’s gay buildings, revisiting the cabaret venue of the Royal Vauxhall Tavern and movingly talking to artists who performed there before the decriminalisation of homosexuality.
“It’s good to work on documentaries as I find them very stimulating,” he says.

Craig will be the Wicked Queen in panto in Southampton
“I’m the kind of person who just wants to learn more and more about the subjects and find myself getting really involved in the issues.”
At that point, I start mentally preparing myself for Craig to present Newsnight. Why not? He’s done everything else and current affairs will look so much lovelier covered with a layer of stardust.

The judge appeared on today’s episode of Lorraine and gave his side on the controversial debate that hit headlines yesterday.
Craig, 52, told the host: “I think same sex couples can exist and you only have to decide who’s going to go backwards, that’s the only difference!”
This comes after the BBC made their position clear on the debate, issuing the following statement: “Strictly has chosen the traditional format of mixed-sex couples and at the moment we have no plans to introduce same-sex couples in the competition.”
However, Craig believes this will change soon, saying he thinks it will happen as soon as next year.
“In the world of competition there are same-sex couples,” he explained. “The Beeb have to decide whether they want to do that.”
The dancer also revealed that the origins of one of the most-loved dances is actually same-sex.
“The tango was originally between two men anyway… It’s explosive,” Craig admitted
He also paid tribute to Sir Bruce Forsyth, who passed away last month, saying: “His legacy will live on and on.
“Bruce would have adored [Saturday’s tribute], because he is a stalwart and an amazing person.”
Strictly Come Dancing returns to the BBC on September 23.
The 52-year-old has been on the panel since it first began in 2004 but missed out to Shirley on replacing Len Goodman and taking over as head judge.
But ‘Mr Nasty’ has revealed he never would have wanted the role anyway as it isn’t in his “nature” and said he wouldn’t be receiving any more money for the top job.
“It would have been wrong for me because I would have had to become a smiley mediator which isn’t in my nature,” Craig told Radio Times.
He added: “Besides, you don’t get any more money.”
British star Shirley is a former World Champion, European, German, United Kingdom, United States and International Latin American Champion.
And Craig seems eager to work alongside her as he praised her talents, he said: “She’s a brilliant dance trainer, although she has been a TV judge only once or twice in America, just as a guest
“I think she will be great because she has more knowledge than any of the other judges, including me, although telly requires more than that.
But there is one change the Australian dancer does want to see on this year’s show as he admitted he would like BBC bosses to make the number of votes each couple gets every week public to avoid any “fix” claims.
“I only wish they’d make the figures from the phone vote public, to stop talk of it being fixed. But if one celeb gets 13 million votes and another gets two, it might not go down well.”
Craig and new judge Shirley will be joining returning favourites Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli on the panel when the competition returns in a couple of months time.
And as anticipation mounts for this year’s series, This Morning host Ruth Langsford and former X Factor winner Alexander Burke have been thrown into a mix of names rumoured to be competing.
