Samsung did a pretty great job with the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus smartphones last year — and as expected, the company isn’t radically changing the design language for their successors. That’s if you believe a leak published today by VentureBeat — reliable phone leaker Evan Blass has obtained images of the front of the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, and at first glance they look very similar to last year’s models.

Given that the Galaxy S8 was basically all display, it’s not surprising that the S9 looks similar. But, there are a few small differences we can find here. Perhaps most notable are the many cameras and sensors above the S9’s screen. We’d put our money on Samsung having a more advanced form of face-powered unlock and authentication than they’ve had thus far. It also wouldn’t be surprising if these sensors and camera helped the S9 take front-facing selfies with a portrait effect, like the Pixel 2 and iPhone X can.

The bezels around the screen on both the S9 and S9 Plus strangely look much larger than those found in the S8. It’s hard to tell from this single image, but Samsung made a big deal out of how the S8’s screen curves over the edge of the phone, and it doesn’t quite seem like the same thing is happening here. Again, this is just a single leaked image — we’d be surprised if Samsung changed away from the curved edge screen here, but we’ll need to wait for more pictures to say for sure what’s happening here.

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to find out what’s new here. Samsung should be showing the phone off at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which is only a month away. In the meantime, we’re guessing this is just the first of more forthcoming leaks of Samsung’s next flagship phone. Hopefully we’ll find out if Samsung fixed the Galaxy S8’s biggest flaw — that terrible fingerprint sensor placement.

Rolls Royce is set to release the , its first ever SUV, in 2018. 

Hot on the heels of the launch, the luxury car manufacturer looks to bring another new car to market next year. 

It is the first time the manufacturer is foraying into the SUV market. 

Rolls Royce, however, are unaccepting of the term SUV and prefer it to be described as a “high-sided vehicle”.

A number of spy shots have been captured of the new car as it is being tested on the roads. 

Now a rendering artist has given motorists their best look at the new Cullinan yet. 

Based on a spy shot captured of the car, artist Jan Peisert has filled in the blanks of the camouflage with elements of the new Phantom. 

While the final design may differ slightly when the final model is revealed it does give you the best look of the car so far. 

It retains the boxy and dominant design of Rolls Royces that have largely retained the same face for decades. 

When it goes on sale it will look to challenge the Bentley Bentayga at the top-end of the luxury SUV market. 

In the words of Rolls Royce, the Project Cullinan will be a “true Rolls Royce” and will be an “all-terrain high-sided vehicle”.

It will be built on its own platform which will then be used to create other Rolls Royce models from 2018. 

Cullinan will likely be powered by a version of the Phantom’s 6.8-litre V12 engine. 

It is rumoured to debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2018, although this has not been officially confirmed.

Everybody wants a decent photo ID, but French artist Rafael Fabre took the quest to a new level. Rather than just having someone snap him, he built a 3D model of his head and torso, then created a nearly photorealistic rendering of himself for a new project called CNI. He submitted that to the French authorities, who duly issued him a carte nationale identité, never realizing that the image was, as he put it, “practically virtual, a video game version, a fiction.”

To create the image, Fabre used “techniques used for special effects in movies and in the video game industry.” Specifically, he sculpted his head and torso from a bare cube using the 3D modeling program Blender, then adorned the model with clothing purchased from the Turbosquid 3D marketplace. The model was textured with photos of himself, as is typically done for photorealistic humans, then touched up to correct the lighting and proportions. Fabre said he created around 50 versions of his head before he found one that was believable.

When seen at the full render size, you can see tiny faults with the hair, jacket and details on his face. However, at the 32mm official size (about 1.2 inches) it’s easy to see why French officials bought it. Unlike with driver’s license photos in the US and Canada taken in person, France allows you to submit your own, much as you would with a passport.

Fabre’s ID photo does have a point and fits into a larger part of his art. Much of that revolves around the idea of leading viewers into a virtual, “non-existent universe … the construction of a permanent fiction,” he writes on his website. For instance, another project called Opening brings viewers into an installation featuring a fake company, complete with its own Facebook page, logo, promotional materials and website. Actors speak to the visitors, but frustratingly, never respond to them, not unlike chatbots on sites like Facebook.

It’s meant to illustrate how our increasing interaction with the digital via VR and 3D is, in effect, placing us more and more often into works of fiction. “The viewer, which is almost the only real thing in this fiction, circulates in the fake scenery, talking to the actors, going on fake websites, and interfering in this virtual world,” he said in an email to Engadget.

The photo ID fits perfectly with that idea. “I wanted to put fiction, digital and virtual into the most real object there is,” he said. “Since it is a representation, the idea of the identity itself becomes a sham … a reflection of the world of digital retouching, big data and social media in which we live.”

Our friends at JLWranglerForums.com shared the renders you see above with us, showing off their best guess at what the upcoming Jeep Wrangler JT pickup will look like. It’s not due for a while yet, but we’ve already seen a lot of the truck (under heavy camouflage) – enough to piece together some renders. Some of the small details may change, but then again, the Wrangler is one of the great constants in the automotive world. Expect a lot of carryover from JK to JL.

These renders reflect the latest gleaned from recent spyshots. Note the cut of the bed, which is angled to match the rear fender’s forward line, tucking it nicely under the rear door. The doors will also not have a body line or crease running across them, apparently. That line will occur on the front fenders and the bed, but not on the doors, it seems.

JLWranglerForums.com’s has a good track record, and while there’s no guarantee that the bits hiding under the camo and rendered here are final, this is likely a pretty good preview of what we’ll see on the road soon. In the meantime, catch up on all we know about the Wrangler pickup here.

The future of passport control could lie within a revolutionary new passport app guaranteed to speed up your customs queues.

With its success at the current 20 international airports that accept it, it is sure to expand across the globe with its success.
