A Tokyo court on Monday backed Japanese prosecutors’ request to keep the disgraced former Nissan Motor Company chairman Carlos Ghosn behind bars until January 11, due to the latest allegation of financial misconduct.

A little adversity has helped some of Canada's young players reach a new level at the world junior hockey championship, says the team's head coach.

Tim Hunter benched 17-year-old Alexis Lafreniere and 18-year-old Joe Veleno in the third period of Thursday's 3-2 victory over Switzerland, saying the pair weren't playing well.

Lafreniere responded by putting up a big goal in Canada's 5-1 win over the Czech Republic on Saturday. Veleno notched an assist on another play as Canada improved to 3-0.

"When guys are challenged and talked to directly … they understand the process and they understand the trust factor," Hunter said after Saturday's victory.

"For the first time in their careers, [Veleno and Lafreniere] faced a little adversity, they missed some shifts. They haven't had that happen to them before. So, I get that, poor guys are a little despondent at times and you have to communicate to them about the process."

Lafreniere has lit up the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he plays for the Rimouski Oceanic and has put up 17 goals and 34 assists so far in his second season.

The six-foot-one, 192-pound forward has played to his identity in the world junior tournament, but not consistently, Hunter said.

"And that's typical. He's only 17," he said. "I'm not looking for him to be perfect, but when he's not perfect, he's not going to play as much. And he understands that."

Lafreniere, the ninth-youngest player to play for Canada in the history of the event, agreed with the coach's critiques.

"I have to improve my defensive game without the puck. He's right. I have to get better and that's what I tried to do tonight," he said, adding that Saturday night's goal was a weight off his shoulders.

Captain Maxime Comtois, Brett Leason, Morgan Frost and MacKenzie Entwistle also scored for defending champion Canada on Saturday.

Ondrej Machala put up the lone goal for the Czechs (0-1-0-2), who finished fourth last year after losing 7-2 to Canada in the semis in Buffalo.

Jiri Patera — who plays for the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings — made 16 saves before he was swapped out to start the third period.

Jakub Skarek stepped in to fill the Czech net and stopped nine-of-10 shots.

Vancouver Canucks prospect Michael DiPietro stopped 23-of-24 for Canada, including a leaping glove save on a penalty kill midway through the second period.

The netminder said his team is getting better as the tournament goes on.

"We're not putting up 14 goals, but being stronger in little areas," he said, referring to Canada's 14-0 Boxing Day blowout against Denmark. "I think it's just the way we're playing, kind of the make-up of our team, we're playing to our identity and the offence is going to come."

Getting that offence takes an entire roster, not just a top line, Hunter said.

"To win games you have to get scoring through the lineup. Because your No. 1 lines and your No. 2 line aren't going to score every night," he said. "It's like a playoff series — if you expect your top line to score every night in a playoff series, good luck."

Entwistle, who started the tournament as the 13th forward, is the only Canadian to have goals in each of the first three games.

While he's had a carousel of linemates across those matchups, the Chicago Blackhawks prospect said they're all great players, which makes the changes easier.

"We all have some size, we all have some skill and playing down low behind their net is what we need to do. We've been doing that and developing some chemistry," he said. "Obviously, it's tough to get in a groove but later on in the game it's a little bit easier."

The Canadians will finish up round-robin play Monday when they battle Russia.

While the rollout of Windows 10 version 1809 (the October 2018 Update) has been problematic, Microsoft really does try to avoid sending the update to configurations that it knows just won’t work properly.

One of these situations involved PCs with Apple’s iCloud client. The system would break when trying to sync or update Shared Albums when used on Windows 1809, and, accordingly, Microsoft blocked installation of the update on systems with iCloud installed. Similarly, the iCloud client could be installed on Windows 1809 because Apple had a broken version check that didn’t recognize that version 1809 was indeed the current Windows version.

Both issues appear to be fixed now. Apple has released iCloud for Windows version 7.8.1, which resolves both the crash and the bad version check. After upgrading to this version, the Windows 10 Update will no longer be blocked and will install in the normal way.

The pound suffered its sharpest drop since the 2017 general election last week and has failed to recover since.

The pound is currently trading at €1.125 against the euro, according to Bloomberg.

Brexit continues to dominate headlines and affect sterling’s growth this week.

Laura Parsons, currency analyst at TorFX, spoke to Express.co.uk regarding the latest exchange rate figures.

“Last week’s dramatic response to PM Theresa May’s Brexit deal left the pound plummeting across the board,” Parsons said.

“The GBP/EUR exchange rate shed over 2 cents to trade in the region of €1.125 and remains close to those levels as concerns that May could soon face a vote of no confidence remain.

“With Brexit still in the spotlight pound exchange rates could remain volatile in the days ahead.”

Last week, May had to save her draft EU divorce proposal following a series of resignations from ministers who refused to support her.

Dominic Raab resigned as Brexit Secretary over concerns for the “indefinite” backstop agreement to avoid a hard Irish border and Northern Ireland remaining under EU regulations.

Esther McVey stood down as Work and Pensions Secretary as she could not defend a deal which meant the UK “handing over control to the EU”.

Other minsters to resign throughout the day included Suella Braverman and Shailesh Vara. Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Ranil Jayawardena and Rehman Chishti also left their posts as key figures in Government.

Despite the turbulence, May defended her proposal and told a press conference she believes “with every fibre of my being” the path she “set out is the right one for our country”.

The concern for holidaymakers heading abroad is the uncertainty around whether the worst is yet to come for the currency and if they should be buying their euros now.

Exchange rates are notoriously unpredictable so unfortunately there is no concrete formula for when to buy and sell.

Ian Strafford-Taylor, CEO of FairFX, recommended customers keep an eye on when the pound becomes strong again, to get the most for their money.

He said the next main movement from the pound could come off the threat of a ministers vote for May.

The Prime Minister has insisted she would combat any attempt to force her out after leading Brexiter Jacob Rees-Mogg called for the vote against her.

It is understood up to a dozen other Tory backbenchers have also sent letters calling for May to quit over Brexit.

However, there must be 48 letters of no confidence to the 1922 Committee to initiate such a vote.

Apple announced on its earnings call today that it had surpassed its revenue estimates for Q4 2018. The iPhone maker boasted $ 62.9 billion in revenue, slightly more than the $ 60-62 billion it previously estimated, as well as $ 14.1 billion in profit, up from $ 11.5 billion in the previous quarter.

“We’re thrilled to report another record-breaking quarter that caps a tremendous fiscal 2018, the year in which we shipped our two billionth iOS device, celebrated the 10th anniversary of the App Store, and achieved the strongest revenue and earnings in Apple’s history,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement.

Apple sold 46.8 million iPhones, 9.6 million iPads, and 5.2 million Macs in the final quarter of 2018. While that represents a 14 percent increase in iPhone sales when compared to last quarter, it’s about the same number of iPhones sold this time last year. However, year-over-year revenue from iPhone sales was up by 29 percent, thanks to the increase in iPhone prices.

UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will not be leaving the Ultimate Fighting Championship, with president Dana White pledging that any issues concerning the post-fight brawl at UFC 229 will eventually be worked out.

“We’re good with Khabib,” the UFC president told TMZ Sports on Tuesday. “He’s staying! This will all work out.”

Following an ugly scene at the conclusion of the Khabib vs. McGregor UFC 229 fight on October 6, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the Russian fighter had threatened to leave the UFC, if White were to punish his 27-year-old teammate Zubaira Tukhugov for raiding the octagon. “If you decide to fire him, you should know that you’ll lose me too,” Khabib posted on Instagram last week.

The fighting sensation from Russia’s Dagestan immediately received a $ 2 million offer from American rapper 50 Cent to move to the second biggest MMA promotion, Bellator. The champion was also offered a boxing fight with Floyd Mayweather. White, apparently, also did not stay silent, and has been negotiating with the 30-year-old Nurmagomedov, after initially announcing that Tukhugov would no longer be fighting for the UFC.

“We worked it out. We’re gonna get everything worked out. Obviously, he was a little upset and a little fired up,” White said. “At the end of the day, Khabib is a great guy and we’ve always had a great relationship with him.”

Hurricane Florence‘s center is expected to make landfall somewhere near the border between North and South Carolina on Saturday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), though the storm’s intensity will be felt starting Thursday.
