SAS Who Dares Wins 2019: Recruit reveals secret communication with the outside world https://briefnews.eu/sas-who-dares-wins-2019-recruit-reveals-secret-communication-with-the-outside-world/ https://briefnews.eu/sas-who-dares-wins-2019-recruit-reveals-secret-communication-with-the-outside-world/#respond Sat, 09 Feb 2019 09:22:07 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/sas-who-dares-wins-2019-recruit-reveals-secret-communication-with-the-outside-world/

SAS Who Dares Wins will conclude tomorrow night on Channel 4 as the remaining eight contestants will reach the interrogation round.

Ahead of the episode airing, contestant Vicki spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about her time on the show and revealed how contestants can communicate with their family or friends.

When asked whether or not they were allowed to contact someone during their two week stay in Chile, she clarified her series didn’t.

“No, No! Nothing, absolutely nothing!” She began, before suggesting other series were allowed.

“Speaking to someone could be beneficial, or it could go the other way and derail you,” she continued.

“I know in previous series there has been an option, ‘did you want to have a call home, or see someone on video link?’.

“I think I decided before I went I didn’t want to have to do that. But it was tough,” Vicki revealed.

Nevertheless, she did find a positive from being cut off and said: “But actually, [it was] so refreshing at the same time.

“To switch off everything and all social media and you were so focused and staying alive and completed the next hour the next task the next day, anything beyond that is just a distraction.

“You couldn’t think about it [family and friends] too much whilst you were there, it would get so overwhelming.”

Express.co.uk contacted Channel 4 in regards to whether recruits were allowed or offered communication with family or friends during the course.

A spokesperson for the broadcaster explained that during filming recruits have never been allowed to contact anyone.

During the interview, the recruit also spoke about training alongside the men for the first time in the show’s history.

“I train with men all the time, so that doesn’t faze me,’ she argued. “I really wanted to participate for lots of reason in that context to show women can do what men can do and it doesn’t have to be about a gender debate.

“There were some things the guys were better at and some things the girls were better at.

“Generally, it was on an individual basis, and obviously you’ve seen that though the series so far. At this point, going into episode five and six there are more women left than men.

“Which is interesting, we [the women] were quite well organised, we had our admin in check and physically we were able to do everything that the guys did, we did do everything, there were no allowances made.

“But I don’t think thats about gender, it’s an individual thing it’s about your mindset,” she concluded.

It comes after Vicki revealed a scene which wasn’t filmed or even shown on the series.

In tomorrow night’s finale, viewers will tune in to see the interrogation, the hardest round of the course.

But before that took place, Vicki explained how herself and the other remaining contestants were taken for some down time.

“Ollie [Ollerton] and Foxy [Jason Fox] took us out to an area by a lake, the views were just astonishing. And they took us down there, and we were kind of joking that they were going to take us out for ice-creams.

“They took us down for a beasting, but actually what it was, was a light physical session, where we were able to have a bit of banter with them and it was really quite relaxed,” she continued before confirming: “That was almost off the record, that session.”

SAS Who Dares Wins: Former recruit reveals shock Ant Middleton secret https://briefnews.eu/sas-who-dares-wins-former-recruit-reveals-shock-ant-middleton-secret/ https://briefnews.eu/sas-who-dares-wins-former-recruit-reveals-shock-ant-middleton-secret/#respond Sat, 02 Feb 2019 11:56:00 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/sas-who-dares-wins-former-recruit-reveals-shock-ant-middleton-secret/

SAS: Who Dares Wins is back on television screens tomorrow night as the remaining recruits battle through the course.

Each week, one or two contestants leave the process, and Nathaniel, recruit number 16 has spoken out about the creation of the show following his exit.

Discussing whether or not the contestants get briefed before going on the show, Nathaniel explained how they don’t get talk anything about what’s going to happen to them.

“No you don’t get briefed,” he revealed before adding: “They didn’t tell you where you were going.

“Even when we were selected we didn’t know where we were going until we got to the airport.”

As for the production of the show, Nathaniel revealed how authentic the making of it is: “No take two or none of the stuff.

“It’s 100 per cent real, even the bus – when we got ambushed. I was shaking, it was real. It doesn’t matter if you seem them on TV, you actually feel like it is real, you feel like you are getting ambushed. The staff take it seriously.”

Discussing the staff and how they work on camera, the recruit said: “They don’t care about the cameras.

“Ant definitely didn’t care about the cameras, they kept telling them to get out of the way.”

Discussing what it was like to be around Ant, Nathaniel explained: “Even when I got there, I didn’t look at Ant and be like ‘it’s Ant Middleton’ these are Special Forces, you’re going to get beasted!”

Express.co.uk has contacted Ant Middleton’s representative and Channel 4 for a comment.

It comes after Nathaniel left the course based on medical grounds. You can read his full story here.

Meanwhile, the recruit discussed the hardest thing he had to do whilst on the show and explained why he didn’t want to do it.

In a previous episode, viewers of SAS will remember how the staff pitted contestants against one another in a fighting challenge.

Nathaniel revealed how “fighting Louise was the hardest thing” he had to do.

Elsewhere on the show, viewers tuned in to an emotionally tough episode last weekend.

As the recruits took part in more gruelling tasks and challenges, one scene left those watching at home in tears.

It came as one contestant opened up about the devastating death of his wife.

After being pulled into interrogation by the Staff, Mark was probed about the secret he was “masking”.

“We’re hoping you can elaborate. You do realise the more you talk to us the more we can help you out,” Ant explained.

And following a few minutes of chatting, Mark revealed the real heartbreak he recently suffered.

The New Way Companies Recruit on Campus https://briefnews.eu/the-new-way-companies-recruit-on-campus/ https://briefnews.eu/the-new-way-companies-recruit-on-campus/#respond Thu, 26 Jul 2018 07:19:35 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-new-way-companies-recruit-on-campus/

On move-in day at Michigan State University’s College of Engineering, freshmen and their parents discover something surprising. Mingling among the families and faculty are teams of volunteers from major companies like General Electric and Consumers Energy, helping students move in. Even more surprising, there’s a good chance the person schlepping futons up four flights of stairs is a vice president or chief engineer. That’s how hard employers are working to develop relationships with students from day one.

“Large companies used to feel they could go to the career fair and hire 30 seniors and get top talent,” says Jason Weingarten, co-founder and CEO of Yello, a Chicago-based startup that builds talent-acquisition software. “Now students have been picked away through internships, externships, faculty referrals — when you get to senior year, the cream of the crop is gone.”

The whole idea is to create a career education experience that feels baked into student life, not ringed off and intimidating.

That doesn’t mean employers are turning up on the first day of freshman year and asking for résumés. “Showing up simply as a recruiter is not going to work in today’s environment,” says Farouk Dey, dean of experiential education at Stanford University, where he oversees BEAM (Bridging Education, Ambition & Meaningful Work) career education. “Engaging in campus activities, serving as a partner and educator — those are some of the smartest things an employer can do.” Especially since, as Dey points out, students have a lot of options. They might go to graduate school, join the gig economy, even drive for Lyft for six months before traveling. Companies have to work hard to get them.

So what does this look like? Well, take General Electric. The 125-year-old corporate giant is now using virtual reality to showcase its products and technology on campus and hosting hackathons as a way to connect with students. GE reps also mentor undergraduates and run résumé workshops — all very different from a guy in a tie shaking your hand from a kiosk at the senior year career fair.

Companies that can’t send armies of recruiters are finding ways to compete too. Yello’s mobile app allows employers to track students who show interest at an event, giving organizations information on which campuses they do well on. Then, through a digital platform, they invite students to next steps: interviews, applications or — the golden ticket — an internship offer. Social media amplifies their reach as well.

Meanwhile, universities are also rethinking their approach to career services. Garth Motschenbacher, director of employer relations at MSU College of Engineering, has his team sit in a bullpen and hires students — “career peers” — to work the front desk, so that all initial engagement with employers and students goes through them. A career consultant is embedded in the college, serving as a direct link between engineering students and the MSU Career Services Network. Formality is ditched as well; instead, employers are invited for informal meet-ups. “I realized if I put ‘business casual’ on an event, students froze,” says Motschenbacher. “The more casual you make things, the more students start letting their hair down and talking about what they really want.”

The whole idea is to create a career education experience that feels baked into student life, not ringed off and intimidating. And it starts early. At MSU’s Freshman Extravaganza, a résumé-free event for engineering students and employers, many first-years have never interacted with a company before. “I came for the free food,” says Arielle Tolbert, now a junior majoring in computer engineering who’s already locked in a summer internship. “But it was great exposure. I realized what skills I was lacking and that I needed to work on my elevator speech. I also got to know employers.”

Of course, a lot of the college experience is lost if students spend four years thinking about how to land a job. Part of the problem is massive student debt. Undergrads worried about paying back six figures “aren’t thinking about what sorority to join or making friends,” says Weingarten. “They’re thinking, how am I going to pay this back?” And internships, especially at top tech firms, are pretty lucrative. (Many pay upward of $ 6,000 per month.) Which brings up another issue: Early recruiting tends to favor STEM students and chokes off other paths of study, like liberal arts.

Many educators understand this risk. At MSU, engineering students are required to take humanities classes. Colleges and universities such as George Mason, Miami University of Ohio, Stanford and William & Mary are pivoting from transactional, brick-and-mortar career centers to an embedded, community approach. And while Dey acknowledges that some would say any kind of freshman/sophomore career education pushes students too early toward vocational thinking, “We’re not here to talk to freshmen about what job they should have when they graduate,” he says. “We want to know what they value in life and what kind of impact they want to have on their community.”

As part of the shift from job placement to career education, Stanford students interested in similar things — a specific major, say, or the nonprofit sector or working in a creative field — come together in community settings and interact with alums and employers. And while Stanford’s largest student/employer meet-up hosts about 300 employers and thousands of students, it isn’t called a career fair. “We have photo booths, party tricks — lots of activities that force you to get to know each other,” Dey says.

The idea is to create connections that increase a student’s chances of stumbling in front of that lucky moment at the right time. Because behind every dream job, there’s usually a mix of perfect timing and happenstance. Maybe in 10 years we’ll have an app for that too.

Spy scandal in Ukraine: Special forces tried to recruit RIA Novosti reporter, asking to leak data https://briefnews.eu/spy-scandal-in-ukraine-special-forces-tried-to-recruit-ria-novosti-reporter-asking-to-leak-data/ https://briefnews.eu/spy-scandal-in-ukraine-special-forces-tried-to-recruit-ria-novosti-reporter-asking-to-leak-data/#respond Sun, 03 Jun 2018 16:19:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/spy-scandal-in-ukraine-special-forces-tried-to-recruit-ria-novosti-reporter-asking-to-leak-data/ Ukrainian security forces asked a Russian journalist to spy for them and leak data on her colleagues. The Russian Foreign Ministry has condemned the incident, stating that freedom of expression in Ukraine is dead.

A reporter working for RIA Novosti news agency in Lithuania, Irina Vysokovich, travelled to the Ukrainian town of Kherson to cover the trial of her colleague, Kirill Vyshinsky, deputy editor-in-chief of RIA Novosti Ukraine. He had been arrested in Kiev and accused of treason. However, Vysokovich didn’t make it to court on Friday as events took a turn worthy of a spy blockbuster. Before she managed to enter the courtroom, she was put into a car and driven to the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) office.

The reporter was interrogated for several hours about her work by special service agents. They then made the reporter sign papers stating that she was ready to leak data on her colleagues.

The Russian Foreign Ministry slammed the incident, accusing “the Ukrainian regime” of pressuring, threatening, and organizing provocations against journalists. “This incident is further proof that freedom of expression in Ukraine has ceased to exist,” the ministry said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the SBU claimed that Vysokovich had fabricated the story, saying that they merely conducted “an interview” with her, the Ukrainian news agency reported. The security service also accused the woman, who was in the country on a journalistic assignment, of coming to Ukraine for the purpose of “propaganda.”

What the SBU called an “interview” frightened Vysokovich. Recalling the incident, the reporter said that none of the SBU officers had provided their full names. She said they pressured her and told her that their bosses “want blood,” according to RIA Novosti.

In order to be released, the reporter had to state on camera that she had no complaints about the SBU, despite the fact that her detention was not even documented properly. “I was told that I would be nicknamed Mila, I would be released, and then reached out to. Otherwise, I would stay here for a long time,” Vysokovich said.

The attempt to recruit Vysokovich is yet another scandal involving Russian-linked media figures in Ukraine. Earlier this week, the murder of Russian journalist, Arkady Babchenko, which turned out to be staged by the SBU, made headlines and put Kiev under fire from international journalist organizations.

Meanwhile, Vyshinsky’s apartment in Kiev has been robbed, the journalist’s lawyer told RIA Novosti on Sunday, adding that the police had arrived on site to document the damage.

Avengers Infinity War: Doctor Strange to recruit Captain Marvel from alternate timeline? https://briefnews.eu/avengers-infinity-war-doctor-strange-to-recruit-captain-marvel-from-alternate-timeline/ https://briefnews.eu/avengers-infinity-war-doctor-strange-to-recruit-captain-marvel-from-alternate-timeline/#respond Fri, 30 Mar 2018 08:58:32 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/avengers-infinity-war-doctor-strange-to-recruit-captain-marvel-from-alternate-timeline/

She’s not in Avengers Infinity War, but will be introduced in her own solo movie next year before appearing in Avengers 4.

And interestingly Captain , like the first Captain America movie, is a period piece – one which is set in the 1990s.

While Agent Coulson and Nick Fury are set to star opposite Brie Larson, fans have been wondering why there’s been no mention of her in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if the film is a prequel to the original Iron Man.

With the Time Stone and Reality Stone in play for the next two Avengers movies, could she in fact be from another timeline in the multi-verse?

have suggested the interesting theory, pointing out that Avengers 4 seems to be dealing with time travel or perhaps different timelines, based on set photos.

One in particular showed Iron Man and Captain America back in the Battle of New York from 2012, but for some reason Ant-Man is there.

One of the most obvious ways Captain Marvel could be brought to the main MCU timeline, is via Doctor Strange.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s sorcerer was introduced to the multi-verse in his 2016 solo movie, so he certainly has access to visiting different realities.

Perhaps Thanos gets the upperhand at the end of Avengers Infinity War, so Doctor Strange travels to another timeline to find other powerful superheroes to join the fight.

After all, Captain Marvel is something of a female Superman, with super strength, speed, stamina and flight among her powers.

While promoting Ready Player One, he said: “Brie is absolutely perfect for that role.”

He added: “Why? Because she’s a strong, yet sensitive, contemporary female.

“She is a champion, she’s a fantastic actress and she’s a great human. So you can’t ask for better for Captain Marvel.”

Captain Marvel is released in UK cinemas on March 8, 2019.

FBI wiretaps reportedly recorded University of Arizona head coach discussing $100,000 payment to land a top high school recruit https://briefnews.eu/fbi-wiretaps-reportedly-recorded-university-of-arizona-head-coach-discussing-100000-payment-to-land-a-top-high-school-recruit/ https://briefnews.eu/fbi-wiretaps-reportedly-recorded-university-of-arizona-head-coach-discussing-100000-payment-to-land-a-top-high-school-recruit/#respond Sat, 24 Feb 2018 06:22:59 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/fbi-wiretaps-reportedly-recorded-university-of-arizona-head-coach-discussing-100000-payment-to-land-a-top-high-school-recruit/ Sean Miller

  • According to an ESPN report, FBI wiretaps recorded University of Arizona head basketball coach Sean Miller discussing a payment of $ 100,000 in order to ensure the signing of a top recruit.
  • The news is just the latest to break from the ongoing FBI probe into bribery and corruption within college basketball.
  • When an Arizona assistant coach was arrested in September, Miller maintained that he knew nothing of potential bribes regarding recruits to the university.

Arizona Wildcats head coach Sean Miller may be the next domino to fall in the FBI’s investigation into bribery and corruption within college basketball.

According to a report from ESPN, the FBI intercepted calls in which Miller spoke with Christian Dawkins, a “runner” for sports agent Andy Miller and a central figure of the FBI’s probe. ESPN reports that Miller discussed paying $ 100,000 in order to make sure that now-freshman Deandre Ayton signed with Arizona.

‘Shoot black kids’ smoking weed, police chief advises recruit https://briefnews.eu/shoot-black-kids-smoking-weed-police-chief-advises-recruit/ https://briefnews.eu/shoot-black-kids-smoking-weed-police-chief-advises-recruit/#respond Fri, 19 Jan 2018 22:47:02 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/shoot-black-kids-smoking-weed-police-chief-advises-recruit/

A former assistant police chief in Kentucky advised a recruit to “shoot” black youths smoking marijuana and to have sex with their mothers if he finds them attractive.

While being interviewed by the police recruit who was writing a paper about “the right thing to do,” Todd Shaw, assistant chief in Prospect, was asked what to do if he encountered juveniles smoking marijuana.

“If black, shoot them,” Shaw responded, according to a letter written by Mike O’Connell, the Chief Legal Officer for Jefferson County to the Mayor of Prospect, John Evans.

Shaw continued with outlandish answers when asked what to tell the kids’ parents, WDRB reports.

“Call their (pa)rents …  If mom is hot then f**k her…  If dad is hot then handcuff him and make him suck my d**k… Unless daddy is black. Then shoot him,” he wrote, according to the outlet.

“There is no place in police departments for men or women who hold such strongly held prejudices, including recommending shooting people simply because of their race,” O’Connell wrote to the mayor.

The prosecutor said his office would not move forward with any pending cases in which Shaw was involved. More than 20 cases were dismissed as a result. The name of the police recruit has not been released.

Shaw had made the comments in Facebook messages, which were found by prosecutors investigating a possible criminal prosecution against him for allegedly interfering in a sex abuse probe.

The probe focused on two Louisville police officers who were charged with sexually abusing teenagers. Shaw was being investigated for providing illegal assistance to one of the officers.

He sued the the cities of Prospect and Louisville in an effort to keep the messages private, but a judge ruled Thursday that his level of responsibility as an assistant police chief “lends itself to a higher level of public scrutiny.”
