The latest Marvel hero is the focus of major trolling focussed on its supposed feminist agenda. Yet, the film has also received distinctly underwhelming reviews from many critics, male and female. Rotten Tomatoes already removed its long-standing pre-release “Want to see” rating after a concerted negative campaign. Earlier today the site erased over 50,000 negative ratings which had put the audience total at 32%. Yet, just hours later, with ratings being closely monitored the film only has a 36% score. The official critics rating has also slipped slightly down to 80% while the traditionally reliable IMDB aggregate is also surprisingly low.

It should be stressed that there is a world of difference between genuine low reviews and blanket campaigns which have seen a surge in posting a ridiculously low one out of ten score from many people who have not had time to see the movie yet.

The movie received more ratings in half a day than other blockbusters have in one month.

This is distasteful and also undermines any legitimate concerns voiced about the movie.

Both Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB written public reviews contain a disturbing number which focus more on the perceived agenda rather than the merits of the film itself. This can be seen in the repeated use of buzz phrases like “SJW,” “feminist agenda,” and “politically correct.”

CAPTAIN MARVEL REVIEW: THE MOST DISAPPOINTING THING IS HOW UNDERWHELMING IT IS

Things are slightly more measured over at IMDB where the film sits at 61%. 

This actually lines up relatively well with Rotten Tomatoes where the system only rates a critic’s review as fresh or rotten, so anything three stars and over contributes to the fresh rating and pushes it higher.

However, the current audience rating of 36% on Captain America is clearly still terribly skewed. Whatever reservations some viewers and critics may have, it is certainly deserving of a much higher score.

Asked about trolling and toxic campaigns, Brie Larson herself gave a typically classy answer: “Oh… who cares? Love what you love! Who cares what other people think?”

It remains to be seen what will happen as the film open worldwide across the weekend.

Will audiences pay any attention to the furore? Will audiences love the movie as much as the filmmakers hope or will they, too, have some reservations?

Everybody Knows it out in UK cinemas on March 8, 2019. But the movie opened the Cannes Film Festival last year, followed by its release in Spain on September 14, 2018. A.V. Club’s A. A. Dowd said: “Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz help break Cannes’ opening-night curse.”

What is Everybody Knows age rating?

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) gives Everybody Knows a 15 age rating.

This means no one younger than 15 may see a 15 film in a cinema.

The BBFC cits strong language as its reason behind the rating.

There are also milder terms, but bear in mind they are in Spanish with English subtitles.

There is also moderate threat associated with a kidnapping.

In America, the thriller, whose original Spanish title is Todos lo Saben, the movie is rated R.

R ratings mean anyone under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian.

The plot synopsis of Everybody Knows reads: “Laura and her two children travel from Argentina to Spain to attend her sister’s wedding.

“The joyful reunion soon turns tragic when her older daughter gets kidnapped — revealing a dark web of hidden secrets.”

Written and directed by Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, Everybody Knows is a French-Spanish-Italian co-production.

The movie will play in the UK with English subtitles for those who do not speak Spanish.

The cast stars Penélope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) as Laura, Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) as Paco, and Ricardo Darín (The Secret in Their Eyes) as Alejandro, Laura’s husband.

The film was written and directed by Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi.

Everybody Knows has a 75 per cent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Its critics’ consensus reads “Everybody Knows is somewhat less than the sum of its parts despite the efforts of an outstanding cast – and a disappointing step back for writer-director Asghar Farhadi.”

Reviews, however, are overall more positive in tone than the consensus reads.

Everybody Knows is a French-Spanish-Italian co-production, which began in August 2017.

Everybody Knows received eight nominated at the 33rd Goya Awards.

Jason Mamoa will bring Aquaman to life when it reaches cinemas next month, portraying the half human, half Atlantean hero. Fans have been anticipating the film’s release, following a series of date setbacks. The film was originally due to be released in July, before being pushed back to October and now December.

Jason Momoa, known for his portrayal of Khal Drogo in HBO’s hit tv show Game of Thrones, is seen in the trailer as the perfect embodiment of Aquaman. 

Aquaman or Arthur Curry as he is also known must fight to stop the seven kingdoms from lashing out against the surface world. 

Aquaman’s half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) seeks to bring the seven seas together in the quest for world domination. 

The cast of the DC Comic classic is star-studded, featuring Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe.

How old do you have to be to watch Aquaman?

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) have certified Aquaman as a 12A. 

This means children under the age of 12 are not permitted to see the film unless accompanied by an adult. 

It is up to the accompanying adult to determine whether the film is suitable for that child. 

The BBFC say Aquaman contains moderate violence and scenes of sustained threat which have resulted in the classification.

When it is released on DVD, a child younger than 12 will be unable to purchase the film. 

Despite not being released until December, a number of critics saw the film at its world premiere in London this week. 

Official reviews have yet to be released, but these film buffs have taken to Twitter to praise Aquaman, for its actors, director and the special effects. 

Managing Director for CinemaBlend and co-host of ReelBlend Sean O’Connell said: “Chalk up a big, wet win for DC. Aquaman is an epic swing-for-the-fences adventure that plunges fans into incredibly creative worlds.

Events editor for CinemaBlend Eric Eisenberg also raved about the underwater action film saying: “Excited now I can say how much I enjoyed Aquaman! 

“It’s a cool adventure built on some tremendous action sequences and set piece with a great hero arc/performance from Jason Momoa as the glue. 

“There’s fun world building and it looks wonderful. A great step for the DCEU.”

Whilst author Brandon Davis praised director James Wan, “Aquaman is great.

“James Wan made a really unique superhero origin film, often crossing into fantasy-epic territory but grounded in family and discovery.

“The world is visually incredible. Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry is a total bad-ass.”

The company has revealed that it is tracking the behavior of its users and using that information to assign them individual trust ratings, the Washington Post reported, admitting also that the details surrounding how the new credibility system works are “highly opaque”.

The social media giant said earlier this year that it was rolling out the trust-rating system for media outlets on the platform, which aimed to rank news websites based on the quality and trustworthiness of their output — and in turn to rank the posts of better-rated or more ‘trustworthy’ news sites higher on users’ feeds.

As part of the new rating process, Facebook watches how individual users interact with articles posted on the platform, according to Tessa Lyons, who is heading up the platform’s fight against fake news. If someone gives feedback that an article is false and it is proven to be false later by a third-party fact-checker, that person will be taken more seriously in comparison to someone who “indiscriminately” provides incorrect fake news feedback, she said.

But there are obvious pitfalls to this kind of system, with Lyons admitting that it is “not uncommon for people to tell us something is false simply because they disagree with the premise of a story or they’re intentionally trying to target a particular publisher.”

It is not clear what individual user ratings are used for by Facebook beyond that example. It is also not known how exactly the ratings are assigned and whether every Facebook user has one.

Lyons said the ratings are not meant to be “an absolute indicator” of credibility, but that it is merely “one measurement among thousands of new behavioral clues” used by Facebook to understand individual behavior, which is hardly any more comforting.

The Facebook rating system was quickly compared online to the invasive “social credit” system being developed by the Chinese government which will become mandatory from 2020 and will use social media to analyse the online habits of its citizens, giving each a score. Under that system, individual citizens’ scores will even be used to determine whether they can take out a loan or use public transport.

Asked to divulge any of the other indicators Facebook uses to rate users’ credibility beyond how they interact with articles, Lyons declined, saying that it could lead to the system being gamed.

But concerns abound over Facebook’s ability to properly determine what constitutes ‘fake news’ and credibility on its platform and what does not. The platform has been criticized, for example, over its teaming up with the Atlantic Council think tank, which is funded by a number of NATO governments and arms manufacturers, as part of its efforts to fight inauthentic content.

The social media giant was forced to restore one of the pages belonging to Latin American news channel Telesur last week, after uproar followed an unexplained deletion of the page.

Facebook’s favourability rating in the US has plunged in a new poll commissioned by Axios.

The SurveyMonkey poll found that Facebook’s favourability rating dropped twice as much as other technology companies.

The polling company asked 2,878 adults in the US about their views on technology companies in October, and then again last week.

BRAZIL and Russia, the third- and fourth-biggest emerging economies, have much in common beyond their size. Each boasts annual GDP per person of around $ 10,000, which depends more than either would like on natural riches. After commodity prices tumbled in 2014, their economies shrank and their currencies sank. Their central banks have fought hard against the ensuing inflation, driving it below 3%. Russia’s rating, by contrast, was raised a few days later by S&P Global, which became the second agency to rate Russian sovereign debt as “investment grade”.
