These include the dateless 20ps, which are actually part of a run from 2008. There may be between 50,000 and 200,000 of these coins in circulation.

The 1983 ‘New Pence’ 2p coin can also sell for a huge sum, up to £650.

New 10p coins in circulation are part of a 26 coin collection, each of which represents a letter of the alphabet.

Uncirculated versions of the coin are already selling online for £8.95. Many have been sold in the past day alone, and the whole collection is available for £120.

Change Checker expect the coins to be very valuable, but their exact circulation figures are not known.

A rare £1 coin has sold on eBay for £120.

Seller Dan Rahman, known as “d_b90210” on the site, said: “This listing is for an Isle of Man £1 coin dated 1996 featuring Douglas.

The coin is uncirculated but does have some surface markings as pictured so please check them. This coin is also the hardest to find from the set.”

eBay: Rarest 50p coin selling for a huge sum – what is the value of the Kew Gardens 50p? https://briefnews.eu/ebay-rarest-50p-coin-selling-for-a-huge-sum-what-is-the-value-of-the-kew-gardens-50p/ https://briefnews.eu/ebay-rarest-50p-coin-selling-for-a-huge-sum-what-is-the-value-of-the-kew-gardens-50p/#respond Tue, 27 Feb 2018 23:26:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ebay-rarest-50p-coin-selling-for-a-huge-sum-what-is-the-value-of-the-kew-gardens-50p/

Rare coins like the Kew Gardens 50p coin sell for huge sums of money on sites such as eBay.

The Kew Gardens 50p coin is the rarest currently in circulation in the UK.

There are only 210,000 in Britain, so collectors are always very keen to get their hands on them.

This coin has a scarcity rating of 100 on Change Checker, the highest rating possible.

However, this version of the coin is much rarer as it is the special Piedfort silver proof version.

This coin has been sold by seller London123-123 on the auction.

They said of the piece: “Rare boxed which hard to find and it’s only made in total 3500.” [sic]

After a whopping 33 bids where made on the coin, it was eventually sold for £440.

Royal Mint said of the design: “In 2009 the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew marked its 250th anniversary as a botanical garden and The Royal Mint was proud to join in the celebrations with a splendid commemorative design.

“The reverse design, created by Christopher Le Brun RA, featured the famous Chinese Pagoda at Kew with a decorative leafy climber twining in and around the tower.”

The Kew Gardens 50p coin has sold for huge amounts of money online before.

Although this is the rarest coin in the UK, some attempt to sell other 50p coins for huge amounts of money online.

One seller has listed a Battle of Hastings 50p coin on eBay for a whopping £2 million.

A more realistic sold an Olympic Triathlon 50p coin for £600 recently.

The coin, which sold on 9 November 2017, was purchased for the sum with one bid made.

Seller nicoljenkin46 from Bedworth made a tasty profit with this coin, but how rare is it, and could you have one?

The rarest new PUBG items show up once every 80 years, on average https://briefnews.eu/the-rarest-new-pubg-items-show-up-once-every-80-years-on-average/ https://briefnews.eu/the-rarest-new-pubg-items-show-up-once-every-80-years-on-average/#respond Wed, 10 Jan 2018 08:51:25 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-rarest-new-pubg-items-show-up-once-every-80-years-on-average/

Enlarge / It takes good money (or good luck) to look this good.

It’s not a huge surprise that the latest test server update for the insanely popular PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on PC expands the game’s free and paid loot crate system. Despite recent controversy over the practice, loot crates remain one of the most efficient ways to monetize a huge player base and encourage players to keep coming back for a regular drip of Skinner box rewards.

What is surprising is just how uncommon some of these new cosmetic items are. In fact, the rarest free items in PUBG‘s new crates will only show up for the average serious player once every 80 years, while the rarest paid items will require an average of nearly $ 1,600 (and five years of dedicated play time) to unlock.

The numbers

We know this because PUBG is being refreshingly upfront about the chances of acquiring specific items in the game’s new Desperado and Biker loot crates, which are now available on the game’s test server. The fact that platforms like Apple’s App Store and countries like China are now requiring such drop rates to be published could have something to do with that transparency, or it could be a coincidence.

PORTLAND, Oregon—If you think you’ve seen everything there is to offer at a massive “retro gaming expo,” then you’re a lot like me. I went to last weekend’s Portland Retro Gaming Expo with low expectations, simply hoping to have fun and play games with a few friends. But the annual show has continued its explosive growth, and this year’s edition featured so much rare and weird gaming stuff from yesteryear that I couldn’t help but pull out my camera.

In part, I’m a sucker for rare games, in original, mint-condition boxes, being collected and sold in a giant pavilion, which PRGE offered in its biggest show floor yet. And I always enjoy a massive free-play floor that lets me save quarters on classic pinball and video arcade machines, which PRGE also delivered with its biggest selection since the show began in 2006.

World’s rarest songbird is so rare because it's not real – study https://briefnews.eu/worlds-rarest-songbird-is-so-rare-because-its-not-real-study/ https://briefnews.eu/worlds-rarest-songbird-is-so-rare-because-its-not-real-study/#respond Sat, 07 Oct 2017 05:07:10 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/worlds-rarest-songbird-is-so-rare-because-its-not-real-study/

A new study into one of the world’s most “elusive” species of songbird found that the Liberian Greenbul may be so hard to spot because… it never actually existed.

A team of researchers from the University of Aberdeen conducted the study into the species to find out more, or any, information about the bird that has “eluded experts for decades”.

In fact, the Liberian Greenbul has only ever been spotted on nine occasions in Cavalla Forest, south-eastern Liberia, between 1981 and 1984, and was considered different to the commonly found Icterine Greenbul, because of its white spots.

Now, DNA analysis of the only specimen ever collected (in 1984) has concluded that the distinctive white spots were probably caused by a nutritional deficiency while its feathers were still growing.

Furthermore, when the specimen’s DNA was compared to that of the Icterine Greenbul, scientists found no significant genetic difference between the two.

“The Liberian Greenbul has gained almost ‘mythical’ status since it was sighted in the ‘80s”, said Professor Martin Collinson, a geneticist from the University of Aberdeen’s Institute of Medical Sciences.

“We can’t say definitively that the Liberian Greenbul is the same bird as the Iceterine Greenbul but we have presented enough evidence that makes any other explanation seem highly unlikely,” added Collinson.

The Liberian Greenbul had been officially listed as “critically endangered” up until 2016. The shocking results of the study have been published in the Journal of Ornithology.

Rarest £2 coin worth SIXTEEN times original value in circulation – do YOU have one? https://briefnews.eu/rarest-2-coin-worth-sixteen-times-original-value-in-circulation-do-you-have-one/ https://briefnews.eu/rarest-2-coin-worth-sixteen-times-original-value-in-circulation-do-you-have-one/#respond Wed, 26 Jul 2017 11:01:06 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/rarest-2-coin-worth-sixteen-times-original-value-in-circulation-do-you-have-one/

Four designs were made to celebrate the Commonwealth Games in 2002, with one for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The most sought-after of the four designs is the coin designed for England, but it can be hard to spot it among a pile of change.

This is because the four coins feature the same design with only the flag to tell them apart.

The England coin is nearly identical to the Northern Irish version, with the only mark of difference being the small “Red Hand of Ulster” on the NI coin.

ChangeChecker.org, coin experts, now rank the England coin at the top of the £2 coin scarcity index, making it the most sought after £2.

This has seen prices soar on eBay, where collectors have been selling the coin for about 16 times its value at £32.

By comparison, other rare two pound coins usually fetch around £6 to £8 when sold on.

The rare £2 coin is not the only sterling to keep an eye out for at the moment – a Beatrix Potter 50p coin featuring Jemima Puddleduck is worth £400.

Beatrix Potter, a beloved British author, was honoured with a set of coins featuring some of her most popular characters, including the bonnet wearing goose Jemima Puddle-Duck.

Many collectors are after the whole set – that includes Squirrel Nutkin, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and Peter Rabbit. This means some of the rarer coins are worth even more as fans aim to collect them all.

Some people are paying up to £400 for the coin, according to a financial expert.

The Peter Rabbit coin has proved most popular but the desire to have the whole set means the rarest coin is fast becoming the most expensive.

If you aren’t sure if your pound coin is worth anything, this is how to find out its value.

With the launch of the new 12-sided £1 coin back in March, coin collectors have been desperate to snap up coins missing from their collection, as the old £1 coins get taken out of circulation.

A full list of the most rare £1 coins can be found on ChangeChecker.org.

The new £1 coin has now been in circulation for just less than four months, and experts at Changechecker.org have revealed the rise in interest for old £1 coins could be driving up the interest of some coin

£1 coins that could make YOU hundreds: How to identify the rarest five in circulation https://briefnews.eu/1-coins-that-could-make-you-hundreds-how-to-identify-the-rarest-five-in-circulation/ https://briefnews.eu/1-coins-that-could-make-you-hundreds-how-to-identify-the-rarest-five-in-circulation/#respond Tue, 28 Mar 2017 12:17:25 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/1-coins-that-could-make-you-hundreds-how-to-identify-the-rarest-five-in-circulation/

Shoppers will have just six months to spend their old one pound coins after the new version is introduced in March.

The old coins will cease to be legal tender on October 15 and the government is now warning those with stacks of loose change sitting in savings jars or piggy banks to spend them or lose them.

But before you let your old £1 coins disappear, it’s worth checking to see if they’re worth more than their initial value.

Rare coins, such as the George V sovereign, have been going for up to £37,500.

Top five rare £1 coins which could make you an easy buck

The rarest one pound coin in currently in circulation is the Edinburgh £1 coin, issued in 2011.

There were 935,000 minted – and it’s one of four coins depicting the capital cities of the four constituents in the UK.

On eBay, a 2011 Edinburgh £1 coin is selling for £189.99.

The second rarest coin is the Cardiff £1 coin, which entered circulation in 2011.

The coin depicts the circular Coat of Arms of Cardiff and there were just 1,615,000 minted.

Although it’s selling for a lot less on eBay than the Edinburgh £1 coin, one Wales coin, gathering a lot of interest on eBay, is going for £39.99.

The third rarest is the England £1, and like the Edinburgh and Cardiff editions, was designed by Stuart Devlin, Goldsmith and Jeweller to the Queen.

There were 2,635,000 minted in 2010, and one is currently selling for £33.95 on eBay.

The next rarest is the Royal Arms £1, minted in 2008.

Although its design is more recognisable, there are only 3,910,000 in circulation.

This particular design, which could easily be confused with the Coat of Arms £1 coin issued in 2015, is selling for £22.95 on eBay.

The new £1 coin, the hardest yet to counterfeit, is the first to be introduced since 1983.

Porsche's rarest classic cars ranked – Top five most sought after cars revealed https://briefnews.eu/porsches-rarest-classic-cars-ranked-top-five-most-sought-after-cars-revealed/ https://briefnews.eu/porsches-rarest-classic-cars-ranked-top-five-most-sought-after-cars-revealed/#respond Thu, 02 Mar 2017 17:34:27 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/porsches-rarest-classic-cars-ranked-top-five-most-sought-after-cars-revealed/

1953 Porsche America Roadster 356 BARCROFT•PORSCHE

The 1953 America Roadster 356 is the rarest of the cars on the list

Porsche has given the public an exclusive look inside the Porsche Museum where their rarest cars reside, to reveal their top five most unique and sought after cars.

Here’s why these cars made the top five:

Porsche America Roadster

The 1953 356 America Roadster leads the way as the car manufacturer’s rarest ever car.

Only 16 of its kind were ever built and their estimated value sits at £511,873, a distinct increase from the £3,680 it was on sale for when it was first listed.

It was designed specifically as a lightweight track car, weighing just 605kg thanks to an aluminium body, and achieves a top speed of 109 mph from its 70bhp engine.

America Roadsters are instantly recognisable by their shimmering silver gloss paint job and its track car styling.

Head of Historical Archive at the Porsche Musem Dieter Landenberger said: “The number one spot goes to the America Roadster.

“Most of the cars enjoyed a successful motorsport career in America, where they became the inspiration for another Porsche legend – the 356 Speedster.

“In the US, the America Roadster was used by famous racing drivers such as Briggs Cunningham, Jack McAfee and Jonny von Neumann, who enjoyed great successes with it.

Porsche 911 SC/RSBARCROFT•PORSCHE

There were only 20 Porsche 911 SC/RS cars ever made

Porsche 911 SC/RS

Second on the list is the 911 SC/RS which boasts more power than the America Roadster with a six-cylinder engine that produces 250 bhp and 143 mph top speed.

The 911SC/RS, of which only 20 were made, is now valued at around £172,653.

Champion rally driver Saeed al Hajri’s famous victories in the 6,000km Qatar Rally and the Middle East-Championship in 1984 were both achieved in this very model.

Porsche intensified its commitment to using 911 models in rally races and thanks to the aluminium and plastic aspects of this car, it used to be a great favourite amongst the private teams weighing just 1,050kg.

Porsche 911 GT1BARCROFT•PORSCHE

Porsche 911 GT1

Taking third place is the road version of the 911 GT1 which boasts an estimated price of £2,552,327 up from its 1997 list price of £685,400.

Only 21 models of the GT1, the fastest Porsche on this list, were ever produced.

The lightweight sports car manages a dizzying 192 mph top speed from its 544 bhp engine.

The 911 GT1 is a racing car that is approved for road use. It was designed for the 24h Le Mans.”

Porsche 924 Carrera GTSBARCROFT•PORSCHE

The fiery Porsche 924 Carrera GTS has a rally pedigree

Porsche 924 Carrera GTS

The fiery Indian red 924 Carrera GTS made up fourth place as one of the rarest factory models.

Walter Röhrl, the most famous Porsche rally driver, holds this model in the highest regard with its wheels and brakes from the 911 turbo and its racing seats from the 935.

Röhrl pushed rallying sports in Germany to the next level as he drove the Carrera with Christian Geistdörfer in the German Rally Championship of 1981.

“Developed in 1981 for private racing, only 50 924 Carrera GTS were built – the first in white, the remaining 49 in Indian red,” Dieter added.

Currently estimated to be worth approximately £255,199 by RM Sotheby’s – the off-road performance of the Carrera makes it stand out with a four-cylinder engine that produces a 245hp.

Porsche 911 Turbo S 964 BARCROFT•PORSCHE

The iconic ‘speed yellow’ Porsche 911 Turbo S 964

Porsche 911 Turbo S 964

Completeing the list is the 1992 of which only 86 were ever put into production. It’s instantly recognisable by the specifically developed speed yellow aesthetic.

It weighed 180kg less than the standard version, thus it boasted more power.

A version of the Turbo S 964 recently sold at RM Sotherby’s Auction for a staggering £962,288 in 2016.

Dieter said: “As the first series production Porsche, the Turbo S has parts made from carbon and 18-inch wheels.

“The colour Speed Yellow was especially developed for it – nevertheless, only 86 were made.”

Many of the cars parts were manufactured using an extremely light glass fibre-reinforced composite and the rear and side windows were formed with thin glass.

Its no slacker either as the 381 horsepower engine will achieve a top speed of 180 mph.
