Two years ago, the eighth Harry Potter story debuted in the West End as a a two-part play.

Consistently sold out, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has now opened on Broadway.

And while some stars like Emma Watson have managed to see the show, Radcliffe himself hasn’t managed to and doesn’t ever intend to.

Appearing Late Night with Seth Meyers last night, the Harry Potter star revealed why.

The 29-year-old said: “I always give a really boring, terrible answer.

“I’m probably not going to see it, I don’t have plans to.

“Not because I think it would throw me into some sort of existential crisis of like, ‘Oh, is that what happened?’”

“It would not be a relaxing evening. I feel like I would be being watched for my reaction.”

Radcliffe said: “I feel like I want to see the show. I am genuinely intrigued and I’ve heard it’s fantastic.”

“But I just feel sitting in an audience of what will for the most of the near future be very enthusiastic Harry Potter fans might be like not a relaxing way to see a show,”

Hopefully, when’s a bit older Radcliffe might change his mind.

Nevertheless, he could always play an older Harry in a film version of the play one day.

It’s been a hit theatrical production since it opened in London’s West End in June 2016.

And now having opened on New York’s Broadway, fan hunger for a film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child appears to be growing.

Fans will know the play, which is performed in two parts, is a part of the official canon and set 19 years after the final Harry Potter book.

While Radcliffe, Watson and Grint portrayed the older versions of Harry, Ron and Hermione during the final scene of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, the parts are performed by other actors in the stage show of Cursed Child.

However if Warner Bros did decided to go ahead with a Cursed Child movie (or movies) it would make a lot of sense for the original actors to return – but are there any plans?

Back in August 2016 a source claimed: ““Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled. Of course in their minds only one man should be Harry.”

However JK Rowling’s representatives contacted Express Online to comment on the move.

A spokesperson said: “This type of trademarking is standard practice. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a stage play, with no plans for there to be a film.”

Speaking with Express.co.uk in May 2017, the Harry Potter producer appeared positive if Rowling was willing to go ahead with a Cursed Child movie.

He said: “Whatever she wants, as far as I’m concerned, is right. I think [Cursed Child] would make a great movie. Maybe at some point she’ll be ready to do that.

“I think it’s got a wonderful, long, theatrical run…it works brilliantly as a piece of theatre. I love the fact that there’s another aspect of the Harry Potter world which is completely different from everything else.

“I think it’s very special as it is and there will be a time when she’s maybe ready to do it [as a movie].”

So what about the film franchise’s original cast? Would they return? Here’s what Radcliffe has said over the last couple of years.

Speaking with the BBC in September 2016, Radcliffe said: “It’s only been six years [since last playing Potter] and I’m really enjoying being able to do lots of different stuff at the moment.

“Maybe if 30 years had passed I would be thinking differently. They will be doing remakes, and I could play his dad, or something.”

While in another interview he said: “I’m never going to close the door; that would be a stupid thing to do. But I think I’ll be happy enough and secure enough to let someone else play it.

At the moment it’s not even a concern because I’m too young to play the character, but even in 10 years time I would still feel strange about going back to it.”

. But presuming he and the other cast members were up for it, when would a Cursed Child movie likely be released?

Harry Potter fans will know that the fifth and final Fantastic Beasts movie is slated for a 2024 release.

If Rowling had a change of heart and gave a Cursed Child movie the green light, it could come as early as 2026.

While that’s eight years away it would be perfect timing as the play may have run its course (or might need a boost in ticket sales).

And the original film actors – Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint – will have aged sufficiently to play middle-aged versions of their characters.

In 2026 Radcliffe will turn 37-years-old. That’s exactly the same age as Harry in opening scene of the Cursed Child play.

Depp’s high-profile split from Amber Heard, in which he was accused of violence, prompted film fans to demand he be removed from the magical films.

Producers – and then author JK Rowling – in turn spoke out to defend his involvement, saying Depp and Heard had released a statement saying they wanted to “get on with their lives”.

“Based on our understanding of the circumstances, the film-makers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies,” Rowling added.

Heard later appeared to speak out on Twitter. saying: “To pick&choose certain lines & quote them out of context, is not right [sic].”

Radcliffe has now addressed the situation.

“It’s a very hard thing for me,” Radcliffe told Entertainment Weekly, acknowledging these same producers “gave me a great start in life and an amazing job.”

However he appeared to express discomfort, saying: “I can see why people are frustrated with the response that they were given from that… 

“I’m not saying anything that anybody hasn’t already said — and this is a weird analogy to draw — [but] in the NFL, there are lots of players arrested for smoking weed and there is other people’s behaviour that goes way beyond that and it’s tolerated because they’re very famous players. 

“I suppose the thing I was struck by was, we did have a guy who was reprimanded for weed on the [original Potter] film, essentially, so obviously what Johnny has been accused of is much greater than that.”

Indeed, Jamie Waylett – who played Vincent Crabbe in the first six Harry Potter movies – was axed from the two Deathly Hallows blockbusters after being arrested for possession of marijuana. He faced formal criminal charges, which admittedly is something that has not happened to Depp.

As it stands, Depp plays Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, due out later this year.

He is joined by Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Zoe Kravitz and – as a young Dumbledore – Jude Law.

Regular exercise reduces your risk of heart disease and strokes by as much as 35 per cent. Diabetes risk is cut by up to 50 per cent with regular exercise, and early death risk by 30 per cent.

People are less active now than they once were, as it’s easy to rely on modern technology.

The average person spends about seven hours a day sitting down, research has revealed.

But, Radcliffe – the current women’s world record holder for the fastest marathon – said exercising is a good experience.

Athletes wanting to get the most out of their exercise should prepare well, and enjoy the experience, Radcliffe told Express.co.uk..

She advised people preparing for a major event, including a marathon, to use plenty of hand sanitiser to make sure they don’t get sick during training.

“Just be freakish with hand sanitiser before an event,” she said.

“I’d say just get the most out of the challenge, because that’s what it is; it’s a challenge.

“Prepare well and enjoy the experience; it’s a good experience after all.”

Any long-distance runners preparing for a marathon must practice a lot before the event, the famous British runner urged. 

“It’s important to practice properly,” Radcliffe said. 

“Eating well is important, and watch out for warning signs.”

Suffering from asthma, the former world champion was always careful to follow the standard advice from Asthma UK, she said.

The charity recommends that asthmatics train indoors on high pollution days, or if your condition is triggered by cold weather.

“I always took my resting heart rate on the morning of practice, and then again at the end of training,” Radcliffe advised.

Tracking your heart when resting and immediately after exercise is a good indicator of whether you’re exercising enough, according to the British Heart Foundation.

The average heart rate at rest is between 60 and 100 beats per minute.

The maximum recommended heart rate (bpm) is 220 minus your age.

The consequences of flu could be serious, Radcliffe said, whose own asthma has developed into bronchitis a number of times.

Radcliffe’s comments after reports that deadly Aussie flu was headed to the UK.

Australia is in the midst of its worst outbreak of the flu in 50 years.

Being vaccinated this winter against flu will help those most at-risk from flu to be protected, Radcliffe said.

“When you feel fit and healthy it is easy to think that you don’t need to worry about having a flu vaccination,” she said. 

“You think that if you are unlucky enough to contract flu, your body will be able to fight it off.

“However, even though I’m an athlete, and have my asthma under control, I know the consequences of flu could be serious.”

Radcliffe had to pull out of the World Cross Country Championships in 1993, after her asthma developed into bronchitis.

“I was so ill, despite the fact I’d been eating healthily in an effort to boost my immunity!

“That taught me about the importance of being vaccinated against flu.”

People with asthma, diabetes, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and autoimmune conditions at risk of developing severe complications from flu.

Complications include bronchitis, pneumonia, and even death.

Despite the risks, less than half of at-risk patients were vaccinated against flu last year.

The vaccine is part of the national immunisation programme, and is completely free.

Doctors have been worrying about the small numbers of at-risk patients being vaccinated, according to vaccine maker Sanofi Pasteur.

“For several years the medical community has been concerned about the consistently low number of eligible people in at-risk groups taking up the NHS flu vaccination,” said Sanofi Pasteur UK & Ireland’s Medical Head, Dr Ian Gray.

“In fact, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence is developing guidance, due out in January 2018, about helping to increase the uptake of the free flu vaccination among people who are eligible.”

In the UK, between 4,000 and 14,000 people die every year from flu complications, according to the World Health Organization.

Paula Radcliffe claims motherhood has made her much calmer

Now 43 and having retired from competitive running, the relaxed mother of two seems nothing like the highly strung and often tearful athlete of her heyday. 

And it appears that the many setbacks and crises she has faced on and off the track over the years have kept her grounded and with a good sense of perspective. 

“Having my lovely family has really helped to give my life balance,” says Paula, who married her former manager, Gary Lough, 46, in 2000.

The couple now live in Monaco with their two children, Isla, 10, and Raphael, six. 

“Being a mum has made me so much calmer,” she adds. 

“At the end of the day you simply can’t get too embroiled in your own dramas, as when you get home children want to tell you all about their day and what is happening in their lives.” 

Although not one to dwell on regrets, she admits that in the past there have been times in her life when she has struggled to cope. 

After breaking records at the London Marathon in 2002, Paula was expected to bring home a gold medal at the Olympics in Athens two years later but due to injury she was unable to finish her race and faced an outburst of public derision at home. “That was very difficult,” recalls Paula.

“I felt I’d let everyone down. As an athlete I had learnt how to be physically resilient and I had to build on my mental strength.” 

Then of course there was that well-documented public pit stop at the London Marathon in 2005, followed by years of injury that blighted her Olympic ambitions. 

“Competing was never stressful to me because I knew that if I’d put in the preparation and hard work and had the right attitude I would do well,” says Paula. 

“What was difficult was dealing with the unexpected. After all, you don’t plan to get injured and I think resilience is learning to adapt to change and to never regret.”

Now she has retired she seems a world away from the ultra competitive world of running

Perhaps the most difficult time in her life came, she says, in 2014 when she was embroiled in unfounded doping allegations. 

Paula, always an avid anti-doping campaigner, was cleared of any wrongdoing at the beginning of last year but she admits that she found the whole affair incredibly stressful. 

One of her greatest assets during that difficult period, she says, was not only the support of her family but also her innate ability to open up. 

“I was brought up to talk about my feelings rather than burying them and I have always found that an incredible help. I teach my children to do the same if they have problems.” 

Then of course there was running; an instant stress-buster, that has always been a great passion as well as a career. She has also become keen on kayaking since moving to Monaco. 

“I am so lucky to live in such a beautiful place and to be able to enjoy such stunning scenery as I exercise,” she says. 

“I feel grateful as it makes it very easy to switch off.” 

With the doping allegations now behind her, Paula truly appreciates all the good things in her life. 

And she knows her children are very fortunate to be growing up in Monaco, where they can ski, swim and climb mountains. 

“It’s a slower, more relaxed pace of life,” she says.

The 43-year-old says her family helps give her life balance

“We can take the kids out for a meal late into the evening and they will get really good, nutritious food. It certainly won’t be chicken nuggets and chips.” 

However, she is not prescriptive about their diet. “They are very active and they eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and take their vitamins, so I certainly don’t ban anything. It’s all about balance, isn’t it?” Both Isla and Raphael are very sporty and Paula never has to worry that they’re not exercising. 

“If they’re not out in the water, they’re on their bikes or running around,” she says. 

“They belong to various clubs and if they wanted to make a career out of sport that wouldn’t worry me. In fact I’d support them all the way.” 

One of Paula’s bugbears is the fact that so many children lose out on the opportunity to shine at sport because schools have taken the competitive element out of it.

She also fears that a whole generation is growing up without ever learning how to be really active. 

“Kids should be out running around,” she insists. 

“But often they’re not allowed to do things such as French skipping or gymnastics in the playground and at home there are all these electronic devices. 

“Being inactive isn’t good for children mentally or physically. I feel strongly about this.” 

These days, Paula is juggling motherhood with a new career as a sports commentator but instead of pushing herself as she might have done in the past, she tries to be kind to her body. 

Diagnosed with asthma at the age of 13, she confounded doctors who never believed she’d be able to make it in elite sport. 

“As with any condition, it’s about managing it,” stresses Paula, who regularly uses an inhaler and boosts her immune system with a supplement called Revive Active, containing vitamins and minerals.
