An African-American nominee for the Wisconsin State Assembly told RT that she felt hurt and humiliated after being racially profiled and reported to cops as she was canvassing her electorate in a predominantly white neighborhood.

Ahead of the Democratic primary for a state Assembly seat in Wisconsin’s 77th District, Shelia Stubbs was knocking on doors in her neighborhood trying to secure votes in August. As she was campaigning, an anonymous call was placed, notifying the police of a “suspicious vehicle” potentially involved in drug-dealing.

When approached by a patrol officer, the 12-year veteran of the Dane County Board of Supervisors was forced to provide detailed explanations of her activities in the neighborhood. After seeing her name tag and campaign fliers, the police were still unconvinced and questioned her 71-year-old mother to clear the matter. The entire interrogation unfolded in front of her eight-year-old daughter who was patiently waiting with her grandmother inside Stubbs’ car.

“I’m definitely a victim of racial profiling and the police was called on me because I was black,” Stubbs told RT, calling the police response “insulting” and a “waste of our taxpayers’ dollars.”

“My eight-year-old daughter looks at my eyes and says, ‘Mom, why don’t we belong here?’ Why don’t they believe us?’ and that degraded me and humiliated me. And I was so angry and I was so hurt,” she recalled.

The unpleasant experience has forced the official to halt her campaigning in the neighborhood out of fear that someone might once-again report her to the police. In light of the incident, Stubbs sought justice and an “apology” from the anonymous caller, all while wondering “What does a drug-dealer look like? What does a drug-dealer car look like?”

After securing the Democratic primary vote, Stubbs had vowed to campaign against racial injustice ahead of the November election.

MLS player Adama Diomande says he was racially abused while playing for Los Angeles FC against Portland Timbers in the US Open Cup on Wednesday.

Diomande, who has formerly played at Hull City in England, claimed he was called the n-word in the 3-2 victory against Portland, adding it was the first time he had been racially abused on the pitch in his decade-long professional career.

The 28-year-old made the statement about the slur on his Instagram account, with the post accompanied by a black square.

The accompanying message read: “Today was the first time in my professional career that I was called the «N» word on the field. They will say sorry to me after the game and please let it go, but If I don’t say anything racism will just continue to grow.

“No matter which country, color, religion or which language your speaking we all are human being and we should respect each other no matter what!”

Diomande was born in Oslo, Norway, to parents who hailed from Ivory Coast. He has made 11 appearances for the Norwegian national team, and moved to Los Angeles FC in May, having spent three years in England with Hull City. His earlier career saw spells at Dinamo Minsk in Belarus, as well as clubs in his homeland.

His claims of racial abuse met support on social media, with messages including: “Racism has no place in the game — the MLS community stands behind you Dio.”

MLS is yet to comment on the alleged incident.

In January, Dallas Fuel pro Felix “xQc” Lengyel drew a suspension for violating the Overwatch League’s Code of Conduct while streaming for using an anti-gay slur, and now he has been suspended again. The League announced that this four-game suspension is because Lengyel “repeatedly used an emote in a racially disparaging manner on the league’s stream and on social media,” and used “disparaging language” toward casters and other players on his stream and social media.

Malik Forte and Xavier Woods

Lyngel posted a “Trihard” emote (it is the face of Mychal “Trihex” Jefferson, a black man who streams on Twitch) while League host Malik Forté was on screen. He claimed it was an accident. During his last suspension, the Fuel extended it and said they would devote additional support to help him reflect the team’s principles. This time the team has been quiet, but last night it also announced the signing of tank main (the position played by xQc) Son “OGE” Min-Seok.

Other players disciplined by the League include another Fuel tank player, Timo “Taimou” Kettunen who reportedly used anti-gay slurs during a personal stream and was fined $ 1,000. He apologized on Twitter, and said “I am sorry to the fans and supporters I let down and offended recently. I listen and read all the comments and I am utmost disappointed in myself that I said those things and all I can do is apologize and move forward.”

Houston Outlaws coach Tae-yeong “TaiRong” Kim received a formal warning due to posting an offensive meme that joked about the 1945 bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He also apologized and made a donation to the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation. Finally, LA Valiant player Ted “Silkthread” Wang, received a $ 1,000 fine for violating the Blizzard TOS regarding account sharing.

As Blizzard attempts to expand its eSports influence it is increasingly facing questions about dealing with player conduct, however, the internet’s focus is on pro gamers to an even higher degree than athletes in other sports, and in new ways. While we’ve seen leagues like the NBA fine or suspend players for using slurs or getting into trouble off the field, they don’t usually have to dig into emote usage and chat logs to make a determination about how to handle things. The connectedness of viewers is a factor also — during tonight’s Twitch stream of league play, the same “Trihard” meme has been spammed in the chat almost constantly.

Asay, 53, who was convicted of double murder in 1987, was pronounced dead at the state prison in Starke at 6:22pm Thursday. His murder convictions are based on the shootings of Robert Lee Booker, 34, and Robert McDowell, 26. Booker was a black man and McDowell was mixed white and Hispanic.

Etomidate, the anesthetic used to end Asay’s life, had been approved for lethal injections by the Florida Supreme Court, but doctors hired by Asay’s attorneys say the previously unused drug causes pain and involuntary writhing, according to the Guardian.

Earlier Thursday, the high court rejected Asay’s final appeal to avoid his execution without issuing a comment.

Asay hired McDowell, who at the time was a prostitute dressing like a woman. When Asay found out McDowell’s true gender, he killed him, prosecutors said. And when Asay murdered Booker, he purportedly made racist comments toward him.

In an August 23 interview with WJXT’s Tom Wills, Asay acknowledged that he shot and killed McDowell in a drunken rage he does not remember, but Asay denied being a racist and killing Booker.

Asay was asked his thoughts on the August 12 “Unite The Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, that ended with the death of a counter-demonstrator.

“I think it’s foolishness,” he said. “I think it’s time that people come together and accept that it’s just ignorance.”

Asay said in the interview that he had white supremacist tattoos, such as a swastika, but said he only had the ink done to protect himself in jail at the age of 19. Asay stated that he had since covered up, burned or removed the ones on his body that he could reach.

Asay said he was not afraid of dying because he was a born-again Christian. He had also been seeking spiritual guidance from a black man named Norman Smith of Calvary Chapel in Melbourne, Florida.

Smith said Asay admitted to hurling racial epithets at Booker before he murdered him, but mentioned that he was drunk and angry, not a racist.

Smith spent two hours with Asay before he was put to death and the two spoke about the comments he made when killing Booker.

“Until I heard that, I would’ve never known that this man was tagged as a racist,” Smith said.

Before Thursday’s execution, Asay was asked if he wanted to make a final statement before he was put to death, to which he responded, “No sir, I do not. Thank you,” according to WTOP.

A spokeswoman for the Florida Corrections Department, Michelle Glady, said there were no complications during the execution, and Asay did not speak as it transpired.

The execution was Florida’s first since the practice was halted by the US Supreme Court in the state after finding Florida’s methods for sentencing people to execution were unconstitutional.

Enrollment at the University of Missouri is plummeting two years after the school was rocked by racially charged protests, according to a New York Times report on Monday.

Freshman enrollment at the school has fallen 35% since 2015, costing it millions of dollars in lost tuition, and leaving it desperate for funding, the Times reported.

The dropoff is especially pronounced among minority students — freshman enrollment among black students fell 42%, compared to 21% among white freshmen. The newest data continue the downward trend that officials recognized early last year.

University officials openly acknowledge the events of 2015 as having caused the dramatic decrease. Prompted by reports of racial animosity on campus, as well as the 2014 police shooting of Michael Brown in nearby Ferguson, students formed the Concerned Student 1950 movement and set up a tent city on campus to stage protests against the school’s administration. (The group’s name refers to the year the University of Missouri admitted its first black student.)

In November 2015, the protesters joined forces with graduate student Jonathan Butler, who began a hunger strike he said would end if university system president Timothy Wolfe resigned. Aided by the school’s football team, who vowed not to play or practice until Wolfe resigned, Wolfe and school chancellor R. Bowen Loftin resigned in November.

Now, the university is struggling to shake its reputation and attract new students. Some prospective students shunned the school because of a perceived reputation of discrimination. One white student interviewed by The Times said he elected to attend another in-state school because he feared being painted as a racist at the University of Missouri campus.

The school is hoping to make up some of the lost revenue by renting out vacant dorm rooms for weekends with major events, such as football games and viewings of the upcoming solar eclipse in August, according to The Times.

Dr. Kang Lee, professor at OISE’s Jackman Institute of Child Study, has caused controversy with his suggestion that babies racially profile from as early as six-months-old. 

Shattering Lee’s results, Piers Morgan snapped: “Let me stop you. We’ve had four kids, we’ve had happy and sad music; happy music makes the smile, sad music makes them sad. 

“We’ve got two babies here, one is black and one is white, how can they have any kind of prejudice?”

He continued: “I remember showing my baby a tortoise for the first time at six-months old, does that make him anti-tortoise?”

Lee fired back: “If you familiarise your child with a tortoise they start showing non-negative reaction to animals; the same can be true if you show them to other individuals.”

Back in the studio, Piers, 52, was joined by two mothers and their children, and he turned to them and asked: “Does this make any sense to you?”

“Not really,” they sighed.

As the babies held hands, Piers joked: “Here we have racial harmony between babies. We’ve just seen black baby shake hands with a little white baby – your theory has gone up in smoke!

“They can’t get enough of each other. You can’t get two less booted people on god’s earth. I love it when a theory is disproven in sensational fashion.” 

Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid made a welcomed return to Good Morning Britain today after taking a two week break for Easter. 

Eamonn Holmes filled in for divisive host Piers and was reunited with his GMTV co-host Kate Garraway.

OLATHE, Kan. (AP) — Prosecutors on Thursday charged a 51-year-old man with murder and attempted murder after he allegedly opened fire in a crowded suburban Kansas City bar, killing one man and injuring two others, but authorities declined to say if the attack was racially-motivated.

A bartender at Austins Bar and Grill in Oathe, Kansas, said that Adam Purinton, 51, used “racial slurs” before he started shooting on Wednesday night as patrons were watching the University of Kansas-TCU basketball game on television.

Srinivas Kuchibhotla, 32, died at an area hospital, police said. Alok Madasani, 32, and Ian Grillot, 24, were hospitalized and are in stable condition, they said. Witnesses said Grillot had stepped in and tried to stop the shooter. The Linked-in accounts for Kuchibhotla and Madasani say that they were engineers working at GPS-maker Garmin, who had studied in India.

Bartender Garret Bohnen told the Kansas City Star that Kuchibhotla and Madasani stopped at Austins for a drink once or twice a week.

“From what I understand when he was throwing racial slurs at the two gentlemen (Kuchibhotla and Madasani), Ian (Grillot) stood up for them,” Bohnen said. “We’re all proud of him.”

Olathe Police Chief Steve Menke declined to comment on the reports of racial comments, but said they were working with the FBI “to investigate any and all aspects of this horrific crime.”

Purinton was taken into custody just after midnight on Thursday morning at an Applebee’s about 70 miles to the southeast of Olathe in Clinton, Missouri, authorities said.

Assistant Clinton Police Chief Sonny Lynch said an Applebee’s bartender summoned police to the bar where the man was drinking because he said he’d been involved in a shooting. The unarmed Purinton was taken into custody and interviewed by detectives from Olathe.

“He mentioned he had been involved in a shooting and we went out there and picked him up,” Lynch said.
