Lawyers representing Dominion Voting Systems is now asking producers for Tucker Carlson to sit for depositions in their sprawling $ 1.6 billion election defamation lawsuit against Fox News.
According to a series of filings this week, Dominion has asked Justin Wells, Eldad Yaron, Alex Pfieffer, producers for Tucker Carlson, as well as John Fawcett, a former associate producer for former Fox host Lou Dobbs to sit for depositions by the end of September.
On March 26, 2021, Dominion filed a defamation lawsuit against Fox News seeking $ 1.6 billion in damages, claiming that the network gave prominence to the election-fraud claims as a tactic to revive viewership as ratings dropped after President Donald Trump's loss.
Dominion manufactures and sells electronic voting hardware, software, and voting machines, and was repeatedly targeted with conspiracies in the wake of the 2020 election.
And in the company's lawsuit, Dominion claimed that Fox News "sold a false story of election fraud in order to serve its own commercial purposes, severely injuring Dominion in the process."
Two months later, Fox News filed to dismiss the motion, and by December 2021, a judge had rejected Fox's motion.
"We are confident we will prevail as freedom of the press is foundational to our democracy and must be protected, in addition to the damages claims being outrageous, unsupported and not rooted in sound financial analysis, serving as nothing more than a flagrant attempt to deter our journalists from doing their jobs," a spokesperson for Fox News told Insider in a statement.
Attorneys for Fox News did not immediately return Insider's request for comment.
The case is set to go to trial in April 2023, and the voting company will aim to use key testimonies from the producers to build its case.
In June, Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric M. Davis ruled that Dominion's lawsuit could move forward including claims against Fox Corporation, Fox News's parent company run by Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch.
Davis argued that Fox News's parent company Fox Corporation could also be found to be liable for pushing and directing the campaign of election lies, particularly after Fox News called Arizona for Joe Biden and as the network sought to regain lost viewers from right-wing channels like Newsmax and One America News Network.
In February 2021, another voting systems company, Smartmatic, filed a defamation lawsuit against Fox News, Sidney Powell, Rudy Giuliani, and current and former hosts, which is moving forward in New York.

At the age of 19, he single-handedly yanked “Saturday Night Live” back from the brink of cancellation after the departure of the original cast, and was all of 21 when he shot to big-screen stardom opposite Nick Nolte in Walter Hill’s action-comedy classic, “48 Hrs.” His second feature, “Trading Places,” was also a critical and commercial hit, while his stand-up LP “Eddie Murphy: Comedian” went platinum. By 1984, Murphy was so hot, Paramount inserted him into the finished Dudley Moore comedy “Best Defense” in the hopes that he could enliven the deathly unfunny film with his ad-libbed brilliance. It didn’t work, but no one held it against Murphy. The movie was just that bad.
There was no question that Murphy had turned into one of Hollywood’s biggest stars overnight, but his first two hits had been two-handers. He had yet to carry a film on his own. So more than a few eyebrows arched when Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer cast him as Axel Foley in “Beverly Hills Cop.” For close to a decade, Paramount had developed the movie as a fish-out-of-water action flick. Mickey Rourke was once eyed as the leading man, and the movie came very close to production with Sylvester Stallone as the loose-cannon detective who shakes up the tony Los Angeles neighborhood while trying to track down the drug traffickers who killed his best friend.
This sounded a bit like “Best Defense” redux: a troubled project hastily retrofitted to accommodate Murphy’s comedic genius. It wasn’t long into production, however, that director Martin Brest, who repeatedly turned down the movie until he literally lost a coin flip, realized he had a potential blockbuster on his hands. This Murphy kid was the goods.

Paramount had high hopes for “Beverly Hills Cop” going into 1984’s holiday season, but the buzz was primarily focused on ambitious sci-fi movies like “Dune,” “2010” and “Starman.” There was also Francis Ford Coppola’s pricey gangland epic “The Cotton Club” and another cop comedy in the Clint Eastwood-Burt Reynolds vehicle “City Heat.” Eddie would bury them all.
According to Nick De Semlyen’s immensely entertaining “Wild and Crazy Guys: How the Comedy Mavericks of the ’80s Changed Hollywood Forever,” the studio was so excited by the euphoric response to an early test screening that they pumped an extra $ 2 million into the advertising budget, went wide on over 1,500 screens and opened the movie two days early on a Wednesday (a move typically reserved for event films). Paramount got a jump on the December competition, and, by Christmas, “Beverly Hills Cop” was the only wide-release movie anyone was talking about.
In the view of the film’s co-screenwriter, Daniel Petrie Jr., the film’s success hinged not just on Murphy’s high-wattage appeal, but in its subversion of cop movie cliches.
“In most films the cop wakes up alone in a sh***y apartment, has a cup of horrible coffee, then gets served divorce papers by his wife. But in this one you can see the enjoyment pouring out of Eddie all the time. Even though he’s at odds with all the people around him, he charms them all.”

“Beverly Hills Cop” blew past the $ 100 million barrier in early January 1985, while the aforementioned would-be blockbusters languished. 20th Century Fox president Tom Sherak groused that Murphy was “the Grinch that stole Christmas.” Amazingly, the film hung out in the top five of the U.S. box office until Memorial Day, and bucked the video rental market by hitting VHS in the fall of 1985 at a priced-to-sell $ 29.99 (at the time, most new releases cost an obscene $ 79.99).
Hollywood responded by rushing a number of imitation action-comedies into production. Some were pretty good (Brest’s “Midnight Run” wound up becoming the platonic ideal of the subgenre), but the formula quickly grew stale. Murphy eventually lost interest as well. He’s completely checked out in “Another 48 Hrs.,” and couldn’t get it out of third gear in “Beverly Hills Cop III.” This makes it difficult to work up any real enthusiasm for the currently shooting “Beverly Hills Cop IV.” Murphy is now 61. He’s older than Bill Cosby was when he made “Ghost Dad.” Though he proved he still had his fastball when he hosted “Saturday Night Live” in 2019, he sleep-walked through 2021’s “Coming 2 America.”
If you grew up in the 1980s, you’re instinctively rooting for Murphy. It wasn’t just his generational talent. It was his age. He paid his nightclub dues while most kids are doing their geometry homework. He was so very far ahead of schedule, and shone so brightly at multiple stages of his career. Barring a late-breaking miracle, “Beverly Hills Cop” will remain the apex. No one was ever funnier or more magnetic. Arguably, no one was ever a bigger star.

This post contains spoilers for the season 6 premiere of “Rick and Morty.”
“Rick and Morty” stands at a curious place when it comes to animated sitcoms. As a comedy, the show has always known how to deliver hilarious standalone episodes, a craft that’s been slowly lost to time in the age of streaming. From “Pickle Rick” to “Total Rickall” to “The Vat of Acid Episode,” there are episodes you can easily watch over and over again on their own and they continue to hold up. These stories focus on a simple sci-fi premise and exploit them for every laugh they’re worth.
But every once in a while, the series drops a bit of lore, a key backstory reveal that makes its world feel larger and lived-in. Whether it’s the history of the Council of Ricks or the story of Rick’s adventures with his alien friends fighting against the Federation, “Rick and Morty” has slowly but surely built up an intriguing mythology that fans can obsess over. And yet, any time the show has the chance to become a proper serialized story, it laughs in the face of canon. As co-creator Dan Harmon told IGN, he doesn’t think he’s good at writing canon that leads to an actual ending.
Indeed, much of the show’s major canon was seemingly put to an end last season when Evil Morty literally destroyed the Citadel and yeeted himself to a universe without Rick. But that doesn’t mean we still can’t have callbacks to past events. In fact, season 6 begins with one of the best callbacks the show has done in some time, and it involves Jerry Smith.

The premiere picks up shortly after the season 5 finale, with the Citadel destroyed and Rick and Morty drifting in space. After a great “Avengers: Endgame” parody, the duo is rescued by space clone Beth and brought back to Earth, where Rick resets the multidimensional fluid required to repair his broken portal gun. The problem is that this resets every interdimensional traveler in this dimension. This applies to Rick — who we know is from a dimension where he lost his wife and his daughter — and Morty — who hails from a dimension where every human turned into a Cronenberg monster after Morty’s love potion got out of control. But Jerry also arrives glowing green just like Rick and Morty. Why? Because of the Jerryboree of course!
The Jerryboree made its debut in the season 2 episode “Mortynight Run,” the episode that introduced audiences to the Blips and Chitz arcade and the game “Roy: A Life Well Lived” and followed Morty’s adventure befriending an alien assassin that bought guns from Rick. But before they could finish the shady deal, Rick and Morty have to deal with a stowaway Jerry. Their solution? Leave him at a daycare. And at some point, a Rick decided it would be useful to leave his Jerry at a safe place, so a daycare at a Furp Rock Plaza on an unregistered cross-temporal asteroid was opened. There are dozens of Jerrys at any time, and they have miniature models, a ball pit, a TV with customizable settings for the Jerrys to play with, and an employee in a big Beth costume serving as a mascot.
At the end of “Mortynight Run,” Rick and Morty return to Jerryboree to pick up Jerry, but Morty accidentally crashed into another Morty and both their ticket stubs fall to the ground. This forces Rick to simply pick a Jerry at random. It was a silly, funny end to the story, not really meant to be a mystery, let alone a story with any serious repercussions. Until now.

The season 6 premiere, “Solaricks,” answers the question many fans had forgotten: did Rick pick the right Jerry? It turns out … he didn’t! So when Rick and Morty return to their original dimensions, Jerry also teleports away to a dimension straight out of season 2 — Jerry is still out of a job and constantly the butt of the joke for the rest of the family.
But even if “Rick and Morty” isn’t strictly a serialized show, we have seen the characters grow and change over the years, even if it’s just a little bit. This is not the same Jerry from season 2 — he’s gotten back together with Beth, he has a job (presumably), he has gone on big adventures with Rick, and he is an interdimensional traveler. He has every right to mock his former family and tell them to suck his interdimensional a**, and when he tells Beth that he’s glad they spent time divorced, you believe him.Hhe’s come out stronger on the other side.
Sure, finding out more about Rick’s backstory, or seeing the saga of Evil Morty take place is thrilling, but it is just as satisfying to see “Rick and Morty” recalling a tiny mystery it had seemingly forgotten.
“Rick and Morty” airs new episodes Sundays on Adult Swim.

]]>A “Stellaride” proposal sure would be a wonderful thing to celebrate during #OneChicago Day, wouldn’t it? Alas, today’s virtual festivities for NBC’s Windy City-set franchise won’t include an engagement party for Chicago Fire‘s Severide and Stella. But given how long the couple has been dating, we couldn’t help but ask star Taylor Kinney during a recent press junket if the rescue squad lieutenant is going to put a ring on it.
“He better hope that he doesn’t try to get engaged psychically. He’s going to have to use his words and talk,” Kinney replied with a chuckle, his reference to Severide’s infamous communication issues earning boisterous laughter from his co-star Miranda Rae Mayo.
“It’d be a Severide move to just hide a ring in the glove box in the car or something and be like, ‘She’ll open it, she’ll find it. And if she doesn’t, then she must not want to marry me. We’re done.’ Hopefully, if it does come to it, he comes up with a better plan than not speaking,” Kinney concluded with a laugh.
According to showrunner Derek Haas, all hope is not lost for the pair. “I would be surprised if we got through this season without some kind of big ‘Stellaride’ advancement,” Haas hinted in a separate interview.
But first, Stella and Severide need to get through their current relationship rough patch. After discovering that people were gossiping about Stella’s quick climb up the CFD ladder and how sleeping with a connected firefighter probably isn’t hurting her, Severide decided to give his girlfriend space. But rather than explaining the situation, he repeatedly gave her half-hearted excuses for why he couldn’t help her study for the lieutenant’s exam like he promised. Stella, of course, picked up on his weird behavior.
“I don’t think I’m pulling the wool over [her] eyes,” Kinney noted with a smile. “It’s not like he’s trying to hide the thing, because he’s not that good at it. He’s just not good at communicating. So instead of coming out and saying exactly what is on his mind, he comes up with a bunch of pretty bad excuses, which in turn, she sees, and then she’s like, ‘OK, if we’re gonna play this game, I’m out. So figure it out, and you talk to me later, but I’m not sticking around for this game,’ because she’s sick of it. And I think he comes to terms like, ‘S–t, I gotta get my stuff together,’ and then in the episodes to come, hopefully, he comes to his senses and it works out, and he talks to her.”
But with Severide, he feels like the situation “has to be either this or either that,” Mayo added. “Looking back at it now, it’s so funny. He totally could have chose not to tell her when she was so excited [about the exam], but then [he could have been honest] later that night.”

Ever since the first episode of Disney+’s The Mandalorian came to a most unexpected close, we and Din Djarin have had many questions about the valuable asset he tracked, found, delivered, reclaimed, and to this day has duly protected.
* What is his (and thus Yoda’s) species called?
* What is the Child’s given name? (Maybe “George”?)
* What is Moff Gideon’s endgame for the Child and his midichlorian-rich blood?
* And where are the rest of Baby Yoda’s kind, whom Mando now seeks?
These are all well and good queries. And who knows, maybe the back half of Season 2 (releasing new episodes every Friday) will at least brush up against a half of a half of an answer to one or more of those mysteries.
But let’s rewind a bit, to that very first episode of TV’s first live-action Star Wars series, and ponder this:
Why had the Child been secreted away — or perhaps abandoned, purposely or not — inside that Arvala-7 encampment in the first place?
That in turn begs its own follow-up questions, such as: Who was tending to the 50-year-old lad during his time there? And while the Nikto mercenaries were determined to fight off/kill any who came seeking the Child, why did none of them turn in the clearly valuable bounty themselves?
The more one revisits the few known facts about the Child’s presence on Arvala-7, the more mysterious it becomes. “Many have passed through” those parts in search of the Child, the Ugnaught Kuiil told Mando when they first met. (And all of the “many” to date had died in their quest.)
Kuiil later told Mando upon arriving at the encampment, “Since these ones [guarding it] arrived, this territory has been an endless stream of mercenaries seeking reward… and leaving destruction.”
So, “many” have come after the Child — “an endless stream of mercenaries,” in fact. That suggests Baby Yoda had been hidden behind that steel door for quite some time. And yet there were no signs the Child was being cared for, fed. (Maybe that’s why he is so damn hungry all the time!) The room was dim and dusty. And his pram was actually half-draped by a ratty blanket — not enough so that any hint of an attempt to conceal it from a passerby was being made.
And yet there he was suddenly found, after being aggressively sought by “many.”
Did the Nikto mercs have any idea what they were guarding? (And if they had been recruited on the Child’s behalf, did Mando and IG-11 in fact whack some good-ish guys? Whoops.)
But Niktos are by and large mercenaries/enforcers. Not exactly a noble species by nature. That said, some have been Jedi — namely, Ima-Gun Di from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. So although Ima-Gun Di, for one, died decades prior, maybe another Nikto Jedi enlisted his brethren to protect this Force-sensitive creature?
What do you think — was Baby Yoda being hidden on Arvala-7? And if so, by whom? Or based on the grim environment in which he was found, had the Child been abandoned, perhaps inadvertently/in the heat of a moment?

Someone else wrote: “Absolutely. What is the point of Jenrick coming on #bbcbreakfast ? Total waste of time. Never answers the actual question. Obnoxious.”
However, others disagreed: “@BBCBreakfast @RobertJenrick very clear and succinct replies from the Mp. Usual aggression from Charlie most unhelpful and rude.”
“For goodness sake Charlie, stop the aggressive *gotcha* closed questions…Covid Marshalls …& LISTEN to the rational answer!” Another fumed.
While one added: “@BBCBreakfast cringeworthy Charlie this morning asking the same repetitive questions that someone cant and won’t answer – pointless.”
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.

A BBC insider said: “The show has been on for a long time and the producers think it’s time to give it a new look.
“Sue, Matt and Tuffers have been so popular, so the producers are aware they will have big shoes to fill.
“With the 50th anniversary this year they thought it would be a good time to revamp things,” the source told Daily Star.
Former professional tennis player Sue took over as presenter from commentator David Coleman in 1997 who had replaced David Vine in 1979.
The first episode of the long-running quiz show was broadcast in 1970 and has only ever had three hosts in its 50 years on TV.

Fiona Bruce has been hosting a new format of the panel show in recent weeks. Guests on Question Time have been answering video questions amid the coronavirus outbreak to maintain social distancing. Tonight’s show included guests Brandon Lewis, the Northern Ireland secretary, Rachel Reeves, Shadow chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Peter Openshaw, Professor of experimental medicine at Imperial College, comedian and write Ruby Wax and Darren McGarvey, a Scottish rapper also known as Loki.
But it seems the Good Morning Britain presenter was not impressed with their debate this evening, as he savaged the show on Twitter after it aired.
He wrote: “Love Question Time but that was an absolute shocker tonight.
“Biggest crisis since WW2 & we’re served up a ranting Scottish rapper, Ruby Wax plugging her business, a scientist praising China (WTF?) and two dull politicians spouting platitudes.
“Very disappointing.“
Followers of Piers Morgan have echoed the presenter’s sentiments of the show’s lack of quality.
Steve Richards: “I’m surprised you’re surprised.
“There’s something rotten at the heart of this programme.
“A shame, it used to be great, several years ago.”
In response, Mark Holdstock asked “is anyone watching Question Time any more?”

The show also focused on the public- health sector’s status in the coronavirus pandemic.
Peter Openshaw, Professor of experimental medicine at Imperial College, commented that there wasn’t enough investment into the sector to effectively handle the virus.
He said: “It’s incredibly important to appreciate the great work of the scientists who’ve been developing testing in this country have been doing.
“They’ve been working really hard to build up from a low place because there hasn’t been enough investment in public health over the last 10 years, and the public health structure has been reorganised repeatedly.
“I think we do know now that we can get on with the testing, but it’s important that it’s really high quality…”
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK reached 65,077 on Thursday.
At least 7,978 have died after contracting the virus.
Lockdown measures are likely to be extended beyond the initial three weeks to further stem chances of infection.
As tough as it may be for fans to hear, these comments seemingly confirm that Laura won’t be making a reappearance in later episodes of TWD.
Unless she has a drawn out death scene as she suffers from her devastating injuries, and it’s unlikely the majority fans would be willing to sit through a sequence as sadistic as that.
Beta and Alpha survived the ordeal of the last episode, so devoted viewers are anticipating a thrilling lead up to the next season finale in true TWD style.
The Walking Dead season 10 continues on AMC on Sunday and Fox UK on Mondays.

“I’ve got very great personal affection for Jeremy and I have absolutely no intention of walking back into an internal row in the Labour party and politics having just taken a life decision to leave politics after 35 years on the front line,” Mr Watson commented.
“It’s not my job anymore. I’m an ex-politician, I’m the most chilled out person you will ever meet and I’m not going to do the day-to-day stuff.”
Stayt’s co-host Sally Nugent then chipped in to ask: “Do you think that affection you have for Jeremy Corbyn that a lot of people have damaged the Labour party in the end?”
Watson replied: “He’s a very charismatic man, I think what you’re hinting at is a challenge that people liked him a great deal and could see him as the Prime Minister, but maybe some people couldn’t do that.”
BBC Breakfast continued on BBC One tomorrow at 6am.
