Comedian Matt Forde, who also does Boris Johnson, said: “It’s funny to hear people who are in ultimate authority saying and doing such ludicrous things. It’s a joy. “I really go for it and turn it up a dial to make both Trump and Boris even more ridiculous.” A new version of Spitting Image will be broadcast on streaming channel Britbox, with the familiar puppets again made by Roger Law. The first instalment in the Eighties on ITV ran to 18 series and made famous the puppets of Margaret Thatcher, John Major and Norman Tebbitt. This time it’s a whole new suite of celebs and politicians, including ones for Mr & Mrs Covid. Comedian Matt Forde said: “Everyone gets a good slap. In that respect, it’s a plague on every house. “I’ve been impersonating Boris and Trump for years, and on the last two or three tours I’ve done they’ve been such a big part of it.” Forde said the show doesn’t pull any punchlines. “All the things that were present in the Spitting Image original live on. There’s the real harsh stuff, the grotesque caricatures, the slapstick and the silliness. “We hit left, right and centre, and some characters deservedly get hit over the head with a plank of wood.” It’s arrival on TV is timely, he said. “If anything it’s well overdue. We could have done with Spitting image five years ago. We’ve got some catching up to do.” Asked if he uses a picture of the politicians to inspire him, he said: “I have him in my mind’s eye — but no picture on the wall! You try to inhabit the caricature of it a bit. So even though I’m sat here in my spare room on an audio feed to the studio, I still move like Trump and pull the face, and doing the hands and things.” He added: “It’s just so much fun doing them because Trump and Boris both sound stupid. They’ve got ludicrous voices and speaking style. And it’s not beyond the realms that they would say stupid things.” He will ignore any negative views on Twitter. He said: “I won’t worry about it all. You can’t. I’m so battle-hardened having been on social media for the past 10 years. Whenever you’ve created something, you can’t create with a fear of what anonymous accounts on Twitter may or may not say about it. You have to be philosophical about it.” During the first series, celebrities said they were flattered to be imitated on the show. “They should shudder, not be flattered. People say they’re flattered but that’s what I think they think they have to say. They don’t want to look like a bad sport. The reality is that many people will shudder at how they’re perceived.” Spitting Image is now available on Britbox. The satirical show hit the headlines this week after Greta Thunberg was unveiled in a preview for the upcoming season, due to be released on October 3. Some viewers blasted creators for their choice to create a puppet of the 17-year-old climate change activist, who has autism. But Reemah Sakaan, an ITV spokesperson, fired back and stated that the depiction had “nothing to do with her as an individual”, in an interview with the Broadcasting Press Guild. During previous runs of the hit show, the creators drew similar criticism for their depiction of a range of world leaders, politicians, celebrities and the Royal Family. But in a candid confession, one of the show’s creator’s admitted that one character portrayal was unfair and “rather hurtful”. Peter Fluck was the caricaturist who devised ‘Spitting Image’ with Roger Law, which was initially rejected by TV producers but eventually developed and first broadcast in 1984. While many feared being featured on the programme – best known for its portrayal of former Prime Minister John Major in grey to suggest he was dull – there was one person who longed for an appearance. He claimed that Lord Jeffrey Archer lobbied producers and “used to send photographs and voice tapes” alongside letters to ask “when his puppet would be ready”. Mr Fluck also revealed that he felt guilty about his portrayal of a notable Fleet Street journalist and now ‘Loose Women’ panelist. He told The Telegraph in 2008: “I think Janet Street-Porter was the only puppet which went a little too far and it didn’t work. “I think she looked rather like an onion. I should imagine it was rather hurtful but the point was, it wasn’t funny.” Despite the harsh scrutiny of leaders, several defended their portrayal on the show including Lord Roy Hattersley, who he claimed they “mercilessly attacked”. “People were losing their jobs, mines were being closed and Christ knows what was going on – people wanted a programme that wasn’t afraid to tackle those issues.” In a warning to future satire shows – including ‘Headcases’, an animated series that was dubbed the “son of Spitting Image” – Mr Fluck expressed the absolute need for political scrutiny. He said: “I think the danger today is that the focus is going to gear too much towards the celebrities. “We live in a celebrity-obsessed age but if you have a go at that, you just don’t put them on the screen. “That is playing the game. You have to get behind the façade of the celebrity culture.” ‘Spitting Image’ will be released on streaming service BritBox on October 3. She continued to higher the price bracket, adding: “Rhapsody Angel, perhaps £10-12,000… Captain Scarlett, well he’s just an icon. “I’d say perhaps at auction, value £20-25,000 and Lady P, there are some prices I can quote to you, she has appeared. “The highest price she has realised is £38,000, my feeling is she might get a little bit more,” with the guest replying: “Good heavens!” Hillary concluded: “So the whole collection here, we’re talking about £80,000 in total, maybe more, it’s wonderful!” Antiques Roadshow continues next Sunday at 8:15pm on BBC One.

For our third and final interview from our visit to the set of The Happytime Murders, I bring you a discussion with producer/co-writer and Melissa McCarthy’s close collaborator Ben Falcone. In a roundtable interview, Falcone talked about how good the screenplay was on first read, the strange world-building of the movie, the difficulties in making an R-rated puppet comedy, making raunchy comedy that isn’t mean-spirited, how inactive puppets look like they’ve died, and how a puppet set is different from a regular set.
Do you do any puppets in this movie? What’s your role beyond producer?
That’s it. I’m just back there trying to pitch jokes, but mostly yeah. Thank you so much. But yeah, no, that’s, that’s all I, that’s all I’m doing here.
What made you and Melissa want to this?
You know, Melissa read the script and she read it really quickly and said she thought it was great. Which, you know, there are, there are good scripts out there… This one’s really great, not all that common. So, um, I read it and I also thought it was really great. And so basically it just comes. I read it, I mean, I’m sure I’m exaggerating, but I feel like I read it in 30 minutes. It was just a really clean and really funny and I thought it had a good point, some good points to make. So I was into it from the, from the start.
Could you give us a synopsis of the movie kind of where we start without too far into it?
Sure. Like 25 minutes later, I’m like, and in summation! It’s a movie about, it’s a world in which, you know, puppets and humans lived together and puppets are sort of the outcasts of society a little bit. There’s a puppet cop named Phil played by Bill Barretta who’s amazing and a human cop, a detective Edwards played by Melissa and they’ve had a falling out and they have to re-team up to solve a series of murders. So that’s basically what it is with the, you know, the sort of puppet human societal element in the background.
As the murders are happening? Apparently there was a show that happened in the 1980s?
Right. So, The Happytime Murders refers to a show called The Happytime Gang, which is like a famous show from the eighties or early nineties where, yeah, where there are puppets and a human, Jenny, played by Elizabeth Banks, our friend. Then she was the star of the show. And so basically Phil gets wise to the fact that these murders are going down and brings Edwards in even though they have a lot of animosity towards each other and they, you know, it’s, it’s kind of a, it’s a, a cop movie. A buddy movie and it’s, you know, to me it’s about their friendship and about them, like kind of reconnecting through some hard stuff and you know, during some hard times, and it’s super fun because puppets are very funny.
You said the puppets are sort of outcasts. Did something happen to make that?
You know, it’s, I think it’s just the world that’s set up that Brian is setting up really well. Brian Henson and the director and it’s, it’s just like, that’s how the world is. There’s just a, there’s puppets, you know? So, when you see a walks sign, there’s a human one and then there’s a puppet one at their level because generally they’re a little bit smaller. You know, the way that he’s got it set up is that puppets are sort of ostracized and they’re a little bit less than and they’re not taken care of entirely by the law. And so, it’s a really interesting kind of world that he’s just setting up and he’s just saying this is how it is.
Is there a message in there?
Well, I mean, I think you could definitely find some messages in there of like, you know, trying to treat everybody with equality and you know, a better, a better country for all of us for sure. Yeah.
I always loved when Henson would do these more adult things, but it seems like it’s harder and harder to do puppet stuff that is adult. How hard is it to get a production like this off the ground?
Well, they’ve had it going for, I mean, I’ll let Brian speak to it, for many reasons. First of which, he’s smarter than me, but he’s, I think had the script for six years and Adam Fogelson from STX has loved it forever. And when you’ve got the head of a studio and Brian Henson and it still takes a long time, it must mean that it’s pretty tricky to get it going. But here we are. They were crazy enough to let us try it. So, it seems really funny and Brian’s making a great movie.

When The Happytime Murders, a comedy about foul-mouthed and sex-crazed puppets who look an awful lot like the ones created by Jim Henson, used the tagline “All Sesame. No Street.” in its marketing campaign, the creators of Sesame Street weren’t thrilled. They planned to sue the film for unauthorized use of the Sesame Street brand, and now distributor STX Entertainment has filed a response – through a puppet lawyer named Fred, Esq.
Just a few days ago, the Sesame Workshop (who own and operate Sesame Street) filed a suit against the upcoming movie The Happytime Murders, an R-rated movie produced by The Jim Henson Company that recently debuted a trailer that ends with an ejaculating puppet. The Sesame Street rights holders argue that imagery like that (“explicit, profane, drug-using, misogynistic, violent, copulating, and even ejaculating puppets”) will cause irrevocable damage to their brand, which has spent nearly 50 years building up a public trust and establishing itself as a destination for family-friendly children’s programming.

But Happytime Murders distributor STX Entertainment doesn’t seem too scared of the lawsuit. They sent a cheeky response through The Huffington Post via a puppet lawyer named Fred Esq., and even included a picture of their newfound legal counsel.
“STX loved the idea of working closely with Brian Henson and the Jim Henson Company to tell the untold story of the active lives of Henson puppets when they’re not performing in front of children. ‘Happytime Murders’ is the happy result of that collaboration and we’re incredibly pleased with the early reaction to the film and how well the trailer has been received by its intended audience. While we’re disappointed that Sesame Street does not share in the fun, we are confident in our legal position. We look forward to introducing adult moviegoers to our adorably unapologetic characters this summer.” – Fred, Esq., lawyer for STX Entertainment
At first I found it strange that Brian Henson – director of this film, son of Jim Henson, and chairman of the Jim Henson Company – was under fire from inside his own organization. But that’s where I was wrong: Sesame Street actually doesn’t have that much to do with The Jim Henson Company. Henson created the Muppets that appear on Sesame Street, but the rights to the series are controlled by Sesame Workshop, which is a separate company and a non-profit organization that produces the show.
It seems like it’d be easy enough to come up with a different tagline that doesn’t reference Sesame Street, but this response makes it seem like STX is not going to back down here. We’ll keep our eyes on this and see if it escalates further and a puppet judge has to get involved.
The Happytime Murders is slated to hit theaters on August 17, 2018.

Sesame Workshop, the parent company behind the long-running show Sesame Street, argued in the complaint filed in New York on Thursday that the STX Productions’ upcoming comedy starring Melissa McCarthy has “diluted and defiled” the pre-school children’s program by exploiting its mark and brand in the movie trailer.
The red band trailer released earlier in May features an explicit scene of two puppets having sex that involves (what appears to be) ejaculation, McCarthy’s character snorting ecstasy surrounded by gangster-like puppets, and a whole lot of bad-mouthing.
The trailer, which is by no means kids-friendly, makes a reference to the renowned children’s show with the tagline: “No Sesame. Only Street.”
Sesame Workshop argued that STX deliberately dropped its name in the trailer “intent on seeding confusion in the mind of the public” since both the original Sesame Street’s Muppets and “The Happytime Murders” are distinctly different works made by the same company, The Jim Henson Company. The son of late Jim Henson, Brian, is the director of the new movie.
While the situation seems to be no laughing matter to Sesame Workshop, which lamented that “the threat of irreparable injury” posed to Sesame’s brand “cannot be overstated,” the STX has only sniffed at the allegations so far, issuing a response under the name of one of the comedy’s puppet characters, Fred.

“We’re incredibly pleased with the early reaction to the film and how well the trailer has been received by its intended audience. While we’re disappointed that Sesame Street does not share in the fun, we are confident in our legal position,” the statement reads, adding that the STX “loved the idea” of joining forces with Brian Henson and the Jim Henson Company “to tell the untold story of the active lives of Henson puppets” away from children’s eyes.
The movie is set to premiere in the US on August 17. However, it may not go that smoothly, as the NYC judge has set the case hearing for May 30.

In this edition of sequel bits:
There’s a new Puppet Master movie on the way, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Produced by Cinestate, the entertainment company that recently acquired and revived Fangoria, Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich has been picked up by RLJE films for an August 2018 release. The film revives the horror franchise about a group of killer puppets. The story focuses on Edgar (Thomas Lennon), who returns to his childhood home following a divorce “to regroup his life. When Edgar finds a nefarious looking puppet in his deceased brother’s room, he decides to sell the doll for some quick cash at a small-town convention celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the infamous Toulon Murders. Girl-next-door Ashley (Jenny Pellicer) and his comic book shop boss, Markowitz (Nelson Franklin), join Edgar for the doomed road trip. All hell breaks loose when a strange force animates the puppets at the convention, setting them on a bloody killing spree that’s motivated by an evil as old as time.” Oh, and Udo Kier is in the film as well. Give this to me now, please.
Men In Black is being rebooted with very attractive people Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in the leads. The film, set to hit theaters June 14, 2019, will reunite Hemsworth and Thompson for the first time since Thor: Ragnarok, and will apparently feature a much more global story, rather than the first Men In Black, which was set primarily in New York City. Speaking with Variety, Chris Hemsworth offered an update on the project, saying that everyone involved is trying to make the new Men In Black seem “unique and different” while also making “something pretty epic and fun”:
“We’re developing the script now. We’re basically trying to put a lot of humor in to it like the previous ones. These are obviously some big big shoes to fill, so we’re working our butts off on it to make something pretty epic and fun. They’re trying to change up the locations, make it feel unique and different to the last ones as well. So I think you might even see some different countries, maybe. Some different cities than you’ve seen in the previous Men In Black movies.”
Andy Muschietti is gearing up to start filming It: Chapter 2. Jessica Chastain has officially joined the cast, and James McAvoy and Bill Hader are in talks to star in the highly-anticipated horror sequel which will continue to adapt Stephen King’s massive novel. Anyone who has read the book knows the basic story of the sequel: the Losers’ Club is all grown up, and they have to return home to Derry, Maine to battle the evil Pennywise the Clown (Bill Skarsgard) once again. That said, there are bound to be differences between book and film with the sequel, just as there were with 2017’s It, so we don’t know entirely what to expect. One thing we can expect, though – at least according to Muschietti – is something even scarier than the first film. During a presentation at CinemaCon, Muschietti teased his horror sequel as being “scarier and more intense” than the first film, and then advised the crowd “bring your adult diapers.” King of gross, Andy. Kind of gross. It: Chapter 2 opens September 6, 2019.
Remember Doom, the movie adaptation of the popular video game about space marines fighting demons from hell? It starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and some really bad CGI. Well, they’re making a new Doom movie! And it’s going direct to VOD. Variety reported the news of the new Doom film, and added the news that the film would be headed to VOD. Dread Central reports that Autonomous FX, who worked on films like Sinister, I Spit On Your Grave, Stan Against Evil, and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, will be handling creature design.
I don’t know about you, but I’m more than ready for the Jason Statham vs. Giant Shark movie The Meg. The film is based on the book Meg, by Steve Alten, and as it turns out, Alten also wrote a sequel – a book called The Trench. So does this mean we might get more than one Meg film? Maybe, if it makes money! At least, that’s what star Jason Statham says. Speaking with EW, Statham offered a refreshingly honest answer about Meg franchise potential. “I think it’s like anything in this day and age — if it makes money, there’s obviously an appetite to make more money,” the actor said. “And if it doesn’t do well, they’ll soon sweep it under the carpet. But that’s the way Hollywood works. Everyone tries to make a good film, and it lies in the hands of the audience. People are the ultimate decider; the audience is the decider of whether anything gets to be a sequel or no.” So there you have it: if you want more Meg films, go see The Meg when it hits theaters August 10, 2018.
In the video above, you can watch Chris Pratt be his charming self as he interviews his Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom co-stars Daniella Pineda and Justice Smith. Everyone talks about their memories of seeing the first Jurassic Park, and about working on the new Jurassic film. I’ll be honest: there’s not a lot here, and it’s mostly a video that exists to show how friendly these actors are with each other. Which is fine. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opens June 22, 2018.
Oh, thank god. They made a Hotel Transylvania 3. The franchise where Adam Sandler plays Dracula just keeps on keeping on, and here’s a new sneak peek that looks at the film. In the sequel, Dracula and his “monster family as they embark on a vacation on a luxury monster cruise ship so Drac can take a summer vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. It’s smooth sailing for Drac’s Pack as the monsters indulge in all of the shipboard fun the cruise has to offer, from monster volleyball to exotic excursions, and catching up on their moon tans. But the dream vacation turns into a nightmare when Mavis realizes Drac has fallen for the mysterious captain of the ship, Ericka, who hides a dangerous secret that could destroy all of monsterkind.”
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is almost ready to sing and dance its way into theaters. Ahead of the impending summer release, here’s a new very crowded poster, featuring the entire cast of the musical sequel. Feel free to tag yourself – I’m Andy Garcia’s weird smiling face. The film will serve as both a prequel and a sequel, sort of like The Godfather Part II, but with more Abba songs. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again opens July 20, 2018.
Professional ass-kicker Scott Adkins has joined the cast of Ip Man 4. Adkins confirmed the news himself on Instagram (and Twitter). The Ip Man series tells the story of Ip Man, a “Chinese martial artist, and a master teacher of Wing Chun. He had several students who later became martial arts masters in their own right. His most famous student was Bruce Lee.” Donnie Yen plays Ip Man, and the combination of Scott Adkins and Donnie Yen in one movie might be too cool for the world to handle.

On Thursday night in Washington, DC, net neutrality advocates gathered outside the annual Federal Communications Commission Chairman’s Dinner to protest Chairman Ajit Pai’s impending rollback of net neutrality rules.
Inside the dinner (also known as the “telecom prom”) at the Washington Hilton, Pai entertained the audience with jokes about him being a puppet installed by Verizon to lead the FCC.
Pai was a Verizon associate general counsel from 2001 to 2003, and next week he will lead an FCC vote to eliminate net neutrality rules—just as Verizon and other ISPs have asked him to.
]]>Donald Trump is a puppet. No, not on the Kremlin payroll. He’s been immortalized in all his rubbery glory by the artist behind ‘Spitting Image,’ the hit British comedy show gunning for a momentous return, this time on US television.
The American spin-off of the British show will return for US audiences, although parts will be filmed in the UK, co-creator Roger Law has revealed. US network NBC approached the artist, Law said, and production company Avalon has begun talks about the show’s reboot.
President Trump, Law said, is a major inspiration for firing up the show once again.
“Quite what you do I’m not sure because he satirizes his f****** self… They seem to be quite serious, we’ve had a puppet made,” he said.
“I am a reformed old gentleman but I get very angry about things. It’s puppets, not people, so you can get away with murder. You could have a pussy-grabbing sketch for Christ’s sake.”
Those behind the show are hoping Trump may become a fan and Tweet about it. Law said: “That’ll get a few more viewers… He spends six hours a day watching television so of course he’ll watch it.”
The presidential puppet has already been created and will go on display at Norwich’s Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts as part of a retrospective of the artist’s work.
Spitting Image ran for 13 years in the 1980s and 90s. Law and Peter Fluck created the parody-packed show mocking figures such as Margaret Thatcher and Arthur Scargill.
The Norwich exhibition ‘Roger Law: From Satire to Ceramics’ will include puppets, ceramics and other work by Law. The artist said having the exhibit is like having “all these images you’ve done in the past come back to haunt you.”
It will run from November 18 until April 3, 2018, at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in the University of East Anglia, Norwich.

Mayweather bowed out a boxing legend last month after beating UFC star Conor McGregor in their cross-sport showdown in Las Vegas.
Mayweather made it 50 victories without defeat before confirming his retirement at the age of 40.
And now ‘Money’ has given fans an amusing insight into his life, from admitting he is dating SEVEN women to how much money he has in his account.
Mayweather was grilled by Diego from the YouTube channel Awkward Puppets for a tongue-in-cheek interview outsite his stripclub in Vegas.
“The last fight that I fought, that was the money fight,” Floyd Mayweather said.
“For real, because the next fight, they’re going to try and get me to fight an alien on another planet!”
Diego then pressed Mayweather on how much money he had in his bank account, to which the American replied: “Which account? Which bank?
“$ 200million, $ 300m, yeah. In different accounts.”
And when asked how many girlfriends he has, Mayweather provided a bold response.
“How many women I have? Probably about seven deep. Lucky seven.
“We go out to eat, some of us travel together. Having one is too close to having none.”
Mayweather then told puppet to get divorced, explained how many cars he has and answered some quick-fire questions in the hilarious interview.
