Apple pulled out of the Russian market a week after Russia invaded Ukraine — but people in Russia will still be able to buy the new iPhone 14 through parallel imports, said a Kremlin official.
"Why not? If consumers want to purchase these phones, yes. There will be such an opportunity," trade and industry minister Denis Manturov said on September 8, as reported by RIA Novosti, a state-owned media outlet. Manturov was responding to a question about whether the new iPhone would be imported into Russia under a parallel imports program.
Russia legalized parallel imports in May, months after companies pulled out of Russia en masse over the invasion of Ukraine. The system allows retailers to ship products into the country without permission from the trademark owner. By August, such gray market sales reached nearly $ 6.5 billion, Manturov said on August 15, as reported by Interfax.
Even though Apple halted sales of its products in Russia in March, some retailers in the country are still selling down remaining stock, per Reuters. Some have also managed to get their hands on newer models through the parallel imports program.
On Thursday, Russian mobile network MTS started taking preorders for the newly launched iPhone 14 on its website. Prices start from 84,990 rubles ($ 1,382.) The telco said it could take up to 120 days to deliver the device.
Apple announced the iPhone 14 on September 7. The phone comes with a free, two-year subscription to a satellite service that lets users make emergency calls even when they don't have internet or cell service. Among the phone's other new features are an always-on screen and a force sensor that can detect if the user has been in a car crash. Preorders start on September 9 and are available as of September 16.
Apple did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment that was sent outside regular business hours.

The European Central Bank on Thursday raised interest rates by 75 basis points as the eurozone battles to keep spiraling inflation in check.
The central bank announced that its base rate would increase from 0% to 0.75% in a press release, saying the move comes as a step "to dampen demand and guard against the risk of a persistent upward shift in inflation expectations."
The hike — the largest in ECB history — is the second in as many meetings for the central bank, which in July increased rates for the first time since 2019, moving its base rate from minus 0.5% to 0%, a first increase under its president, Christine Lagarde.
The euro was trading marginally higher after the ECB decision at $ 1.0020. On Monday, the single currency fell below $ 0.99 for the first time in two decades after Russia halted flows of natural gas to Europe.
Raising rates for a second time in three months comes against a backdrop of economic peril for Europe as it fights to combat the soaring cost of living, triggered largely by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which has pushed up both food and energy prices in recent months.
Inflation in the Eurozone reached 9.1% in August, up from 8.9% in July, its highest level since the creation of the single currency in 1999.
Central banks across the globe are raising rates to combat inflation, with the Federal Reserve in the US having hiked three times already in 2022, and the Bank of England bumping rates six times since December to reach 1.75%.
An ECB rate hike had been widely expected by analysts, with only the scale of the increase in question. Opinions had differed on whether the central bank would raise by 50 basis points, as it did in July, or by the larger 75 basis points. Further hikes are expected in coming months.

A TikTok influencer and former Miss Canada semi-finalist died after accidentally deploying her parachute too late during her first solo skydive.
Tanya Pardazi's TikTok account mostly focused on giving her nearly 100,000 fans views on philosophy, science, and her daily life.
The 21-year-old was taking a skydiving course at Skydive Toronto in Ontario when she failed to open her parachute early enough during her first solo jump in late August, according to a statement from the company.
"The skydiver released a quickly rotating main parachute at a low altitude without the time / altitude required for the reserve parachute to inflate," the statement read.
"The jumper was a welcomed recent addition to the skydiving community and will be missed among the student's new friends and fellow jumpers of Skydive Toronto Inc."
Followers have flooded Pardazi's TikTok comments with condolences following her death.
"I literally cannot believe she's gone. I've never met her, but she's been a huge inspiration for me. Rest in peace," one commenter wrote on Pardazi's last TikTok post.
She was a philosophy student at the University of Toronto and competed in the Miss Canada beauty pageant in 2017.
Skydive Toronto said it is cooperating with local police, and that the company "has been profoundly affected by this accident as they have refined their student training program for over 50 years," according to the report from Yahoo News.

Relative newcomer Fatima Namazi (Medalion Rahimi) also seems to be getting a lot of play in the next outing, as one image sees the special agent checking out what could be a crime scene.
Sadly, NCIS’s mainline series, and its New Orleans offshoot, will also be taking a break this week.
NCIS: NOLA will air the second half of its two-part episode, Leda and the Swan, on Valentine’s Day, along with NCIS: LA.
Thankfully, the flagship series will bring Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and the team back a little earlier, with a new episode for season 18 coming to CBS on Tuesday, February 9.

Food Network has pulled all content related to Season 20 of Worst Cooks in America, following the arrest of winner Ariel Robinson for a child’s death.
Robinson, 29, along with husband Jerry Robinson, 34, face counts of homicide by child abuse for the death of their adopted three-year-old daughter, reports TV news station WHNS. The child, identified as Victoria Smith, was found unresponsive on Jan. 14 at the couple’s home in Simpsonville, S.C., having died as a result of blunt force injuries, according to a medical examination.
Since the arrest was made, Season 20’s episodes and all clips related to it have disappeared from the Food Network’s Discovery+, Hulu and YouTube pages. The network has yet to comment on the situation.
Robinson won $ 25,000 in the last edition of Worst Cooks in America, which follows contestants with admittedly bad cooking skills as they compete for the grand prize. The cast members endure a cooking boot camp under celebrity chef supervision, all while trying to serve up the best of the worst to avoid elimination.
Hosted by chefs Anne Burrell and Alex Guarnaschelli, Season 20 originally aired in the summer of 2020. Robinson was declared the winner during its Aug. 2 finale. Season 21, featuring Burrell and guest mentor Carla Hall, premiered on the Food Network Jan. 3, 2021.

The Golden Girls is the latest sitcom to have an episode pulled from a streaming service due to a scene depicting blackface.
Hulu has pulled “Mixed Feelings” (Season 3, Episode 23), which sees Dorothy’s son Michael planning to marry an older Black woman named Lorraine. Bea Arthur’s character worries about the nuptials due to the age difference, while Lorraine’s family disapproves of their daughter marrying a white man, and attempts are made on both sides to call the whole thing off. Lorraine’s family arrives just as Rose (Betty White) and Blanche (Rue McClanahan) are trying a new mud facial treatment, and as the two greet their new guests, Rose states, “This is mud on our faces, we’re not really Black.”
The episode’s removal is the latest in a string of shows that have seen episodes taken down or significantly edited due to blackface scenes or jokes. Earlier this week, three episodes of Scrubs were removed from Hulu for their depictions of blackface, following the removal of four episodes of 30 Rock for scenes featuring blackface. The British sketch show Little Britain was also removed from Netflix and other streaming platforms earlier this month for its pervasive use of blackface.
Additionally, The Office removed a scene featuring a character in blackface from a Season 9 episode, but left the rest of the episode intact. An entire episode of Community has thus far been pulled from at least Netflix’s library. In the Season 2 episode, Chang (Ken Jeong) is seen in blackface while showing up to a Dungeons & Dragons game, as he proceeds to explain that he was cosplaying as “a dark elf.”

The following post contains spoilers for The Blacklist‘s Season 7 finale. Proceed with caution!
The Blacklist fans saw a completely different side of Elizabeth Keen on Friday — and we’re not just talking about her decision to side with Katarina Rostova and embrace her inner darkness.
Rather, we’re referencing Liz’s new look as a graphic novel character, which resulted from the show’s decision to animate the parts of its finale that couldn’t be filmed when production shut down. Since the coronavirus pandemic cut The Blacklist‘s seventh season short — turning Episode 19 (out of 22) into the season finale — Friday’s episode was not only a makeshift conclusion, but an hour of television that jumped back and forth between live-action scenes and animated sequences.
During the episode, Liz was forced to officially pick a side between Reddington and Katarina Rostova, after the task force’s latest case put her smack-dab in the middle of those two. In a move that initially seemed to take Liz herself by surprise, she chose Katarina; by the end of the hour, though, she had completely accepted this new alliance, even revealing to her comatose grandfather (the late Brian Dennehy, in his final appearance) that “anyone who is in [Katarina’s] way is in my way. That includes you, and that includes Reddington.”
Meanwhile, Red’s ongoing health issues — cerebral edema, Red’s doctor told Liz — took a turn for the worse, prompting him to collapse mid-conversation. His doc prescribed new meds for the hand tremors, but he also urged Red to be more honest with Liz about his medical concerns.
Below, series creator Jon Bokenkamp shares how the half-animated finale came to be, while teasing how that final scene sets up the previously announced eighth season.
TVLINE | How did you land on graphic novel-style animation for this episode? Was that driven by the show’s existing comics, or did it seem easiest from a technical perspective as opposed to other animation styles?
We’ve always talked about The Blacklist being a bit of a comic book. We’ve got a criminal anti-hero at the center of the show. A rogues’ gallery of criminals each week. The show has a slightly alternative graphic novel feel to it that’s baked into what we do week to week. So when we started kicking around ideas for how to complete the season, we looked back at the comic books written by Nicole Phillips, and an animated approach felt very organic.
TVLINE | Did you have to make any tweaks to the script in order to accommodate the animated scenes? Less dialogue, longer pauses, anything like that?
We made some slight adjustments to the script, mostly trying to expand concepts that we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to execute on our tight production schedule. For example, there’s a scene with three characters in the back of a car, racing through the city. In live action, that would have been shot with green screen and we’d be lucky if we ever popped outside of the car. However, with animation — and working with [visual effects company] Proof — we realized we had an opportunity to open that scene up. We jump outside the car to see the vehicle careening through the streets, cars whizzing past, horns blaring. That’s the kind of thing we would never have been able to do where we shoot in New York City.
Another example, we had a scene between Red and Liz where he gives her the case of the week. Originally, this was to be filmed on our stages in Red’s secret apartment. But when we realized we were animating things — that we hadn’t shot that scene yet — we thought, “Why not move this scene to the National Mall in Washington, D.C.? Let’s see the Capitol Building in the background. Big, sweeping, wide shots.” Most of the changes we made to the script were adjustments to open up the visual palette of the show and make things bigger and more fun.
TVLINE | As you were putting this finale together remotely, did you hit any big production roadblocks? Anything that you simply couldn’t make work or had to cut because you were working from home?
We really didn’t. The cast all recorded their lines remotely on microphones that were sent to them wherever they were quarantining. They recorded their dialogue into their phones, through an app, and uploaded those lines to our post team in L.A. We had animators working in London and Atlanta. Editors, the sound team, and our composer were in Los Angeles. The whole thing was a very virtual experience, but I was really impressed at how quickly and seamlessly the team pulled together to get their specific job done. The truth is, I think we all welcomed the distraction from what’s going on in the real world.
This episode really highlights what an incredible family we’ve built over seven years. To make an episode of television like this, in five weeks, with everyone working from home — from our writers and editors, to our composer, to the sound team and visual effects crew and animators we only just met — we really couldn’t ask for a better team. We see a few of these folks in the end of the episode, and there are many more behind the scenes, but they really are the best in the business, and one hell of an incredible family.
TVLINE | I’m really intrigued by Liz’s decision to fully side with Katarina at the end of this episode, especially how easily she embraces a darker side of herself. Can you shed some light on why Liz went in that direction? Is she really as anti-Red as she seems to be in that final scene, or is she perhaps trying to convince herself that she is?
Well, keep in mind, Liz has been on this journey for seven years and gotten no real answers from Red. I think she’s reached a tipping point. And she saw Katarina sacrifice herself not once, but twice in this episode. First, Katarina was willing to race Reddington to his secret medical facility, and she saved his life when she could have captured him. Plus, she allowed the wire transfer to go through, essentially giving Reddington information about her whereabouts. She only did this to protect Liz, again sacrificing herself for her daughter.
And Katarina has tangible truths about Reddington that she’s unearthed. She mentioned the Sykorski Archive. This is a big lead — one that offers the first real glimpse into who Reddington is and why he entered Liz’s life. Believe me, the Sykorski Archive will come back into play next season. I guess all that is a way of saying that I think Liz is justified in crossing this Rubicon. She’s always feared making this leap, but finally, after seven years, she knows that embracing this darker side of herself is inevitable.
TVLINE | It feels like Liz’s decision to support Katarina instead of Red would alter the fabric of the show quite a bit. Can you speak to how the show might change next year, given this big shift for her?
I don’t want to spoil anything. I think it’s best to simply acknowledge that, yes, things are going to change in a really compelling way.
TVLINE | What can you say about where Red’s health issues are going? Should we expect those to loom large in Season 8, as well?
We’ve hinted at Red’s health issues for a few seasons now. I suppose it’s fair to say that whatever is wrong with him — it’s something that Red is avoiding or denying, yet something serious enough that people in Red’s life, like Dembe, are legitimately concerned about it. Red’s not a weak guy by any means, but these health issues aren’t going to go away, and he won’t be able to continue to deny them. It’s absolutely something we plan to explore next season.

Just as the coronavirus outbreak has challenged people’s jobs, relationships and mental well-being in real life, so did it, too, during All Rise‘s virtually shot, pandemic-themed season finale on Monday.
In the episode, Lola has her hands full, trying to convince her at-risk mother to stay home instead of delivering care packages. Meanwhile, her BFF Mark is going stir-crazy at home and exercising up a storm. He also finds another way to release some pent-up energy via virtual sexy times with girlfriend Amy! Elsewhere, Sherri is managing by labeling spices, Judge Benner is failing at cooking, and with transcription work dried up, Sara is delivering Instacart orders.
But even though much of life in Los Angeles has come to a standstill, arrests haven’t stopped, and the backlog of trials is piling up. Given the “appalling” conditions in jail, Lola suggests to her fellow judges that they should hold an online trial. Judge Laski protests that fundamental rights would have to be waived, but Judge Campbell notes that there’s not much point in trying the accused if they’re no longer alive. Dark times, indeed.
Lola’s chosen test case is a dispute between two brothers, with Emily and Mark on opposing sides. Even though Lola and Mark are close friends, Benner makes an exception and allows it since they’re running short on judges and lawyers. During a stairwell chat in their respective homes, Lola and Mark set some ground rules, but he still gives her enough lip in virtual court to raise eyebrows. The trial also hits some logistical snags, after which the accused demands a real trial. Benner reminds Lola that a fair trial this way might be the only way forward, so she needs to figure it out. Then a conversation with her mother inspires Lola, who appeals to the brothers’ history and asks them to see past the limitations of their screens.
“All year, I’ve been hearing about the Lolacoaster,” Mark tells Lola, after a plea deal is reached. “I get it now. There’s something magic about you in that chair.”
“I hope you enjoyed it, because you are never going to see it again!” Lola responds. “I cannot have you in my courtroom, Mark… because I need you as my friend.”
Meanwhile, Luke is tired of sitting around and wants to go to county jail to help with the large number of releases. A worried Emily convinces him to find the soon-to-be-released inmates housing instead. The episode ends with a virtual date night between Luke and Emily — who’s staying with her brother, his wife and his kids — while Amy tells Mark that she’s in for moving in and isolating together. Then an all-cast (and crew) dance party breaks out.

The figure keeps growing as rescue teams attempt to clear all the rubble left by the collapsed structure in the city of Magnitogorsk. Overall, 21 people have been confirmed dead, the Emergencies Ministry said on Wednesday. A three-year-old girl is among the victims, while 20 residents remain missing.
The explosion occurred around 6:00am local time on Monday. It partially destroyed the multi-apartment building, completely collapsing one of its sections. Authorities suspect that a gas leak was the cause of the blast.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, locals began bringing flowers and toys to makeshift memorials set up near the site, and lighting candles there. Different stories also began emerging. One resident, Yevgeny Yurchenko, said he woke up earlier than usual and left just 15 minutes before the explosion, likely escaping death.
“I left the house and went straight to my garage. Then the blast happened,” Yevgeny told local media. He didn’t immediately realize what had happened but quickly noticed how grayish dust began filling the area.
“I came up and looked at my apartment – it was on the 10th floor – and it was simply gone. And I understood that if I hadn’t left, I would be gone too.”
Multiple rescue teams have been working day and night to locate and extract people trapped in the debris. Heat cannons were set up to help those who might still be stuck under the debris to withstand the cold, as the temperature fell to -20C at night.
The use of heavy equipment was halted due to fears of further collapse. Rescuers are currently clearing the rubble manually, but additional equipment was also deployed to the scene, ready to be used if required.
Six people have been rescued so far, including an 11-month-old boy, Vanya, who was miraculously recovered from the rubble alive.
Vanya’s condition is stable for now but remains very serious, Leonid Roshal, who heads the hospital treating the boy, told Gazeta.ru. He sustained multiple injuries and is struggling with hypothermia.
