10 times the royals broke their own protocol in 2018 https://briefnews.eu/10-times-the-royals-broke-their-own-protocol-in-2018/ https://briefnews.eu/10-times-the-royals-broke-their-own-protocol-in-2018/#respond Tue, 18 Dec 2018 13:07:03 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/10-times-the-royals-broke-their-own-protocol-in-2018/ royals joking Getty/Chris Jackson

  • Royals usually follow a strict protocol that dictates their behavior, from what they eat to how they sit.
  • But, as in 2018, they’ve been known to deviate from the rules.
  • Meghan Markle hugged a fan, for instance, despite royal protocol to keep some distance.

Sometimes, rules are meant to be broken. And when it comes to strict rules of royal protocol, even Queen Elizabeth herself has been known to brush them aside, calling them “rubbish.”

Here are 10 times that members of the royal family broke their own protocol this year.

Royals aren’t supposed to give autographs, but Markle signed a 10-year-old girl’s notebook.

Royals aren’t supposed to sign autographs for security reasons: that way their signatures can’t be forged. That didn’t stop Markle from signing 10-year-old Caitlin Clark’s autograph book with a heart and smiley face.

Clark told HELLO! magazine that Markle misspelled her name and wrote “Hi Kaitlin,” but that she didn’t mind.

“I don’t really care,” she said. “My heart is still racing. I’ve never got a royal autograph before. This is going to make everyone jealous.”

Royals usually stick to more formal greetings, but Markle is a hugger.

Embracing royals is usually off-limits for both security reasons and out of respect for their positions. But Markle goes right in for hugs.

At an event for International Women’s Day, People reports that when 10-year-old Sophia Richards told Prince Harry she wants to be an actress, he brought her over to meet Markle, who hugged her.

“Meghan told me that I can achieve whatever I want to achieve. And Meghan said she would like to see me on TV when I become an actress,” Richards told People. “It was a dream come true. I will never forget this day.”

Princess Eugenie says she “got in trouble” after taking a picture in an off-limits part of Buckingham Palace.

Members of the royal family don’t have their own personal social media accounts. Instead, they share photos through Kensington Palace’s official pages. The exception to that rule is Princess Eugenie, the queen’s granddaughter and ninth in line for the throne, who has Instagram.

During the Trooping the Colour parade in June, Eugenie snapped a photo of her father, Prince Andrew, standing in Buckingham Palace.

“A wonderful and proud day celebrating Her Majesty’s birthday and @hrhthedukeofyork for his first Trooping the Colour as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards. #troopingthecolour,” she captioned the photo.

She told British Vogue that she was later chastised by palace officials for breaking royal protocol by sharing the photo.

It couldn’t have gotten her in too much trouble because it’s still up on her Instagram.

The US is withdrawing from the “optional protocol” in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, John Bolton has confirmed. He said it follows a case brought by Palestine, challenging the US embassy’s move to Jerusalem.

“I am announcing that the president has decided that the United States will withdraw from the optional protocol and dispute resolution to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” Bolton said.

“This is in connection with a case brought by the so-called state of Palestine, naming the United States as the defendant, challenging our move of our embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.”

Kate Middleton broke royal protocol while in New Zealand during official tour https://briefnews.eu/kate-middleton-broke-royal-protocol-while-in-new-zealand-during-official-tour/ https://briefnews.eu/kate-middleton-broke-royal-protocol-while-in-new-zealand-during-official-tour/#respond Fri, 28 Sep 2018 05:38:02 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/kate-middleton-broke-royal-protocol-while-in-new-zealand-during-official-tour/

Kate Middleton, 36, has undertaken a number of royal tours with her husband Prince William, 36.

The pair have travelled to Poland, Canada and India for their biggest trips abroad.

However, during their trip to New Zealand in 2014, with their first child Prince George, now five, Kate Middleton broke royal protocol.

The older generation of royals often dictates that hugs should not be given by the Royal Family.

However, upon meeting a young maori girl, the Duchess of Cambridge couldn’t resist giving her a cuddle.

Five-year-old Matawhio Matahaere-Veint met Kate at the airport after landing at Dunedin before leaning in for the hug.

Royal protocol, although not official rules, warn that a head nod or a curtsy is how the royals should be greeted.

Historian Kate Williams told the BBC that the prohibited hugging of a royal most likely dates back to the Middles Ages when royalty were seen to be divinely appointed and “treated like gods”.

However, many of the younger royals are breaking the mould when it comes to etiquette.

Meghan Markle has repeatedly hugged many people she met, both adults and children.

Prince William and Prince Harry are also not afraid to be tactile with fans that they meet.

The former recently hugged one of the survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire.

He also was caught hugging Chewbacca when on the Star Wars film set.

However, it was their mother who was known for breaking the barriers of formality.

Princess Diana often hugged the people she met while on official work tours.

She famously shook hands with a patient in London suffering from HIV without gloves, something unheard of in the 1980s when it was thought to be transmitted through touch.

Many famous people have also hugged the Queen, most famously Michelle Obama when she was First Lady of America.

Royal protocol is becoming much laxer as the younger generation take over.

For example, Meghan has worn a series of black outfits, something the older royals only do if in mourning.

A Breach of Protocol in the Sex Club https://briefnews.eu/a-breach-of-protocol-in-the-sex-club/ https://briefnews.eu/a-breach-of-protocol-in-the-sex-club/#respond Mon, 06 Aug 2018 09:48:49 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/a-breach-of-protocol-in-the-sex-club/

BDSM Rules of the Road?

EUGENE, SIR: Having taken your advice in the past — now no longer dealing with cuck weirdos; however, still dealing with cuck-adjacent weirdos — I have another question for you. I was at a BDSM club and this woman was “collared” by some “dom.” By dom, in this instance, I mean a middle-aged man with a soft stomach and poor posture. I “play” with her, then take her back into a private room and all of a sudden, I’m persona non grata in a building full of people who like to play tough but are too afraid to fill in the gaps if I’ve overstepped. Most subs I know are pretty good at letting you know their limits. She said nothing. I’m leaning toward going back there, but what do you think I should do? — CD

Dear Compact Disc: You’ve heard this before, and I am sure it’s as true now as when you first heard it: Unless you’ve been hanging around damaged nuclear power sites and things have changed, you’re no mind reader. If you were in a restaurant and taste-tested food off other diners’ plates, I’d guess you wouldn’t be getting very far before someone said something to you. Something. Anything. And here we’re only talking about french fries.

I’d imagine, and this is one of the more useful things about BDSM, or even “the lifestyle,” and that’s that every contingency is discussed by all participating parties prior to partying. Which means there’s no way you’d breached any sort of protocol over the dom’s objections because he said nothing. Consent here is just as important as in the real world, but the measures here are paradoxically much more simple and much more complex, and in the end, it doesn’t sound like you did anything to anyone that someone didn’t want done to them. You suggested something, verbally or not — “Can I have a french fry?” — and were tacitly invited to continue.

If no one wanted to give you a french fry, they, or the club’s management, should have intervened. Neither they nor the club’s management intervened. Now, maybe no one wants to be bugged when they’re just in to enjoy a little fried food, but if everyone is there to taste test from other’s plates, you’d be a damn fool to do otherwise.

Enjoy yourself in the full understanding that the community will let you know when you’ve violated whatever standard the community may or may not hold.

Hurts vs. Not

EUGENE, SIR: When we’re having sex and I am about to orgasm, my girlfriend starts pulling away because, she says, my penis gets larger when I am about to orgasm. I’ve been masturbating since I was 17 and never noticed this though, so I am wanting to know: Is this just something she’s saying to ruin my orgasm … or is it a real thing? — Size-shifter

Dear Plumps When You Cook It: So let me get this straight: The woman who has taken time out of her busy schedule to actually have sex with YOU is stymieing your orgasm like she never wanted to have sex with you in the first place for shadily defined reasons? Bro … I think it’s better to hew to the simplest story, Occam’s razor style, since this may have the highest chance of being correct in this instance. Also, given the unofficial rules of falsehoods, she would seem to gain nothing from telling you that your penis gets bigger before orgasm, outside of a burnishing of your ego.

So, absent motive and motivations to do otherwise, I must assume that she is telling the truth, and while I believe I’m unfamiliar with her sexual response, her response to you being more engorged as you get closer to orgasm and very possibly thrusting harder, seems to be perfectly in line with someone who is telling the truth. Supported by more than just anecdotal stories, and specifically, high school health classes.

And since being forewarned is being forearmed, next time, if you’re lucky enough to have one of those … before you orgasm? Plan accordingly. Your partner, even if it’s not her, will thank you.

Good, Better, Worse

EUGENE, SIR: How much time and energy should I put into helping my husband improve his sexual performance? I mean, can he actually get better? To be more specific, I don’t even need “better”; I really just need “longer.” Yes, more creative would be great too (I am fine with his size), but no one grows up creative. People have to be taught, so can I teach him this? I have tried before and met with some resistance. But he’s been orgasming before me for the last six months and I want to fix this, so suggestions are welcome. — Name withheld by request

Dear Coach: No idea how long you two have been married or even if the marriage is good. The fact that this has just recently started gives me pause, but I’m not a doctor, or a mind-reading doctor. So there is no way to tell but there is a way to guess, and my guess would be since you were OK with the sex up to where you are now, maybe it’s the last six months of him orgasming quickly that puts you off more so than his lack of creativity.

Which is to say he can orgasm as quickly as he wants if he then “creatively” employs his mouth to get you off. His failure to do so, or his lack of creativity, is a problem, but this doesn’t have to be taught. This only has to be requested. So ask him. The premise that one or both partners would leave un-orgasmed is appalling, but even more so is not to demand what you know you need. Now get out there and get him to work.

Oh, and good luck!

Prince Harry broke royal protocol for Meghan Markle after travelling on Caribbean tour https://briefnews.eu/prince-harry-broke-royal-protocol-for-meghan-markle-after-travelling-on-caribbean-tour/ https://briefnews.eu/prince-harry-broke-royal-protocol-for-meghan-markle-after-travelling-on-caribbean-tour/#respond Wed, 01 Aug 2018 19:00:05 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/prince-harry-broke-royal-protocol-for-meghan-markle-after-travelling-on-caribbean-tour/

Prince Harry, 33, recently travelled with his wife Meghan Markle, 36, to Dublin on their first overseas visit as a married couple.

The pair are expected to undertake their first official tour to Australia later this year during the Invictus Games, created by Harry.

Harry and Meghan made a number of appearance before their wedding, including to Brixton, Cardiff and Wales.

In 2016, the prince ended his two-week Caribbean tour and was due to fly back to the UK for a number of public engagements.

Yet he ended up breaking royal protocol by seeing Meghan Markle instead.

Prince Harry was booked to fly back on a British Airways flight to London from Barbados, according to Kensington Palace.

Instead, he travelled to Toronto to see Meghan, which is against royal protocol.

According to the Telegraph, palace policy dictates that “working visits should not be combined with personal travel”.

The rule was brought into force in 2004 after Prince Andrew’s antics came under fire.

The royal was lambasted for combining business trips with personal trips including golfing expeditions.

Royal family members official trips are paid for by the taxpayer while personal trips are paid at their own expense.

At the time, the Royal Household said: “In order to avoid confusion, combining private and public engagements in the same trip is actively discouraged.”

Despite this, Prince Harry would have paid for his own ticket to travel to Canada where Meghan was filming Suits at the time.

Prince Harry and Prince William regularly fly on budget airlines for personal trips.

It isn’t the first time the couple have broken royal protocol together.

The pair regularly hold hands at events such as at the Toronto Invictus Games when they are first spotted together as a couple.

Royal family members often refrain from doing so as they are representing the UK on a work trip, and so displays of affection could be considered inappropriate.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are rarely caught holding hands, although on some tours they have been spotted with their arms around each other.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are also never caught in public being affectionate as they act professionally when on state visits.

Yet while it is an unspoken etiquette advisory, it is not an enforced rule.

At a recent event with the Queen, Harry and Meghan decided against holding hands when at the Your Commonwealth Youth Challenge Reception.

Why Meghan Markle broke royal protocol when she saw Prince Harry ex Chelsy Davy at wedding https://briefnews.eu/why-meghan-markle-broke-royal-protocol-when-she-saw-prince-harry-ex-chelsy-davy-at-wedding/ https://briefnews.eu/why-meghan-markle-broke-royal-protocol-when-she-saw-prince-harry-ex-chelsy-davy-at-wedding/#respond Wed, 23 May 2018 02:46:49 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/why-meghan-markle-broke-royal-protocol-when-she-saw-prince-harry-ex-chelsy-davy-at-wedding/
  • Meghan Markle, 36, is said to have broke royal protocol when she came across Prince Harry’s ex girlfriend Chelsy Davy, 32, on the royal wedding day.
  • The Duchess of Sussex gave Chelsy a hug at the wedding reception, even though “correct” etiquette would be for Chelsy – who does not know Meghan well – to curtsey.
  • Prince Harry, 33, dated Chelsy for seven years from 2004 to 2011 – after they first met in Cape Town on Harry’s gap year, and she is widely thought to have been his first love.

LATEST UPDATE: Tuesday 22 May, 11:07am

Meghan Markle chose to leave the traditional “obey” phrase out of her own royal wedding vows to Prince Harry last Saturday.

In doing so, she followed in the footsteps of Kate Middleton, 36, who did the same at her 2011 wedding to Prince William, 35.

Princess Diana, who died at the age of 36, also omitted the “obey” phrase for her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles, 69.

The official royal wedding photos of newlyweds Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33 have been released in a series of three pictures.

Meghan and Harry pose alongside the rest of the royal family and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, 61.

A body language expert said two of the three pictures display feminist Meghan in a surprisingly “submissive” stance next to Prince Harry.

Body language expert Judi James analysed the official royal wedding photographs exclusively for Express.co.uk.

“I’m surprised to see the feminist bride sitting submissively at her new husband’s feet in two of the shots,” she commented.

Tuesday 22 May, 8:55am

Meghan and Harry will attend their first royal engagement as a married couple later on today.

The married couple – who chose to postpone their honeymoon until later in the summer – will attend Prince Charles’ 70th birthday celebrations at Buckingham Palace.

The event will also be attended by emergency services workers who attended the Manchester Arena bombing one year ago today, to mark the anniversary.

Tuesday 22 May, 8:20am

Meghan, who has been given the title of Her Royal Highness Duchess of Sussex, was not fazed by Chelsy’s link to Harry.

She reportedly gave Prince Harry’s ex girlfriend a “hug” when she saw her at the royal wedding reception. Chelsy wore a navy mini dress which showed off her legs for the wedding ceremony at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

This is said to conflict with royal etiquette, whereby commoners – those without a royal title as Meghan now does – are expected to bow or curtsey to royalty.

“Guests reported the former lawyer went up to the bride and was all smiles as she hugged her tightly,” reported The Mirror.

Royal expert William Hanson said this was not technically “correct” etiquette.

“If you are a good friend of anyone after the ceremony a hug is perfectly acceptable,” Hanson said in an interview with Personal Space.

“Nobody wants to be hugged before and crease the dress.

“But the correct thing to do was she should have curtseyed for HRH (Her Royal Highness).

“You would do a bow or curtsy and greet them more familiar only if you were on those terms.”

However, he said Chelsy’s invitation to the wedding speaks for the “character” of Prince Harry.

“Prince Harry clearly still has a relationship with her, even if it is now a platonic relationship.

“That speaks to the character of anybody if they are able to, after a decent break and slight readjustment, still get on with someone who played a major character in their life.”

Yesterday, Meghan Markle gave a hint about her relationship with Kate Middleton, her new sister-in-law.

Meghan, who was given the title of Duchess of Sussex last Saturday, is now officially a sister-in-law to Kate, Duchess of Cambridge.

But are they friends? While Meghan did not choose Kate to be her maid of honour, opting instead not to have one, it would seem the pair are close.

This was illustrated by Meghan’s decision after her wedding day to gift Kate a gold bracelet – the same style Meghan also gave six of her closest friends.

This gesture, said to be “a token of appreciation”, suggests Kate has entered Meghan’s intimate circle of close friends.

“As a token of her appreciation, Meghan gifted six of her best friends — and new sister-in-law Kate Middleton! — with a solid gold disc bracelet,” reported People magazine.

Can Meghan Markle still be an actress? Meghan Markle, 33, will marry Prince Harry, 33, on 19 of May at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The actress was relatively unknown in the UK before her relationship with the fifth-in-line to the British throne. LA-born Meghan played the role of sexy paralegal Rachel Zane in cable drama Suits.

The stunning actress was also reportedly in the line up to play a Bond girl before news the relationship broke.

The Sun revealed that Meghan was shortlisted to star opposite Daniel Craig in the franchise worth between £1.5 billion and £3.7 billion.

A source said: “Meghan fits the role of a Bond girl perfectly. She’s glamorous and sexy and a good actress.

“The role more recently has gone to actresses deemed to be rising stars, and Meghan certainly was seen as that before her relationship with Harry became public.”

They added: “Her engagement effectively spelt an end to her acting career too so that was the final blow.”

Evidently, industry professionals aren’t banking on Meghan taking up any more acting roles recently, and she has quit her role in Suits.

What does royal protocol have to say about royals having jobs?

Can Meghan Markle still be an actress?

While there are no hard and fast royal rules against Meghan continuing to work in film and television. However, the Royal Family are fiercely private, and press junkets may cause some friction for a new member of Briton’s most important family.

Lots of royals have had jobs however, some even in the entertainment industry.

Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, and the Queen’s third son, worked at Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Theatre Company, working as a production assistant on musicals including Cats.

Prince William has worked as an air ambulance pilot, while Prince Harry was employed by the army.

However, it is generally thought that Meghan will use her new role to advocate for charitable causes.

Meghan Markle royal rule breaker: Actress ignored years of protocol by signing autographs https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-royal-rule-breaker-actress-ignored-years-of-protocol-by-signing-autographs/ https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-royal-rule-breaker-actress-ignored-years-of-protocol-by-signing-autographs/#respond Fri, 19 Jan 2018 13:28:10 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-royal-rule-breaker-actress-ignored-years-of-protocol-by-signing-autographs/

Meghan Markle, 36, broke various royal rules when she arrived at Cardiff Castle in Wales yesterday.

The Suits actress appeared in the city with her royal beau Prince Harry, 33, and dived enthusiastically into greeting members of the public.

While the royals are known for following protocol, sometimes keeping their distance from the public, Meghan took a very different approach.

The actress was seen signing autographs – something the royals never do – as well getting rather more touchy feeling with the public than most of those connected to the royal family do.

The Queen is often happy to shake hands with members of the public, while Kate reportedly carries a clutch bag with both hands to avoid the gesture.

Meghan appeared happy to hold hands with people in the crowds gathered at the castle, as well as allowing one man to kiss her hand.

The actress was captured signing an autograph for a girl in the crowd.

The royals are said to not be allowed to sign autographs, supposedly as part of an anti-fraud policy.

Glamour reported that when Prince Charles is asked for his signature her says: “Sorry, they don’t allow me to do that.”

Royal correspondent Camilla Tominey told Ruth Langsford and Alison Hammond on This Morning today: “Meghan broke all the rules with selfies, high fives and hugs.”

Meghan’s behaviour is very similar to that of Prince Harry’s late mother Princess Diana, who was often praised for way with members of the public, the expert claimed.

She added: “You wouldn’t he seen it back in the 40s and 50s but Princess Diana started these sorts of trends.

“Sometimes I think the public think the royals are stuffier than they are.”

Prince Harry is said to have claimed that taking selfies make him uncomfortable, but Meghan didn’t seem to mind.

Her background as an actress may well have made her more inclined to sign autographs.

Camilla Tominey added: “They aren’t meant to sign autographs but because Meghan is an actress I think she is used to it.

“I’m not sure she signed a signature, I think she just wrote a note to the little girl.”

Did Meghan Markle send a message with her clothes in Cardiff yesterday?

Rob Gronkowski under fire for ‘dirty’ hit that sent a Bills player into concussion protocol https://briefnews.eu/rob-gronkowski-under-fire-for-dirty-hit-that-sent-a-bills-player-into-concussion-protocol/ https://briefnews.eu/rob-gronkowski-under-fire-for-dirty-hit-that-sent-a-bills-player-into-concussion-protocol/#respond Mon, 04 Dec 2017 01:49:50 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/rob-gronkowski-under-fire-for-dirty-hit-that-sent-a-bills-player-into-concussion-protocol/ gronk hitCBS/NFL

  • Rob Gronkowski on Sunday dove onto Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White, hitting White in the back of the head while White was lying on the ground.
  • White was helped off the field and sent into the concussion protocol.
  • Several Bills players and media members called Gronkowski’s hit “dirty” while Bill Belichick said it was “bull—-.”

New England Patriots right end Rob Gronkowski was widely criticized around the NFL world for a late hit on Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White that the Bills called “dirty.”

In the fourth quarter, White intercepted a pass from Tom Brady. While laying face-down on the sideline, Gronkowski came up from behind White and dove onto him, sending his forearm and shoulder into the back of White’s head.

White was helped off the field by an assistant and was placed in the concussion protocol.

Here’s the hit:

After the game, Bills safety Micah Hyde called the hit dirty, saying he thought Gronkowski should have been ejected.

“That’s a dirty play, man,” Hyde said. “That’s not cool. It’s amazing to me that you don’t get ejected for something like that. It’s crazy. He obviously saw him on the ground. It’s like a wrestling move. I don’t know — elbow, shoulder — I don’t know what it was. I saw on the replay it was just a dirty play, man. That’s something the NFL talks about all the time about not wanting.”

Bills head coach Sean McDermott said he was “not happy” about the play, saying such plays have no place in the NFL. Several other Bills players made similar sentiments.

While Patriots coach Bill Belichick after the game said he didn’t see much of the play and it wasn’t something he could control, cameras caught him telling McDermott immediately after the game that Gronkowski’s hit was “bull—-” while apologizing.

Gronkowski also apologized after the game and said that he was frustrated by the officiating throughout the game.

Several others in the NFL world also chastised Gronkowski for the play.

Dean Blandino, a former NFL vice president of officiating, said on Fox that he thinks Gronkowski should have been ejected for the game.

It remains to be seen what Gronkowski’s punishment will be, but his hit on White is almost exactly what the NFL is trying to avoid — hits to the head on defenseless players. If White has a concussion, it may strengthen the case for Gronkowski to be suspended.
