  • The EU's oil embargo could also cause production of the fuel to fall, leading to a shortage in Russia.

Russia has halted natural-gas flows to Europe via a key pipeline amid the war in Ukraine, but the move may end up biting itself, according to Bloomberg, citing an internal document prepared for the Russian government.

While Russia is an energy giant, most of its exports go to European customers. In 2021, Europe snapped up about half of Russia's oil products and three-quarters of its natural gas, according to the US Energy Information Administration.

Thus, a fall in exports to Europe means Russian natural-gas production would have to fall to better meet lower shipment needs. This would, in turn, hit Moscow's plans to boost domestic gas supplies, per Bloomberg, citing the report.

Additionally, a complete halt in natural-gas supplies to Europe could cost the Kremlin as much as 400 billion rubles, or $ 6.6 billion, a year in tax revenues, according to Russia's internal report, per the media outlet. While Russia is trying to diversify its customer base, new markets will not be able to make up lost sales from European customers in the medium term.

As Europe is also set to ban most Russian oil imports from the end of 2022, the demand slump could lead to a deep cut in Russian production, causing a shortage of the fuel domestically, Bloomberg reported, citing the internal report.

Overall, the internal Russian report paints a gloomy picture of the country's economy amid sweeping sanctions over its invasion of Ukraine — which contrasts sharply with more upbeat data from the Kremlin in recent months.

The situation could worsen if the world enters a recession. That's because Russia would've already lost its stable European market, causing it to become a "swing supplier" of energy products — with the country having to adjust and adapt its output to changing market demands, according to the report.

This would mean that a plunge in demand for Russian oil products could have an adverse economic impact, such as pushing up inflation in the country and putting downward pressure on the ruble, the report warned, per Bloomberg.

Although students and educators can get Live for 40 percent off the regular price, it's not often that we see Ableton run sales on its products. This is likely the best deal you'll find on the DAW unless you're a teacher or in school. After all, Ableton typically sticks to the same 25 percent discount on Black Friday.

Hatewatchers had their tweeting thumbs at the ready on Wednesday as NBC lifted the curtain on Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical. But was this updated production of the 2006 Broadway show really the cringefest that many expected? Let’s investigate.

Sure, the sight of Matthew Morrison in the iconic character’s green skin and thicc physique was a little jarring at first. But if you think about it, aren’t most things he does a little jarring? Some of us are old enough to remember the time he inspired an entire group of high school students to master the art of twerking on Glee. And when he got caught having sex with that sheep on Younger. And… wait, did we already mention Glee? Either way, this was perfectly on-brand for Morrison and we won’t hear another word about it.

That said, we can’t deny that this fourth wall-breaking moment during the musical’s first hour made us supremely uncomfortable:

As for the rest of the show, it was perfectly fine. Watching Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story) attempt to tone down his inherent intensity as an older version of The Grinch’s beloved hench-dog was a trip, and Booboo Stewart (Julie and the Phantoms) was endearing as always playing O’Hare’s younger counterpart. (But don’t take our word for it. Just ask this tweet.)

The Whos were fun but unmemorable, save for their enviable cotton candy hair and sick dance moves.

For the sake of those watching from home, the show — which was filmed in London’s Troubadour Theatre — probably would have benefited from the chaotic energy of a live broadcast. Or the sound of an audience, at the very least. We get that there’s a global pandemic afoot, but if every awful award show this season has included a virtual audience, you’d think a musical production could get the same treatment.

The doctors of Chicago Med are now dealing with the coronavirus in real life: Production on the NBC medical drama has been shut down for two weeks after a production team member tested positive for COVID-19, our sister site Deadline reports.

The production team member was immediately sent home following the positive test, and producers Wolf Entertainment and Universal TV decided to pause production out of an abundance of caution, since the production team member was in close proximity with the cast and crew. (A second member from the same department also tested positive last week.)

Med just began filming last week for the upcoming Season 6, and as of now, is still slated to premiere on Wednesday, Nov. 11, along with its fellow #OneChicago series Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. Those other two series are set to begin filming next month.

The global coronavirus pandemic — which has claimed more than 200,000 lives in the United States alone so far — has delayed production on virtually every TV series, with some shows just now getting back to filming. NBC has had to shuffle its fall schedule, with reality shows like American Ninja Warrior and a Weakest Link reboot hosted by Jane Lynch picking up the slack while scripted shows like Law & Order: SVU and The Blacklist get pushed back several months. This Is Us, however, actually moved up its premiere date to Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Syfy’s Van Helsing has added to its cast as it becomes the first U.S. series to resume filming in Canada, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The first three episodes of the fifth and final season had been filmed in January/February in Bratislava, Slovakia, ahead of the pandemic-dictated shutdown in mid-March. Production has now resumed in the Great White North, in Kamloops and Vancouver.

“We understand the Herculean responsibility to be the first out of the gate and will proceed with every cast and crew member’s safety as our first priority,” Nomadic Pictures EP and co-chair Chad Oakes said in a statement to THR.

Among the new faces for the farewell run, as reported by our sister site Deadline: Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy, Bad Blood) will play play Count Dalibor, who despite his best intentions makes some disastrous choices; Ali Liebert (Bomb Girls) has been cast as Nina, a vampire with a colorful past that involves Julius; and Steve Bacic (Virgin River) will play a wild vampire who wears animal skins and has been hiding with a child in an abandoned mine.

With production on the 13-episode final season again underway, a fall premiere date is still anticipated.

The first U.S. TV show to resume production after the industry-wide coronavirus shutdown is hitting pause again.

The Bold and the Beautiful has stopped production after just one day back at work to expand its coronavirus testing, according to our sister site Variety. The CBS daytime soap now aims to return to shooting next Tuesday, June 23.

“We have paused very briefly to modify our testing protocol to better accommodate the large volume of testing needed,” producers Bell-Phillip Television said in a statement. “Safety remains our top priority as we continue to move forward with the production of The Bold and the Beautiful. B&B filmed with cast and crew today, and it was a successful first day back at work.”

The soap was the first scripted series to get back to work here in the U.S. following a three-month shutdown due to the global coronavirus pandemic, which has claimed nearly 120,000 American lives so far. “The health and safety of our cast and crew are of foremost importance to us,” a B&B rep told TVLine at the time. “We will be following all protocols set forth by the State, City, Television City, and the various guilds.”

Before the pause, new episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful were expected to start airing on CBS next month. The long-running soap ran out of new episodes in April and has been running reruns ever since. CBS renewed the series in May for two more years, through the 2021-22 TV season.

The Bold and the Beautiful will resume physical production this Wednesday (June 17), TVLine has confirmed. The CBS soap will be the first scripted series on U.S. soil to get back up and running following Hollywood’s three-month, coronavirus-imposed shutdown.

“The health and safety of our cast and crew are of foremost importance to us,” a B&B rep tells TVLine. “We will be following all protocols set forth by the State, City, Television City, and the various guilds.”

It remains unclear when exactly new episodes of B&B will resume airing on CBS, but sources say it could be as early as July.

Last week, L.A. County issued its “Reopening Protocol for Music, Television and Film Production,” laying out policies designed to protect employee health and measures to ensure physical distancing. Among the new safety measures: All cast and crew are required to wear cloth face coverings whenever they are in contact with others, unless — as in the case with actors — the production activity does not allow for the wearing of a face covering.

Due to the COVID-19 production shutdown, both B&B and fellow CBS sudser Y&R ran out of new episodes in April. CBS has been filling the void with theme weeks of reruns from both shows.

Last month, CBS officially confirmed that B&B had been renewed for two more years, through the 2021-22 TV season.
