]]>First look at David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Alexander Woo’s new series ‘3-BODY PROBLEM’.
The series releases in 2023 on Netflix. pic.twitter.com/vo6nPCPod5
— DiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) September 24, 2022
Some of the actors set to star in the project include Benedict Wong (The Martian, Doctor Strange), Eiza González (Baby Driver), as well as John Bradley and Liam Cunningham of Game of Thrones fame. Considered a modern sci-fi masterpiece, The Three-Body Problem was first published in China in 2008. It took another six years before the novel arrived in the west, and it subsequently became the first Asian novel to win a Hugo Award. Cixin and Ken Liu, who translated two of the novels in the Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy into English, are consulting on the live-action adaptation.
Netflix signed Benioff and Weiss to a lucrative $ 200 million deal in 2019. The 3-Body Problem is the first project the duo is writing for the company – though they also produced a series with Sandra Oh. Netflix is likely to share more information about the 3-Body Problem in the coming months.

Lauren Graham‘s year-plus stint on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist came in very handy while shooting the pilot for The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. In the closing moments of the Disney+ sequel series (premiering Friday), Graham’s unlikely hockey coach performs an impromptu ice dance that was as (intentionally) awkward as it was charming. It was also almost entirely self-choreographed.
“I had to learn a lot of choreography in a very short time on Zoey’s Playlist, so any kind of physical lack of confidence I had… that switch was already flipped,” Graham explains to TVLine. “So I just made it up. I tried to approach the number with a sense of fun and freedom… and a lot of upper body.” While noting with a laugh that “the feet aren’t entirely mine” — a stunt double supplied the fancy footwork — the action above the waist was all her.
Read on as Graham delves further into her Mighty Ducks experience, while also teasing a handful of projects in the pipeline (including, potentially, one with Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino).
TVLINE | How much ice skating experience did you have coming into this?
My training was eighth grade birthday parties in Arlington, Virginia. [Laughs] I did a fair amount of skating as a
kid, just for fun. That’s part of what was appealing to me about this show— can I learn this new skill? There was a built in break between the first and second episodes, but that’s when [COVID] happened. And that break was supposed to be my intense skating boot camp, which I was really looking forward to. And then everything closed. So I wasn’t as good as I wanted to be. If we come back [for Season 2] I plan to improve.
TVLINE | What about hockey — were you a fan?
I was interested more in The Mighty Ducks [franchise than hockey itself]. And I like sports in general. I live with [boyfriend and former Parenthood co-star Peter Krause], who is a Minnesotan [so I have a real link and love for Minnesota [sports]. I’m in a fantasy football league, Michael. This is what’s happened to me.
TVLINE | What?
I know. This is all because of Peter. But the problem I always have with sports is someone loses, and that’s really upsetting to me. Even if it’s [the “other” team that loses], I just find it really harrowing.
TVLINE | You clearly ignored the old Hollywood mantra about never working with kids and animals. Any trepidation about joining a show where the majority of the cast members are…
Thirteen year-olds? [Laughs] No. I’ve worked with a lot of kids in my time. I have developed lifelong friendships with many of them. It was a little bit jarring to walk into the [first] table read. I was like, “Wow, everyone’s 13-years-old.” One of the things I have evolved into [when choosing roles] is thinking more about the big picture. It’s not just the part — it’s what is the endeavor. I was drawn to Disney+ as an entity. I was drawn to [only doing] 10 episodes [per season]. I was drawn to being a producer — and being tapped to direct if there’s a second season. It ticked a lot of boxes. And being a person who is sensitive to reboots, I’m hoping the audience will feel seen and respected.
TVLINE | What was your dynamic with your younger co-stars like?
I hit the jackpot because the kid I worked with most is [my onscreen son] Brady [Noon], who’s really funny and
really sweet and smart. One day while we were shooting the first episode he was like, “Hey. I looked you up. People really like you. And they like the stuff you’ve done!” And I was like, “Did you think I was just some lady off the street?” And he said, “Kind of.” [Laughs] And then he gave me the highest compliment I have ever received in my entire career. He said, “I have worked with Sarah Silverman and you are the two funniest people I know.” I was like, “You’re wrong… but thank you.”
TVLINE | Mighty Ducks, like Zoey’s Playlist, shoots in Vancouver. But because of the pandemic, I’m assuming you couldn’t fly home to L.A. on weekends. Was this the longest period of time you had to be away from home for work?
[Sighs] Yes.
TVLINE | How was it?
It was terrible. [Laughs] I was [in Vancouver] from August 1 to December 15. Thank God [Zoey’s Playlist star] Jane [Levy] was down the street. And my friend Sam [Pancake] was there off and on. There’s a lot of production [in Vancouver] so I’d run into people I sort of know. But if I was ever feeling sorry for myself, I [reminded myself how] lucky I was that they continued [shooting Mighty Ducks during the pandemic] — and that I have any job at all.
TVLINE | Any collaborations with Amy coming up? She’s said she wants to find a role for you on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel…
I don’t know about Maisel. I sort of wonder if it would take you out of [that world] to have me there. I leave that up to her. But we talk all the time. I was texting her yesterday. I think we’ll find something to work together on. I’m
writing quite a bit. I feel like the more experience I have as a writer that that might be something we do [together], although it chills me to think about writing something with or for Amy. But she’s been an accidental — and now intentional — mentor in my writing, and I just think we have similar taste and vibe.
TVLINE | Any more books planned?
I’m working on another book of essays [tentatively] called Have I Told You This Already?, which is a companion piece to my first book of essays [Talking as Fast as I Can], but the subtitle is, “Stories I Don’t Want to Forget to Remember.” It’s about [pre- and] post-Gilmore life. You’ll be excited to hear I’m working on an essay right now called, “Boobs of the 90s,” which is about the year I moved to L.A. from New York. Having [touched on] the bigger events and Gilmore-related stuff in the first book, I’m now thinking in slightly deeper way about how I got started and what it’s like to work at this age and at this time.
TVLINE | Were you able to squeeze in another Season 2 Zoey’s cameo while you were in Vancouver?
No. Someone on my team [at Mighty Ducks] tested positive [for COVID in the fall] so I had to quarantine again in the middle of production. And it just [wiped out] all of my days off, [including all of] my skate-training days; any flexibility there was [in my schedule] was gone. I hope to come back, because I really enjoyed that show and I love Jane. I think there’s hope.

If John Diggle looks a bit green around the gills when he resurfaces on The Flash, it’s because the Arrow hero will be dealing with a lot.
As Arrow‘s series finale drew to a close, Diggle (played by David Ramsey) was packing up to relocate his family to Metropolis when a meteor crashed nearby, slamming him against a moving van. After shaking off the blow, Dig combed through the debris to discover a box, which, upon being opened, emitted a bright green light — seemingly nodding at the character’s long-speculated Green Lantern destiny.
As previously reported, Ramsey is now due to reprise his role as Diggle in a total of five episodes across The Flash (which opens Season 7 on March 2), Supergirl (final season premiere date TBA), Superman & Lois (which debuts tonight, Feb. 23) and Batwoman, as well as play “a mystery role” during Legends of Tomorrow‘s sixth season (premiere date TBA).
During TVLine’s in-depth Season 7 preview Q&A (publishing later this week), we asked showrunner Eric Wallace what The Flash‘s specific plans for Dig are. “Boy, that’s a spoiler!” he replied with a hearty laugh, before offering a tease for what’s to come.
“When we last saw Diggle, he had a situation at the end of Arrow that he needed to deal with,” Wallace reminded, “so he arrives to help Team Flash in the back half of the season carrying the weight of that ‘problem.’ And the question is: How can he help Team Flash when he’s got something even bigger on his mind? And that’s what the story is.”
Speaking to Diggle’s long-teased destiny as a Green Lantern, Arrowverse EP Marc Guggenheim told TVLine over a year ago, “Greg [Berlanti], David and I have had a lot of conversations about David’s future in the Arrowverse going forward, both in front [of] and behind the camera, and there are a lot of ideas that we’re banding about that are very exciting to us…. We’ve just got some cool notions for next season.”

The dirty (baker’s) dozen competing in Season 12 of RuPaul’s Drag Race finally shared the screen on Friday, and regardless of who actually won or lost, we can all agree on one thing: This was the night that America fell in love with Heidi N. Closet.
The Powers That Be may hate her drag name — Ru even took the time to explain how difficult it is to pronounce — but anytime Heidi got a spotlight, be it on the runway or on the set of a fake reality show, the judges couldn’t stop singing her praises. I’m not necessarily predicting that she’ll land in the Top 3 (or 4?), but Heidi serves as an important reminder that you shouldn’t judge a closet by its door.
OK, on to the episode. In what may have been the shadiest mini challenge in Drag Race herstory, Ru asked Widow Von’Du and Jaida Essence Hall to rank their fellow queens based on first impressions. For the record, here’s who they each consider their strongest (and weakest) competition…
Widow: Sherry Pie, Jan, Dahlia Sin, Rock M. Sakura, Aiden Zhane
Jaida: Gigi Goode, Brita, Nicky Doll, Jackie Cox, Crystal Methyd, Heidi
But Aiden and Heidi ended up getting the last laugh, as Ru revealed that they would join Widow and Heidi as captains for this week’s four-team maxi challenge. (Thus began the Week of Heidi!)
And the shade continued as the captains assembled their teams: Aiden recruited Sherry and Brita, Heidi enlisted Jackie and Gigi, Widow picked Nicky and Crystal, and Jaida selected Jan and Dahlia. There was already something about Rock that made me want to reach through my TV and give her a hug, so that feeling only intensified when none of the queens chose her to join their team; she ended up tagging along with Jaida.
This week’s maxi challenge was to write and act out an audition for World’s Worst, a reality show for “wannabe performers with big dreams, outrageous backstories and no talent whatsoever.” It actually turned out to be a really fun American Idol spoof, though I feel like the name was more of a nod to Ru’s short-lived CBS competition show World’s Best. (For the record, if the World’s Best judges panel had consisted of Ross Mathews, Charo and freaking Ornacia, CBS definitely would have renewed it for a second season.)
And on the runway, a buttons-and-bows theme inspired a surprising variety of eccentric looks, from Heidi’s “delightful” Pinocchi-ho getup to Nicky’s oversized hair button. But it was Sherry who emerged the winner of this week’s challenge, due to… reasons. (I don’t think we really need to elaborate on her victory, do you?)
Despite the aforementioned hair button, which the judges appreciated, Nicky found herself lip syncing against Dahlia — whose impressive runway look apparently wasn’t enough to redeem her low-energy performance in the challenge — to the tune of Ariana Grande’s “Problem.” Frankly, neither contestant seemed particularly engaged in the battle. If I had been in Ru’s wig, I would have sent them both home, especially after allowing two weeks to go by with nary an elimination.
But I’m not in Ru’s wig. She is. And she chose to send home Dahlia Sin.

Sadly, there’s no release date for the second half of season four, but series co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have confirmed the season will continue in 2020.
Plus, there have been an additional 70 episodes ordered on top of the first three seasons which should leave long term viewers satisfied.
Hopefully the writers won’t run into more problems with plot holes, though, admittedly, it would definitely be in the spirit of the erratic comedy series.
Rick and Morty season 4 will return to Adult Swim and E4 in 2020.

Whilst discussing various whiskey distilleries throughout Scotland, Sam revealed the show filmed inside the warehouse of the Deanston Distillery.
He explained: “We actually shot in their warehouse, in their bonded warehouse, in season two – in the Deanston Distillery.”
However things didn’t go as planned, as he went on to say the show’s crew were at the mercy of the fumes of the whiskey which surrounded them.
“So literally every, like, half-an-hour,” he went on. “They had to let the crew out!
]]>Before Dancing With the Stars kicked off its 28th season, ABC had hinted that some “format tweaks” were coming down the pike — and many a viewer breathed a sigh of relief.
The tweaks would have been a welcome addition to any cycle, really: After 14 years on the air, DWTS needed a little tune-up, controversy notwithstanding. But the changes seemed especially necessary in the wake of Bobby Bones’ Season 27 victory, which left a large swath of the show’s fans annoyed that a weak dancer had won the Mirrorball trophy, while some frontrunners didn’t even reach the finale.
And yet, now that we’ve bid adieu to Season 28 — perhaps an even more polarizing cycle than the one that preceded it — it’s time to call a spade a spade: Dancing’s new format failed to fix the show’s problems.
I’m specifically referencing the new judges’ save, which allowed Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli to choose which of the bottom two couples would go home each week. Shocking eliminations have happened on DWTS for years, but the judges’ save seemed designed to prevent that, allowing them to protect a strong duo that would otherwise go home prematurely.
But when the show introduced this twist, it was assuming that the weakest dancers would also get the least votes from America, paving the way for piece-of-cake decisions from the judges. And that didn’t happen. Instead, we got the baffling success of ex-White House press secretary Sean Spicer, who got enough votes to snag sixth place (!) despite no visible improvement week over week.
It’s no secret that DWTS is often a popularity contest, rewarding well-liked contestants (or contestants who are giving it the ol’ college try) over those who dance well. But I’m still of the opinion that it shouldn’t be — and I’m not alone in that. In a recent TVLine poll, 44 percent of readers said they typically vote for the best and/or highest-scored dancers, while 22 percent typically show support for those who are improving each week. Only 11 percent said they vote for the most likable contestants, regardless of their skill, while 16 percent tend to rally behind the celebrity they already recognized.
Plus, the show also seems to want the strongest dancers to win. Anytime a frontrunner goes home too soon — like Season 28 hopefuls Sailor Brinkley-Cook or Kate Flannery — the judges find it “frustrating.” Hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews are stunned. The studio audience boos! And if the show didn’t value talent over popularity, why introduce the judges’ save at all? Why not just let the home audience call the shots?
But if the show really wants to keep the best dancers, the judges’ save isn’t enough — not when a weak contestant like Spicer can still get by on America’s votes, though he’s hardly the only amateur to survive on fan support alone. If the show is renewed for Season 29, perhaps the judges’ scores need to make up a bigger fraction of the final results. Or, at the risk of getting lambasted by the studio audience, the judges may simply need to score dancers more harshly if they’re not improving. (After all, there’s no world in which Spicer ever deserved sevens, is there?)
DWTS certainly gets kudos for trying something new; the judges’ save was an exciting addition to Season 28, even when it didn’t have the desired effect. But if the show truly wants to reward the best of the best (and it seems to want that!), a bigger and bolder change needs to step into the spotlight.
