grubhub
  • Amazon just announced its second Prime-exclusive event of 2022 will be held October 11 and 12.
  • One of the best Prime membership benefits is a year of Grubhub+, which you can still claim ahead of the October event.
  • Grubhub+ usually costs $ 9.99 a month and gets you free delivery on mobile food orders, plus occasional freebies.

Amazon announced today that it'll hold a second big sales holiday, which it's calling the Prime Early Access Event, on October 11 and 12. While shopping the sale (and others like it, such as Prime Day) is one of the big perks for Prime members, we're also diving into other Prime benefits ahead of the big day, including one of its newest: a year of Grubhub+ for new and existing members.

Grubhub is a food delivery app that allows you to order food from local and chain restaurants in your area. While the app is free, you typically pay a delivery fee on each order, ranging from $ 2.50 to $ 7.50. Grubhub+ lets you to avoid the delivery fees on your orders for $ 9.99 per month. With Amazon's new offer, a year of Grubhub+ is now included with a $ 14.99 per month Prime membership fee — a savings of nearly $ 120.

How to claim a year of Grubhub+ with Prime

New and existing members can visit Amazon's Grubhub+ page and click the "Activate free Grubhub+" button. You'll be prompted to set up or sign into your Prime account and then rerouted to Grubhub.

Who is eligible?

All Prime members are eligible, including Prime Student members. If you are already a Grubhub+ member, you can still claim the offer. The only exceptions are Grubhub Campus, Corporate, and certain existing partnership members.

What are the benefits of Grubhub+?

Grubhub+ lets you order food from the app with unlimited $ 0 delivery fees on orders over $ 12 at eligible restaurants. You can also get free food and occasional member discounts, like $ 10 off a pickup order every month. We've found that if you order food at least once a week, Grubhub+ is worth it.

What are the other benefits of Amazon Prime?

Aside from a year of Grubhub+, an Amazon Prime membership comes with a number of useful benefits. Chief among them are free shipping on most orders and access to the retailer's huge sales event, Prime Day and its newer Early Access holiday event in October. If you're unsure of whether Prime is for you, Amazon offers a free 30 day trial that allows you to take advantage of the benefits before committing.

  • Amazon announced it's holding a new sales event called the "Prime Early Access Sale" in October.
  • Amazon has historically had a big sales event for its prime subscribers in July.
  • Insider previously reported Amazon was planning the second October event.

Amazon is doubling up its usual "Prime Day" sales bonanza by hosting another sales event for its Prime subscription members in October, the retail giant announced in a press release Monday.

The sales event, which will run through October 11 and 12, will be called the "Prime Early Access Sale" and feature a list of 100 "popular and giftable items" per Amazon's press release.

Insider's Katherine Long reported in July that Amazon was planning an October deals event after viewing internal company documents describing the event, but confirmation only arrived Monday,

The documents reported by Insider called the Early Access Sale a "high velocity" sales event designed to reward people who are signed up to Amazon's subscription service, Amazon Prime.

Amazon is already famous for Prime Day, which takes place in July. The October timing of the Early Access Sale means Amazon will be throwing the sales event right before it heads into its busy holiday season, known internally as "peak."

Amazon increased the annual price of its Prime membership in February by $ 20 in the US, and announced in July it was raising prices in several European countries by as much as 43%.

Amazon did not immediately respond when contacted by Insider about why it had decided to introduce another sales day.

The e-commerce giant experienced a huge surge in demand at the onset of the pandemic, which caused the company to buy up warehouse space that now exceeds its needs, chief financial officer Brian Olsavsky told reporters in April.

The UK has a new Prime Minister — meet Liz Truss, the tax-cutting Brexit convert taking over from Boris Johnson https://briefnews.eu/the-uk-has-a-new-prime-minister-meet-liz-truss-the-tax-cutting-brexit-convert-taking-over-from-boris-johnson/ https://briefnews.eu/the-uk-has-a-new-prime-minister-meet-liz-truss-the-tax-cutting-brexit-convert-taking-over-from-boris-johnson/#respond Mon, 05 Sep 2022 11:59:05 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/the-uk-has-a-new-prime-minister-meet-liz-truss-the-tax-cutting-brexit-convert-taking-over-from-boris-johnson/ Liz Truss
Liz Truss during the 2022 leadership campaign.

  • Liz Truss has been named the new prime minister of the UK in the wake of Boris Johnson quitting.
  • Truss, a Johnson loyalist, won a five-week campaign and is seen as offering continuity with Johnson.
  • Truss is a prominent Brexit supporter, despite once opposing it, and has pledged sweeping tax cuts.

Liz Truss has been named the new Conservative leader after a fierce leadership battle following Boris Johnson's resignation on July 7. The victory also makes her the new prime minister, due to take over on Tuesday.

Johnson was forced to step down after a string of scandals — including his handling of an accusation of sexual assault against one of his senior MP's and attending parties during the COVID-19 lockdowns — sparked the resignation of more than 60 members of his government in three days.

An ally of Johnson, Truss has often been described as the continuity candidate – but who is she, and what can we expect from her premiership?

Who is Liz Truss?

Born in Oxford, England, in 1975, Truss has been MP for West Norfolk since 2010, a minister for 10 years and a cabinet minister for eight. It makes her one of the most experienced operators in the UK's government.

Before being named Conservative leader, she was foreign secretary. Truss has also been trade secretary, women and equalities minister and environment secretary. She was the first woman to be Lord Chancellor and justice secretary.

During the 2016 EU referendum, Truss backed the Remain side, but later repositioned herself as an ardent Brexiteer to take positions more hardline than some who backed Brexit from the start, including Rishi Sunak, her rival for the leadership.

Truss also started out life supporting a different political party. As a student, she was a Liberal Democrat – the third-largest and most centrist party in the UK.

Unlike her predecessor, Truss attended a state-funded school, Roundhay, which she has criticised for having "let down" pupils. She went on to study Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at Oxford — a degree common to many in Britain's political elite.

What does Truss believe?

Her switch from the Lib Dems to Tories, and Remain to Leave has led some critics to suggest Truss is something of a shape-shifter.

She certainly hasn't shied away from controversy. A video of a young Liz Truss advocating for the abolition of the British monarchy — a fringe position she long since abandoned — went viral during her campaign.

More recently, Truss has placed herself on the right of the party, criticising "fashionable" policies on race, sexuality, and gender.

While Johnson attempted to emulate wartime leader Sir Winston Churchill, Truss has more often looked to Margaret Thatcher for inspiration, vowing not to give "handouts" but instead cut taxes in response to the growing economic crisis in the UK, which is facing high inflation and soaring energy costs.

As foreign secretary, she met with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov at the beginning of February as nations including the UK warned that the invasion of Ukraine was increasingly inevitable. It resulted in a frosty press conference with Lavrov complaining it was a conversation of "the mute with the deaf".

It later transpired that Truss insisted on visiting Russia against official advice. "The head of the Russia desk told her not to go, the head of security told her not to go," an official told The Times of London.

Within Westminster, Truss has gained a certain notoriety for her photoshoots including a Thatcher-esque tank ride, flying Britain's Union Jack flag (on an umbrella) on overseas trips, and a series of glossy shots for an interview with the Mail on Sunday.

She is also (in)famous for her stilted delivery during speeches, as shown in the compilation video below from London's Evening Standard newspaper.

A particularly awkward speech in 2014 resulted in memes that have followed her ever since, mostly focused on moments where Truss made an uncomfortable pause boasting of opening access to "new pork markets" in China and branding as "a disgrace" the extent to which Britons eat foreign instead of British cheese.

A 2021 profile by Politico noted that Truss had always been a nervous public speaker, but worked on honing her delivery after getting more prominent jobs.

During the five-week campaign to win the Conservative leadership, Truss stuck to her guns on tax, promising to reverse the 1.25% rise in National Insurance tax introduced by rival Rishi Sunak.

She also pledged not to introduce any new taxes and said she would scrap a planned 6% rise in corporation taxes.

Although this has been criticised as regressive, helping the richer in society more, Truss told the BBC it was fair because the richest paid more tax to begin with.

"Of course, there are some people who don't pay tax at all," she said on Sunday. "But to look at everything through the lens of redistribution I believe is wrong because what I'm about is about growing the economy and growing the economy benefits everybody."

However, on Monday morning – hours before she was confirmed as the new party leader  – The Daily Telegraph reported she was now considering freezing energy bills to avoid "Armageddon".

British Foreign Secretary and Conservative leadership candidate Liz Truss speaks with a worker as she attends a Conservative Party leadership campaign event at Condimentum Ltd at the Food Enterprise Park on August 25, 2022 in Norwich, England.

Truss has adopted a similar approach to Johnson when it comes to Europe and Brexit.

As foreign secretary Truss has threatened to trigger Article 16 over the Northern Ireland Protocol, which unionists claim is damaging the UK's integrity. During the campaign, sources suggested she could do this within days of becoming prime minister.

Asked whether French President Emmanuel Macron was a friend or foe to the British state, Truss replied "the jury is out". This earned her some criticism, although Macron appeared to make light of it, leaving Johnson to insist that Macron was a "tres bon buddy".

While she appears aligned with Johnson on Brexit, one area where the two disagree is the environment. Truss has called solar panels as "a blight on the landscape," and plans to cut the green levy, a portion of energy bills that goes towards social and environmental projects.

Who did she defeat?

Conservative leadership hopefuls Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak appear together at the end of the final Tory leadership hustings at Wembley Arena on August 31, 2022 in London, England.
Conservative leadership hopefuls Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak appear together at the end of the final Tory leadership hustings at Wembley Arena on August 31, 2022 in London, England.

Former chancellor Rishi Sunak was the second cabinet member to resign when Boris Johnson was Prime Minister and thus played a huge role in triggering the leadership election.

The two differed on their economic pledges, leading to some fiery moments in the campaign and making it unlikely he will hold a government post under the Truss administration.

While Truss pledged to reduce taxes immediately, Sunak wanted to look to do this after the UK had "gripped inflation."

Sunak led the parliamentary stage of the contest, winning the backing of a majority of Conservative MPs, but lost that edge as the race continued, eventually polling more than 30 points behind Truss in the last few weeks.

A prominent Tory donor warned that Britain will be seen as racist for not selecting Sunak, who would have been the UK's first non-white prime minister had he won.

What happens now?

While Truss has been named as Conservative party leader, she must wait another day before officially becoming prime minister.

Truss becomes prime minister on Tuesday when she will travel to meet the Queen at Balmoral in Scotland. It is the first time the Queen has handed over power outside of London, owing to concerns about the 96-year old monarch's mobility.

Johnson is due to first inform the Queen of his resignation formally and become a backbench MP.

Truss will then announce her new Cabinet, with changes expected as early as Tuesday evening. Allies including Kwasi Kwarteng, James Cleverly and Therese Coffey are all likely to be rewarded with big new jobs while Dominic Raab, Michael Gove, Steve Barclay and Sunak, are likely to lose out.

Per reports in UK outlets, Truss is likely to oversee an emergency Budget, with a possible date of September 21.

Truss does not have to call a General Election and can hypothetically continue with the parliamentary majority which Johnson won until January 2025. But polls suggest Tory popularity is declining.

With a looming economic and energy crisis, as well as the ongoing war in Ukraine and the never-ending fall-out from Brexit, the new prime minister has a mammoth task ahead of her.

President Joe Biden speaks outside Independence Hall, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, in Philadelphia.

  • President Joe Biden on Thursday delivered a speech on the "battle for the soul of the nation."
  • The president assailed "MAGA Republicans," who he said are determined to take the country backwards.
  • "For a long time, we've reassured ourselves that American democracy is guaranteed," he said. "But it is not.

With some of his strongest statements yet, President Joe Biden assailed "MAGA Republicans" in a rare prime-time speech on Thursday evening, as he spoke of an impending "battle for the soul of the nation," just two months ahead of the November midterm elections.

Though his administration advertised the speech as an official White House event and not a campaign event, Biden's televised comments come as he works to drum up support for Democratic lawmakers in an effort to help his party maintain control of Congress.

Biden delivered his remarks from the Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday night, channeling the venue's "sacred" history in his early statements.

"Tonight I have come here to the place where it all began to speak plainly as I can to the nation about the threats we face, about the power we have in our hands to meet these threats," he said. "And about the incredible future that lies in front of us if only we choose it."

Biden has mostly avoided using Trump's name in recent speeches, but by naming him Thursday, he offered a more pointed attack at the former president and his supporters, accusing them of embracing extremism.

"MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards. Backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love," Biden said. "They promote authoritarian leaders and fan the flames of political violence."

The president acknowledged that the majority of Republicans are not the type of people about which he was talking, but said the current Republican Party is undoubtedly "dominated, driven, and intimidated by MAGA Republicans," and called it a threat to our country.

"For a long time, we've told ourselves that American democracy is guaranteed. But it is not. We have to defend it. Protect it. Stand up for it. Each and every one of us," the president said.

Biden went off-script at one point to describe "darkness like you're hearing in that bullhorn," referring to protests outside the hall.

He urged the country to come together and unite behind a single purpose in rejecting MAGA ideology, while castigating insurrectionists and stressing the danger of undermining election integrity.

"There's no place for political violence in America," he said to applause from the crowd.

In a statement shared with Insider, Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said Biden's "wretched attacks" on millions of Americans are fueling division in the country.

"His agenda has pitted neighbors against each other, rewarded the wealthy while punishing working families, and trampled on the rights and freedoms of Americans," McDaniel said. "Joe Biden is the divider-in-chief and epitomizes the current state of the Democrat Party: one of divisiveness, disgust, and hostility towards half the country."

The president's comments come just days after he suggested at a Democratic fundraiser that the ideology of the MAGA Republicans who have embraced former President Donald Trump's worldview have paved the way for "semi-fascism" in the country.

Biden also took time during the speech to highlight some of his legislative successes, including a gun safety law and a recent healthcare reform and climate package, and made promises for the future, including ending cancer and providing more clean jobs.

"Democracy must be defended, for democracy makes all these things possible," he said.

The president ended his speech by encouraging people to "vote, vote, vote," and made mention of doing "our duty" in 2022 and beyond.

But whether or not most Americans heard Biden's plea remains unclear. The three primary broadcasting networks chose not to carry his speech, opting to show their regular-scheduled programming instead.

Thursday Night Football Moving From Fox to Amazon Prime in 2023 https://briefnews.eu/thursday-night-football-moving-from-fox-to-amazon-prime-in-2023/ https://briefnews.eu/thursday-night-football-moving-from-fox-to-amazon-prime-in-2023/#respond Thu, 18 Mar 2021 21:20:28 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/thursday-night-football-moving-from-fox-to-amazon-prime-in-2023/

Are you ready for some… streaming?

In one of a series of multi-year, megabucks deals the NFL closed on Thursday with assorted outlets, Amazon Prime will become the league’s exclusive Thursday Night Football partner starting with the 2023 season. (Fox has had broadcast dibs on TNF since 2018; prior to that, CBS and NBC divvied up the package of games.)

With this new, 10-year pact, Amazon Prime, which since 2017 had streamed the occasional matchup, will host 15 Thursday Night Football games as well as one pre-season game in the United States.

Beginning in 2023, “Thursday Night Football will be our first-ever digital package and we are thrilled to exclusively partner with Amazon to bring our games to more fans on more platforms,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “NFL football drives passionate viewers and Amazon will enable us to continue to grow our fanbase in innovative and compelling ways.”

Prime Video also secured rights to a weekly slate of original NFL programming and expanded rights to in-game highlights for all NFL matchups. Additionally, Prime Video and the NFL will continue to collaborate on exclusive NFL content and enhanced fan viewing experiences around Thursday Night Football (details to come).

Other highlights of the assorted deals made by the NFL:

🏈 ABC will return to the Super Bowl rotation for the first time since 2006, starting with the Big Game in 2026.

🏈 CBS will remain the broadcast home of AFC games, and stream them on Paramount+. Similarly, Fox will be home base for Sunday NFC games, while NBC will continue on with Sunday Night Football (simulcasting games on Peacock).

🏈 ESPN Plus will stream one International Series game per season.

All told, sources tell the Associated Press, the NFL will take in $ 113 billion (with a B) over 11 seasons starting in 2023, from the assorted deals it just closed — up 80 percent from the previous comparable period.

The Boys season three confirmed ahead of second outing on Amazon Prime https://briefnews.eu/the-boys-season-three-confirmed-ahead-of-second-outing-on-amazon-prime/ https://briefnews.eu/the-boys-season-three-confirmed-ahead-of-second-outing-on-amazon-prime/#respond Fri, 24 Jul 2020 03:55:37 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/the-boys-season-three-confirmed-ahead-of-second-outing-on-amazon-prime/

The second season of popular anti-superhero drama The Boys won’t hit Amazon Prime Video until September 4. Fans now know the story is set to continue as a third season has just been confirmed ahead of the next release.

Karl Urban led the new Amazon series to success last year with a fresh take on the superhero genre based on comic books by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

Urban stars as Billy Butcher, a former CIA agent who leads an investigation by The Boys into a corrupt league of superheroes.

Season one was widely acclaimed as a mature and darker antidote to superhero blockbusters popularised by Marvel and DC.

Producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg broke the news during this year’s San Diego Comic Con, which is being held online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Rogen confirmed: “If you like The Boys, you’ve got more of it … thank god.”

The announcement broke alongside brand new footage for The Boys season two, which Amazon described as ‘even more intense, even more insane’.

First-look footage featured The Boys on the run from the Supes after the shocking and subversive events of the first season.

Butcher, Hughie (Jack Quaid) and Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso) face off against sleazy superhero The Deep (Chace Crawford) and a giant whale in the exclusive clip.

Season two will also introduce a new hero to the ranks, Stormfront (Aya Cash) as the Seven take on a new supervillain threat.

Unfortunately, it may be sometime before production on the series can continue due to the effects of COVID-19.

Filming on season one took place in Toronto, and there is still significant uncertainty across North America regarding the ongoing pandemic.

Although production saw a quick turnaround between the first and second seasons, it may be some time before the cast and crew are safe to start work on season three.

Good Omens to be AXED? 20,000 sign petition for Amazon Prime show to be cancelled https://briefnews.eu/good-omens-to-be-axed-20000-sign-petition-for-amazon-prime-show-to-be-cancelled/ https://briefnews.eu/good-omens-to-be-axed-20000-sign-petition-for-amazon-prime-show-to-be-cancelled/#respond Fri, 21 Jun 2019 10:06:00 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/good-omens-to-be-axed-20000-sign-petition-for-amazon-prime-show-to-be-cancelled/

Good Omens, which is based on Terry Pratchett’s fantasy novel launched on Amazon Prime at the end of last month with a cast including Michael Sheen and David Tenant.

Directed by Neil Gaiman, who also worked on American Gods, the series has been a hit with many fans.

However, a petition has been launched calling for the series to be cancelled and to be removed from Netflix.

Christian campaign site Return to Order set up the petition, which now has over 20,000 signatures.

The site has claimed the show “mocked God’s wisdom” and presenting “devils and Satanists as normal and even gods”.

Fans of the series have been quick to point out the petition is calling for Netflix to cut the show from its streaming site despite it actually airing on Amazon Prime.

Director Neil made light of the situation, sharing on his Twitter page: “I love that they are going to write to Netflix to try and get #GoodOmens cancelled. Says it all really.”

He later asked fans: “This is so beautiful… Promise me you won’t tell them?”

As many fans do enjoy Good Omens, Neil has opened up on the show revealing there was a major scene, which was almost deleted.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, he explained: “There was one sequence which I made sure was in [the show] because – Terry had written the Agnes Nutter sequence – the death by burning, and the explosion – and I wanted that in there because it was Terry’s.”

The scene in question sees Agnes being discovered a witch and put to death by being burnt at the stake.

Before she was killed, there was a sequence which told Agnes’ history and how she wrote The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch.

But it seems producers weren’t too keen on the scenes.

“We had some producers who thought maybe we could cut that sequence, and replace it with some wood cuts and a narrator,” Neil revealed.

“So I checked in with the imaginary Terry Pratchett on my shoulder – and none of the replies he gave me were printable.”

Neil decided he wouldn’t allow the sequence to be changed or taken out.

“I went back to the producers and let them know: ‘No that would be staying,’” he commented.

“We would find the money to do it, and find trims elsewhere, and so on, but that sequence would be staying.”

Neil has also revealed he doesn’t think he would return for another series.

“It’s time for me to go back and be a novelist,” he told Express.co.uk.

Good Omens is streaming on Amazon Prime now.

Good Omens ending explained: What happened at the end of the Amazon Prime series? https://briefnews.eu/good-omens-ending-explained-what-happened-at-the-end-of-the-amazon-prime-series/ https://briefnews.eu/good-omens-ending-explained-what-happened-at-the-end-of-the-amazon-prime-series/#respond Sun, 02 Jun 2019 03:43:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/good-omens-ending-explained-what-happened-at-the-end-of-the-amazon-prime-series/

The Good Omens ending on Amazon Prime saw the apocalypse just about averted. Amazon Prime viewers who have made it to the end of Good Omens, however, may have been left wondering what happened as the complicated series tied up its many loose ends. Good Omens also had an ending that set up a potential season two on Amazon.

What happened at the end of Good Omens?

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the ending of Good Omens

Good Omens ends with Aziraphale (played by Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) drinking in The Ritz while, for the first time, a nightingale sings in Berkeley Square.

This comes after they witness the averting of the apocalypse and survive their own destruction at the hands of the angels and demons with a little help from Agnes Nutter (Josie Lawrence).

For their role in averting the Apocalypse, Crowley is sentenced to being executed by having a bath in holy water, while Aziraphale is told to walk into the fire of Hell.

However, neither of them is destroyed or even harmed by doing this.

WILL THERE BE ANOTHER SERIES OF GOOD OMENS?

This is because they took the advice of Agnes Nutter’s final prophecy, which read: “When all is faced and all is done, ye must choose your faces wisely, for soon enouff you will be playing with fyre.” [sic]

They, therefore, swapped faces, allowing them both to survive their respective executions.

Sitting together on a bench in Bloomsbury after this, they switch bodies back before warning that the greater battle is to come: the battle between Earth and the combined armies of Heaven and Hell.

This is after the Antichrist incarnate Adam Young (Sam Taylor Buck) prevented the Apocalypse.

He used his almighty powers to destroy three of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse by giving his three friends the power to counteract War (Mireille Enos), Pollution (Lourdes Faberes) and Famine (Yusuf Gatewood).

WHERE IS GOOD OMENS FILMED AND SET?

Adam then defeats his father, Satan himself (Benedict Cumberbatch) by turning himself human.

This is not before he reboots the Earth, preventing the actions of the last few days from ever taking place and returning Aziraphale’s bookshop and Crowley’s car back into existence.

The ending of Good Omens also gives happy endings to some of the other major characters.

Madame Tracey (played by Miranda Richardson) and Shadwell (Michael McKean) are finally able to admit their feelings for each other after the former stops her “harlot” ways and the former is certain that she is not a witch after he finds out she only has two nipples.

Newton Pulsifer (Jack Whitehall) and Anathema Device (Adria Arjona), meanwhile, continue their relationship after the latter calls her former her boyfriend during the events at the airfield.

WHAT BOOK IS GOOD OMENS BASED ON?

Newton plays his part in the apocalypse by being so useless at computers (as established in an earlier episode) that he breaks the computer that is about to cause the nuclear destruction of the planet.

After these events, courier Giles Baddicombe (Sanjeev Bhaskar) delivers Newton and Anathema a package containing further prophecies from Agnes Nutter.

However, they decide to burn them rather than have their future written out – though the page we see ends with “the saga continues”, meaning Good Omens season two could be coming soon.

Good Omens is streaming on Netflix now.

Hanna on Amazon Prime cast: Who is in the cast of Hanna TV series? https://briefnews.eu/hanna-on-amazon-prime-cast-who-is-in-the-cast-of-hanna-tv-series/ https://briefnews.eu/hanna-on-amazon-prime-cast-who-is-in-the-cast-of-hanna-tv-series/#respond Wed, 20 Mar 2019 23:34:23 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/hanna-on-amazon-prime-cast-who-is-in-the-cast-of-hanna-tv-series/

Hanna on Amazon Prime premieres on Friday, March 29 with every episode dropping online at once. The cast for Hanna is led by relative newcomer Esme Creed-Miles, but she’s joined by a number of Hollywood heavyweights such as Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos. Here’s all you need to know about the rest of the cast of Hanna and what they made of the roles.

Who is in the cast of Hanna on Amazon Prime?

Hanna – Esme Creed-Miles

Esme Creed-Miles plays the title character of Hanna in the Amazon Prime TV series.

The 19-year-old’s biggest role prior to Hanna came in the Ruth Wilson and Sean Bean-led drama Dark River in 2017.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other media at a private screening of Hanna, the actor revealed how she landed the role.

She said: “I wasn’t like sent the script – I had to do a ton of auditions.

“It’s just such a great opportunity for an actress, it was just insane. Obviously, I’d seen the film and it was awesome so it’s just really cool.”

Erik – Joel Kinnaman

Swedish-born Joel Kinnaman, 39, plays the role of Hanna’s protective father Erik in the Prime series.

No stranger to DC Comics fans for his part as Rick Flag in Suicide Squad, Kinsman’s CV also include roles in Netflix Original series Altered Carbon and Nordic noir drama The Killing.

Kinnaman said of his new role: “David’s [creator] writing is just always so nuanced, layered and sparse so it’s just really good material to dive into for an actor.

“For me, the big challenge on this project was the language – we were talking about it early on because, originally, the script was all in English.

“I was a proponent for making it into its natural language and, you know, be careful what you wish for because then the decision was made later on to have it in its natural language which meant I had to do 20 scenes in German.

“I don’t speak a word of it, and, not only speaking German but being a German-speaking German. That was a big challenge for me was to get the language right but, when the material is so well written, it’s easier, it kinda plays itself.”

Marissa – Mireille Enos

Another star of The Killing, Golden Globe-nominee Mireille Enos, 43, portrays the vengeful Marissa as she hunts down Hanna and her father.

Enos spoke about reuniting with Kinnaman and said: “Well, we spent so many hours together over so many years that we became actual great friends.

“We’re playing people in this that have a long history so it just, so much of the work was done for us because we know each other so well.

“What we could do with a glance or gesture, it takes years to be able to get to that kind of comfort level.”

Sophie – Rhianne Barreto

Hanna isn’t just the first major role for Creed-Miles but also for Rhianne Barreto, who takes on the role of Sophie.

“I play a normal teenager with normal problems, with hormones, sweat problems, and swearing problems,” Barreto said.

She continued: “I just kind of bump into Hanna and Sarah [director] described our relationship as a romance so the whole time I was filming I was like: ‘This is a beautiful rom-com, I love it,’ – not realising that I was in a thriller of sorts.

“David gave me a lot of freedom to improvise so I was really lucky as I don’t think you get that much with TV.”

Amazon Prime viewers may recognise Barreto for her previous roles in Strike Back on HBO channel Cinemax and in ITV mini-series Little Boy Blue.

Tom – Phaldut Sharma

Soap fans in the UK will undoubtedly recognise Phaldut Sharma from his time on BBC’s EastEnders.

Globally, Sharma’s most notable role came in the Oscar-winning blockbuster Gravity alongside George Clooney and Sandra Bullock.

In Hanna, Sharman plays Tom, another person to cross paths with Hanna once she escapes into the real world.

Arvo – Aleksandr Gorchilin

Russian-born actor Aleksandr Gorchilin may only appear in the first episode, but he leaves a lasting impact on the character.

Arvo is Hanna’s first contact with the outside world having been sheltered in the forest by her father her whole life.

The actor’s best known for his roles in some of Russian cinema’s biggest blockbuster in recent years, including The Student and Ikariya.

Jerome Sawyer – Khalid Abdalla

Khalid Abdalla lands the role of Jerome Sawyer on Hanna having starred in a number of box office hits.

Abdalla appeared opposite Hollywood royalty Matt Damon in Green Zone and also starred in the BAFTA-nominated movie The Kite Runner.

Hanna is released on Amazon Prime on Friday, March 29.

Countryfile: 'Just had my dinner' Viewers put off by Adam birthing sheep in prime time https://briefnews.eu/countryfile-just-had-my-dinner-viewers-put-off-by-adam-birthing-sheep-in-prime-time/ https://briefnews.eu/countryfile-just-had-my-dinner-viewers-put-off-by-adam-birthing-sheep-in-prime-time/#respond Sun, 17 Mar 2019 23:26:58 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/countryfile-just-had-my-dinner-viewers-put-off-by-adam-birthing-sheep-in-prime-time/

Countryfile fans have certainly seen a number of strange goings-on on the the BBC show.

However this evening gave them another shock as they began watching Adam Henson birthing a lamb.

Venturing into his lambing pens, he announced: “Our first block of lambing is in full swing!”

“All of these are pregnant in the pens, but I’ve got one yew who is giving birth now.”

After claiming one lamb to give to another sheep, he noticed the sheep in question was having some trouble giving birth.

He continued: “She needs a little bit of assistance to get the lamb out.”

However Adam also wanted to help one of the stray lambs get adopted, so he wanted to perform what was called a “wet adoption.”

He continued: “Then I want to do a wet adoption, it’s called, so I need to collect the birth waters as the lamb is born – and I’ll rub the lamb in the waters.”

Viewers than sat through the newborn lamb being pulled out of its mother’s womb by Tom.

He began by pulling one leg out, before reaching for the second.

Once the lamb was out, he proudly announced: “The newly born lamb is breathing!”

However fans of the show were a little perturbed by the process, and quickly began speaking out about it on Twitter.

One viewer complained: “Watching a sheep give birth has put me off my strawberry cheesecake #Countryfile.”

Another agreed: “Really don’t know why they showed a lamb being birthed in prime time – when like everyone is having their food. #countryfile.”

While a third concurred: “So glad I’ve just had my dinner #countryfile.”

Recently Countryfile presenter Anita Rani spoke out about why people still watch the show.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk she explained: “I am surprised at how many people love the programme. It’s 30 years old, it’s been going for a long, long time and it’s most successful at the moment.

“I just think people want to switch off from whatever else is going on in the world and on a Sunday night at seven o’clock.

“It’s just the perfect time to have something which taps into nature.”

Countryfile continues Sunday at 7pm on BBC One.
