But what if I told you that you can become your own insider, especially when it comes to Nintendo Switch? Yes, you can create your own realistic predictions with ease rather than getting let down by enticing Reddit threads. All you have to do is follow Nintendo’s development cycle patterns, which have become crystal clear following today’s Direct showcase.
The deeper we get into the Nintendo Switch’s life cycle, the more clear patterns in Nintendo’s release cadence are starting to show. If you look at the company’s first-party 2022 release calendar, you might notice that it looks a little familiar. That’s because a good half of it has been comprised of sequels to games that hit the console in 2017.
In the Switch’s inaugural year, we got Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Splatoon 2, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Fire Emblem Warriors, and more. By the end of this year, Switch owners will have Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Splatoon 3, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. That’s not to mention that we were originally supposed to get The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom this year too, following up on 2017’s Breath of the Wild.
Coincidence? Or the machine-like reality of video game development cycles? You decide.

Five years isn’t a hard and fast rule, but you can see that rough time frame holding true when it comes to Switch sequels. September’s Nintendo Direct made that especially clear as it gave us our first look at the console’s 2023 line-up, which is already paralleling with 2018 and 2019. Octopath Traveler 2 is coming five years after its predecessor (though it’s a Square Enix project, not Nintendo) and Fire Emblem Engage‘s timing tracks by similar logic, though it’s a year early. If you really wanted to get tinfoil hat about it, you could note that Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe will launch five years after the last 2D Kirby game on Switch, Kirby Star Allies.
With all that in mind, Nintendo fans can start to make some educated guesses as to what could be coming in the back half of 2023 and even 2024. For instance, 2023 will mark the five-year anniversary of Pokémon Let’s Go! Pikachu and Eevee. We tend to get a new Pokémon game every year and Nintendo’s holiday 2023 slot is currently open, so you could make an educated guess that a Gold and Silver remake in that style could land around then.
Follow that logic into 2024 and you can start making even bigger predictions. That year gave us Grezzo’s excellent remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. The studio has been mostly quiet since, leaving fans to speculate whether or not it’s planning to remake another Zelda game. Perhaps we’ll see some long-rumored Oracle of Ages and Seasons remakes then. Other possibilities could include sequels to Luigi’s Mansion 3, Super Mario Maker 2, Yoshi’s Crafted World, and Ring Fit Adventure. It’s entirely plausible that a September 2023 Direct could include any number of those games.

You could poke plenty of holes in that logic, especially considering that we don’t have a Super Mario Odyssey follow-up on the horizon and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate defies any established Nintendo timelines. But this simply serves as a reminder that for all its secrecy, the video game industry often runs like a predictable machine. You can analyze patterns and start to make educated guesses about sequels with relative ease. There’s an assembly line-like efficiency to franchise production and Nintendo has especially locked that down during the Switch’s lifespan. There will always be left-field surprises and series that buck trends due to their success, but half of the Switch’s exclusives in the past year should come as no surprise to anyone who’s tuned in enough.

Holby City aired emotion scenes on Tuesday evening, as Adrian “Fletch” Fletcher was rushed into surgery following his cancer diagnosis. He had been suffering from an unknown health issue which caused him to blackout at work.
Since booking himself in for a test, it was then revealed the Head of Nursing has prostate cancer, which left him shocked and totally devastated.
To make matters worse, his close friend Essie Di Lucca (Kaye Wragg) is also undergoing gruelling chemotherapy for a new brain tumour and now fans are speculating that the two of them could bow out of Holby in the worst way possible.
As Fletch was rushed to theatre, Essie tried to keep his daughter Evie distracted as she watched on in horror.
After a heart to heart, the situation got all too much for Essie, who later broke down in tears at the thought of her pal going through the same thing.

She was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2018, and had to undergo a hysterectomy to survive.
The news tormented her as she became more fearful of losing the chance of becoming a mum.
Speaking about her cancer storyline, actress Kaye Wragg who plays Essie, told What’s On TV: “At first, Essie thought ‘I’m going to get through this’. But because her cancer is very aggressive, she needs a very potent level of chemo, which made her very poorly.
“The side-effects really knocked her sideways, so she wanted to stop the chemo just to feel normal again. In her head, anything was better than how she was feeling at that time.”
She added: “Essie needed someone to tell her not to give up – and that person was Fletch.”
After it was revealed that Fletch would also be suffer from the relentless and cruel disease, she said that “showing the real struggle of two nurses sharing an illness together yet being alone in their own torture of what their futures hold is Holby at its best”.
She described it as “tough” to watch but believed it would resonate well with cancer sufferers as they go on a journey together, where they would learn “their worst fears” and reflect upon “lost opportunities”.
Holby’s executive producer Simon Harper, also said that his team originally didn’t think they could have two cancer stories running at the same time, but they later realised they should because statistically, the illness affects many people during their lifetime.
He described the story as “two most caring nurses now have to care for each other”.
Holby City airs Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC One.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Riverdale season three episode 13, titled Requiem.
Riverdale season three returned to the small screen tonight following a mid-season break and leapt straight back into the drama by delving into Glady Jones’s (played Gina Gershon) cunning plan to take over the town.
The mother of Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) used her powers of persuasion to convince Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) to betray her father’s trust, by spying on Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos).
She also rallied a number of Ghoulies converts, who formed their own Gargoyles gang, to join her son’s group, the Serpents, before Hiram got his paws on them.
While her deceptive scheme played out in episode 13, entitled Requiem, fans of the teen drama series shared theories about her end goal.
Many argued Gladys would steal the Serpents from her son and use her alliance with the gang and Veronica to control the town and continue her drug operation.
On Twitter, one fan wrote: “I already see the mess that will turn Riverdale. Gladys and Hiram will move the traffic in the city, with possible help from the Serpents. (I think Jughead will lose the lead to his mother) and Cannibals. And then the city will be saved by the teenagers.”
Another person tweeted: “My mum thinks Gladys will be in charge of Riverdale,” as a third said: “Oh no, Gladys is an evil manipulator.”
A fourth viewer added: “Gladys Jones is the new Hiram Lodge and I already hate her more.”
Someone else asked: “Is anyone surprised that Gladys is the villain? Because I’m not surprised that Gladys is the villain.”
Another contributor said: “Gladys got three Gargoyles to join the Serpents even Kurtz, but I’ve got a bad feeling about this!”
Fans of the show have reason to fear Gladys is up to no good, as she was very strategic about her affairs, using others’ needs and desires to benefit her own.
With Veronica having to pay her back for the drugs she destroyed, Gladys came up with a plan to lessen the teenager’s debt.
She encouraged Archie Andrew’s (KJ Apa) former girlfriend to update her on Hiram’s drug business, insisting it was a way the youngster could get him out of the corrupt industry once and for all.
When Veronica discovered Hiram was looking to use the Ghoulies to get his organisation up and running again she told Gladys.
After discussions with her informant, Gladys contacted the Ghoulies and persuaded them to join forces with her.
Later, Gladys suggested she control the streets, while Hiram tends to his prison – a deal Hiram agreed to when his daughter offered to help with the family business.
However, he refused to involve her mother Hermione (Marisol Nichols), as he believed she arranged for him to be shot during a family dinner.
Veronica is then ordered to pay him $ 75,000 when she confessed to burning his drugs and equipment.
Riverdale continues next Wednesday on The CW in the US and today on Netflix in the UK.

AS NAMES for market phenomena go, “inverted yield curve” lacks a certain punch. It is no “death cross” or “vomiting camel”. But what it lacks in panache, the inverted yield curve more than makes up for in predictive potency. Just before each of America’s most recent three recessions the yield curve for government bonds “inverted”, meaning that yields on long-term bonds fell below those on short-term bonds. Economists and stockmarkets seem unconcerned that inversion looms again (see chart). But despite generally strong economic data, there is reason to heed the warning signs flashing across bond markets.
There is nothing particularly magical about the yield curve’s predictive power. Short-term interest rates are overwhelmingly determined by changes in central banks’ overnight policy rates—for example, the federal funds rate in America, which has risen by 1.75 percentage points since December 2015. Long-term rates are less well-behaved. They reflect the average short-term rate over a bond’s lifetime…

A simple scan currently available at NHS opticians could identify the thousands of people at greater risk of developing the condition.
Experts hope targeting such people with drugs and lifestyle changes could slow or even stop the onset of dementia.
One of the world’s leading eye specialists used data from optical scans on 32,000 Britons aged 40 to 69 which measured the thickness of a layer of neurons on the retina.
Those with thin retinas were twice as likely to perform poorly in tests on everyday memory, reaction time and reasoning.
Researchers at University College London (UCL) and Moorfields Eye Hospital found that when tested again three years later these people were twice as likely to have suffered mental decline.
Separately, researchers in the Netherlands have published a paper building on the findings which show these changes can be tracked to predict full blown dementia a decade later.
Lead author Prof Paul Foster said: “The combination of the two studies showing the increased risk does put it beyond doubt.
“There is unquestionably a link between changes in the retina and changes in people’s mental state.”
The UCL research paper could revolutionise treatments of the devastating disease that affects 850,000 people in the UK.
This is expected to increase to a million sufferers by 2025.
