Need to catch up? Read our previous How to Get Away With Murder recap here.

Here’s something we’ve known since How to Get Away With Murder’s very first episode: You don’t want to mess with Michaela Pratt. (Need I remind you of her fabulously sassy, “Pay attention. You might learn something.” from the show’s pilot? She’s always been a boss.)

But a whole lot of Murder characters have made the mistake of breaking the don’t-cross-Michaela rule — including two gentlemen in Thursday’s episode. Meanwhile, someone in Annalise’s inner circle was put in grave peril. Let’s break down what happened in “I Hate the World”:

TAKE YOUR DAUGHTER TO WORK DAY | After lying to their classmates that they’re spending a weekend in the Poconos, Michaela and Gabriel head to New York City, where Michaela’s birth father, Solomon Vick, is giving the keynote lecture at a swanky conference. His talk is titled “Using Male Privilege to Invest in Female Power,” and even though his feminism comes off a bit misogynistic, the mostly female audience eats up everything he says. He’s also creating a $ 500 million fund to invest in women entrepreneurs, which gets another loud round of applause… but Michaela isn’t impressed.

The next day, during Solomon’s second panel at the conference, Michaela stands up in the audience for a little impromptu Q&A, asking Solomon if he holds himself accountable in his personal life as much as he does in his professional life. He assures Michaela that he does, and she asks if he’s ever slept with a client. After all, if he had, that would mean he takes advantage of vulnerable women, which would make his feminist message seem a little thin, no? Solomon adamantly denies that he’s ever done anything like that, but he keeps his eye on Michaela — who used the alias Laurel Castillo during their confrontation — even after she’s done talking.

HTGAWM Season 6Of course, Michaela didn’t just find Solomon to get mad at him in a public setting: She also wants to get some of his DNA for a paternity test. After unsuccessfully trying to swipe a glass he’d used at the hotel bar, Michaela later sneaks into Solomon’s room when housekeeping opens his door. She manages to snag some of his toiletries, like a comb and toothbrush — but Solomon comes back to the room before Michaela can leave. He catches her just as she’s trying to make a stealthy exit, then says, “I know you’re Michaela.” Michaela, completely stunned and speechless, simply bursts into tears and leaves the room without replying.

Later, Michaela pulls herself together and heads down to the bar, where Solomon is having a drink. When he offers her a seat, she has one request: “Only if I get to ask you whatever questions I want.” Solomon agrees, confessing that “I’ve been waiting for this day a long time.”

Throughout Michaela’s pursuit of her father, Gabriel offers consistent moral support — but when Michaela suggests breaking into Solomon’s hotel room at one point, Gabriel’s not into it. He’s annoyed that Michaela won’t just have a conversation with her father, considering they’re staying in the same hotel, when the only connection Gabriel can have with Sam is the sound of his voice on those tapes of Annalise’s therapy. He and Michaela exchange some harsh words (“Maybe this is why people leave you. Because you won’t listen to anybody but yourself,” Gabriel remarks), and she ultimately tells him to get out if he can’t support the way her journey with Solomon is unfolding.

But Gabriel has another pressing issue to address: Upon returning to Philly, he confronts Annalise with one of her therapy recordings, in which she’s discussing her recent breakup with Eve. Despite Annalise’s consistent argument that Sam manipulated her into a relationship, her voice on the recording says differently: “I met someone else. A man. He’s kind, caring, handsome — problem is, he’s my therapist.”

Elsewhere in the hour…

* Nate’s conversation with the FBI picks up where it left off last week: The agents will give him intel on his father’s murder if he’s willing to contribute to the Annalise investigation. They even tempt him with a job at the FBI if he helps them. (And “Special Agent Lahey” does have a nice ring to it.) But Nate refuses to assist with the Annalise sitch until his father’s case is closed — and after Bonnie swipes Tegan’s divorce papers from her desk, she gives them to Nate, who then gives them to the FBI. The divorce papers contain all of Tegan and Cora’s financial information, and surely the agents can find some connection that leads back to the Castillos.

As it turns out, Tegan’s money is linked to the Castillos; she owns stock in a company called Barrington Holdings, which apparently Laurel owns. Bonnie suggests that the company is merely in Laurel’s name, and it could mean nothing. But Nate counters that Tegan may have helped Laurel run away, and perhaps this stock — which is worth a whole lotta dough — is how Laurel paid her for her service. Later, Bonnie comes clean to Tegan about peeking at her divorce papers, and she doesn’t think Tegan should sign them. After all, her stock in Barrington Holdings has only become more valuable since separating from Cora, and why should Cora get half of those dividends when she doesn’t deserve them?

That’s when Tegan reveals — well, “reveals,” depending on whether you believe her or not — that Jorge Castillo gifted her that stock years ago, back when she worked at Caplan & Gold’s Mexico office. “I regret what I did to get it,” she sadly tells Bonnie. Later, Bonnie takes this intel back to Nate, who isn’t so easily convinced that Tegan’s a good guy. On the contrary, he thinks Tegan has figured out that Bonnie and Nate are digging into her, and she must have spun that story to cover her booty.

Bonnie is disappointed in Nate’s skepticism, and she’s even more heartbroken to realize he’s talking to the FBI. Nate tries to assure her the situation isn’t like that, but he’s interrupted by a knock at Bonnie’s door. When she opens it, a limp body slumps to the floor: It’s a very bloody Frank, and he looks very close to death.

* Annalise goes on an ice cream date with Robert, a lawyer who assisted with Caplan & Gold’s latest case. She’s suspicious that he works for the FBI, but Robert insists that he’s spending time with Annalise because he’s genuinely interested in her. What’s more, she shares some of her most damning secrets — the alcoholism, the accusations of killing Sam, etc. — and he doesn’t seem alarmed by them. Granted, Robert doesn’t want to fix Annalise, and he won’t chase after her, but he’s excited to spend more time with her, if she wants that.

* Oliver and Connor have a ssssteamy threesome with someone they meet on a dating app. Asher, on the other hand, is excited to match with a gorgeous supermodel on the same app… only to discover he’s been catfished by his own sister, who arrives in Philadelphia wanting to talk.

* In this week’s (brief) flash forward, the FBI agents call for a medic after Connor collapses to the floor, and Michaela — who’s dressed in her graduation gown — pounds on the wall connecting her room with Connor’s, frantically asking if he’s OK. Girl, that’s a hard no.

‘The Saint’ Remake on the Way, Chris Pratt in Talks to Play the Master of Disguise https://briefnews.eu/the-saint-remake-on-the-way-chris-pratt-in-talks-to-play-the-master-of-disguise/ https://briefnews.eu/the-saint-remake-on-the-way-chris-pratt-in-talks-to-play-the-master-of-disguise/#respond Fri, 16 Nov 2018 21:48:53 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-saint-remake-on-the-way-chris-pratt-in-talks-to-play-the-master-of-disguise/ the saint remake

Before he became James Bond, Roger Moore graced the small screen as The Saint, aka Simon Templar, a thief and master of disguise who originated in a series of books in the 1920s and quickly expanded into the world of radio, comics, TV, and movies. Val Kilmer played the character in a film in 1997, and now, more than twenty years later, it looks like Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt will be the newest actor to get buried under loads of makeup and don a fake mustache as “the Robin Hood of modern crime.”

Deadline reports that Pratt is in early talks to star in The Saint remake from Paramount Pictures. Paramount has been planning this for a little while, and they’re always in need of a new successful film franchise – especially since their deal with Bad Robot and producer J.J. Abrams is going to expire soon. This has the potential to be a big deal for them.

The Saint originated in a series of books written by author Leslie Charteris, where he started as a British Robin Hood-type figure who specialized as a thief and a con man, eventually evolved into secret agent during World War II, and later became more of an all-purpose adventurer. The character’s calling card is a stick figure with an angelic halo, which he’d leave at the scene of all of his “crimes” (he’d often rob corrupt politicians and evil rich people to help those less fortunate).

I’m not convinced Pratt is the right fit for this character. The Saint requires someone who can convincingly disappear into multiple personas, and so far, Pratt has mostly focused on two types throughout his career: the lovable doofus (example: Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation) or the Han Solo-style rogue (examples: Star-Lord from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Owen Grady from the Jurassic World franchise).

But hey, maybe he’ll surprise me. Check out this trailer for the ’97 movie starring Val Kilmer and try to picture Pratt pulling this off:

Lorenzo di Bonaventura is attached to produce the new movie, but no writer or director is on board yet. Cue the hiring of Paramount’s go-to guy Akiva Goldsman to write this in 3, 2, 1…

I’m more luvvie than rock star, says Pink Floyd bassist Guy Pratt https://briefnews.eu/im-more-luvvie-than-rock-star-says-pink-floyd-bassist-guy-pratt/ https://briefnews.eu/im-more-luvvie-than-rock-star-says-pink-floyd-bassist-guy-pratt/#respond Sun, 06 Aug 2017 01:04:44 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/im-more-luvvie-than-rock-star-says-pink-floyd-bassist-guy-pratt/

His father was actor and composer Mike Pratt and Guy spent his childhood visiting Elstree Studios where his father appeared in TV dramas, including starring as Jeff Randall in Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased).

His impeccable show-business pedigree and ebullient puppy-like personality mean audiences at Pratt’s Edinburgh Fringe show about his life – Inglourious Basstard – are in for 55 minutes of a very good time. In 30 years of talking to celebrities, Pratt is the singularly most entertaining man I’ve spoken to.

It must have been difficult for him to stand on stage behind a rock god and merge into the background, although he insists that as a studio session and onstage player he’s only there to serve. “My job is to do something for other people to make your song right,” he says. “When I write music myself, I often forget to put the bass part in as that’s something I normally do for other artists; you turn up at their session and you’re making their day and maybe making something they’ve never heard before.

“But I’ve always been more show-business luvvie than rock star, and sometimes you do think ‘Where’s my share? Where’s Leo Bloom’s share?’,” he laughs, referring to the shyster Broadway agent in The Producers.

Coming out from behind the bass happened when Pratt published his drily hilarious memoir My Bass And Other Animals a decade ago. He took his one-man show about being shouted at by Madonna (“TIME IS MONEY, AND THE MONEY IS MINE!” she yelled in the studio), supporting David Bowie, not touring with The Smiths and having to pretend Michael Jackson wasn’t in the studio whilst playing on Earth Song, then he went back on the road where he’s happily been ever since.

He’s a complete natural and the super-stylish 1960s figures he grew up with have obviously influenced him; he talks about his parents with love and enthusiasm.

“When my mum met my dad she was typing scripts; she was also working in the wardrobe department at the Mermaid Theatre. One of my earliest memories was poking around in there when Mike d’Abo was starring in Gulliver’s Travels.

“I think my parents met when they used to go to parties in Soho. Dad use to live in this weird, surreal, squat in Waterloo called The Yellow Door. It was the last house standing as everything else had been bombed. He lived there with Lionel Bart and they hooked up with Tommy Steele and wrote the first British rock ’n’ roll song (Rock With The Caveman). Everyone was at that house – Colin Wilson, Joan Littlewood, Jeffrey Bernard.”

Guy often went to Elstree to see his father on the set of one of Lew Grade’s ITV series. “He was in all those classic series and doing all of them at the same time. He did a really good Russian accent, so he’d be the KGB guy and Bert Kwouk was his Chinese counterpart. They were good mates. The only thing that ever got to Dad about these shows was a scene where he had to fight Roger Moore in the sea. Dad looked awful but the make-up artist kept coming up to make sure Roger didn’t have a hair out of place.

“I think Dad was in The Saint about 10 times and he usually died. I remember thinking ‘Doesn’t anybody recognise him? This is the third time Roger has killed him this season’. I loved The Saint and my parents took me to Elstree to meet Roger Moore. He sat at our table and my mum said, ‘Do you know who this is?’ I replied ‘No!’, because he’d killed my Dad the previous week.”

Guy has also been an actor, appearing in the TV series Linda Green and the film Still Crazy, written by his friends Dick Clement and Ian LaFrenais, which was about a rock band of a certain age getting back together.

“I was the bass player in the band, wrote music for it and had to show Jimmy Nail how to play bass. I was the Nail wrangler on that!” Guy was married to Gala, the daughter of Pink Floyd keyboard player Rick Wright, and LaFrenais told Guy that a wedding scene in Still Crazy was based on Guy and Gala’s very rock and roll wedding: “All the first wives in hats and the new ones in Prada, with a baby,” observed LaFrenais, slyly but correctly.

Pratt’s show-business stories are endlessly entertaining but he’s aware that they come from a bygone age, even his own ones about playing with big stars. “I was thinking of knocking the live shows on the head as I realised that they were a historical thing about a world that’s gone. There is no music industry, it’s just a wing of show-business now.

“Last time I did the show, I apologised and said I’d just come back from a year’s tour with David Gilmour and nothing funny happens when you’re that age. The highlight is that you go, ‘Ooh, the hotel’s got a spa and it does a lovely buffet breakfast’. Then I found out I’d done 20 minutes of talking about how nothing happened but the stories of rock and roll – the Champneys and towelling dressing gown years – were still funny.”

After the Edinburgh show, on which he’s been working with his friend Kate Robbins (“Cut us and we both bleed show-business”), Pratt’s going to be working on his novel, his TV project about Soho in the 1950s, and his screenplay about a middle-aged bass player doing masterclasses in Italy, accompanied by a keen young rep from his amplifier company, based on real life and in which he hopes to star. “We’ve got everything in place apart from the money!” he laughs.

If it’s as entertaining as an hour with Mr Pratt, investors would be foolish not to shower him with cash.

The show is at Frankenstein’s, Edinburgh, from August 14 – 27 at 5pm. Tickets: edfringe. com/whats-on/inglourious-basstard

Chris Pratt Gives A ‘Cowboy Ninja Viking’ Update https://briefnews.eu/chris-pratt-gives-a-cowboy-ninja-viking-update/ https://briefnews.eu/chris-pratt-gives-a-cowboy-ninja-viking-update/#respond Sat, 29 Apr 2017 13:11:54 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/chris-pratt-gives-a-cowboy-ninja-viking-update/ Cowboy Ninja Viking movie

For almost three years now, Chris Pratt has been attached to star in Cowboy Ninja Viking.  Pratt is still set to play Duncan, a hero with the personalities and powers of a Cowboy, Ninja, and Viking, given to him by a bizarre government experiment. According to Pratt, the Cowboy Ninja Viking movie, based on A.J. Lieberman and Riley Rossmo‘s graphic novel, is still in active development.

Below, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star provides an update on Universal’s Cowboy Ninja Viking movie.

Pratt told Collider they’re currently talking to directors about the project. He has high hopes for the comic book adaptation:

It’s still in development. It’s definitely no joke. We’ve got a deal and we’re moving forward. It’s going to be [with] Universal. It’s going to be really, really fantastic … We don’t have a director. It’s together, it’s being put together. But we’re in the process of talking to directors.

Two years ago, he met with John Wick helmers David Leitch and Chad Stahelski for Cowboy Ninja Viking. They were reportedly offered the job and entered early talks, but sadly, nothing more ever came of that news. Before Pratt was involved Marc Forster was going to make the high-concept action movie, but the Stranger than Fiction and World War Z director, who hasn’t had the best luck with big-budget spectacle, eventually left the project.

Cowboy Ninja Viking was originally set up at Disney. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick‘s (Deadpool) script, however, was deemed too edgy for the studio. The story follows Duncan, who has a multiple personality disorder, as he’s turned into a “triplet” after participating in a secret government program. He becomes a deadly super soldier, but he’s not the only triplet in the world. Duncan sounds like the kind of role (or roles) well suited for Pratt’s charisma and physicality.

Here’s more information on the comic:

Duncan is the result of a secret government program to create soldiers for the war on terror. This experimental regimen conscripts people suffering from multiple personality disorder and turns them into “triplets,” highly lethal operatives possessing three distinct personalities drawing from warrior/tough guy archetypes. Duncan serves as the reader’s entry point into a complex web of espionage and violence that grows more intriguing as we are let in on exactly what’s up with Duncan, the people who want to drag him back into the fold, and the rest of the triplets that remain at large.

Guardians Chris Pratt bluntly explains everything WRONG with Suicide Squad https://briefnews.eu/guardians-chris-pratt-bluntly-explains-everything-wrong-with-suicide-squad/ https://briefnews.eu/guardians-chris-pratt-bluntly-explains-everything-wrong-with-suicide-squad/#respond Tue, 25 Apr 2017 14:07:31 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/guardians-chris-pratt-bluntly-explains-everything-wrong-with-suicide-squad/

His character Star-Lord isn’t always the most tactful and now Pratt has followed suit.

The Marvel actor revealed his critical thoughts about DC’s recent Suicide Squad, which faced considerable criticism from fans and critics.

Pratt is currently riding high as Guardians of the Galaxy 2 prepares to open in cinemas this friday with rave advance reviews.

By contract, Suicide Squad generated enormous advance hype before being hit with a barrage of criticism.

Pratt pointed out that Marvel gave characters like Thor, Iron Man and Captain America their own genesis story films before uniting them as a group on screen.

He told io9: “It’s really f***ing hard to do and it’s kind of a miracle that anyone’s got it right. You know?

“So. I think it comes down to Kevin [Feige], his filmmakers, and ultimately, me, playing Star-Lord.”

He omitted to mention that none of his own Guardians had been seen in individual outings before their first movie.

However he was at pains to point out his love for his DC rival franchises.

Pratt said: “I really like all the Warner Bros. movies. I think they’re really cool and I’m not a real tough critic on those movies.”

Chris Pratt Says the Guardians Play a Key Role in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ https://briefnews.eu/chris-pratt-says-the-guardians-play-a-key-role-in-avengers-infinity-war/ https://briefnews.eu/chris-pratt-says-the-guardians-play-a-key-role-in-avengers-infinity-war/#respond Sat, 22 Apr 2017 10:07:09 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/chris-pratt-says-the-guardians-play-a-key-role-in-avengers-infinity-war/ guardians in infinity war

One of my biggest fears about Avengers: Infinity War is that the film might be too big for its own good. With so many moving parts in Marvel Studios’ biggest movie yet, there’s a real danger of many of the characters we love getting lost in the shuffle and ending up without much to do.

But when I spoke with actor Chris Pratt yesterday during the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 junket in West Hollywood, I asked him about Infinity War and his comments about the Guardians’ involvement assuaged some of my fears.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 trailer breakdown

The Conversation

My full interview with Pratt will be timed to Vol. 2’s release in a couple of weeks, but I wanted to share this exchange that I thought would be of particular interest to Marvel fans looking forward to the Russo brothers’ massive team-up movie. Here it is:

You’ve played Peter Quill twice in films written by James Gunn, but Infinity War is the first time you play him where you’re not working from James’s script. What’s the difference between how James writes your character and how [Stephen] Markus and [Christopher] McFeely have written him?

The end result is exactly the same because no matter who’s writing it, there’s a process of making it authentic to myself that every bit of dialogue and action is going to have to go through. With James, it’s innate. He writes dialogue that I would improv. And when I say ‘improv,’ I don’t just mean ‘joke.’ I mean taking ownership of the role, colloquializing, making stuff my own. Making it mine. I always make it mine. Even when it’s James’s, and I’m saying exactly what he’s written, I’m making it mine. So, at the end of the day, the result is exactly the same – it’s just a slightly different way of getting there.

I just heard some news from this marketing guy who’s seen some stuff cut together from Infinity War and he’s over the fucking moon. He says our shit is – he’s so pumped about it. We are not small parts, but we’re supporting, and in that way, our job…

“We” being the Guardians?

Yeah, I mean the Guardians. The Guardians that are in the movie. We have great stuff that we’re doing in it. It’s really fun. It’s very, very Guardians. It’s our tone, it’s our voices. And I felt like on the day, although it was the Russo brothers directing, James is executive producing. He and Kevin [Feige] are having a conversation, and there were zero egos involved, it felt like.”

Was James on the set with you guys?

He wasn’t there on the set, but his spirit was all over it. James and I have a shorthand when we’re working together, and he has a similar relationship with every actor that he works with, and in a way, I felt like as Quill, I had a little bit more responsibility on set to take care of my Guardians while I was there. So in many ways, I was… [he trails off]

Sort of the voice behind the voice?

[Nodding] I was a little bit the voice. And I don’t mean that in any [negative] way – the Russos are fucking awesome, and everyone there is collaborating to make the best thing we can. We had all hands on deck to just make it awesome.

What Could This Mean?

That certainly sounds like the Guardians will have a key role in the new movie, and that even though Gunn isn’t involved on a script level, the film will retain the same tone fans know and love. Pratt’s comments align with statements from fellow Guardian Dave Bautista, who hyped the team’s unity and strength in Infinity War yesterday.

infinity war concept art rocket and thor

But did you catch the part when Pratt clarified that he meant “the Guardians who are in the movie” in one of his answers? Does that mean there are some Guardian team members who aren’t in Infinity War? And if that’s the case, would that mean those characters are sitting out the battle with Thanos altogether (maybe even because they don’t survive long enough to get there?), or that they simply might not be showing up until the still-untitled Infinity War sequel? It’s a good bet that Rocket Raccoon will be fighting the Mad Titan, since he made an appearance in a piece of Infinity War concept art opposite Thor (above). But what about the other team members?

Now that I think about it, Pratt’s comments don’t make me feel better after all! He’s got me worried about the future of some of my favorite Marvel characters, and since Thanos has essentially been a sleeping beast for the past few years, you know that big purple guy is going to come out swinging in Infinity War in a big way. Feige has teased Thanos’s introduction in the movie before:

Thanos shows us why he’s the biggest, the best, the baddest villain that we’ve ever had. And the most frightening villain that the Avengers have ever faced.

Frankly, that doesn’t sound great for our heroes. So while I’m excited the Guardians won’t blend into the background, now I’m wondering if some of them don’t even make it to the war in the first place.
