NBC’s popular retail comedy Superstore came to an end this month with a sweet and satisfying series finale. Viewers had hoped a proposed spin-off centred on Cloud 9 supervisor Cheyenne Lee (played by Nichole Sakura) and her husband, Bo Thompson (Johnny Pemberton), would continue the story, but the network has sadly pulled the plug on the new series.

A proposed Superstore spin-off starring Nichole Sakura and Johnny Pemberton’s husband and wife pairing Cheyenne and Bo has just been axed by NBC.

The couple have been a mainstay of the series since they got engaged in the very first episode of the successful work based comedy.

Producers Bridget Kyle and Vicky Luu would have helmed the Superstore follow-up, which would follow the pair as they try to “balance their big dreams with the harsh realities of being a blue-collar family in America.”

Sadly, despite a surge in popularity during the pandemic, it appears Cloud 9 will be closing its doors for good after this week’s finale.

Nichole Sakura said of the proposed series: “I’ve gotten to read the pilot script, and it’s really funny.

“So hopefully we’ll get made and can bring back some of the ‘Superstore’ cast to pop into that and still be part of this same world. I’m just remaining hopeful, but stay tuned.”

Unfortunately, the pilot will remain unproduced, as Kyle confirmed to cleveland.com last Friday.

She said: “Unfortunately, yesterday NBC notified us that they’re not going forward with the ‘Superstore’ spin-off.”

And another wrote: “Hopefully there’ll be some sort of spinoff or another show. There’s a big cast, lots of potential ideas. Just carry on at the fulfilment centre, or Glenn’s new store.”

However, others admitted Cheyenne and Bo wouldn’t have been their first choice of characters to feature in their own series.

A third viewer said: “I like Cheyenne but she isn’t a leading character in my opinion, and Bo shouldn’t ever be a main character appearing in every episode.”

Still, Cheyenne’s former Cloud 9 colleagues were expected to make cameo appearances, and no doubt a roster of new supporting characters would have balanced out the cast.

After recently being made available on Netflix, Superstore came to an end after six seasons on NBC last Thursday.

In the bittersweet series finale, conglomerate company Zephra puts the teams’ jobs at risk after turning their store into a fulfilment centre.

Fans also got to see a touching reunion between Amy Sosa (America Ferrera) and ex-boyfriend Jonah Simms (Ben Feldman) after Amy departed for California at the start of this season.

Superstore seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Netflix.

PROPONENTS OF sovereign-wealth funds like to say that returns from publicly owned assets could in theory displace taxes. You might just be looking at some of the Alexa-powered devices due to show at Amazon’s rumored hardware event this month. Pocket-lint has spotted listings (since pulled) for the Echo Sub wireless subwoofer (above) and Smart Plug (below), both of which see Amazon venturing into unfamiliar territory. The Sub adds 100W of bass to an Echo or Echo Plus setup, whether it’s one speaker or two — yes, stereo pairing would also be new. It reportedly cost £75 (about $ 99) when it shipped on October 11th, which might be a small price to pay if your rap or trance isn’t sufficiently room-shaking.

The Smart Plug, meanwhile, is fairly self-explanatory: it’s a wall wart that brings basic Alexa voice control to any device, no smart home hub required. You could turn off a light or power up the coffee machine without having to upgrade either of them. There’s room for skepticism over the price, however. While Amazon listed the same October 11th release date, it also gave the Smart Plug a staggering £95 ($ 125) price. That’s far pricier than existing smart plugs, and there’s nothing to indicate that Amazon’s device is particularly special beyond the Alexa link. This may be a placeholder price rather than the exact amount you’ll pay.

The devices called metaboards can also be used on smartphones, computers, kettles, toasters and televisions through a single unit on a table, desk or wall.

And the revolutionary technology could also be used in hospitals and charge electric cars and drones.

Metaboards relies on the rearrangement of atoms into new patterns to power devices remotely.

It is predicted to show a vast improvement on existing wireless charging which is used on smartphones.

Current devices need to be drilled into tables and rely on perfect alignment.

The technology uses “metamaterials”, which are compounds such as plastic or metals arranged in geometric structures not found in nature to create new properties.

By doing this an electrical current can be channelled through the boards which passes to any non-metallic electronic device placed on its surface.

Nedko Ivanov, chief executive of Oxford-based Metaboards, whose previous business was bought by Google, explained: “If we take a piece of metal, let’s say gold. The electromagnetic properties of this demand two things, the atoms and the pattern in which they are arranged.

“For metamaterials we try to create a pattern of atoms to give us electromagnetic properties not found in nature.

“This is very difficult because when you re-arrange atoms into unnatural patterns they do crazy things, but by taming them they allow you to do amazing things.”

Father-of-four Mr Ivanov, 48, who is originally from Bulgaria but has lived in the UK with his family since 2002 said: “Wireless power is a problem that needs to be solved, as current solutions really do not work.

“We are working on both solutions in parallel and we have customers interested in both. So it will depend on who is ready to go to the market first that we will go with.”

Metaboards has created a working prototype which is set to be demonstrated at an exhibition in Las Vegas in January and could be on the market later next year.

The company was started with seed funding in 2016, but launched properly 18 months ago with an investment of £3.5million.

Airport passengers travelling through on holiday have been caught out by bored pranksters.

Travellers seeking somewhere to charge their gadgets would have been pleased to spot a free outlet, as many are often taken by other travellers.

However, on closer inspection. they are fake and are instead stickers showing a plug socket.

People who have been tricked when trying to plug their chargers in have expressed their hatred and embarrassment.

One Twitter user who was caught by the prank tweeted: “Whoever put up this fake sticker of an open outlet at the airport, you are now my enemy for life.”

The tweet, which has over 183,000 retweets, enraged other passengers who expressed their sympathy.

A user wrote: “Why would someone do that?!” A reply to his question was: “Some people are just mean.”

Some decided to be pedantic about the tweet: “That’s not a fake sticker. It is a very real sticker of a fake open outlet.”

Others were angry at the person tweeting for trying to take up both outlets.

One remarked: “But also why didn’t you even try to use the lower one so someone else can use the upper one if it was real.”

Another user wrote: “Karma too… for you trying to plug that into the top outlet and block the lower one.”

Others stuck up for the man, saying he obviously tried the bottom one first and it was just for the sake of the photograph.

Some stickers were even placed on rubbish bins and high up on walls with others admitting to being caught out.

Images revealed stickers scratched in rage at the fake sockets after falling victim to the prank.

It isn’t the first time this has caught passengers out, as a viral video emerged last year of people being caught out.

A young woman walked over with her plug and tried to put it into the socket, only to feel the sticker and realise it didn’t have the correct holes.

Many loved the prank with one person nothing: “This is so cruelly amusing. I love it.”

The person filming later explained that the woman caught out in the video “didn’t find it amusing” when she knew he was the culprit.

People wanting to catch them out can buy the stickers easily online for less than £10.

Plug Me is a platformer with a strict timer on it, forcing players to navigate its cute world in a hurry if they wish to keep the city of Plug Me from tumbling down from the skies. However, the timer they’re trying to stay ahead of is also a physical object in the world that the players will need in order to hop over obstacles or make certain jumps, so players will really need to make sure their timing is down if they hope to succeed.

Plug Me presents players with a variety of stages to jump through, dodging spiked traps, pits, and other troublemakers who make life difficult for Plugman. While leaping around will be key to surviving all of these, the player will need to be mindful of the physical timer that runs through each level. Once this bar runs out, the player will lose, but the bar might also be covering up spikes, be in the way of certain jumping areas, or be needed in order to clear a spot with a leap. This means that players will need to keep a close eye on it in order to see if it is in the right place when you need it, out of the way when you don’t, or whether it’s draining too fast to win.

Plug Me‘s developers did realize they might be putting players through a lot in having to survive when even the timer is against them, so there are some mechanics that will keep players from losing their temper after repeat losses. The game will let players remove a single obstacle with the help of Evinrude should they die too much, and if they die a whole lot, the game will also slow down how fast the timer drains in order to keep play fair for players who might otherwise be getting mad.

So, if you can make good use of your time, Plug Me might be the puzzle game for you.
