Executive producer Dick Wolf has revealed that he’s in the very early stages of plotting a rare inter-network crossover between his CBS and NBC dramas, according to our sister site Variety. Wolf has not yet decided whether the potential crossover will involve FBI or its forthcoming spinoff, FBI: Most Wanted. The show that is ultimately chosen will likely cross paths with NBC’s Chicago P.D. or Law & Order: SVU.
Wolf first announced the potential crossover during an appearance at Monte Carlo TV Festival on Saturday. While he said that both CBS and NBC are open to the idea, it has yet to be confirmed by either network.
Technically, this wouldn’t be the first time that one of Wolf’s shows crossed over with a show on another network. SVU‘s Det. John Munch appeared in a Season 5 episode of HBO’s The Wire — though it’d be unfair to categorize it as a full-fledged crossover.
SVU and #OneChicago’s shared universe was established during a Season 16 episode of SVU, when Chicago P.D.‘s Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and Detectives Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) and Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) worked a case with Sergeant Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay).
Are you intrigued by the prospect of a cross-network crossover? And assuming FBI is chosen to make the jump, would you prefer to see Agent Maggie Bell cross paths with P.D.‘s Intelligence or the SVU squad? Take our poll, then hit the comments to back up your choice.

Payday won’t be the same next year for the soccer players of Gibraltar United, a team in the premier division of the sport’s league in the British overseas territory. Only a part of their salary will hit their bank accounts, and the rest will come to them in the form of cryptocurrencies. But the soccer team is no outlier there. Nor is Gibraltar unique — it’s among a growing set of tiny territories betting on cryptocurrencies as economic weapons of the future.
Larger economies have approached cryptocurrencies with waves of regulation. South Korea, the largest market for cryptocurrency trading, has since last September banned initial coin offerings (ICOs) — crowdfunding initiatives to raise money for new cryptocurrencies. Japan, home to the most cryptocurrency exchanges, is now planning to apply laws for traditional stock exchanges on them. Regulators in the U.S. and India are discouraging trading in cryptocurrencies while they explore legislative frameworks. This is opening up economic space that smaller nations are looking to fill, by welcoming investments in cryptocurrencies, launching their own sovereign ones and steering clear of heavy-handed regulations. Success could transform them into cryptocurrency tax havens and safe spaces, and models for smaller economies of the future.
Bermuda, through a new law that came into effect in July, is facilitating the fast approval of ICOs. The Marshall Islands in May became the first country to launch a sovereign cryptocurrency, called the SOV. The self-proclaimed nation of Liberland, an island on the Danube river squeezed between Croatia and Serbia, plans to offer its own cryptocurrency publicly this coming spring. In the Pacific, PayPal founder Peter Thiel is among a set of investors propping up a plan for an independent floating island that will run on its own virtual currency. Cryptocurrencies have come out of the shadows, and onto the map.
The Maltese government [has] created a strong framework which can … give [cryptocurrency firms] peace of mind.
Ivan Borg, organizer, Malta Blockchain Summit
Liechtenstein’s Crown Prince Alois is personally encouraging cryptocurrency investors to come to his country. He has stated that he plans to invest some of his family’s wealth in digital currencies. This summer, Gibraltar launched a blockchain exchange that allows anyone to enter the crypto-marketplace by trading traditional or “fiat” currency for cryptocurrencies. And in July, Malta became the world’s first nation to establish a full-fledged legal framework to facilitate investments in blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.
“The Maltese government [has] created a strong framework which can accommodate blockchain and cryptocurrency companies looking to operate somewhere which will give them peace of mind,” says Ivan Borg, an organizer of the government-sponsored Malta Blockchain Summit scheduled for November, which is expected to be attended by more than 5,000 delegates.
It’s a strategy that appears to be working. Binance, the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency exchange, has moved from China, where it was founded in 2017, to Malta, where it is creating a blockchain-based bank called the Founders Bank. Yanislav Malahov, one of the creators of Ethereum — the second-most popular cryptocurrency after bitcoin — has chosen Liechtenstein as his base to build a new blockchain called Aeternity. And companies like remittance firm eXlama decided to set up shop in Gibraltar, because it was “one of the first” territories to “answer to the demand” for a legal framework for blockchain, cryptocurrencies and ICOs, says the organization’s founder and CEO Pavel Kaprisek.
For sure, these countries and territories are also exposing themselves to the vulnerabilities of virtual currencies and their trading. Cryptocurrencies are notorious for pump-and-dump schemes, hacking thefts — a South Korean exchange lost $ 40 million in coins after a hack in June — pyramid schemes and fraud. Low regulatory standards could allow the use of cryptocurrencies to fund crimes. Virtual currencies also suffer from instability. Bitcoin’s price has crashed to around $ 6,000 from over $ 20,000 in 2017.
But for some nations and territories, these risks are worth it. Liberland is competing for crypto and blockchain businesses with other European nations hoping to become the gold standard in creating a decentralized business environment.Because it’s currently an unrecognized country, Liberland can build its laws and regulations from scratch around cryptocurrencies. “Malta and Gibraltar are our closest European competitors in terms of attracting ICOs,” says Liberland President Vit Jedlicka.Across the Atlantic too, the lure of crypto-based economies is beginning to take hold.
The Marshall Islands, despite its independence from the U.S. in 1986, remains economically tied to America. The U.S. dollar is still its principal currency. The SOV, which will supplement the dollar, offers it a chance to slowly reduce its dependence on America. People on the islands can now pay for everything — from taxes to groceries — in the SOV. For new entities like the Floating Island Project, a cryptocurrency promises an entry into the global economy from birth.
To Liechtenstein and Bermuda, tax havens for traditional businesses, the move to cryptocurrencies represents an investment in the future. If virtual currencies increasingly replace traditional ones, they’ll be ready as the tax havens for these new coins. And for Gibraltar and Malta, the move marks a bet aimed at leapfrogging from small economies to major financial hubs by connecting crypto companies with a global customer base.
Gibraltar has a friendly tax system similar to Switzerland’s but is cheaper. Kaprisek says it’s also easier to understand Gibraltar’s British legal system as an entrepreneur without a background in international law. Malta is showcasing its own advantages as a cryptocurrency investment destination. As a member of the European Union, it offers access to a giant market, while its domestic framework shields firms based there from the EU’s tougher regulations. “The English-speaking population, attractive weather and leisure opportunities make Malta a tempting place to settle,” says Borg.
The November summit is an unabashed attempt by Malta to draw more blockchain and cryptocurrency investments from abroad. On the event’s website, the country’s prime minister, Joseph Muscat, invites attendees by saying that he wants Malta to be at the “front line in embracing” these technologies. “We must be the ones that others copy,” he says. At the moment, that’s a bold statement for the leader of a country with a population smaller than Wyoming’s. Malta and its fellow tiny crypto nations are counting on it sounding prophetic, two decades from now.

The former pilot is now suspected of plotting a coup and a terrorist attack.

Savchenko was arrested by Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) officers right in the building of the Verkhovnaya Rada (the Ukrainian parliament) on Thursday. Moments before that, the MPs stripped Savchenko of her legal immunity that allows Ukrainian MPs to enjoy protection from prosecution and agreed to her arrest.
The lawmakers were shown a video obtained by the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office that allegedly shows Savchenko discussing details of a coup plot with her accomplices. According to the video, the MP even planned to assassinate Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. She is suspected of plotting a terrorist attack, planning to kill members of parliament, government, and the president, and organizing a coup.
Savchenko’s sister, Vera, said she expects Ukraine’s international “partners” and particularly the US to react to her sister’s arrest. “I would like to look at the reaction of those people, who fought for her [Nadezhda Savchenko], of the US representatives… I would like to see the reaction of these people to the actions of our corrupt authorities,” she told journalists, adding that the US strongly warned against corruption in Ukraine, yet nothing was done.

Savchenko first rose to prominence both in Ukraine and in the West after she was arrested in Russia on charges of being an accessory to the murder of two Russian journalists who were killed by mortar shelling while reporting on the Ukrainian conflict. Russian law enforcement said she served as a target spotter for the mortar crew and deliberately had them target non-combatants.
Following her arrest in Russia, Savchenko was immediately declared a hero of Ukraine. She was elected as an MP in absentia, appointed a member of Ukraine’s delegation to PACE and made into a symbol of struggle against Russia at a time when she was tried and actually sentenced to 22 years in prison for the crime. The Western media also portrayed her as a heroic figure persecuted by Moscow.
Savchenko was pardoned by Russian President Vladimir Putin and returned to Ukraine in May 2016.
But things changed for the former hero after she become a fierce critic of President Petro Poroshenko, talked about running for president, and acted on her own in an effort to make a deal with self-proclaimed independent republics in the East. She then quickly alienated many Ukrainian politicians.
Surrealism and grenades
On Thursday, Savchenko came to the hearing of her case in the parliament with two grenades. She admitted that she helped smuggle weapons from Donbass and said that a coup is the “the most humane way of changing the power.” She claimed that “only a lazy person now does not” speak or think about “taking down that government” or “blowing up” the president’s administration or the parliament. Yet, Savchenko called her actions “surrealism and political provocation,” and she didn’t actually intend to carry out the plan.

Savchenko’s confrontation with authorities snowballed over the last week. The prosecutors initially wanted to question Savchenko over alleged links to a man named Vladimir Ruban, who was earlier arrested while trying to smuggle a large cache of weapons from the rebel-controlled part of eastern Ukraine into territory that remains under Kiev’s control. The Ukrainian authorities claim that Ruban was also planning an armed coup in Kiev.
Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko requested that the Verkhovna Rada strip Savchenko of legal immunity last week after she failed to show up for a scheduled questioning. Earlier, the MP accused Lutsenko of covering up his involvement in the deadly 2014 Maidan shooting, which was one of the factors that eventually prompted the Maidan coup. She also accused several Ukrainian MPs of leading the snipers to the Hotel Ukraine, from which shots were later fired at people on the streets, thus implying that the 2014 mass killings might in fact have been initiated by the protester side.

Police say he was inspired by jihadist terrorists and associated with a local “extremist community.”
The man was rounded up during a special operation by police conducted at around 3 pm Monday local time [4 am GMT] in Werribee, some 32 kilometers southwest of Melbourne, where he lived with his Somali parents, police reported.
The suspect, who was born and raised in Australia, was handed over by police to a joint counter-terrorism team for interrogation.
“He was engaged in acting preparation for a terrorist offense and also collecting materials, documents to facilitate a terrorist act,” Victoria Police deputy commissioner Shane Patton told the media, speaking on the essence of the charges.

“What we will be alleging is that he was intending to use a firearm to shoot and kill as many people as he could in a Federation Square area on New Year’s Eve,” Patton said.
To this end, the man allegedly attempted to illegally obtain an automatic firearm and planned to follow Al-Qaeda manuals on how to commit a terrorist attack, The Age reports, citing Patton.
As he was about to buy a handgun, the man was swooped on by police.
The carnage was supposed to unravel at the Federation Square in downtown Melbourne, which is usually flooded with tens of thousands of people on December 31, celebrating the arrival of a new year.
The suspect reportedly drew inspiration from terrorist attacks carried out by other Islamist fanatics all over the globe, with police saying that the man “would become particularly energized” when such attacks were mounted.
Describing the possible consequences of the foiled plot as “catastrophic,” Patton noted that the man does not appear to have any accomplices and police do not believe there is an acute threat to the community.

Patton revealed that police had been watching the man “for a very lengthy period of time” before the raid, for about a year. Police also searched his family’s home in Werribee, while about a dozen police officers raided a computer store where the man was working for a couple hours a day to gain a working experience.
The owner of the store described the youngster as a “very quiet boy” whose father he met at a local mosque.
The family, meanwhile, seems to be in disbelief about the charges levelled at the 20-year-old, with his father saying on Tuesday that he believes his son has done nothing wrong.
“He’s very innocent,” he insisted.
It’s not clear how the man was indoctrinated, with police not linking him to any particular mosque. While assuring the public that “there was never any point in which there was a significant risk” emanating from the aspiring terrorist, Patton admitted that there is a net of extremists anchored in the province.
“He is associated with other persons in the Victorian extremists community … it is a very small community of extremists,” he said.
Since the country’s terrorism threat level was upped in 2014, the police launched some 347 counter-terrorism probes, charging a total of 74 people with terrorism-related offences.
In the run-up to Christmas celebrations last year, Australian police reported that it had foiled a “very substantial terrorist plot” in Melbourne, with Federation Square was also being named as one of the prime targets. The perpetrators reportedly wanted to use explosives and other weapons on the city’s most important landmarks, including St Paul’s Cathedral and Federation Square.
As recent as in September, the country’s top counter-terrorism chief, assistant commissioner for counter-terrorism in New South Wales Mark Murdoch, now retired, said that despite all the efforts by the law enforcement and intelligence a major terrorist attack is “inevitable” on Australian soil.

Turkey’s Embassy in the US has dismissed recent media reports of Ankara allegedly conspiring with former US National Security Adviser Michael Flynn to “seize” the elusive cleric Fethullah Gulen from the US. The Wall Street Journal reported that an investigation into Turkey offering up to $ 15 million to Flynn and his son for “delivering” the cleric to Ankara was underway. The embassy stressed that Turkey would never resort to “means external to the rule of law,” urging Washington once again to extradite the cleric, accused by Ankara of being the mastermind behind the botched July 2016 coup.

But owner Lloyd Williams and trainer Joseph O’Brien are hoping to give Rekindling his chance to win successive Melbourne Cups.
“A lot will depend on the handicapper,’’ Williams said.
“I’d like to think Rekindling could come back next year as he is a young horse and will only improve.
“But we saw with Almandin that it is not easy. Almandin went up 4.5kg on what he carried last year and he struggled today. Weight stops them.’’
Williams already owns the best stayer in Europe, Order Of St George, and he is looking forward to watching Rekindling take on the champion in the Ascot Gold Cup.
“We will probably send Rekindling back to Ireland and prepare this horse for the Ascot Gold Cup,’’ Williams said.
“Joseph can’t just have his father (Aidan) win it again with Order Of St George. We have to give him some competition.’’
Williams did suggest if Order Of St George was sent down under he would have gone close to winning the Melbourne Cup.
“I would have thought Order of St George at two miles with a bit of cut in the track there is no horse superior to him,’’ the owner said.
“Order Of St George is not a great traveller so I don’t think he will ever come – and we can’t be too greedy, we might have run a 1-2-3 today.’’
O’Brien conceded Rekindling had a long, arduous year and the young stayer deserves a break from racing.
“He has only disappointed us once all year and that was in the (English) Derby when he didn’t handle the track,’’ O’Brien said.
“He has kept improving all year and he was very good today. It is too early to be making plans for next year but let’s hope we can come back to Melbourne.’’
Rekindling has been installed $ 21 TAB Fixed Odds equal favourite with Johannes Vermeer for the 2018 Melbourne Cup.

German counterterrorism police have arrested a 19-year-old Syrian suspect who nurtured “concrete plans” to carry out an attack by detonating an explosive device with the aim of killing as many people as possible, the federal prosecutor’s office said.

The Syrian man, identified by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (GBA) as Yamen A, 19, was arrested in the early morning of Tuesday in the northeastern town of Schwerin “on suspicion of preparing a serious act of violence against the state.”
“According to the findings [available] so far, Yamen A made the decision to detonate an explosive device in Germany no later than July 2017 in order to kill and injure as many people as possible,” the statement reads.
The 19-year-old, who harbored “concrete plans” to prepare an “Islamism-motivated” terrorist attack, began buying parts and chemicals needed to manufacture an improvised explosive device, the GBA added. It is still unclear if he had identified any specific target for the attack.
It is unknown whether the man was a member of a terrorist organization, the prosecutor’s office said.

Anthony Joshua has a highly trained team of coaches inlcuding Rob Madden
At yesterday’s press conference ahead of the Brit’s latest title defence, which will see him take on France’s Carlos Takam, Joshua tried to distance himself from the belts in front of him.
“I still go to my old amateur club and train with kids who are like 10 years old,” Joshua said.
“You can only achieve what you can see and I still keep it real.”
But talking to Rob Madden, who works closely with Joshua on strength and conditioning, reveals that the world’s most feared heavyweight is only getting better.
“Throughout his career he has matured as an athlete and his understanding of things like recovery, sleep and nutrition has improved,” Madden, Joshua’s physiotherapist at The Centre for Health and Human Performance (CHHP), told Express Sport.
“The role of the team around him is to educate him on these things so we don’t constantly need to preach it.
“From a fight perspective, he learned so much from [beating Wladimir Klitschko]. It was fantastic.”

Madden added: “Generally, going into this one, he seems quite calm.
“He always has a calmness about him up to a fight and a level of confidence but I think in the heavyweight game you can’t ever be complacent or think you can switch off so him and his coach are practicing the same things, and getting ready to fight someone who will probably fight from close range and be quite a handful.”
Joshua has had a shorter camp than he was allowed to prepare for Klitschko after the date took several months to be agreed, as well as the venue.
The result is that Joshua has had to stay more gym-fit in the meantime and that the pre-camp fortnight Madden and his team prefer, where they do much of the “boring cardiovascular work”, has not been available to them.
GETTY
Anthony Joshua and Carlos Takam tale of the tape
The 28-year-old is also expected to come in lighter than 250lbs at which he tipped the scales in April.
Promoter Eddie Hearn hinted Joshua could be as much as a stone lighter but Madden is confident he will only drop three or four pounds and doesn’t believe there will be much of an aesthetic difference.
In fact, Joshua himself said that had he known he was facing Takam, a more physical, close-range fighter, he might have kept or even added weight.
But he and coach Rob McCracken spent the majority of camp expecting to fight Kubrat Pulev, a Bulgarian with a more amateur style against whom the added speed would be a major advantage.
The change came less than two weeks before Saturday’s title fight – far from “ideal”, in McCracken’s words – but from a physical perspective, nothing has changed. Joshua has still spent fight week piling on the calories and preparing his body for a gruelling evening of business.
There is a plan afoot though. Hearn may have let slip that Joshua is coming in light as a show of bravado, but it is more than just an effort.
When probed, Madden’s hesitation to let slip a false word about Joshua’s plans is understandable – and telling.
The Klitschko fight was a magnificent victory of course, but any coach or trainer would rather see his fighter win by first-round knockout than have to get up off the canvas.
After that, he was given a full month with minimal training to recover.
“Essentially the most important thing after a fight like that is rest,” Madden added.
“We suspected that with the knockdown his brain had taken a decent rattle and I noticed when he was in the ring that he sounded a little bit slurry.
“The doctor and I were quick to make sure his friends were close to him that night.

“The good thing with AJ is he doesn’t really drink much so that helps. He had a lot of down time that week. We did a lot of massage recovery.
“For him, it was just about being with his family and getting lots of rest.
“He was finally able to do nothing and let himself recover.
“It was about banking the sleep and letting his body drop down a notch: what we call in performance terms a ‘deloading’ period.”
Whatever language you’re speaking now, Joshua is locked and loaded.

At least 8 people, including three minors, have been charged in France for a “criminal terrorist conspiracy,” prosecutors said. Their intended targets were reportedly mosques, people of North African descent and politicians.
The accused, aged between 17 and 29, had plans to commit violent actions, the Paris prosecutor’s office said, as cited by AFP. The extremists, who were arrested on Tuesday, are accused of having links to notorious Logan Alexandre Nisin, an extreme far-right activist who was arrested in near the city of Marseille in June. He was also a former member of far-right organization Action Francaise Provence based in Marseille.

French authorities found out that the 21-year-old ran a Facebook page glorifying neo-Nazi terrorist Anders Breivik, who killed 77 people and injured over 300 in Norway in 2011.
Nisin’s mother was one of those arrested on Tuesday. However, she was later released.
The accused were a part of Nisin’s group dubbed the Secret Army Organization, or OAS by its French acronym. The organization was a reference to the extremist paramilitary French group during the Algerian war of 1954–62. Its members repeatedly carried out attacks to prevent Algerian independence.
Mosques, “people of North African descent or black people” and “anti-fascist” activists, were among their targets, a source in the police investigation said, as cited by French media.
The group also reportedly planned to target politicians, including French government spokesman Christophe Castaner and former presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
“The organization was planning purchases of weapons and paramilitary training. Some were already trained in shooting,” according to the source.
Nisin’s lawyer Eric Bourlion says that what the man planned was more “a provocation” than “a real attack.”
On Wednesday, the French parliament approved a new controversial anti-terrorism law. It will replace the soon-to-expire two-year state of emergency which was imposed in France to combat terrorism in the wake of the deadly 2015 Paris terrorist attacks, and has been extended six times since. However, the new legislation has prompted fears it will severely limit civil liberties.
