Two-and-a-half years since a leaked Access Hollywood tape upended his career, Billy Bush is making a return to television. The TV personality is set to host Extra Extra, a new iteration of the syndicated newsmagazine Extra that will air on Fox this fall. Per People, which first reported the news of Bush’s hiring, the show will feature a modernized set and an in-depth look at topics including pop culture, sports and politics. Bush’s Extra Extra gig marks his first TV job since getting fired from Today in 2016, following the leak of a now-infamous Access Hollywood tape. The unearthed recording from 2005 featured Donald Trump and Bush engaging in a lewd conversation about groping and kissing women without their consent. At the time of the tape’s release, Bush said he was “embarrassed and ashamed” that he had “acted foolishly in playing along” with Trump. He later told Late Show host Stephen Colbert that he had attended a soul-searching retreat in the wake of getting fired, acknowledging the “unbelievable irony” of losing his job while Trump went on to be elected president. As he prepares to return to TV this fall, Bush told People that he “had the opportunity to grow up a little bit” after spending more than two years without a steady job. “I own the moment. It was a bad moment. And I was in it,” Bush said. “But one moment doesn’t define your life… A good wallop on the side of the head makes you, changes you, and I’m a better version of the man I was.” Extra Extra premieres Monday, Sept. 9 on Fox. The post VW’s Electrify America Plots Second Batch of EV Charging Stations, Plug-in Propaganda appeared first on The Truth About Cars. Iain MacLeod has revealed what’s in store for fans of Coronation Street after taking over from former producer Kate Oates. The new boss, who previously worked on ITV drama series Emmerdale, discussed details about upcoming storylines and plots. As the producer of one of the longest-running soaps in UK history, Iain said he intends to evolve the series without messing with tradition. He also revealed his intention to spice things up a little, by pairing polar opposite themes with one another in order to create great TV. In an interview with Metro, Iain said: “I don’t intend to do anything radically different really. If I’m going to do anything, it’s to focus on balancing any dark stuff with lighter stuff. “And with comedy and with character, which is what people first fell in love with about Corrie. Including myself.” The screenwriter also defended Kate, who had been criticised heavily for airing “dark” stories, which tackled issues like suicide, sexual assault and death. Standing up for Kate, he insisted: “I think a lot of what she did was challenging, but it was massively successful in terms of audience reaction and also the social responsibility of what we do.” However, he did acknowledge that most people do not tune in to Coronation Street for the hard hitting storylines that try to shed light on social issues. “Kate’s a friend of mine and she’s extraordinarily talented woman, very intelligent, very capable, very good storyteller and I think she, in her time on this show, told some massively socially important stories that changed people’s lives,” he offered. “That’s not perhaps the reason people tune in to Coronation Street, but it shouldn’t be sniffed at and the viewing figures speak for themselves.” When asked how the programme will “change” with his leadership, he replied: “I don’t think people will see a change in the tone of the show when my name appears on the end of the credits. “It’ll be as it’s always been on Corrie, evolution from one phase to the next and only an idiot would come in and think let’s re-brief anything.” Iain was confirmed as the chief producer of Coronation Street earlier this year when Kate Oates stepped down from the role after two years in the job. “Being a part of Coronation Street has quite simply been one of the best experiences of my life,” she said back in April. “I am proud of the stories we have told and the impact they have had – and I’ve had a ball working with one of the best and most talented teams in television.” “I’ll be forever grateful for this opportunity and all it has given me, but I’m also excited to try something new,” she finished. Meanwhile, Iain said landing the role was a “dream” and joked how only Coronation Street could have tempted him away from Emmerdale. He added: “It gave me my first job in TV as an assistant researcher many years ago and to be returning as producer is the fulfilment of a longstanding dream.” Coronation Street continues tonight on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm The former German international has been told to justify his £350,000-a-week wages by new Gunners boss Unai Emery. Emery denied a rift with Ozil – who scored in a 2-1 win at Newcastle on Saturday – but says he wants to see more from his highest paid player, who still has another two-and-a-half years on his deal. Jose Mourinho was keeping tabs on him last season, before Ozil put pen to paper on his new contract, and is still interested if he becomes available. The Portuguese boss made no secret of his disappointment at a lack of summer spending in the last transfer window with just Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant his only new arrivals. United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward refused to splash the cash on a central defender and now faces the prospect of having to please his manager once again when the transfer window reopens in the New Year regarding Ozil. Meanwhile, Emery is keen for the former German international to contribute more goals for the Gunners this season. Ozil has been criticised for not scoring enough goals but took steps towards silencing his critics as he scored his first goal of the season against Newcastle in a 2-1 win. “His [Ozil’s] quality helps the team, it is important he scored,” Emery said. “I want not only for him to assist we need him to go in the box and score like today. “I will work with every player and continue our process to create the team as we want.” Goals from Granit Xhaka and Ozil against the Magpies saw Arsenal register their ninth and tenth different goal-scorers of the season. Emery is keen for everyone within his squad to get on the score sheet but does expect his attacking players to do more. “It’s good news. We need to improve and score more individually, we need we work every player, not only the attacking players the midfielders and centre backs from set pieces,” he said. “We want to give them all a chance to score but normally all the attacking players will do more.” Although Mourinho is monitoring the situation with Ozil at Arsenal, the midfield playmaker dismissed speculation of a rift with the manager after their third Premier League victory of the season. “I am very happy to play for Arsenal and especially for the new coach,” Ozil said. “He knows what he wants and the team accepts that, we have a good relationship. “We score and we are happy, even the players that don’t play, we are all team.” Ozil’s appearance against Newcastle marked his 200th appearance for Arsenal after being with the Gunners for five years. “I’m happy but most important we take the three points,” he said. “Congratulations to the whole team, we played well. Newcastle were good, aggressive. We showed our passion and took the points.” The Foxes want more than the £75m Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk earlier this year to part with Maguire, who has four years left on his contract. United boss Mourinho is ready to sell Marcos Rojo to Everton for £20m to help finance the move for the Sheffield United academy graduate. Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld and Barcelona’s Colombian World Cup star Yerry Mina are also targets ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline, just 24 hours before United’s Premier League season begins against Leicester at Old Trafford. Maguire has emerged as United’s prime target to bolster their backline having starred in England’s run to the World Cup semi-finals. The 25-year-old played on the left side of the Three Lions defence as Gareth Southgate guided his team to the last four in Russia. And a move to United would represent the next step in a remarkable rise for Maguire, who was playing Championship football as recently in 2016. Former England boss Sam Allardyce recently discussed the prospect of Maguire heading to United to play under Mourinho. “It depends what coach he gets next,” said Allardyce, when asked about the prospective switch. “If you get a good coach, they both take into consideration and stop this palaver about centre halves being good on the ball. “You’ve got to be a very good defender if you’re going to play for Manchester United. “I remember speaking to Sir Alex Ferguson and Brian Kidd about this. If you’re going to play for Manchester United you’ve got to be able to handle one-on-one. “Manchester United need to go and break teams down and to commit, so if you’re a central defender you have to sit there one-on-one and be able to cope with it. “This means you have to be one of the best defenders in the league. “You can still teach Harry that defensive side of the game. Everybody needs to keep being reminded about what their responsibilities are. “He’s certainly got the potential to get even better.” Maguire would join fellow defenders Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof at United. United hero Dimitar Berbatov has offered his backing to a raid on Leicester for the former Wigan loanee. “Manchester United need to sign a defender – probably Maguire from Leicester – he had a great World Cup, simply because of the way he controlled the ball and the vision he has on the pitch,” said Berbatov. “He has the ability of passing like a midfielder and stays calm under pressure. He would be a great addition to the squad.” Maguire and his representatives have made no comment so far on wanting to join Manchester United.

The main weapon the EU has developed is an updated version of a “blocking statute” originally drawn up in the 1990s to counter U.S. sanctions on Iran, Libya and Cuba. The law forbids European companies from complying with the U.S. measures and allows them to recover damages arising from the sanctions “from the person causing them.”
But lawyers and diplomats say there are doubts over the effectiveness of a tool that has never been properly tested.
“It’s a European policy that’s totally in contradiction to the American policy: that doesn’t happen very often,” says Jean De Ruyt, a senior adviser at Covington & Burling, the international law firm, and a former Belgian ambassador to the EU.
Any important European company will be afraid … because the U.S. arm is long.

The dilemma was created after Donald Trump in May withdrew the U.S. from the 2015 nuclear agreement Iran signed with world powers, including the EU, the U.K., France and Germany. The European signatories are desperate to save the deal, and believe it is critical that the republic is still able to reap an economic dividend from the accord.
But Trump has suggested his administration will offer few waivers to companies. The U.S. president used his toughest language yet against the Islamic regime this week, warning Iran it would face severe “consequences” if it threatened America. Hassan Rouhani, Iran’s president, this weekend said that reimposing new sanctions would equate to a “declaration of war against” the nation.
There are also trade tensions between the U.S. and the EU over Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on steel imports to America.
Federica Mogherini, the EU’s foreign policy chief, acknowledged last week that the EU faced a “difficult exercise” in its response to the sanctions on Iran because of the “weight of the U.S. in the global economy and financial system.”
“But we are determined to preserve this deal,” she said.
Brett Hillis, partner and sanctions expert at Reed Smith, the international law firm, says there was nothing in the EU plans that would stop a “run for the hills” by European businesses active in Iran. He said the blocking statute was “a measure which indicates the EU’s displeasure but in no way goes far enough to move the calculus for European companies.”
Any punishment threatened in Europe for complying with the sanctions is likely to pale against the potential retribution in the U.S. for ignoring them. In 2015, a U.S. court ordered BNP Paribas, the French bank, to pay almost $ 9 billion in fines and forfeitures over alleged violations of sanctions against Iran, Sudan and Cuba.
European companies would also face the threat in the U.S. of action against individual executives, exclusion from public procurement and other opportunities lost because of reputational damage.
To enforce the blocking statute, European authorities would also need to prove a company had violated it by withdrawing from Iran. Businesses could advance a range of defenses, including that they were leaving the Islamic republic for commercial reasons.
European companies including Peugeot parent PSA and French oil major Total have already said they will halt their operations in Iran unless they secure a waiver. It emerged this month that the U.S. has rebuffed a European request for a carve-out from the renewed sanctions of crucial industries, including finance, energy and health care.
Roger Matthews, a senior lawyer at Dechert, says that if the EU were to give the blocking statute “enough teeth to have the effect they want, it’s just going to be a compliance nightmare with added legal expense.” He adds that European Commission guidelines expected soon should provide more clarity.
Other EU proposals to insulate companies by offering them non-dollar-denominated finance lines through institutions such as the European Investment Bank have run into troubles of their own.
Werner Hoyer, EIB president, said last week that it would “risk the business model of the bank” if it played an “active role” in Iran.
European diplomats hope they can still make progress in other areas, such as providing bilateral financing lines to Tehran and measures to make payments for oil directly to Iran’s central bank. The U.S. might also still soften its stance: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo hinted this month that Washington may yet grant individual country requests for sanctions waivers.
But without such carve-outs, the impact of the EU countermeasures is likely to be largely symbolic and insufficient to persuade many big businesses to engage with Iran. “Any important European company will be afraid,” says De Ruyt. “Because the U.S. arm is long.”

Enlarge / No, this Lost in Space moment between Will Robinson and his new robot friend isn’t followed by a joyous devouring of Reese’s Pieces. (credit: Netflix)
My patience with Netflix’s new Lost in Space reboot ran out at roughly halfway through its first season. The new series’ action, dialogue, and plot had ranged from serviceable to truly solid up to that point, and I found myself largely surprised by this family-friendly take on sci-fi survival television.
But the custodians of this new Lost in Space, whose first ten episodes are now live on Netflix, aim too high. Gone is the obvious wink-to-camera cheese that made the original ’60s show such an embedded piece of the American TV zeitgeist. In its place, we have a serious family drama wrapped up in a hyperspace landing on a distant galaxy. The reboot’s best moments—and it definitely has some good ones—are about its heartfelt characters. The same can be said for the worst ones.
As a result, a single wave of logic- and rationale-breaking moments take down far too much of Lost in Space‘s foundation. If that sounds like a dealbreaker to you, then the rest of the show’s solid sci-fi world-building, Lost-like character building, and particularly good teen acting may also fail to keep you engaged beyond that same half-season point.
