Kabounce will have you pinging all over a map of bumpers and flippers, bouncing off of every surface as fast as you can in order to shift the objects in the field to your color by smashing into them, and keeping your opponents from doing the same by smashing into them.

Up to four players can locally hammer into one another, or eight players online, all joining in on some high speed rolling at once. You can whip around the field, guiding your ball as they build up speed and try to strike various targets all over the course. Hitting something changes it to your team’s color, and this also works on something your opponent has already hit, so you’ll want to get in the last blow on every one of the bumpers and other objects on the course. With some handy powers and other useful abilities, you can hopefully knock your opponents out of the way while you’re at it, taking over these futuristic pinball tables by force.

Not all ball will look the same, as you can unlock many, many customization options for your spherical character, giving them shades, floaties, and other silly decorations. You can then have these creations battle your friends and online foes, or tackle the game’s time attack mode, working through complicated courses. Feel free to join friends on other platforms, too, as Kabounce offers cross-play between PS4 and PC.

The team has finally finished the miniature pinball kit prototype, and they don’t want to stop playing it! Originally the design was going to include three generic themes, but the team moved to one universal playfield that can have customized themes applied to it. If you’re a fan of Bally/Williams’ golden age of pinball machines, you might want to act fast to secure some great emulated facsimiles of some of the era’s best tables. The Pinball Arcade has announced that the license holder for 61 Bally/Midway titles that make up the heart of the collection has declined to renew its contract. After June 30, you will no longer be able to buy those tables inside the game, though existing owners will continue to be able to play the tables and they will still receive support, meaning there’s no reason not to grab the ones you want before they’re gone.

The Pinball Arcade‘s emulated versions of full-sized pinball tables are a great substitute for pinball fans not able (or crazy enough) to purchase their own full-sized pinball machines and for those not lucky enough to live somewhere with easy access to real playable tables nearby (residents of Portland, Oregon, can stop reading now). The officially licensed tables on The Pinball Arcade all have the original rules and sound effects and are available on a wide range of platforms, from phones to consoles to PCs.

The physics engine can’t possibly duplicate the feel of a full-sized physical game, but it does a pretty good job. The emulated tables are also a great way to learn the rules for games you might get a chance to play later in person at a local spot (those lucky Portlanders win out again).

With the electronics, mechanisms and simulations done, the miniature pinball game is starting to come together. Now it needs a great case. Remember, not every design element needs to be done on the computer first; sometimes it’s better to get hands-on with foam board and start prototyping. LAS VEGAS—When we weren’t pounding the pavement at last week’s overloaded CES trade show, we at Ars Technica took whatever opportunity we could to nerd out in uniquely Vegas style. That didn’t mean dumping our spare quarters into a Lord of the Rings-themed slot machine; it meant hitching a ride to the Vegas Pinball Hall of Fame.

This collection of roughly 260 working pinball, electromechanical, and video games has been open to the public for over a decade, with its 2006 opening followed by a size-boosting relocation in 2009 to a venue two miles down Tropicana Avenue. It arguably includes the most varied and valuable open-every-day collection of pinball and pinball-like games in the United States, if not the world—but you’d never know it by simply passing the building.
