The list of TV shows that only lasted two seasons is a veritable goldmine, it turns out… and one that keeps on giving.

Last week, we here at TVLine chose and ranked our 22 favorite two-season TV shows of all time, and while our readers seemed to agree for the most part with our selections, you did point out some very notable omissions. Some of your suggestions, we considered but just didn’t rank as highly as the shows that made it… and some, we actually loved and just missed entirely. (Timeless? Trial & Error? Yeah, those are our bad.)

So to thank you for a lively discussion, we’ve rounded up a dozen more two-and-done TV shows, all of which clearly made a lasting impression on our readers, in spite of their brief lifespans. And since we wanted your voice to be fully heard this time, we’ve also included your comments along with each show. So check out the gallery to the right — or click here for direct access — to see which neglected two-season shows you and your fellow TVLine readers championed the most. Plus, we’re always listening, so hit us up with your favorite two-season shows (we still missed a few, right?) in the comments below.

Let’s block ads! (Why?)

The ‘Crisis’ Mystery You Maybe Didn’t Even Pick Up on Has Been Solved https://briefnews.eu/the-crisis-mystery-you-maybe-didnt-even-pick-up-on-has-been-solved/ https://briefnews.eu/the-crisis-mystery-you-maybe-didnt-even-pick-up-on-has-been-solved/#respond Mon, 20 Jan 2020 01:09:44 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-crisis-mystery-you-maybe-didnt-even-pick-up-on-has-been-solved/ Slip on your chest protector and strap on your shin guards, because some inside baseball is hurtling your way, Arrowverrse fans.

Long before the five-part “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover even got underway, eagle-eyed fans latched onto a burning question — and now, days after the finale aired, it has been answered.

As early as Nov. 10, fans were tweeting at Arrowverse EP Marc Guggenheim, asking why, in the “Crisis” logo, Oliver Queen was oddly absent. As seen in the original logo above, you had Legends of Tomorrow‘s Sara inside the letter C, followed by The Flash (R), the Monitor (I), Supergirl (in the first S) and Batwoman (in the second I). Then, inside the second S, you had Arrow represented by… an inanimate arrowhead from the series’ title card.

Back then, Guggenheim shared on Twitter only that, “Believe it or not… legal and financial issues” were to blame for Oliver’s omission. “The number of things — little things — that #$ @% us up constantly… you can’t imagine,” he presumably grumbled from behind the keyboard.

Eventually, the “Crisis” logo switched over to a version (below) that did feature Stephen Amell’s emerald archer inside that second letter S.

So, what changed? Guggenheim at first merely hinted that a “loophole” had been found which allowed the inclusion of the actual Green Arrow. But this past week, with the crossover event fully aired, he was able to elaborate the legal problem.

“At first I was told only actors appearing in all five hours could be in the main title card. Stephen, as you now know, wasn’t in Hour 5 (a fact I obviously couldn’t spoil),” Guggenheim said. “Then the legal eagles figured out a workaround.” (To those who then noted that the Monitor wasn’t in Part 5 either, Guggenheim noted that LaMonica Garrett was, as the Anti-Monitor.)

Were you among those who who noticed and were puzzled by an arrowhead graphic displacing Oliver Queen?

The View Poll: Pick Your All-Time ‘Dream Team’ of Five Cohosts https://briefnews.eu/the-view-poll-pick-your-all-time-dream-team-of-five-cohosts/ https://briefnews.eu/the-view-poll-pick-your-all-time-dream-team-of-five-cohosts/#respond Wed, 03 Jul 2019 23:16:51 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-view-poll-pick-your-all-time-dream-team-of-five-cohosts/

ABC’s The View has cycled through 11 different combinations of cohosts across its 22-year-run. But out of the nearly two dozen total cohosts who have passed through the daytime talker’s Upper West Side studios over the decades (and in turn been witness to turnovers both rote and downright raucous), who were your favorites?

Or, more specifically: Which five (5) from any “era” — presumably operating at their prime — would you pick to populate your own “dream team” panel of full-time cohosts?

Heading into Season 23 (premiering this September), The View will again team mainstay Joy Behar (who has only missed two seasons since the series’ launch) with Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Abby Huntsman and (for now, at least) Meghan McCain. Among all daytime talk shows and news programs (24 total), it last season ranked No. 4 in total viewership (behind Dr. Phil, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Live With Kelly and Ryan). And in a recent TVLine survey, it only trailed Ellen and The Price Is Right among favorite daytime programs.

But what does your perfect View look like? Who is your moderator? Your acerbic cut-up? Your conservative voice(s)? The peppy young’un? Review the list of all-time cohosts below and pick your favorite five. Then, in Comments, share your “Dream Team” and see how other readers’ picks shaped up.

Kevin Durant: Expert makes Knicks prediction as Warriors star faces Lakers, Clippers pick https://briefnews.eu/kevin-durant-expert-makes-knicks-prediction-as-warriors-star-faces-lakers-clippers-pick/ https://briefnews.eu/kevin-durant-expert-makes-knicks-prediction-as-warriors-star-faces-lakers-clippers-pick/#respond Tue, 15 Jan 2019 02:43:31 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/kevin-durant-expert-makes-knicks-prediction-as-warriors-star-faces-lakers-clippers-pick/

That’s the verdict of Jason McIntyre of Fox Sports.

Durant faces a key career decision and can opt out of his final year at the Golden State Warriors to move somewhere else as a free agent.

He has won two championships in two years with the Warriors and despite their struggles this year, is expected to pick up a third straight title in June.

But the back-to-back Finals MVP has come in for constant criticism during his time in the Bay Area for departing Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder for a team where he was also guaranteed for success.

That has seen an asterisk placed on Durant’s achievements by many and it is believed the 30-year-old forward may well seek to lead his own team to a triumph in response.

That has seen the All-Star-less LA Clippers touted as one destination given they have the salary cap space for two max contract players, while the Knicks are also in dire need of a revival and boast the finances to pull off a major acquisition.

The Los Angeles Lakers are keen to surround LeBron James with more elite talent and have also been tipped to try and tease Durant to southern California, although the nine-time All-Star has suggested he does not want to join LeBron.

And asked about the Knicks recently ahead of a contest with Golden State, Durant was positive about the team and hailed that their young team “is starting to get it and figure it out”, adding: “Just the way they play and playing hard and giving it all for their coach, you can see that playing against them.”

He also hailed rookie Kevin Knox as having “a bright future ahead of him” and added on the injured Kristaps Porzingis: “I hope that he recovers from the injury and gets to play the game that he loves. Obviously he loves to play and fans of New York and his team-mates love having him out there.”

And while Durant also distanced himself from a move to the Big Apple, insisting he has “no clue” where such rumours come from, McIntyre suspects the Knicks are a serious option for the star.

“The Knicks are quietly becoming attractive to Durant,” he told Scoop B Radio with Brandon Robinson.

“You hold out Porzingis the rest of this season so he comes back next season fully healthy.

“They’re tanking aggressively, they’re looking right now at one of the worst three teams in the league.

“They win the [NBA draft] lottery, you’re looking at a healthy [Kristaps] Porzingis, maybe Zion Williamson, Tim Hardaway Jr. has had a pretty nice year, Kevin Knox looks like a promising rookie.

“Does Kevin Durant want to come and lead that group? Zion isn’t going to be the best player in the league right out of the beat but he’s going to sell a lot of tickets and he’s unselfish.

“I don’t think Zion could be a No 1 on a championship contender.

“But I do wonder, are the Knicks attractive? Hardaway as your No 4 guy, Knox as your No 5? That’s a squad that’s challenging.”

Coronation Street spoilers: Nick Tilsley RETURNS in love triangle but who will he pick? https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-nick-tilsley-returns-in-love-triangle-but-who-will-he-pick/ https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-nick-tilsley-returns-in-love-triangle-but-who-will-he-pick/#respond Sun, 16 Sep 2018 09:31:16 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-nick-tilsley-returns-in-love-triangle-but-who-will-he-pick/

Coronation Street fans will be delighted to learn Nick Tilsley (played by Ben Price) will make a return to the cobbles in the coming weeks.

The actor has been filming for a few weeks now and it seems tantalising details of his return have spilled out.

It seems the bad boy will be breaking hearts when he returns as he struggles to decide on a woman.

Carla Connor (Alison King) and Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) will both fight for his affections, but who will he pick?

When Nick left, his relationship with Leanne was left in ruins.

But there is most certainly more to see from the storyline as the pair have shared a lot of history together.

However, Nick still has unfinished business with Carla. The pair were planning to wed until she had an affair with Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill).

Carla is currently trying to recover after splitting up with Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) a while back.

To make matters worse, Peter is also one of Nick’s greatest enemies.

But who will Nick choose as the ladies both vie for his affections?

Alison recently spoke out about the return of Nick, teasing there would be romance on the cards for Carla and Nick.

She told Metro how Nick was the love of her life as they found a “calm” space to co-exist in.

Alison, 45, noted how different he was to Nick, who was recovering from alcoholism at the time.

The actress teased: “There is a lot to be explored, it will be interesting to see what the impact his return has…”

Elsewhere on Coronation Street, Sean Tully actor, Antony Cotton, spoke out about whether he would ever leave the ITV soap.

Speaking to Express.co.uk at the recent TV Choice Awards, the soap star admitted it is the gripping storylines his character gets that really keeps him firmly on the cobbles.

He explained how Sean’s recent homeless storyline has opened a lot of doors for him.

“Someone comes up to me and asks about the storyline and how its meant something to them and that’s all because of Sean,” Antony said.

He added: “So when people ask me about leaving, first of all if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

“It’s afforded me a lot of things and I’m very lucky.”

Coronation Street continues tomorrow on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.

Meet Trump’s Supreme Court Pick: Brett Kavanaugh https://briefnews.eu/meet-trumps-supreme-court-pick-brett-kavanaugh/ https://briefnews.eu/meet-trumps-supreme-court-pick-brett-kavanaugh/#respond Tue, 04 Sep 2018 10:03:26 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/meet-trumps-supreme-court-pick-brett-kavanaugh/ Update: On July 9, 2018, President Donald Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh to fill Justice Kennedy’s slot on the Supreme Court.

For three decades, one man has held down the center of an often divided U.S. Supreme Court: Justice Anthony Kennedy. In our Life After Kennedy series, OZY takes a look at what the court will look like without him.

The last thing he wanted was for the whole world to see his work. Brett Kavanaugh, a hotshot young attorney in the office of independent counsel Kenneth Starr, was a lead author of the infamous “Starr Report” — a 445-page catalog of the offenses of President William J. Clinton, down to the most salacious detail. Kavanaugh and a colleague wanted to submit perjury and obstruction of justice evidence to Congress, but leave out the narrative of the relationship with intern Monica Lewinsky — which Kavanaugh worried would prompt others to paint Starr as “sex-crazed,” according to journalist Bob Woodward’s Shadow: Five Presidents and the Legacy of Watergate. Starr overruled his protégé. The ensuing frenzy around the tawdry passages proved Kavanaugh right.

Ap 591507590502

Today, Kavanaugh, 53, is a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and a contender for a spot on the U.S. Supreme Court. That is, if an opening arises and a president facing his own sex scandal and special counsel investigation picks him. Kavanaugh, who is on Donald Trump’s public list of 25 potential nominees, brings considerable experience in the Republican legal trenches and a flair for the bold in his judicial opinions during more than a decade on the premier steppingstone to First Street. He’s also survived a grueling Senate confirmation fight that stretched over nearly three years — good prep should a Supreme test be headed his way.

[Kavanaugh] really likes a lot of power in the president. He doesn’t like as much power in administrative agencies.

Lisa Heinzerling, Georgetown Law

Kavanaugh grew up in suburban Maryland, where his mother was a prosecutor and then a trial court judge in an era when women were a rare sight on the bench. An only child, he attended the elite Georgetown Prep School, followed by Yale for his undergraduate and law degrees. A Supreme Court clerkship with Justice Anthony Kennedy — the man he could replace — was part of a sprint through the Republican legal ranks. He worked for the Office of the Solicitor General under George H.W. Bush, Starr’s team, the 2000 Florida election recount and the George W. Bush White House. There he worked in the counsel’s office, vetting a stream of conservative judicial nominees, and became Bush’s staff secretary — a powerful post that manages the paper crossing the president’s desk.

Helgi Walker, a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in Washington and a friend of Kavanaugh’s for 25 years, says that in a field of high achievers, Kavanaugh stood out for his modesty. “There are a lot of people in Washington who like to hear themselves talk,” Walker says. “Brett is not one of those people.”

In 2003, Bush made Kavanaugh one of the youngest judges ever to be nominated to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, amid a standoff with Senate Democrats over nominees they considered extreme. Given Kavanaugh’s GOP track record and lack of judicial experience, Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called the nomination “not just a drop of salt in the partisan wounds; it is the whole shaker.” Kavanaugh, calm and poised during his hearings, dodged questions about White House debates on judges and torture. He said he would follow Supreme Court precedent on abortion rights but wouldn’t give a personal view on the Roe v. Wade decision. He wasn’t confirmed until 2006.

Glennharvey ozy brettkavanaugh final gif2

Outside the courtroom, Walker says Kavanaugh is a burger, beer and hockey kind of guy who’s often ferrying his two grade-school daughters to sports practices. He recently told the conservative Heritage Foundation that he’s not always able to leave work behind when he coaches Catholic Youth Organization girls basketball. In one practice, he yelled from the sidelines: “You can’t dribble through a zone press! You’ve got to pass the ball!” The gym fell silent until one of his players spoke up: “Oooh, he’s using his judge voice on us now.” The rest of the team burst out laughing.

In speeches, Kavanaugh says judges should not be coaches, but rather umpires calling balls and strikes — an opinion echoed by Chief Justice John Roberts during his confirmation hearing. Kavanaugh praises the judiciary’s turn toward textualism in recent decades and says judges err when they put their own views over what’s written in black and white.

Still, Kavanaugh — whose style is compared by Georgetown Law professor Lisa Heinzerling to that of the famed textualist Justice Antonin Scalia — is known to express his views in vividly written dissenting opinions, even if he has yet to use “legalistic argle-bargle” or “jiggery-pokery” as the late Scalia did. “I can’t tell whether he’s kind of auditioning for the Supreme Court, but he certainly does write ambitious opinions and ones that are maximalist,” Heinzerling says. “They do more than they need to do, and they go further than they need to go in arguing for changes in current law.”

For example, Kavanaugh this year declared that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is unconstitutional, given the agency’s independence and unitary structure, and he has voted repeatedly to slap back aggressive regulations from Barack Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency. Yet in voting to strike down the Affordable Care Act in 2012, he wrote that “the president may decline to enforce a statute that regulates private individuals when the president deems the statute unconstitutional, even if a court has held or would hold the statute constitutional.”

“He really likes a lot of power in the president,” says Heinzerling, who worked for the EPA under Obama. “He doesn’t like as much power in administrative agencies.”

Speaking at the Heritage Foundation, Kavanaugh said that despite the Senate confirmation grief he took for it, his five and a half years in the White House provided ideal training for the D.C. Circuit’s bevy of cases on separation of powers. “Working at the White House, in my view, gives you the background and fortitude to say no to the government when the stakes are high,” Kavanaugh said. He could soon be facing the highest stakes of all.
