Piers Morgan, 54, and his Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid, 48, was joined by Michaella McCollum to recount her experience of being imprisoned overseas for trying to smuggle one and a half million pounds worth of cocaine through Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, Peru. After the guest claimed she “didn’t know” what she was doing, the host was extremely riled and grilled her about why people should buy her book and read it. Michaella and Melissa Reid were sentenced to six years and eight months in jail after pleading guilty to drug smuggling. After three years, the women applied to be freed on parole and made their return to the UK some months later. Now, the mother of twin boys is telling her story about her ordeal in a new tell all book in an attempt to raise awareness to other youngsters. In trying to get to the bottom of why the guest agreed to the deal of smuggling 11kg of cocaine for £5,000, Piers grilled Michaella about her motives for writing a book as she would get money from the sales. READ MORE: Susanna Reid staggered at ‘stupid’ Peru Two Michaella McCollum The guest said of her decision to smuggle the drugs: “I kind of look back now and think how did I not expect this was going to happen. “The torture this was going to cause myself.” Piers told her: “The problem is, I read the account of what you went through and it’s horrible. You went through a horrible ordeal, there’s no question of that. I just find it very hard to feel sorry for you and also I find it problematic you’re now doing this book making money out of this whole experience.” “A small percentage. Authors make less than 10 per cent,” Michaella explained, to which the host continued to probe her. “Why should you make any money out of it?” Piers asked. “I don’t think I’m doing this for the money,” the guest replied, to which the presenter enquired: “Why are you doing it?” Stating her intentions for reliving her experience in a book, she replied: “I want to bring awareness.” Peru captain Paolo Guerrero – almost banned from playing at the Russia 2018 World Cup for ingesting cocaine – assisted one goal and socred the other as Peru won their first World Cup game for 36 years versus Australia in Sochi. Guerrero provided a delicious chip for teammate Andre Carrillo inside the Australia box for the Benfica man to volley across his body and low into the far corner of the Australia goal for the opener on 18 minutes. Then in the second half, Guerrero turned scorer when he swiveled and turned in Christian Cueva’s deflected pass to double the Peruvian lead on 50 minutes. Guerrero would not have played in the Russia 2018 tournament if his ban for ingesting cocaine had not been lifted by the Swiss Supreme Court with just two weeks left until the tournament kicked off. Australia captain Mile Jedinak wrote a letter in support of Guerrero’s appeal against his 14-month ban before his hearing last month. Such was his impact in the game, the Socceroos skipper could be left regretting his noble actions. DETAILS TO FOLLOW Twitter has reacted with an outpouring of collective grief after the popular Peruvians were knocked out of the World Cup after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat against France in Ekaterinburg. Others hoped it wouldn’t be quite so long before the Peruvians return to the World Cup party – with Russia 2018 being their first appearance on football’s biggest stage since 1982. Perú fought valiantly, but couldn't finish in their two games. Still proud of them for making the world cup for the first time in 36 years! This isn’t over, Peru will be back 🇵🇪🇵🇪🇵🇪 — Natalia (@nati1498) June 21, 2018 But alas, Twitter wouldn’t be Twitter without some old-fashion trolling, and some were less than bothered by the Peruvian exit. Peruvian fans have been out in force in Russia, with some estimates putting their number as high as 80,000. They have charmed the locals and fellow visitors to Russia with their vibrant support and joyful love of their team and the sport. They play their final Group C game against Australia in Sochi on Tuesday, knowing that their fate is already sealed but hoping to leave their legions of fans with a victory to cheer. Peruvian fans turned the streets of Saransk – the smallest of the World Cup host cities – into a giant Latin American carnival as they marched towards Mordovia Arena to watch their team face Denmark. Peru are appearing at their first World Cup finals since 1982, and their fans have been out in force to contribute to the special atmosphere in Russia so far this summer. Their colorful number have been a ubiquitous presence in Moscow in recent days, and they made their way en masse to Saransk – which has a population of just under 300,000 – to attend the team’s World Cup Group C opening game against Denmark on Saturday. They formed a huge column of red and white to march toward the venue of the game, Mordovia Arena. They chanted in unison as they approached the ground, creating a spectacle the likes of which locals in the provincial city had never seen before. They also gathered around the city’s main cathedral, playing music and bringing a touch of the South American party spirit. The fans were ultimately left with little to cheer in the match itself, suffering a 1-0 defeat against the Danes thanks to Yussuf Poulsen’s goal on 59 minutes, after Christian Cueva had blazed a first-half penalty over the bar. However, the indomitable Peruvian spirit is unlikely to be dampened, and they will take the party to Ekaterinburg where they face France on Thursday. Scores of previously-unknown ancient drawings have been discovered in the Peruvian desert. The phenomenal images are believed to be some 100 years older than those previously found in the area. Researchers used drones to capture never-before-seen footage of the striking ancient geoglyphs in the Palpa province, finding 50 new examples in the process, National Geographic reports. The iconic Nasca lines were created more than a millennium ago and are found across the Nasca province in Peru. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, the markings were made by moving the top layer of red desert pebbles to reveal the paler ones underneath, creating elaborate shapes and designs. While much of the previously-discovered Nasca lines are believed to have been formed by the Nasca people which inhabited the area from 200-700 AD, some of the ‘newer’ images are believed to have been the work of the Paracas and Topara cultures between 500 BC and 200 AD. The new discoveries are largely located on hillsides, where villagers below could see them, although Nasca lines are usually only visible from above. The Paracas drawings also differ from the Nasca in that they tend to feature humans rather than lined patterns. “Most of these figures are warriors,” Peruvian archaeologist Luis Jaime Castillo Butters told National Geographic of the find. “These ones could be spotted from a certain distance, so people had seen them, but over time, they were completely erased.” READ MORE: Greenpeace activists ‘damage’ ancient Nazca lines, Peru to seek criminal charges The Peruvian Ministry of Culture received a grant from the US after Greenpeace activists accidentally damaged one of the drawings in 2014. This allowed archaeologist Johny Isla and his team to join forces with Castillo Butters, a professor of archaeology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, National Geographic Explorer and Global Xplorer. They examined satellite imagery to identify areas of interest, and used drones with cameras and 3D scanning to find the new drawings. Like this story? Share it with a friend! Russian researchers have analyzed tissue samples from one of the mysterious alien creatures uncovered in Peru last year. The mummy, with an elongated skull and only three fingers, has excited ufologists since its discovery. Preliminary analysis of the tissue samples revealed that the mummy, found in a tomb near the Nazca lines of Peru and named Maria, is a “humanoid being” with 23 pairs of chromosomes – so far, so human. It dates back to about the 5th century AD, a full millennium before Europeans discovered America. A professor of the National Research University in St. Petersburg, Konstantin Korotkov, and Natalya Zaloznaya, radiologist and specialist in computer tomography at the International Biological Systems Institute, collected the tissue samples in Peru and brought them back to St. Petersburg for analysis. READ MORE: 5 ‘aliens’ discovered near Nazca lines in Peru – Ufologist (VIDEO, POLL) Korotkov believes Maria could be a representative of a certain race that evolved much earlier than we did, “maybe thousands of years earlier,” he said. The professor hypothesized that this race may have perished as a result of a flood or a comet strike. The team is now keen to find out how Maria’s composition resembles that of people in South America, Africa or elsewhere. “Right now we are making a detailed analysis to see if the position of all the chromosomes, of all the amino acids, coincides with ours,”said Korotkov to Mir 24. X-ray and computer tomography showed Maria has a very different rib structure to that of humans. Keel-shaped in the upper part with a handful of semicircular ribs, the cage protects the creature’s internal organs, which do resemble those of humans. “We clearly see the contours of the trachea and the bronchi, of the heart and its chambers; we can even see the shape of the valves. We can also see quite clearly the contours of the diaphragm, the liver and the spleen,” explains Zaloznaya. Scientists also found Maria was embalmed in a cadmium chloride white powder, the antibacterial effect of which has preserved Maria to this day. READ MORE: Ufologist ‘confirms with scientific evidence’ that aliens lived with humans on Earth The researchers are now working closely with their Peruvian colleagues to continue deciphering the genome and break its DNA code, reports Mir 24. They’re even hopeful of one day convincing authorities to bring the mummy to Russia. Aside from Maria, Professor Korotkov witnessed four more mummies in Peru, all male with a DNA of 23 pairs of chromosomes, like us. However, “they appear human but they are not. Their anatomic structure is different” says Korotkov. “They could be extraterrestrials or bio robots”. Think your friends would be interested? Share this story! Vampire bats are making farmers’ lives in Peru a nightmare by preying on their cattle, a new study on the rabies ridden species suggests. However, locals living among the bats may not be aware of the cause of the bovine deaths. Native to the Americas, the common vampire bat is depicted in Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula as the winged form of a castle-dwelling demon. Like the book’s monstrous villain, the real vampire bat subsists on a diet of blood. But the hairy species is also known to be riddled with rabies. Now a new study claims that vampire bats are responsible for multiple cattle deaths in Peru each year, by passing on the deadly virus through its blood-sucking exploits. In Peru, where the rodent is described as abundant, vampire bats may be flying under the radar in terms of their farm animal killing abilities. READ MORE: Vampire bats developing taste for human blood – study According to a study by the University of Glasgow, vampire rat rabies (VBR) cases in cattle are four times greater than officially reported. Some people may not even know that bat rabies is responsible for the death of their animals. “Farmers who believed VBR was absent from their communities were one third as likely to report livestock deaths from disease as those who believed VBR was present, and under-reporting increased with distance from reporting offices,” the study, published in journal PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases, states. Analyzing rabies cases over 11 years and questionnaires from the locals in the regions of Apurimac, Ayacucho, and Cusco, researchers concluded that between 505 and 724 fall victim to the vampire bat annually. The findings are based on spatially-corrected models using data gathered from 40 communities. The deaths and the vaccines to help combat the issue amounts to US$ 300,000 in lost revenue, the study added. The saliva from the bats anesthetizes its victim, allowing it to feed on the blood of animals, primarily birds and cows. Earlier this year, Brazilian scientists found evidence of human blood in vampire bat feces.
Australia were drawn in Group C alongside France, Peru and Denmark.
Their first match will be against France at Kazan Arena on June 16.
Fortunately, Kazan is where the Socceroos will be based for the tournament.
But it will be a tough assignment for Australia. France boast a team of superstars and are on the rise, while Denmark are full of quality themselves.
The Socceroos will fancy themselves against Peru though, who qualified via a play off against New Zealand, but hardly offered much.
COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE: At least it’s not the group of death
The draw took place at 6pm local time on Friday evening, 2am (EDT) on Saturday.
It was a snowy evening in Moscow as officials, dignitaries and media made their way to the historic Kremlin State Palace.
Socceroos assistant coach Ante Milicic was there to represent Australia – the only country of the 32 participants without a head coach.
FFA boss David Gallop couldn’t make the long trip, with the AGM having taken place in Sydney on Thursday.
After football’s royalty walked the red carpet, including Diego Maradona, Pele, Gordon Banks and Cafu, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin made the opening address to get official proceedings under way.
There was some entertainment, but inside the Hall anticipation was building ahead of the draw.
England’s Gary Lineker was the draw host and he was assisted by Diego Maradona, Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Carlos Puyol, Fabio Cannavaro, Gordon Banks and Diego Forlan.

Video footage has emerged of Peru and Colombia players apparently conspiring to fix their FIFA 2018 World Cup Russia qualifier to end in a draw – a result which benefitted both sides.
The teams played out a 1-1 draw in the Estadio Nacional de Lima in the Peruvian capital on Wednesday. James Rodriguez put Colombia 1-0 up on 56 minutes before Peru leveled 20 minutes later through Paolo Guerrero.

That result saw Colombia finish fourth in the South America qualifying group, gaining an automatic place for Russia 2018, with fifth-place Peru gaining a play-off match against New Zealand.
Both teams advanced at the expense of rivals Chile, who lost 3-0 to Brazil in Sao Paulo on the same night in a match that kicked off at the same time, and finished sixth on goal difference.
Footage has surfaced that suggests Colombia captain Radamel Falcao knew of the fact Chile were losing in Brazil and clandestinely told Peru players, with his hand covering his mouth, to make sure the result stayed level.
Although a win for Peru would have given them automatic qualification, had they conceded one more goal they would have been out altogether. Commentators have since referred to the incident as the “Pact of Lima.”
After the match, Falcao revealed to reporters that he did in fact make the Chile result known to Peru players, but remained adamant that both sides fought for the win over 90 minutes.
“We knew what was happening in the other matches, we were playing with [the knowledge of] the other results and in that moment [I tried] to transmit that [to Peru]. Nothing more,” the former Manchester United striker told reporters, the Independent reported.
“I think Peru has been a worthy rival, they fought for 90 minutes just like us. The match was very tight. We suffered a lot but in the end we did it.”

Peru midfielder Renato Tapia attested that Colombian players approached his team about the draw, telling Panamericana TV: “In the last five minutes, the Colombians approached us. They knew what the situation was in the other games.”
“So we managed the game as we needed to… I spoke with Radamel, who told me we were both qualified [as things stood].”
