Father Paolo Glaentzer, 70, was arrested last month for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old girl in a car. The court did not jail the priest, but he is currently being held on house arrest as an investigation continues.

The disgraced priest told an Italian newspaper that he is “very sorry” about what happened, but argued that “the devil tripped me” into abusing the girl.

Glaentzer said that the encounter was “an exchange of affection” that got out of control, and added that the victim seemed “much more mature than she was.”

“I found out she was 11 years old…I thought she was at least 15,” he told the newspaper. Even if Glaentzer’s victim was 15, the priest would still have broken the law. Italy’s age of consent is 16 when one partner holds some kind of power and influence over the other, like a priest or teacher does.

The priest, who the interviewer noted seemed totally unbothered by the ongoing criminal case, said that has “entrusted myself to Jesus and Mary.”

The Catholic church has been rocked by a series of scandals recently. Last year it was revealed that almost 550 children in a choir led by the brother of former Pope Benedict XVI were abused, with 47 of them raped.

Last month, Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the former archbishop of Washington DC, resigned, facing a litany of sex abuse allegations, including sexual abuse of an altar boy and rape of two young trainee priests.

The news comes despite the head of the National Police Chief’s Council saying that vigilantes put kids at risk.

A Freedom of Information (FOI) request has revealed that evidence from online groups has been used 150 times by police forces in sexual-offence cases across the UK. A majority of police forces (67 percent) provided data.

Pedophile hunters are generally online groups that identify suspected sex offenders by posing as underage children. When they are approached by an adult, they lure them into conversation before organizing a meeting. The suspects are then confronted by vigilantes and exposed publicly as the encounter is often streamed on social media.

One pedophile hunter, Sarah from Predator Exposure, said their decoy is set up in such a way that there can be no misconception about the age of the child. She added: “I set a new decoy up one night, by the next morning I had had 180 friend requests, mostly from men. We’re only touching the tip of the iceberg, it’s right across social media. Even if we just take 20 out, those 20 aren’t going to be child rapists,” she told the BBC.

The figures emerge after Chief Constable of the National Police Chiefs’ Council Simon Bailey said the hunters’ activity risks aggravating situations. “Because, when they are undertaking these operations, they are not putting in place all the appropriate safeguards that we will put in place.

“They don’t understand the full background of the person they are targeting, they don’t understand their familial environment, what is going on in their lives. They’re not aware of any other children who may be at risk from these individuals,” Bailey told the BBC.

“I’m seeing on a regular basis the children of parents who’ve been caught are being exposed, family lives are being destroyed and operations are being compromised.”

A GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $ 24,000 for the father who attacked convicted pedophile Larry Nassar in court on Friday.

Randall Margraves attempted to get his hands on the disgraced US gymnastics team doctor, who has been sentenced to 175 years in prison, after his daughters gave victim impact statements detailing the abuse they suffered at the hands of Nassar.

The visibly upset dad first asked for “five minutes in a locked room with this demon” before rushing at Nassar, only to be tackled by police.

As he was led away from the courtroom, he shouted: “I want that son of a bitch… give me one minute with that bastard.”

In the aftermath of the dramatic scene a GoFundMe campaign was launched to help cover any legal costs Margraves could potentially face. The fundraiser had a goal of $ 1,000 but it quickly smashed that target and by Saturday morning it had already raised more than $ 24,000.

Because Margraves was not charged for the incident Aaron Pangborn, who set up the GoFundMe page, said he will work with the Margraves family to ensure the funds collected will go towards helping victims of sexual abuse.

However the Margraves’ lawyer said that the family had not authorized the fundraiser and suggested that donors should ask for a refund.

Margraves later apologized to the court for his outburst, saying he was devastated by hearing his daughters’ statements and he lost control. “I’m not here to upstage my daughters,” he said. “I’m here to help them heal.”

Eaton County Circuit Judge Janice Cunningham dismissed the idea that Margraves would face charges, saying: “There is no way this court is going to issue any type of punishment due to the circumstances of this case.”

In total Larry Nassar has been accused of sexual abuse by 265 women.

Police have made the grisly discovery of the dismembered body of a registered sex offender and his adult daughter. It is thought that the woman may have disturbed the killer chopping up her father’s corpse, resulting in her own grisly end.

Metropolitan Police officers forced their way into a home in New Butt Lane, Deptford, in the early hours of December 4, following a tip-off from a neighbor concerned for the welfare of the man living there.

Inside, police found the bodies of Noel Brown, 69, and his daughter Marie Brown, 41, a crèche worker from Southwark. Police believe Noel was murdered between November 30 and December 4 and his daughter may have been killed between December 2 and December 4.

An inquest held at Southwark Coroner’s Court on Monday heard that the provisional cause of death for Noel Brown was “neck compression” and his daughter’s injuries were also “consistent with neck compression.” Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.

Police believe the 69-year-old convicted pedophile may have been targeted by vigilantes or thugs who knew he had won significant sums at betting shops that he was known to frequent. Police have confirmed, however, that there were no signs of a break-in or robbery. They also said there was no evidence Brown had won large sums of money in the lead-up to his death.

DCI Simon Harding, the officer leading the investigation, urged anyone with information to come forward. “I urgently need the public’s help to establish the last movements of both Noel Brown and Marie Brown in the week before their deaths,” he said.

“Noel, in particular, was well known in the area, and he frequently used local betting shops. I want to hear from anyone who spent time with him or saw him at any point in the past week, especially if he was in the company of people with whom he didn’t normally associate.”

Detective Superintendent Paul Monk said there was no known motive for the gruesome double murder, and that Noel Brown’s 1999 conviction for sexually abusing two girls was not “screaming out” as a possible factor.

“The offence was a sex offence; he was convicted and served time and was released in 2004 but I’m not prepared to give any more details,” Monk told the Telegraph. “I don’t know whether he was dismembered at that point or whether he was dismembered after Marie was killed,” he added.

”There’s some attempt to cover up the crime; it’s a strong possibility that Marie had disturbed them. Attempts have been made to dismember his body. It’s possible Marie has made attempts to disturb that and it’s possible she’s been killed. There was no attempt to dismember Marie at all.”

Police want to speak to two men who visited Brown’s flat in the days before he died.

Are you a pedophile? This is how Philippines president launched his latest tirade against the country’s human rights commission chief, as Chito Gascon seemed to be only concerned about the teenage victims in the nation’s ongoing war on drugs, Rodrigo Duterte believes.

Duterte posed the question to Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Chairman Gascon while speaking in his home city of Davao on Saturday.

“This Gascon he is like a pedophile, son of a b***h. Why are you so fond of teenagers?” the Philippines president said. He then went on to question Gascon’s motives in a rambling onslaught.

“I now have my doubts. Are you gay or a pedophile? Why is this guy suffocated about the issue of young people, especially boys? Are you a pedophile? Do you want the young? You almost cry blood. Of course it’s repugnant. You are so fixated with young males. So I have doubts if you are a pedophile, you are stupid, idiot,” local media Philstar reports Duterte as saying.

Duterte has repeatedly clashed with the agency over his war on drugs policy which has to date claimed more than 7,000 lives, including those of several dozen teenagers.

Duterte then went on to criticize Gascon of not being concerned with other issues afflicting the Philippines, accusing him of serving as a pawn of the Liberal Party and other critics who want him out of the office.

“Every day in Marawi, there are terrorists raping women but you are not saying anything. Always teenager. Teenager, son of a b***h, it is all politics. Can’t you move to other issues that are besetting this country?” he added.

Duterte’s remarks came as his allies in the lower house of congress slashed the CHR’s budget for 2018. The commission had requested 1.72 billion pesos ($ 335119,47) for the upcoming year but the government allocated a measly sum of just 1,000 pesos ($ 20) for the CHR, effectively shutting down the commission.

Critics and opposition figures have suggested the move was retaliation for the commission’s investigation into the thousands of killings during the drug war over the past 15 months. Following the decision, a group of human rights lawyers, known as Artikulo 3, said they are planning to open a bank account to raise funds for CHR.

“We are thankful for the numerous queries and pledges received by Artikulo 3 from groups and individuals interested in donating to CHR. One individual even pledged a personal donation of P100,000 for the agency,” the group’s president Hilda Clave said.  

The president’s drug war is estimated to have killed thousands of people, drawing harsh criticism from rights groups. International NGOs including Human Rights Watch cited a total figure of more than 7,000 dead, while Amnesty International called Duterte “a human rights nightmare.”

His story was shared on the internet and caught the eye of university student Ekaterina Sobolevskaya, who then produced a film titled “My Story” about the orphan’s hardships. The film was submitted to a local competition, “Human rights 2016.”

“When I first heard his story, I could not contain emotions. Can you imagine such horrible things all happening to one single person? It wasn’t only child abuse, there were a lot of other things he had to live through,” the girl told St. Petersburg Channel 5 TV.

Her work was noticed by a local ombudsman, Aleksandr Shishlov, who sent it to a public prosecution office and pushed for an investigation.

Yakov’s revelations led to “the biggest case in decades related to sexual abuse of underage children,” the local Fontanka newspaper reported. For months, a special group of investigators studied social media profiles of those potentially involved in the case.

Several orphans had been “systematically” abused for years between 2005 and 2010, according to the Russian Investigative Committee.

Three orphanage workers, including a former head tutor, as well as two graduates, were arrested in connection with the case. A local court sanctioned a two-month arrest for the suspects. If found guilty, they face between 8-15 years behind bars.

Investigators suspect the group had organized a whole network which has been also involved in filming orphan boys for child porn.

The children were threatened to be sent to a mental health facility if they refused to please their abusers, Yakov told the media.

“Children are afraid of mental health facilities. In the orphanage, you immediately go to the mental hospital because of alleged bad behavior, brawl, any swear word, but in fact [they sent you there] because you refused to sleep with them,” Yakov told Russia’s Channel One.

There was no one to tell about the abuse, he said.

“Firstly, it was shameful to talk about it. And then, no one would believe you, as you are a mere pawn and he is from senior administration.”

One of the orphanage workers, mentioned by Yakov and now arrested, denied the allegations and said the young man just enjoys being in the spotlight.

“He likes to take part in different TV shows, to be ‘in the view,'” the former deputy director of the orphanage, Mikhail Yelin said, as cited by Rosbalt news agency.

Another suspect, who also denies all the allegations, is 70-year-old Stanislav Vinogradov, who used to be a supervisor at a special school for the orphans. He had been given an award “for humanisation of the school.” In 2008, he also received the title of an “Honored teacher of the Russian Federation,” according to Russian media.

The case prompted Russia’s Children’s Rights Commissioner for the President, Anna Kuznetsova, to call on the prosecution office to check all orphanages in St. Petersburg.

“The main question now is how such serious crimes could be systematically committed against children who are under permanent monitoring and special protection of the state,” she said.
