Character actor Clark Middleton, who had prominent roles on NBC’s The Blacklist and Showtime’s recent Twin Peaks revival, has died at the age of 63, our sister site Variety reports. “With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a life eminently worthy of celebration: Clark Tinsley Middleton, 63 — beloved actor, writer, director, teacher, hero, husband, beacon, friend,” his wife Elissa said in a statement. “Clark transitioned on October 4th as a result of West Nile Virus, for which there is no known cure. Clark was a beautiful soul who spent a lifetime defying limits and advocating for people with disabilities.” Middleton appeared in 13 episodes of The Blacklist as Glen Carter, a DMV employee who worked on the side as one of Raymond Reddington’s associates. He last appeared in the Season 7 episode “Newton Purcell.” The Blacklist creator Jon Bokenkamp said in a statement: “I’m heartbroken. Besides being a truly unique and gifted actor, Clark was simply an incredible guy in every way. He was a whip-smart film nut. He loved his work with a passion. And he was insanely generous of spirit… I know his entire family at The Blacklist is devastated by this news. Clark was one of the good ones, and we lost him way too soon.” Middleton also played Audrey Horne’s husband Charlie in the Twin Peaks revival, which aired in 2017, and is known for playing book store owner Edward Markham on the Fox sci-fi drama Fringe. His other TV credits include Law & Order, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Path.

Ether, the currency of the Ethereum network, has plunged 9 percent over the last 24 hours. The virtual currency is now worth about $ 290—the first time it has been below $ 300 this year.
The declining price is part of a broader cryptocurrency sell-off that saw most major cryptocurrencies lose value over the last 24 hours. And it’s part of a longer-term trend that has seen the gradual deflation of last year’s cryptocurrency bubble.
Bitcoin, the world’s most valuable currency, has lost only 1 percent of its value over the last 24 hours. But it has drifted steadily downward this year, falling from a high of almost $ 20,000 in mid-December to $ 6,250 today.

In The Mail Bag: Brayden G from Mineral Wells, Texas writes in:
“With the release of the Wonder Woman 1984 photos today it had me thinking of something. I know there’s tons of theories of how Steve Trevor might be there alive and or a ghost. Mine isn’t really a theory but what if they treated him being back like Diana in the first film. Diana was filled with this sense of wonder and amazement to the world and had Trevor there to guide her through and help her adjust to the world. What if they flipped it in 1984 where Trevor is the one that’s shocked and amazed that he’s this far in the future and he needs Diana’s help. She has been alive this whole time as we know so seeing her take lead and adjust him to the times could be a pretty cool flip on the first film and a little throwback.”

Austria’s Achensee is ideal for watersports
You’re wandering through a theme park, ice cream in hand, and the peaks rise up into the distance.

There are so many lakes and almost all have shingle beaches, often with water-sports.
Austria’s Achensee is the place for gentle canoeing or kayaking, stand-up paddle-boarding or even learning how to waterski or wakeboard.
The north end of Lake Garda in Italy, with its rugged backdrop, is another water-sports haven and the place for windsurfing lessons.
In Garda’s south, around the resorts of Sirmione and Bardolino, you can rent a motorboat to head off to a quiet spot for a dip.
——————————————————————————–
Go white water rafting down the rapids on the river Ziller in the lively Austrian town of Mayrhofen, or in beautiful Bohinj in Slovenia.
Or try canyoning – this energetic mix of clambering, climbing, jumping and wild swimming in gorges is on offer across Austria as well as in the hills above Lake Garda’s Torbole and Riva.
Perfect for adventurous teenagers.

Many hotels in Italy and Austria have bikes to rent or even borrow – try Strandhotel Margaretha, this warm traditional hotel with a cool, modern twist is just off the promenade in lakeside St Wolfgang.
There are easy-going cycle paths in so many other resorts too.
Pedal sedately along one of Lake Garda’s boardwalks – the Bardolino to Garda stretch is idyllic – or take a chairlift up and cycle back down in Austria’s Bad Hofgastein.
Electric bikes are popular too, letting you whirr up to magical viewpoints.

Children of all ages will be excited by mountain walks, not least amid the red rock grandeur of Italy’s Dolomites.
Local tourist cards let you use mountain lifts. Stroll back down or parasail– parachute off the mountain with an instructor.
Get roped up with a guide for the Italian favourite “via ferrata”, dizzying mountain routes of ladders, cables and bridges.
Take to the treetops, too, with high ropes courses in Austrian resorts such as Saalbach and St Johann.

Gardaland (sister to British favourites such as Alton Towers) is one of Europe’s biggest theme parks, everything from Peppa Pig to roller coasters, while Caneva Aquapark is a wild, wet experience.
They’re along the road from each other on Lake Garda, walkable from the resorts of Lazise and Peschiera, a bus ride from others such as Sirmione and Desenzano.

Fortnite week 6 challenges went live in the season 3 Battle Pass earlier this week, with the Mountain Peaks and Metal Bridge tasks two big highlights.
As with all Fortnite weekly challenges, fans need to complete four out of the seven tasks to net a 4,000XP reward.
The ‘Search between a Metal Bridge, Three Billboards, and a Crashed Bus’ is a hard difficulty Fortnite challenge.
It will net players 10 Battle Stars upon completion.
While the ‘Summit different Mountain Peaks’ task is a regular difficulty Fortnite challenge, and will reward players with five Battle Stars.
If you’re stuck in Fortnite on these challenges, follow the Express.co.uk guides below
MOUNTAIN PEAKS FORTNITE – HOW TO SOLVE THE ‘SUMMIT DIFFERENT MOUNTAIN PEAKS’ CHALLENGE
The Mountain Peaks Fortnite challenge tasks players with climbing 10 different mountain peaks on the Battle Royale map.
While it may seem straightforward, there are some tips and tricks which can help Fortnite fans complete the challenge as fast as possible.
YouTuber Xrayz published a video outlining where all the Mountain Peaks are in the Fortnite Battle Royale map.

Fortnite week 6 challenges – Highlights include the Mountain Peaks and Metal Bridge tasks
He explained how there are specific clusters of mountains that you can visit on the Fortnite map to help you complete the challenge as soon as possible.
Firstly, there are a generous number of mountains around the Wailing Woods, Tomato Town and Lonely Lodge area of the Fortnite Battle Royale map.
The Pleasant Park region also has a selection of mountain-climbing opportunities.
Some of these are the tallest on the map too.
Also, towards Shifty Shafts, Salty Springs and Fatal Fields Fortnite players will find a number of big and small peaks.
METAL BRIDGE, THREE BILLBOARDS AND CRASHD BUS FORTNITE – HOW TO SOLVE THE WEEK 6 CHALLENGE
The Metal Bridge, Three Billboards and Crashed Bus Fortnite Battle Royale challenge is one of three hard difficulty tasks in the Battle Pass this week.
Completing the Fortnite week 6 challenge will net you 10 Battle Stars.
And as always with Fortnite weekly challenges, players need to complete four out of the seven tasks to get the 4,000XP reward.
You can complete the “search between a Metal Bridge, Three Billboards, and a Crashed Bus” Fortnite challenge on your own without any additional help from your squad.
To start with, get on the Battle Bus and then head towards the southwestern section of the Fortnite Battle Royale map.
You will want to dive out in the vicinity of Shifty Shafts, which is not too far from Greasy Grove.
As you’re diving down you should be able to see a huge, brown bridge spanning the road.
That metal bridge, in between Shifty Shafts and Salty Springs, is the spot you’re looking for.
Nearby, you will see the Crashed Bus and Three Billboards mentioned in the Fortnite challenge’s name.
In between these three landmarks you will find the gold star you are looking for.
The exact location you are looking for is just south of the metal bridge you spotted when jumping out of the Battle Bus.
The gold star will be on a bare patch of earth raised up on a small hill with a couple of trees on.
It’s in square E7 on the Fortnite Battle Royale map.

Kyle MacLachlan was on a Television Critics Association panel for the upcoming final season of Portlandia with Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. After the panel, /Film was able to ask him about coming back to Twin Peaks: The Return, including his initial reaction to the character of Dougie. Plus, MacLachlan offered his own thoughts on the possibility of Twin Peaks season 4.
“I read the whole script in one fell swoop and the Dougie character was really intriguing,” MacLachlan said. “To read it was one thing but when we finally put it on its feet and got the physicality of that character in place, which happened as we were close to starting, it became really clear. I really trusted David because you just hope that what you’re doing is resonating the way it’s supposed to and not something that’s going to put people off, which maybe it did in the beginning. I think gradually people began to embrace Dougie as the show went on each episode. I think people came to realize that if Cooper comes back, then Dougie disappears and people began to really love Dougie.”
When the real Cooper finally emerged, MacLachlan felt a tad rusty but quickly got his groove back.
“It was great,” he said. “I was excited to get him back. It wasn’t until the 16th hour so I was a little concerned that I [could] remember what I was doing, but it all came back in a great way.”
During Showtime’s TCA sessions, Showtime President David Nevins said he won’t ask David Lynch when he will do more Twin Peaks. Nevins feels he should wait until Lynch comes to him on his own. MacLachlan echoes Nevins’ sentiments.
“David’s process is his own,” MacLachlan said. “He will come to it if he comes to it, in his own time. That could be 10 minutes, it could be 10 years. I don’t know. If we do decide to go again I would be absolutely excited to revisit doing it again. Those characters are always fascinating.”
The ambiguous ending of Twin Peaks: The Return certainly leaves room for more, although that could be said for any David Lynch ending. MacLachlan is certainly not itching for more resolution.
“I have my own take on it, my thoughts about it as everyone has their own individual, which is really what David wants,” MacLachlan said. “David’s more about you experiencing the choices that he makes rather than trying to live up to something or fulfill something that you, as an audience, are expecting. So we all are just on the journey together.”
You can see Kyle MacLachlan again when Portlandia returns for its final season January 18, 2018 at 10pm on IFC.

Showtime President David Nevins spoke with the Television Critics Association this weekend and inevitably he was pressed for Twin Peaks news by the reporters in attendance. Unfortunately, Nevins said he has not asked David Lynch about another season at all. But that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. The Showtime boss certainly hasn’t give up on the prospect of more Twin Peaks.
Find out what Showtime had to say about the possibility of Twin Peaks season 4 below.
“We haven’t [asked Lynch yet],” Nevins said. “We’ve only had conversations about the previous season. I have not done it yet. I know better. He’s not a guy who’s going to be swayed by salesmanship.”
While it may be a while before we see a fourth season of Twin Peaks on Showtime, fans can continue to experience Twin Peaks in other ways. There is currently a pop-up restaurant modeled after the show’s Double R Diner in Los Angeles. Nevins is interested in continuing the Twin Peaks experience this way.
“There’s enormous promotional interest,” Nevins said. “There’s enormous consumer product interest, so yes. More than most of our shows, Twin Peaks has a consumer products angle that we’re not used to seeing. I don’t know if anyone’s been to the place on Melrose, the Road House. There’s constant interest in Twin Peaks and that’s one of the things we do talk to David about. I want him to have total control over every exploitation of the show.”
During the panel, Showtime’s President of Programming Gary Levine elaborated on the waiting game the network will play with Lynch and co-creator Mark Frost.
“We’re thrilled with Twin Peaks,” Levine said. “The work was extraordinary, the fan reaction was extraordinary and it was incredibly good for our brand. Remember it took 25 years for Mark and David to go from 1.0 to 2.0. Add to that, what David did in the last few years was nothing short of Herculean. To direct 18 episodes of television belongs in the Guinness book, and wrote, and starred and edited and composed. It’s a Herculean task and he did it so beautifully, I don’t know how soon he wants to do it. The door at Showtime is always open to Mark and David for Twin Peaks or anything else they want to talk about.”
If there are any updates on Twin Peaks season 4, we’ll be sure to let you know.

After a grueling day of over 12 hours of press for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Laura Dern nursed a cup of coffee and settled in for an extended chat with a very different crowd: the Film Society of Lincoln Center. The event took place at 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 14, meaning everyone in attendance had deliberately foregone taking in the first showing of the new Star Wars movie.
But there was still plenty of chatter surrounding her role as Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, the flashy topper on not only a great year, but a great set of years. After a relatively quiet first decade of the 2000s, Dern has reestablished herself as a titan of both the small and silver screen. In 2017 alone, she won an Emmy for her fierce portrayal of Renata Klein in HBO’s Big Little Lies, reunited with her longtime collaborator David Lynch in Showtime’s Twin Peaks: The Return, and now features prominently in what will almost assuredly become the year’s top grossing film.
While the Film Society of Lincoln Center dedicated an entire day of programming to some of her early works (Joyce Chopra’s Smooth Talk, David Lynch’s Wild at Heart and Alexander Payne’s Citizen Ruth), her 90-minute talk focused exclusively on her work over the past few years. The wide-ranging discussion covered how she landed some of her recent roles, her experiences working with an eclectic set of directors and some of her thoughts on the industry at large.
Dern said she found it quite easy to abide by the strict rules of Star Wars spoiler culture thanks to preparation she received over 30 years ago:
“I can say how lucky I am to have found David Lynch at 17. When I first met him and had to do press for him differently than other directors, preceding that, he said, ‘Your job is to tell them NOTHING!’ So it was a seamless transition into Star Wars.”
Dern grew up a big fan of the Star Wars series and she recounted how The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson approached her to journey to a galaxy far, far away:
“One of my favorite memories of talking to a filmmaker is that I was asked to lunch by Rian Johnson […] I had seen his film Looper, which I thought was quite brilliant and he was an interesting independent filmmaker. He had written a role that he was interested in talking to me about and had thought of me as he was writing, which is a great compliment. He described the role as complicated, powerful woman in a position of power in which there is a deep grey area. Whether she is light or dark, and what her real moral compass is. I was like, ‘Oh, this sounds like my kind of part!’ And he said, ‘You know in this world, Star Wars…’ I said well, ‘That’s so interesting, imagining this kind of contained film in that world, sort of like space, meaning it’s boundary-less.’ And he said, ‘No, no, no. It is Star Wars!’”
While the Internet has gone gaga over the novelty of “Space Dern,” the look of Vice Admiral Holdo was very deliberately designed to put Dern’s gender front and center:
“In considering what she should look like, Rian is so brilliant and subversive in a really beautiful way […] it was really important to him that we create a really feminine leader and what that might do to everyone around her. The hair, the space jewelry, the dress… [I worked with costume designer] Michael [Kaplan], Kathy Kennedy was very involved, Ram [Bergman] his producing partner since they started in independent film. Everyone weighed in, but I loved the idea that this position of power, this female powerful leader, immediately throws people off because she comes in looking like a woman and not like one of the boys. It’s a great starting place in space.”
Without giving away the details of the time they share on screen, Dern also spoke movingly about the time she spent with Carrie Fisher:
“She’s incredible. As much as you might try to attempt in your art to let go of the veil and try to be your most authentic self, there is no greater teacher than Carrie. Reflecting on this last year, Wonder Woman being one of the films where people were in awe of a complicated, dynamic female superhero, to think back on the mid-’70s, Carrie Fisher gave us a complicated, sassy, brazen, angry, beautiful female superhero. It’s just remarkable. Having been around her, she leads with an unapologetic self. That is who she presented to the world. And her own complications as a person, in her writing, she was extraordinary. Regardless of what you think is honest, the minute Carrie enters into the room, she requires that level from all of you. It changes the entire space that you’re in. It’s very beautiful, and I feel privileged.”
“Maybe I’m weird,” Dern replied when asked about why she opted to work with artists like David Lynch and Peter Bogdanovich in the ’80s while her teenage peers headlined films for John Hughes.
In her capacity as one of the few people to speak Lynchian dialogue fluently, she sums up his work as “honest and simple and totally off-kilter and the ultimate dive into the shadow […] David holds equally true the genuine and the insane.” When asked her thoughts on Twin Peaks: The Return, Dern sang the praises of her director:
“I think David Lynch is our greatest artist working. Everything that I’ve had the privilege being part of, it can take a decade for people to catch up and have deep gratitude for it. But if we’re looking for the boundary breaker and someone who is exploring cinema and sound and music and character and fine art into this medium, with not only zero boundary but zero consideration for if it’s going to work, is there an audience for it, will it be seen, how do we present it. He’s just in it. And I’m so grateful to get to work around someone like that. He comes from the purest place. And he learns every day, and he wants to push himself. And he makes art every day.”
As an actor with the privilege to work for many great directors on a continuing basis, and others just on a one-off project, Dern says that relationship with Lynch allows for a particularly special kind of working relationship:
“I think there are a few where you get each other in a very specific kind of way where there needs no language. That’s the best. But with that said, there are filmmakers who know exactly what they want, and it’s the greatest inspiration in the world. Paul Thomas Anderson [her director in 2012’s The Master] knows exactly what he wants. He’s meticulous and an insane inventor like nothing you’ve ever seen, and that’s also extraordinary and a different energy. I don’t know that actors change what they do, but maybe they pretend to listen to people? David is just so particular because he knows me so well and only gives me one word direction. He’d kill me if I tried to have a conversation about the character. He’s like, ‘I need wind.’”
Like everyone else watching, Dern had little idea where Twin Peaks: The Return was going on a week-by-week basis:
“There were a few storylines where David showed me some scenes early on, and I watched the filming of a few specific things. I had some friends who were musicians that did some of the pieces in it. I got to be around a lot of it to know where it was going, but specifics of scripted pages, there was so much I didn’t know [until air].”
Lynch was apparently plugged into fan reaction to the show enough to send Dern this meme of her character Diane:
