New details have surfaced regarding Kimberly Guilfoyle’s abrupt, July 2018 exit from Fox News and the allegations of inappropriate behavior — including sexual misconduct — that precipitated it.

At the time of Guilfoyle’s split with Fox News (where she had worked since 2006 and most notably co-hosted The Five), she tried to spin it as her own decision. But a July 2018 expose by HuffPo, based on interviews with 21 sources, revealed that allegations of misconduct had triggered an investigation by Fox’s HR department, which eventually led to Guilfoyle’s negotiated departure.

Flash-forward to a 3,600-word report by the New Yorker, published Thursday, which details a 42-page draft complaint made by one of Guilfoyle’s former assistants in November 2018. In the document, the onetime staffer accused Guilfoyle of repeated sexual harassment, and demanded monetary relief from Fox News. The New Yorker reports that Fox News agreed to pay the assistant “upward of $ 4 million” to avoid going to trial.

Guilfoyle — who is now a top fundraising official for President Trump’s reelection campaign, is Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend, and who enjoyed a choice speaking spot at this summer’s Republican National Convention — said in a statement to the New Yorker, “In my 30-year career working for the SF District Attorney’s Office, the LA District Attorney’s Office, in media and in politics, I have never engaged in any workplace misconduct of any kind. During my career, I have served as a mentor to countless women, with many of whom I remain exceptionally close to this day.”

The New Yorker‘s detailed account of the draft complaint reveals, among other things, that Guilfoyle’s former assistant allegedly:

* Was subject to degrading, abusive, and sexually inappropriate behavior
* Was often required to work at Guilfoyle’s New York apartment “while the Fox host displayed herself naked”
* Was shown “photographs of the genitalia of men with whom Guilfoyle had had sexual relations”
* Was told by Guilfoyle to submit to a Fox employee’s demands for sexual favors, and was encouraged to sleep with wealthy and powerful men
* Was asked her to critique Guilfoyle’s naked body

The former assistant also alleged that Guilfoyle offered her cash and other perks in trade for her lying to the lawyers who were retained by Fox News in July 2016 to investigate larger issues of sexual misconduct at the company. When said overture was rebuffed, Guilfoyle allegedly warned the assistant that “some aspects of [her] private life… might be exposed.”

The week has gone from bad to worse for US President Donald Trump’s embattled lawyer Michael Cohen after damning reports of yet another high-profile ‘hush money’ sex scandal within the RNC emerged Friday.

Cohen reportedly negotiated a $ 1.6 million confidentiality deal in 2017 between the former RNC deputy finance chair and LA-based venture capitalist Elliott Broidy, 60, and a former Playboy model, who claims he impregnated her. Broidy tendered his resignation on Friday afternoon in the wake of the explosive report by the Wall Street Journal.

“I acknowledge I had a consensual relationship with a Playboy Playmate,” Broidy said in a statement, as cited by the WSJ. “At the end of our relationship, this woman shared with me that she was pregnant. She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this difficult period.”

“It is unfortunate that this personal matter between two consenting adults is the subject of national discussion just because of Michael Cohen’s involvement,” Broidy added. “Mr. Cohen reached out to me after being contacted by this woman’s attorney, Keith Davidson. Although I had not previously hired Mr. Cohen, I retained Mr. Cohen after he informed me about his prior relationship with Mr. Davidson.”

The matter might have remained personal, as the relations between a California businessman and a Playmate is nothing unusual in Tinseltown, but Broidy reportedly helped raise over $ 108 million in funding for Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and donated more than $ 160,000 to the RNC last year. Both Cohen and Broidy were appointed to the post of Republican National Convention chairman in April 2017. Cohen remains in his position for the time being, but as the investigatory screws turn, he may soon be forced out.

According to the WSJ report, the sum of $ 1.6 million was due to be paid to the unnamed former Playboy model in quarterly installments over a period of two years. The scandal places even more pressure and scrutiny on President Trump’s lawyer and self-described fixer, Michael Cohen, following raids on his offices earlier this week by federal law enforcement officers.

Federal investigators are reportedly sifting through Cohen’s records seized in the raids to check for evidence of bank fraud, but they have also stumbled upon a veritable treasure trove of ‘thousands of privileged communications,” according to Cohen’s lawyer, Todd Harrison. Cohen’s team was accused of employing delay tactics and wildly overboard claims about attorney-client privilege, in order to obtain a temporary restraining order to stall the investigation. Cohen has been ordered to appear in court Monday.

The revelations could not have come at worse time for the Trump administration and his legal team, given the allegations made by former adult film star Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels, that Cohen paid her $ 130,000 to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), preventing her from discussing the details of an alleged sexual encounter with Trump in 2006.

Both the White House and Cohen have denied such an encounter took place, though a legal battle is ongoing to determine the validity of the NDA. Interestingly, both Broidy and Trump’s alleged NDAs use the same pseudonyms, David Dennison and Peggy Peterson.

The lawyer representing the woman who Broidy allegedly had the sexual relationship with also negotiated a $ 150,000 payment to another former Playboy model, Karen McDougal, for the rights to her story of an alleged affair with Donald Trump.

Cash-strapped Zimbabwe has reportedly offered a $ 10 million payout to deposed President Robert Mugabe, while his wife will receive a generous pension after his death, and his children’s businesses won’t be touched by the incoming administration.

“The government will give him a $ 5 million lump sum and then the remainder to be paid out in instalments,” a source told the Zimbabwe Independent, whose report has since been confirmed by other media outlets. “Mugabe will also enjoy full medical cover as well as his full monthly salary. In the event of his death, his wife will be given half [his monthly salary].”

Mugabe, 93, currently receives a $ 150,000 annual pension, which will be partly inherited by his 52-year-old second wife Grace Mugabe, who is pejoratively known as “Gucci Grace” among some Zimbabweans. The two are expected to stay in the Blue Roof mansion in Harare, with the state still paying all travel, security and staff expenses for the couple.

The property of both of Mugabe’s children, and his wife’s son Russell from a previous marriage “will not be seized or in any way molested,” the Guardian reports. Mugabe’s extended family owns a range of dairy farms, and has notable interests in the country’s mining industry.

“I was worried about what the changes would mean for me personally, but I am now reassured that I can live on in my country,” one of Mugabe’s relatives, who did not wish to make his name public, told the publication. 

Despite opposition protests that no politician should be above the law, Mugabe and his family have also been granted immunity from any legal prosecution for his actions during his 37 years in office.

The Zimbabwe Independent stated that it was the protracted negotiations between the ailing Mugabe’s mediators, including a prominent Jesuit priest, and the military faction that has seized power that held up his resignation in the past weeks, rather than any desire on the part of the president to remain in his post.

The interim president, the 75-year-old Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was a close Mugabe ally and henchman for decades, has promised to avoid “vengeful retribution” against the toppled ruling clan, and has vowed to stage a democratic election next year.

According to IMF statistics, Zimbabwe’s GDP per capita puts it outside the world’s 150 wealthiest states, while its life expectancy of 60 years is 20 years below that of the US. It is estimated that some 13.5 percent of the population are infected with HIV.

If there is a “sweet spot” for blockchain, it will likely be the ability to turn insights and questions into assets. Blockchains will give you greater confidence in the integrity of the data you see. Immutable entries, consensus-driven timestamping, audit trails, and certainty about the origin of data (e.g. a sensor or a kiosk) are all areas where you will see improvement as blockchain technology becomes more mainstream.

Beyond data integrity (which is a huge component), the shared data layer that blockchains will introduce creates an entirely new set of possibilities for AI capabilities and insights. Trent McConaghy, CTO of BigChainDB does a great job in explaining the benefits of decentralized/
shared control, particularly as a foundation for AI. In this world, he says, you get:
• More data, thus improved modelling capabilities
• Qualitatively new data leading to entirely new models.

The inherent immutability leads to more confidence in training and testing data and the models they produce.

We are also likely to see blockchain-based technology make an impact in the cost of storing data and in the amount (and quality) of data available. Cost savings in data storage will come from the disintermediation of centralized storage providers, thus reducing the “trust tax” you pay them currently. This should also create downward pricing pressure on SaaS suppliers as they move to decentralized storage providers.

You can expect to see decentralized solutions like Storj, Sia, MaidSafe, and FileCoin start to gain some initial traction in the enterprise storage space. [Disclosure: Storj was previously a client of mine.] One enterprise pilot phase rollout indicates this decentralized approach could reduce the costs of storing data by 90 percent compared to AWS.
As for blockchain-driven AI, you can expect to see a three phase roll-out. First, within the existing enterprise. Then, within the ecosystem. Finally, totally open systems. The entire industry might be termed blockchains for big data (McConaghy’s words).

Longer term, we will see an expansion of the concept of big data, as we move from proprietary data silos to blockchain-enabled shared data layers. In the first epoch of big data, power resided with those who owned the data. In the blockchain epoch of big data, power will reside with those who can access the most data (where public blockchains will ultimately defeat private blockchains) and who can gain the most insights most rapidly.

There are two significant implications here:
• Customer data will not belong to organizations, locked away in corporate databases. It will belong to each individual, represented as tokens or coins on an identity blockchain. The customer of the future will grant access to others as necessary.
• Transaction data will be viewable by anyone. Anyone can access the data about the transactions that occur on a given blockchain. (For example, here are the latest Bitcoin transactions.)

When data moves out of proprietary systems onto open blockchains, having the data itself is no longer a competitive advantage. Interpreting the data becomes the advantage. In a blockchain world, all competitors are looking at the same ledger (imagine you and your competitors all have the Google Sheet or Excel file).

Anyone can provide an interface to that ledger. That’s relatively easy. That’s what you see here for Ethereum or zCash.

And many companies will provide applications that enable a customer to interact with a protocol. This is what Jaxx or BitPay do, for Bitcoin.

Yet, there are very few companies that provide a set of analytic capabilities that suck up all of this data and explain what it all means or what should be done about it. Fewer still have figured out the scalable process for doing this. This is the opportunity. Some have called it the “Data Industrialization Opportunity.”

Simply put, it is the question of who can put the best AI/machine learning solution on top of open, shared, blockchain-based data layers. Whoever does that gains some degree of competitive advantage. If a Bitcoin wallet, for example, instead of being “dumb” (as it is now) is actually “smart” — in the sense that it can advise or help customers make sense of the world (based on all the data available on the blockchain) — that one will be market leader.

The world’s top 50 physical mining companies are worth about $ 700 billion. You can expect to see blockchain-based data mining companies that will easily take us into trillions of dollars of market capitalization, although, granted, this may be many years off.
