Gabrielle Union is going to kick everyone’s ass in Breaking In, a new thriller that plays out like a reverse Panic Room. When Union’s kids are taken hostage in a high-tech house, her only recourse is to beat the hell out of literally everyone in her way. The new Breaking In trailer is here, and it looks glorious.

Hey, this looks fun! An action thriller that combines both Panic Room and one of those classic ’90s action movies where a team of bad guys discover they messed with the wrong person at the wrong time. In Breaking In, Gabrielle Union has a very special set of skills, and those skills include punching and kicking everyone who stands in the way of her and her children. Please enjoy the following Breaking In trailer responsibly.

Breaking In trailer

This trailer has everything! Explosions! Danger! Tension! A smart house! A generic bad guy saying, “YO!” Gabrielle Union saying, “I’m just a mom, you have no clue what I’m capable of!” And then there’s that amazing tagline: Payback Is A Mother. Yes, hell yes – put this movie in front of my face. Here’s the Breaking In synopsis:

Next Mother’s Day, Gabrielle Union stars as a woman who will stop at nothing to rescue her two children being held hostage in a house designed with impenetrable security. No trap, no trick and especially no man inside can match a mother with a mission when she is determined on Breaking In.

Oh, Christ, and it comes out on Mother’s Day, too? This is perfect. Good work, everyone behind Breaking In. James McTeigue, who helmed V For Vendetta, directs the film, with a screenplay by Ryan Engle, based on a story by Jaime Primak Sullivan. Union produced the film along with James Lopez, Craig Perry, Sheila Hanahan Taylor and Will Packer. In addition to Union, the cast that includes Billy Burke (the Twilight series), Richard Cabral (End of Watch), Seth Carr (Black Panther) and Ajiona Alexus (Empire).

Please, everyone go see this movie so it can launch a franchise where Gabrielle Union keeps having to beat the crap out of people. There are so many other places her character can be locked out of and then have to smash her way into! A museum! A cruise ship! An opera! A funeral! The possibilities are endless. Give us the Breaking In, franchise, Hollywood. We’ve earned it.

Breaking In breaks into theaters May 11, 2018.

If you’re like us, the car availability is one of the big draws, and it features the Mazda RX-7 Spirit R, Plymouth Barracuda, Nissan Skyline 2000 GTR, BMW M3 Evolution II E30, and two Volvos, the 242DL and Amazon P130. Similar to the derelict cars, which were barn finds that required you to find the chassis and parts across the map, these are called “abandoned cars” that you’ll have to find and take home. And when you do pick them up, you’ll have to escape a police chase to keep them and unlock them in the dealerships. The RX-7 will be the first one available, with the other cars coming later.

Another of the content updates is all for BMWs. Each of the BMWs in the game will now be customizable with official BMW M Performance accessories. These include everything from bumpers to grilles, depending on the model of BMW. Both the abandoned cars and the BMW accessories are free updates for all players with any version of the game.

One other piece of content is a entirely new game mode with a complete single-player series of events. It’s called Speedcross, and based on the video above, it looks like it’s something like Ken Block’s gymkhana stunt runs. The goal of the event type is to have the best score, which is earned from doing drifts, jumps, going through speed traps at high speed, and smashing stuff. In these events, you’ll apparently face off with opponents from previous Need for Speed games such as Underground, Most Wanted and Carbon. This update also comes with two completely new cars to the game, the Mini Countryman John Cooper Works and the Infiniti Q60. Unlike the aforementioned updates, the Speedcross update will cost money to download if you own a basic version of Payback. Owners of the “Deluxe Edition” will get the content for free. All of these updates become available on December 19.

EA is addressing the loot boxes in ‘Need for Speed: Payback,’ too https://briefnews.eu/ea-is-addressing-the-loot-boxes-in-need-for-speed-payback-too/ https://briefnews.eu/ea-is-addressing-the-loot-boxes-in-need-for-speed-payback-too/#respond Thu, 23 Nov 2017 23:53:36 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ea-is-addressing-the-loot-boxes-in-need-for-speed-payback-too/

Most of the headlines surrounding Electronic Arts this fall have been about the loot box situation in Star Wars: Battlefront II. But Need for Speed: Payback has been dealing with the same pay-to-win progression issues since it launched a few weeks ago too. More than that, the game is an unstable mess and barely functions on Xbox hardware. Developer Ghost Games is addressing both of those with Payback‘s first big updates.

Specifically, Ghost is paring the time it takes for upgrade parts to appear in tune-up shops by 66 percent. What used to take 30 minutes will only take 10 from here on out. Money and reputation from winning events is getting bumped too, and that goes for non-first-place finishes too. All that to say, it shouldn’t feel like your hand is forced to buy loot boxes with real-world money just to advance in the game.

What’s going to take some time though, are fixes for game stability and performance. Ghost says that patch will arrive “soon,” but that once it does, there will be tweaks to the types of parts tune-up shops offer and better parts from winning events, too.

Ghost says to keep an eye on its social channels for news on when that will drop. Until then, just play something else. The racing in Payback is fine, but with how much of a mess it is from a tech standpoint (not to mention how awful the dialog and writing is) you’re better off spending your time with a better game.

Need for Speed: Payback can’t avoid its own bankruptcy https://briefnews.eu/need-for-speed-payback-cant-avoid-its-own-bankruptcy/ https://briefnews.eu/need-for-speed-payback-cant-avoid-its-own-bankruptcy/#respond Sat, 11 Nov 2017 23:08:55 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/need-for-speed-payback-cant-avoid-its-own-bankruptcy/

Despite being an overall fantastic year for games, 2017 has brought some real lemons in the racing world. Need for Speed: Payback should have been poised to flip that narrative. The once-annual series had a year off to center itself and looked like it was leaning into a promising premise—a Fast and Furious-like tale of professional car thieves/street racers. The stars seemed downright aligned to light the way for Need for Speed’s comeback.

Unfortunately, even next to relatively weak Gran Turismo and Forza releases, Payback might just be the worst major racing game this year. It’s certainly the worst Need for Speed in some time, which is saying something given the series’ own flailing in the last few years.

Sanitary revenge

The game’s issues begin almost immediately, with the revenge plot that gives Payback its name. It’s an almost comically low-stakes setup in which one member of a gang of five street-racing heroes betrays the others over a Koenigsegg Regera (that’s a fancy sort of car). Nobody dies, goes to prison, or is grievously hurt over it. The betrayed gang members just get different jobs—as a getaway driver, mechanic, valet, and stunt driver for YouTube celebrities, respectively.

That indignity is apparently worth the gang getting back together and plotting life-or-death raids against “The House,” a vaguely criminal organization that wants to rig all gambling in Fortune Valley (aka “Fake Las Vegas”). All such raiding involves street racing of some form or another, because that’s what a Need for Speed must be about, regardless of any seemingly unrelated MacGuffins the plot wraps around it.

PS4 Pro E3 update reveals Need for Speed Payback support with Scorpio, nothing for Switch https://briefnews.eu/ps4-pro-e3-update-reveals-need-for-speed-payback-support-with-scorpio-nothing-for-switch/ https://briefnews.eu/ps4-pro-e3-update-reveals-need-for-speed-payback-support-with-scorpio-nothing-for-switch/#respond Sun, 11 Jun 2017 11:08:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ps4-pro-e3-update-reveals-need-for-speed-payback-support-with-scorpio-nothing-for-switch/

Need for Speed Payback support for the PS4 Pro was confirmed today following its full reveal during Saturday’s EA Play event.

The new racing title is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 10, 2017, and will also support Project Scorpio.

News of both was revealed by Need for Speed: Payback executive producer Marcus Nilsson, who also answered questions on a potential version for the Nintendo Switch.

“I love the Switch; I absolutely adore it,” he told Gamespot.

“Would that be a platform that Need for Speed: Payback could run on? I don’t see why [not], but it’s not something we’re looking to at this very moment,” he revealed.

It sounds like a pretty strong no for the time being, with not much incentive for developers Ghost Games to return at a later date.

Need for Speed Payback on the PS4 Pro is one of the first big announcements for Sony’s upgraded console.

There’s going to be plenty more coming this week too, with Bethesda, Ubisoft and finally Sony, likely to confirm new projects for the machine.

A new Need for Speed Payback trailer was shown during the EA Play event on Saturday, giving a new glimpse at some of the gameplay being worked on, including a big highway heist.

“The crew (Tyler, Jess and Mac) have learned that The House are transporting a car equipped with a new piece of technology that may be a key component in bringing them down. This calls for one thing: acquire the car, get hold of the tech and dent The House’s plans.”

“The Highway Heist is one of the set piece moments that takes place within Need for Speed Payback’s single player campaign, which follows the story of Tyler, Jess and Mac as they set out to bring down The House.

“Alongside the Highway Heist and other memorable moments you’ll be able to build your perfect ride. Customize the car of your dreams, both visually and its performance, into one of five distinct car classes; Race, Drift, Off-Road, Drag and Runner.

“Turn a piece of scrap into a piece of art, and use it to tear up the streets and countryside of Fortune Valley.”

Need for Speed 2017 REVEALED: Payback release date announced ahead of EA Play at E3 2017 https://briefnews.eu/need-for-speed-2017-revealed-payback-release-date-announced-ahead-of-ea-play-at-e3-2017/ https://briefnews.eu/need-for-speed-2017-revealed-payback-release-date-announced-ahead-of-ea-play-at-e3-2017/#respond Fri, 02 Jun 2017 13:16:52 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/need-for-speed-2017-revealed-payback-release-date-announced-ahead-of-ea-play-at-e3-2017/

Need for Speed Payback has been announced ahead of the EA Play E3 2017 event in Los Angeles.

The 2017 Need for Speed game has a November 10 release date for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Described as an explosive adventure, Payback is said to include a series of heist missions, car battles, cop pursuits and “jaw dropping set pieces”.

Players will also be able to build their ideal ride thanks to extensive customisation options.

“Need for Speed returns this year to challenge what players expect from racing games,” said Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer.

“We’re still delivering everything our fans love about the franchise – the deepest customization, an impressive roster of cars, intense races and open world pursuits – but with Need for Speed Payback, we’re bringing together all those elements in an all new blockbuster driving experience.

“From the story, to the different characters you can drive as, to the varied missions, to the edge-of-your-seat moments, this is our vision for what action driving entertainment means today.”

You can check out a selection of Need for Speed Payback screenshots in the gallery below…

Need for Speed payback takes place in an open-world city called Fortune Valley.

Players will be able to drive as three different characters in a story of revenge against a criminal cartel.

“Set in the underworld of Fortune Valley, players will drive as three distinct characters reunited by a quest for vengeance against The House, a nefarious cartel that rules the city’s casinos, criminals and cops,” reads an EA statement.

“They will take on a variety of challenges and events as Tyler, the Racer; Mac, the Showman; and Jess, the Wheelman to earn the respect of the underground.

“Featuring the deepest customization from the series, players can truly craft a personalized and unique ride, or spend hours finding and tuning an abandoned derelict into a supercar.”

Players will also be able to earn more in-game credits by betting on their own performance in races.

EA has confirmed that pre-order customers will receive the Need for Speed Payback Platinum Car Pack.

This includes five customised vehicles with exclusive platinum blue tire smoke.

The full list of cars is as follows…

  • Nissan 350Z 2008
  • Chevrolet Camaro SS 1967
  • Dodge Charger R/T 1969
  • Ford F-150 Raptor 2016
  • Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport 2016

‘Need for Speed Payback’ adds higher stakes and familiar ideas https://briefnews.eu/need-for-speed-payback-adds-higher-stakes-and-familiar-ideas/ https://briefnews.eu/need-for-speed-payback-adds-higher-stakes-and-familiar-ideas/#respond Fri, 02 Jun 2017 13:06:12 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/need-for-speed-payback-adds-higher-stakes-and-familiar-ideas/

On paper, Need for Speed Payback sounds a lot like Grand Theft Auto V crossed with a modern Fast and the Furious movie. Tale of revenge? Check. Three distinct protagonists with differing skillsets? Check. Heist missions? You see where I’m going with this. There aren’t a ton of other details to go on, but Electronic Arts says that the arcade racer will once again be open world and will feature “jaw-dropping set pieces.” Like a submarine surfacing in an ice floe?

The big difference with Payback, though, is that it doesn’t sound like taking anything other than first place will impede your progress through the narrative. “With Need for Speed Payback, it’s no longer just about being the first to cross the finish line or racing to prove to be the best, it’s about building the perfect ride, getting behind the wheel and playing out an action driving fantasy,” according to a press release.

While the latter three details there have been kind of standard for the series for an awfully long time, the notion of coming in second place and still advancing through the story is somewhat unique. 2015’s Need for Speed flirted with something like this, but ultimately in order to progress you needed to take the gold to keep pushing the game forward. That doesn’t mean there won’t be a focus on winning. In fact, you’ll be able to bet on your own performance in a given race, potentially multiplying your winnings from a given event.

As you can see from the box art, the other difference between this and 2015’s game is that you can race around during the daytime as well. While the sounds minor, it’s a pretty big deal and may help the races from feeling repetitive. Oh and of course series hallmarks like cop chases and car customization will return, too. The game will be released November 10th on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but if you want an early peek ahead of E3 next week, that’s what the trailer below is for.

Roar to hand Wanderers ‘hot’ payback https://briefnews.eu/roar-to-hand-wanderers-hot-payback/ https://briefnews.eu/roar-to-hand-wanderers-hot-payback/#respond Mon, 17 Apr 2017 10:12:20 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/roar-to-hand-wanderers-hot-payback/

Roar bite back to level1:20

A-League: The Brisbane score two quick-fire goals to level the score against the Wellington Phoenix.

Maclaren and Holman want to give the Wanderers some hurt.

MARCO MONTEVERDEThe Courier-Mail

LOSING a semi-final is never easy to take, but when it’s after you have led 3-0, it’s downright torture.

Brisbane Roar have had almost a year to dwell on their 5-4 defeat to Western Sydney Wanderers at Pirtek Stadium in last season’s A-League finals series.

Seemingly with one foot in the grand final when they held a three-goal lead after 23 minutes, the Roar inexplicably folded to lose in extra-time.

If ever there was the perfect time to gain revenge, it’s on Friday night when the Roar meet the Wanderers in the opening week of this season’s finals.

While it comes a week earlier than their meeting in last season’s playoffs, the outcome for the loser is the same — the end of a championship dream.

But what’s different is the venue. This season it’s advantage Brisbane, with the match being played at Suncorp Stadium.

“Down there it was a lot harder because they had their fans behind them and this time we’re going to have our fans behind us, and that’s really important for us,” said star Roar striker Jamie Maclaren in reflecting on what might have been last season and what could happen on Friday night.

“If we actually look back (at the 5-4 loss), we were quite lucky to go 3-0 up … you could say revenge but they’re a good side, let’s not forget that.

“For us it’s business as usual. We’re hitting our straps at a good time. We just can’t wait for Friday.”

Sydney FC no certainty0:43

A-League: WSW defender Robbie Cornthwaite believes the A-League finals will not be dominated by Sydney FC and could be won by any of the six teams.

Maclaren’s in-form teammate Brett Holman described the Roar-Wanderers rivalry as “hot”.

“Especially after the major semi last year … I actually watched the game and was disappointed for Brisbane,” said Holman, who wasn’t a Roar player at the time.

The Roar staged a similarly memorable comeback on Sunday night, when they ended their regular season campaign with a 4-3 home win over Wellington Phoenix after being 3-1 behind at halftime.

Maclaren said: “We threw some honesty out there (at halftime) and said ‘look it’s not good enough and if you really want to be a finals threat you need to come out in the second half and really give it your all.’

“For us to come back like that … it (gives us) great confidence, and for us, bring it on, because at home we’re very strong.”

Maclaren scored on Sunday night to ensure he shared the Golden Boot with Melbourne Victory’s former Roar star Besart Berisha. Both netted 19 goals.

However, Maclaren also blew the chance to finish on top the goalscoring charts by himself when he missed a penalty that would have put the Roar 5-3 up over the Phoenix.

“(It’s) bittersweet with the penalty (miss) but … as a striker you have to move on. There was a coach who once told me ‘get the next bus’ which is the next chance, so for me it’s just business as usual,” he said.

“I’ll continue to try to create chances and score goals for this team.”
