Long running Power star Naturi Naughton has been tapped for the lead role in a brand new pilot for ABC, Queens. Best known for her role as Tasha St Patrick in the popular Starz series, the prevalent TV star will portray a former Hip Hop star in an exciting new drama from a producer of Scandal.

Naturi Naughton is set to play Jill, aka Da Thrill, a former Hip Hop legend in a brand new series for ABC, titled Queens.

The Power star will join rapper and actress Eve as the co-lead for an hour-long television pilot from creator Zahir McGhee.

Naughton and Eve will form one half of the Nasty B*****s, a successful music group formed by Jill and her high school friends in the ‘90s.

Eve will portray another member of the group named Brianna, following her recent appearances in Empire, Happy Together and as co-host of Sara Gilbert’s CBS chat show, The Talk.

Now in their 40s, the four women decide to reconnect to try and reclaim their former glory.

Queens will be Naturi Naughton’s first major TV project after her main role in six seasons and a spin-off of Courtney Kemp’s crime drama, Power.

Her role in the series is currently uncertain after Tasha was moved into Witness Protection at the end of Book II’s first season.

Tasha’s departure will leave her son, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.), to fend for himself in season two, though it is speculated she will be returning for guest appearances in the near future.

When she decides to reconnect with her old friends, their reunion digs up some dark secrets from the past that continue to haunt Jill to this day.

Queens is one of a number of pilot episodes ordered by ABC, and it is not currently known if the upcoming drama will be picked up for a new series.

With Naturi Naughton bringing years of experience as both an actress and musician to the new project, it’s hoped her talents will help ensure Queens’ future success.

Like her co-star Eve, Naughton was also a major recording artist, having been a member of the Platinum selling trio 3LW before her departure in 2002.

The star has received two NAACP Image Awards for her work on Power, and first transitioned to acting by starring in Hairspray on Broadway from 2005-2008.

Her decision to join ABC’s new series is sure to be a sign of quality, as Naughton was reportedly sought after for a number of TV projects after she departed her role as a series regular on Power.

The creator of Queens, Zahir McGhee, is also coming off his work on Stumptown and For the People, as well as a key producer for the last six seasons of the Kerry Washington vehicle, Scandal.

Power Book II is available to watch on Starz and Starzplay.

Chicago P.D.’s Marina Squerciati and Patrick John Flueger Explain Why ‘Burzek’ Isn’t Back Together (Yet) https://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-s-marina-squerciati-and-patrick-john-flueger-explain-why-burzek-isnt-back-together-yet/ https://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-s-marina-squerciati-and-patrick-john-flueger-explain-why-burzek-isnt-back-together-yet/#respond Sat, 30 Jan 2021 08:15:36 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-s-marina-squerciati-and-patrick-john-flueger-explain-why-burzek-isnt-back-together-yet/

Things have been going really well for Chicago P.D.‘s Burgess and Ruzek lately, which begs the question: When will they stop messing around and finally get back together?

In the aftermath of Burgess’ miscarriage last season, the pair have only gotten closer while working through their shared trauma. They hang out together, work together and as Ruzek so expertly observed in the Jan. 13 episode “Tender Age,” they’re basically an old married couple at this point.

A romantic reconciliation seems like the logical next step, so why haven’t they moved forward in their relationship? For Marina Squerciati, who plays Burgess, the not-couple is in too good of a place right now to shake things up.

“What’s keeping them apart is how well they get along,” Squerciati tells TVLine. “Burgess is scared of anything new right now because of this miscarriage and the trauma she suffered, so comfort is the main goal in her life. Just flannel shirts and ice cream on the couch — anything else seems scary. Their biggest problem is they’re too comfortable, and Burgess is really happy right now.”

Patrick John Flueger, who plays Ruzek, thinks the pair is exactly where they need to be at the moment. “I think that it’s an incredibly adult relationship,” he explains. “These are two people that love each other enough to take steps back when they need to, and lean forward when they need to. At the end of the day, they just love each other, and they can’t really escape from that. Right now, [Ruzek and Burgess] feeling each other out and feeling out life works for them really well.”

Though they’ve hit a pretty comfortable routine, there is still the potential for the Intelligence detectives to once again make things official. However, Squerciati says that it’s going to take a lot more than sweet talk for Burgess to want to make that leap again: “Ruzek says a lot of really wonderful things, but I think he needs to do something super romantic or really show up.”

Should Burgess and Ruzek get back together right now? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Power season 6 theories: Q frames Tasha St Patrick for Ghost’s death in Breeze revenge? https://briefnews.eu/power-season-6-theories-q-frames-tasha-st-patrick-for-ghosts-death-in-breeze-revenge/ https://briefnews.eu/power-season-6-theories-q-frames-tasha-st-patrick-for-ghosts-death-in-breeze-revenge/#respond Sun, 02 Feb 2020 03:03:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/power-season-6-theories-q-frames-tasha-st-patrick-for-ghosts-death-in-breeze-revenge/

The sixth run of Power has kept fans on the edge of their seats especially since Ghost (played by Omari Hardwick) was shot in his nightclub Truth. The seven suspects have now been whittled down to three; Tasha St Patrick (Naturi Naughton), Tariq St Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr) and Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson). But could the shooter be part of a much bigger plan?

Quinton Wallace, also known as Q, (Tyrone Marshall Brown) came onto the scene in season six as a new love interest for Tasha.

The pair enjoyed a steamy romp in her daycare centre but Tasha has kept her lover at a distance as Ghost threatened to pull her life apart.

She also doesn’t want to put Q at risk after learning her ex-husband killed Terry Silver (Brandon Victor Dixon) as he didn’t want his estranged wife with anyone new.

Tasha has plenty of motive for wanting to kill Ghost – to get revenge and to protect their son Tariq.

Q could also have rushed to Truth to shoot Ghost himself but have been followed by Tasha.

Although Tasha hates her ex, it’s unlikely she could really be the one to kill him after they’ve been through so much together.

But knowing she has plenty of motive to kill Ghost, Q could frame her for Ghost’s death.

Meanwhile, one fan believes Ghost will reunite with his late lover Angela Valdes (Lela Loren).

Ghost was devastated when his friend Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) shot his lover after they all managed to escape prison.

Tommy always believed Angela had got in the way of their business and even ruined his friendship with Ghost.

Now, one fan explained to Express.co.uk how Ghost will be reunited with his first love in the final episode.

“The first episode of Power is called Not Exactly How We Planned,” they said.

Patrick Stewart Asks Whoopi Goldberg to Join Star Trek: Picard Cast — Watch https://briefnews.eu/patrick-stewart-asks-whoopi-goldberg-to-join-star-trek-picard-cast-watch/ https://briefnews.eu/patrick-stewart-asks-whoopi-goldberg-to-join-star-trek-picard-cast-watch/#respond Wed, 22 Jan 2020 21:01:49 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/patrick-stewart-asks-whoopi-goldberg-to-join-star-trek-picard-cast-watch/

It looks like Jean-Luc Picard will be sharing another drink with his favorite bartender soon enough.

Patrick Stewart, who’s reprising his role as Jean-Luc on CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Picard, stopped by The View on Wednesday with “a formal invitation” for co-host Whoopi Goldberg. In the video above, he asks her if she’d like to join him in Season 2 of Picard, returning to her Next Generation role as mystical bartender Guinan. Goldberg giggles and gives Stewart a warm hug as the crowd applauds, and when Stewart begs her to “please say yes,” she does so with a smile.

Both former co-stars are clearly thrilled to be working together again. Goldberg says that “Star Trek was one of the great experiences from the beginning to the end,” and Stewart replies that “it was wonderful having you, and we cannot wait to have you with us again one more time.”

Goldberg appeared alongside Stewart as Guinan in 29 episodes of Next Generation, along with the movies Star Trek: Generations and Star Trek: Nemesis. With Stewart’s TNG co-stars Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis already set to join the cast, Star Trek: Picard debuts this Thursday, Jan. 23 on CBS All Access — and has already been renewed for Season 2.

Press PLAY above to see the warm moment between Stewart and Goldberg, and then hit the comments: Are you excited to see Jean-Luc and Guinan together again?

Patrick J. Adams Suiting Up as Astronaut John Glenn for National Geographic Series The Right Stuff https://briefnews.eu/patrick-j-adams-suiting-up-as-astronaut-john-glenn-for-national-geographic-series-the-right-stuff/ https://briefnews.eu/patrick-j-adams-suiting-up-as-astronaut-john-glenn-for-national-geographic-series-the-right-stuff/#respond Fri, 31 May 2019 17:47:35 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/patrick-j-adams-suiting-up-as-astronaut-john-glenn-for-national-geographic-series-the-right-stuff/

Patrick J. Adams‘ next TV workplace will have a slightly different dress code. The former Suits star — who recently left the USA Network drama after seven seasons — will play Maj. John Glenn in National Geographic’s The Right Stuff, based on Tom Wolfe’s 1979 non-fiction book of the same name. Glenn was famously the first American to orbit the Earth in 1962.

According to a release from National Geographic, “The first season of The Right Stuff, which uses Wolfe’s book as its starting point, starts at the height of the Cold War. To combat a national sentiment of fear and decline, the U.S. government conceives of NASA’s Project Mercury, igniting a space race with the Soviets and making instant celebrities of a handful of the military’s adrenaline-fueled test pilots. These individuals, who come to be known as the Mercury Seven, are forged into heroes long before they have achieved a single heroic act. At the heart of a historic drama populated by deeply human characters, two arch-rivals — Glenn and Shepard — jockey to be the first man in space.”

Beyond that, “subsequent seasons of The Right Stuff will carry through to the epochal Apollo Space Program, where humankind saw one of its greatest achievements — man setting foot on the moon — and missions beyond.”

Mark Lafferty (Castle Rock) will serve as showrunner, executive-producing alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson and Will Staples. David Nutter (Game of Thrones) will direct and executive-produce the first episode. Michael Hampton is also involved via Appian Way.

The 23-year-old is having a fantastic second season in the . He leads the league in touchdowns, with 50, has passed for 5,097 yards and finished the season with a quarterback rating of 113.8.

Mahomes, who will be playing in his first playoff game of his career, has already amazed fans with his passing ability.

The young MVP candidate has already demonstrated he has a left-handed throw and a no-look throw in his arsenal, but he’s now working on a behind-the-back pass as well.

Chiefs backup quarterback Chad Henne told NFL Network reporter James Palmer about Mahomes new trick play.

“As back-up quarterback Chad Henne penning told me, it is an extension of his personality,” Palmer said.

“It’s his creativity. The left-handed throw, the no-look pass.

“Henne told me something he has been working on, something in practice this last several weeks, thats a behind-the-back pass.

“Henne told me he doesn’t know when Mahomes will pull it out, but it looks like we haven’t seen all of Mahomes’ tricks.”

The Chiefs come into the Divisional round of the playoffs as the number one seed in the AFC and the Colts, who are the sixth seed, progressed from the Wild Card round after a 21-7 victory over the Houston Texans.

Despite it being Mahomes’ first appearance Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is confident he won’t be overawed by the occasion.

“So far, I haven’t seen anything that is too big for Pat,” Reid said.

“I’m not worried about that. He’s going to get himself ready just like he does every week to play against a good football team.

“I don’t think he is wired the other way. I’m not predicting anything – that’s not what I’m doing here.

“I’m just telling you, matter of fact, that it’s how he’s wired and how he goes about his business.”

In the build up to the game at Arrowhead Stadium Mahomes revealed he is excited about being in the playoffs.

“Every playoff game is big. For me, this is my first playoff game. I’m excited just to be here and to get the opportunity to go out there and win games like this,” Mahomes said.

“When you’re growing up, you want to go and play games like this.

“When you get older, you want to be a professional athlete and you want to win on the biggest stage.

“For me, it’s all about going out there, being myself, leaning on my teammates and winning a football game.”

Patrick Stewart Will Play Captain Picard Once More in New ‘Star Trek’ Series for CBS All Access https://briefnews.eu/patrick-stewart-will-play-captain-picard-once-more-in-new-star-trek-series-for-cbs-all-access/ https://briefnews.eu/patrick-stewart-will-play-captain-picard-once-more-in-new-star-trek-series-for-cbs-all-access/#respond Sun, 05 Aug 2018 03:47:33 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/patrick-stewart-will-play-captain-picard-once-more-in-new-star-trek-series-for-cbs-all-access/

It is time to boldly go. Once more. With an old friend.

CBS has officially announced that Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in an upcoming Star Trek series coming to CBS All Access. Plot details remain unknown, but that doesn’t matter – this the kind of news that can fill our souls for weeks and months ahead. One of the greatest characters in science fiction history is coming back for one last journey through the cosmos. Engage.

The Return of Jean-Luc Picard

After months of rumors, the news was announced by Stewart himself at a Star Trek fan convention in Last Vegas. The series will be executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, the current showrunner on CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery. Kurtzman issued this statement:

With overwhelming joy, it’s a privilege to welcome Sir Patrick Stewart back to the Star Trek fold. For over 20 years, fans have hoped for the return of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and that day is finally here. We can’t wait to forge new ground, surprise people, and honor generations both new and old.

Stewart played the noble, stern, and ultimately warm-hearted Picard on seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation, which ran from 1987 through 1994. He reprised the role in four films featuring the Next Generation cast, but you’d be hard-pressed to find any Trek fan who thinks 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis is a worthy send-off for a character as beloved as Picard.

In his own statement, Stewart acknowledged that he never thought he’d suit up as Picard again. But our modern times are too dark, he says, and fans’ love for Picard too important, to keep him retired. Star Trek fans should grab a tissue before they read this one:

I will always be very proud to have been a part of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but when we wrapped that final movie in the spring of 2002, I truly felt my time with Star Trek had run its natural course. It is, therefore, an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard and to explore new dimensions within him. Seeking out new life for him, when I thought that life was over.

During these past years, it has been humbling to hear many stories about how The Next Generation brought people comfort, saw them through difficult periods in their lives or how the example of Jean-Luc inspired so many to follow in his footsteps, pursuing science, exploration and leadership. I feel I’m ready to return to him for the same reason — to research and experience what comforting and reforming light he might shine on these often very dark times. I look forward to working with our brilliant creative team as we endeavor to bring a fresh, unexpected and pertinent story to life once more.

A lot remains unknown about this series. Will it be an ongoing series or a miniseries? Will Kurtzman serve as showrunner as well? What kind of man has Picard become in the years since we last saw him – will he be calling shots as a Starfleet bigwig or will he fulfill the destiny foretold in the legendary Next Generation season finale, which featured flashforward sequences with him running a farm and attempting to live the retired life?

We shall see.

Why This is Such Exciting News For Star Trek Fans

There are three reasons why the return of Jean-Luc Picard is thrilling news for Star Trek aficionados. Let’s start with the most obvious: the character is quite possibly the most beloved Captain in the franchise’s history and he’d give Spock a run for his money in the most popular character of them all contest. Picard wasn’t as adventurous as Kirk or as emotionally fascinating as Sisko, but he was calm, measured, precise, and artistic, a diplomat who preferred words to phaser blasts and commanded his crew with firm hand. He radiated dignity and quiet strength and his crew rewarded him with loyalty.

The second reason is that this series will finally move the Star Trek series into the future. The Next Generation jumped forward nearly a century beyond the original Star Trek series, establishing a pocket of time that also housed Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. But when those series wrapped, the franchise jumped back in time with the prequel series Star Trek: Enterprise. And the still-young Star Trek: Discovery is also a prequel, set between Enterprise and the original series. As a fan, it’s been annoying to watch Trek tread water, revisiting familiar territory and refusing to boldly go beyond the Next Generation timeline. We will finally see what the future of Star Trek looks like, and a brilliant character will be our guide.

And that brings us to the third reason. The personal one. I want to borrow one of Mr. Stewart’s quotes once more: “…it has been humbling to hear many stories about how The Next Generation brought people comfort, saw them through difficult periods in their lives or how the example of Jean-Luc inspired so many to follow in his footsteps, pursuing science, exploration and leadership.”

While I did not pursue science or exploration, I can’t help but feel like Stewart is speaking to me and countless other fans here. I grew up without a father, raised by a single mother who busted her ass to keep her children healthy and happy. And yet, every boy craves a father and I did what any young man would do: I searched for a replacement father in pop culture. I searched for one in movies and books and television, latching on to some and discarding others. But through it all, Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise remained the example I followed, my mental image of the man I could never be, but could aspire to be. He wasn’t perfect (what father is?), but his flaws only further illuminated his humanity and his strengths as a leader and a thinker. I feel like Picard helped teach me empathy. He helped teach me to talk rather fight, to think before I act, and to treat others with respect, because that respect will come back and bolster you when you need it. I still have a lot of work to do.

I still live in the shadow of Picard and I still ask myself what he would do in a given situation. It’s clear that Patrick Stewart himself knows this and knows that we could use his guidance once more. I couldn’t be more thrilled to take one last voyage with the great fictional hero of my life.

At this weekend’s Las Vegas Star Trek Convention, Sir Patrick Stewart took the show’s keynote stage with a surprise announcement: Jean-Luc Picard is back.

Stewart confirmed that he will return to his iconic role in an as-yet-unnamed series which, according to Deadline, will be a CBS All Access exclusive. The series’ details are currently quite unconfirmed, with Stewart admitting to the LVST crowd that “we have no scripts yet” and he is “talking storylines” with the series’ handlers. But Sir Patrick and the rest of the Star Trek team are adamant in saying that this series will not be a Next Generation reboot, and the LVST events did not include additional TNG actors confirming their involvement.

“He may not be a captain anymore,” Stewart said on Saturday. “He may be someone who has been changed by his experiences… It will be something very different, but it will come to you with the same passion.” An additional statement at Stewart’s Twitter profile pointed out his initial expectation that the role had “run its course” following the filming of 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis.
