This Morning saw Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford back for the final instalment of the week. As ever, the presenters were joined by a range of guests to discuss various topics. One of this morning’s talking points remained COVID-19 after some famous faces, including Denise Welch, have come out and given their thoughts on the Government’s strategy towards the disease. However, when host Eamonn accused Denise of causing “panic” she continued to stay firm on her stance in a heated discussion.

Today’s show saw Denise and This Morning’s resident doctor, Dr Sara Kayat speak out on the pandemic.

With the Government now urging Britons to go back to work as life slowly begins to resume to normal, many members of the public have differing feelings on what should happen next.

And when Eamonn led a debate between Denise and Dr Sara, the former slammed the media and Government’s response, claiming they were not explaining how things had improved.

Denise claimed: “At the moment, people aren’t going in (to hospital), aren’t putting their sick relatives into hospital – it’s criminal.”

Taking aim at the news coverage once more, the Denise continued: “What we have is, ‘Bong, fears rise as spikes reach 1,075 positive tests per day’.

“So if you’re going to frighten us with how many were dying every day, please enlighten us and tell us how things have improved, when no one is dying.”

Touching on the issue of mental health, she said: “As a mental health person, if people want to say, ‘She’s on about that again,’ I don’t care because of the people it does help – I will do anything to help balance the fear-mongering.

“The other day, it said, ‘Universities could become the care homes of the second wave,’ how dare they?”

Those watching at home flocked to Twitter to comment on the debate, with many coming out in support of what the star had shared.

One said: “Thank you, you are totally right, I work in a care home and we’ve said we will lose more residents from mental health due to lockdown than COVID! Plus I’m a high-risk pregnancy and have to go to appointments on my own, so no support at appointments.”

Another shared: “Denise you are smashing it on @thismorning thank you so much.”

“I couldn’t agree with what you are saying more.  So much scaremongering it’s terrible!” commented a third.

However, not everyone agreed with Denise, with one saying: “Please calm down. I know you’re passionate but I can’t listen to shouty people! It’s stressing me out. Calm comes across better.”

Another added: “Why on earth is This Morning giving a platform to tinfoil hat-wearing conspiracy theorist Denise Welch? Who next? David Ike?”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.

Kim Jong-un panic: North Korea fears as Dennis Rodman declares ‘Something is WRONG!’ https://briefnews.eu/kim-jong-un-panic-north-korea-fears-as-dennis-rodman-declares-something-is-wrong/ https://briefnews.eu/kim-jong-un-panic-north-korea-fears-as-dennis-rodman-declares-something-is-wrong/#respond Thu, 21 May 2020 21:18:41 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/kim-jong-un-panic-north-korea-fears-as-dennis-rodman-declares-something-is-wrong/

Kim Jong-un was feared dead for over two weeks after North Korea‘s leader disappeared from the public eye ahead of a major holiday in April. The sudden disappearance of the supreme leader sparked international concerns about a potential successor and instability in the region. North Korea later claimed Kim had returned to work after sharing a series of photographs purportedly showing the leader at the opening of a new fertiliser factory but Dennis Rodman insisted “something is wrong” with Kim.

The basketball star over the years has built a good relationship with Kim Jong-un over the leader’s passion for the sport.

Discussing the rogue leader’s health on Good Morning Britain, Rodman suggested the increased appearance of Kim’s sister, Kim Yo-jong, in a position of leadership could mean Kim is not as well as Pyongyang is trying to claim.

Rodman told GMB: “If you see his sister on tv running the country now you know something is wrong.

“You see his sister running the country, you know something is wrong.”

Rodman added: “Remember when she went to South Korea before he did? She flew out before he did and then he went over after that.

“If you see his sister running the country is because she’s next in line. She’s next in line to take over.”

Kim Yo-jong has been long rumoured as a potential successor to Kim Jong-un as the current North Korean leader is believed to have at least two children but both underage.

While North Korea is a deeply patriarchal society, with power having passed on from son to son since the creation of the country in 1949, Kim Yo-jong has taken on an increasing number of roles within her brother’s government in the past few years.

Secrecy has long been at the heart of the Pyongyang regime, with defectors sharing the little details available over the years.

One North Korean refugee predicted in 2015 Kim Jong-un’s reign would be the shortest-lived in Pyongyang’s history due to its “instability.”

Speaking to CNN, the defectors said: “It is Kim Jong-un’s regime that is the most unstable. And it is going to be the shortest.”

He also warned that the current leader had purged his inner circle, including top members of his own family.

In 2013, the country’s news agency confirmed that Kim had removed his own uncle from meetings and accused him of forming factions against the state, corruption and “depraved” acts such as womanising and drug abuse.

Eamonn Holmes’ panic as dog sneezes on This Morning: ‘Can they get coronavirus?’ https://briefnews.eu/eamonn-holmes-panic-as-dog-sneezes-on-this-morning-can-they-get-coronavirus/ https://briefnews.eu/eamonn-holmes-panic-as-dog-sneezes-on-this-morning-can-they-get-coronavirus/#respond Fri, 13 Mar 2020 14:28:04 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/eamonn-holmes-panic-as-dog-sneezes-on-this-morning-can-they-get-coronavirus/

Today’s This Morning saw Kasey return to the sofa with her rescue dog Maggie, who appeared on the show a year ago, and new puppy Millie. The puppy was born a stray in Russia and had been shot in the face multiple times. Due to her severe facial injuries she lost her snout but since being rescued has a new life as a therapy dog.

Eamonn Holmes and Rochelle were thrilled to be joined by Dr Scott, Kasey and the two puppies on the sofa.

But when Maggie began to struggle sneezing, Eamonn was keen to find out if they were safe from coronavirus.

Dr Scott joked: “Oh I think she might be a little bit allergic to this conversation.”

“So Maggie can’t see?” Eamonn asked.

“No, Maggie is completely blind,” Kasey explained.

Dr Scott went on to add: “What I must say is Eammon, I completely understand your mindset.

“When I first going to meet these dogs, I thought, ‘Wow, is their welfare compromised?’

“But looking at Kasey, watching these dogs…,” however he was interrupted by Maggie who finally sneezed.

Speaking at the start of the show, Eamonn said: “Now, your Friday edition of This Morning, the sharp-eyed amongst you may have realised Ruth is not here.

“She’s under the counter or something? No, she’s a wee bit under the weather, not under the counter, under the weather.

“So basically, she’s at home, watching us from home.”

He later added: “Should point out Mrs Holmes has not got a fever or a dry cough.

Phillip Schofield hits out at coronavirus panic as family locked up – ‘Is this hysteria?’ https://briefnews.eu/phillip-schofield-hits-out-at-coronavirus-panic-as-family-locked-up-is-this-hysteria/ https://briefnews.eu/phillip-schofield-hits-out-at-coronavirus-panic-as-family-locked-up-is-this-hysteria/#respond Tue, 03 Mar 2020 16:55:07 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/phillip-schofield-hits-out-at-coronavirus-panic-as-family-locked-up-is-this-hysteria/

Joining Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby in the This Morning studio was journalist Nick Ferrari and Dr Yaso Browne to discuss the latest surrounding the coronavirus or covid-19 case sweeping the world. Ahead of crossing live to Prime Minister Boris Johnson press conference, the show had sent consumer editor Alice Beer to the Wirral to speak to a family which had been stuck inside their house since returning from holiday after Public Health England had advised them to self-quarantine despite showing no symptoms.

The family in question had said they were advised to stay inside their house and were having daily calls from Public Health England.

Alice stood outside the front of their house and spoke to them through the glass window, while the mother, Lorraine, video called the show from inside the property.

She confirmed neither herself, her two sons, daughter or husband had any symptoms.

Her eldest daughter joined Alice outside the property and explained how she had been forced to moved out of the house as she had not gone on holiday with the rest of the family.

As a result, she was delivering their food supply daily.

Lorraine explained: “Initially it was quite nice but the novelty has quickly worn off… we’re like caged animals, it’s shocking.”

Those watching the interview at home took to Twitter with their thoughts.

One said: “Absolute STATE of this segment on #ThisMorning. Interviewing quarantined people through the windows.”

“Was there any point in having Alice stood outside the window they could have just skyped the studio #thismorning,” another added.

Someone else asked: “Whose idea was this?? #thismorning.”

“Could they not have just spoke to her on the phone? Why feel the need to film inside the house? #ThisMorning,” a fourth remarked.

While one viewer wrote: “That’s f*****g pointless filming outside their window #ThisMorning.”

“Honestly #thismorning are interviewing a self-isolating coronavirus family through their living room window,” someone exclaimed.

Returning back to the studio, Phillip said: “A lot of people could look at this and say, right ok there have been 39 cases in the UK, yet streets are empty, people are shut in their houses, supermarket shelves running out of toilet paper and essentials and things like that.

“Is this hysteria?” And Dr Yaso replied hesitantly: “I think it’s too early to say.”

“The media has a difficult job here,” Nick interjected. “We have to inform, but you don’t want to panic.”

“It’s what we do from now, I think we’re learning more and more each day about it [coronavirus],” Dr Yaso added.

“All sorts of facts coming out, we’ve just heard at the peak of the iris, 20 percent of the workforce could be off sick,” Phillip said.

It comes after the Prime Minister announced a four-prong action plan the government has created in order to deal with coronavirus.

“Contain, delay, research and mitigate,” he summarised.

Johnson said: “Let me be absolutely clear that for the overwhelming majority of people who contract the virus this will be a mild disease from which they will speedily and fully recover as we have already seen.

“But I fully understand public concern, your concern, about the global spread of the virus and it is highly likely that we will see a growing number of UK cases and that’s why keeping the country safe is the government’s overriding priority, and our plan means we are committed to doing everything possible, based on the advice of our world-leading scientific experts, to prepare for all eventualities.”

The Prime Minister said it is “highly likely” the UK will see a growing number of coronavirus cases, but stressed that “our country remains extremely well prepared as it has been since the outbreak began” in Wuhan several months ago, adding that people should continue to go about their business while also washing their hands more often.

This Morning had invited a virologist to discuss the symptoms and treatments.

Holly asked: “What is the treatment for this? We know it’s a virus so antibiotics is not good in this situaiton, what is the treatment?”

He said: “If people have mild symptoms, just stay at home until it resolves itself, like you do when you’ve got a bad cold or flu.

“For the more severe cases, people will be hospitalised and their symptoms will be treated, they might be ventilated – that’s a pretty serious thing.

“For most of is, the main intervention will be paracetamol and rest, I think,” he added.

This Morning airs weekday mornings at 10am on ITV.

Don’t panic! Dad’s Army proves to be as good as it was https://briefnews.eu/dont-panic-dads-army-proves-to-be-as-good-as-it-was/ https://briefnews.eu/dont-panic-dads-army-proves-to-be-as-good-as-it-was/#respond Mon, 26 Aug 2019 16:49:44 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/dont-panic-dads-army-proves-to-be-as-good-as-it-was/

Cold Feet’s Robert Bathurst was perfect as Sergeant Wilson and Kevin McNally wasn’t far off as pompous Captain Mainwaring; although Mathew Horne as Private Walker did occasionally feel more like a subdued Brian Conley than James Beck’s immortal spiv. Using the original Jimmy Perry and David Croft-penned scripts, Mercury Productions remade three long-lost episodes of series two of Dad’s Army that the BBC wiped in the mid-1970s – an act of cultural vandalism few comedy fans will ever forgive them for. After the pig’s ear BBC4 made of their 2016 classic sitcom remakes, expectations were understandably low. But mercifully these shows are faithful and respectful recreations.

The first, The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Walker, was originally broadcast in black and white in March 1969.

A terrible crisis loomed for the Wilmington-on-Sea Home Guard when wily Joe Walker was called up for the regular army – “if Walker goes, so do the cigarettes and the whisky”.

Mainwaring and Wilson make Walker’s case to top brass in London, who wrongly believe him to be a contender for a crack team of long-distance walkers (“What’s this walker’s name?” “It’s Walker, sir.”) That fails but Wilson sits on the Military Service Hardship Committee which considers appeals from one-man businesses that would be ruined by military service.

“Wait a minute,” says Mainwaring. “Walker, he’s a one-man business.” Wilson: “Well if he’s called up he’d hardly be ruined, sir.” Mainwaring: “No, but we shall be.”

The bid conks out when the committee asks to see Walker’s books – he doesn’t have any. In the event, he enlists but is invalided out…

It’s a testimony to the writing the show works so well. Wonderful characters, a terrific cast, memorable catchphrases and scripts gave Dad’s Army universal appeal.

Even an apparent three-in-a-bed scene wasn’t what it looked like, with the camera pulling back to show our heroes on an underground platform.

The last original show was screened in 1977 but repeats still pull in millions. When Dad’s Army launched in 1968, Daily Express TV critic Ron Boyle dubbed it “a classic”.

He wasn’t wrong. If only we could still make them like this…

Episode two A Stripe For Frazer is screened tonight, episode three Under Fire tomorrow, both on Gold at 8pm.

‘True Viking!’ Twitter mocks Swedish envoy for panic over small fire started by Yellow Vests https://briefnews.eu/true-viking-twitter-mocks-swedish-envoy-for-panic-over-small-fire-started-by-yellow-vests/ https://briefnews.eu/true-viking-twitter-mocks-swedish-envoy-for-panic-over-small-fire-started-by-yellow-vests/#respond Sun, 06 Jan 2019 08:34:26 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/true-viking-twitter-mocks-swedish-envoy-for-panic-over-small-fire-started-by-yellow-vests/ As Yellow Vest protests gripped Paris once again, Sweden’s ambassador to France grumbled about police not doing anything about a fire started by protesters in front of the embassy. Her rant provoked some sarcastic responses.

The latest protests by defiant yellow vests seemingly caught Swedish Ambassador Veronika Wand-Danielsson somewhat off-guard, as she apparently discovered that some demonstrators had set up a fire “in front of the embassy” of Sweden’s and Tunisia’s diplomatic mission.

“Where are the police?” Wand-Danielsson asked in a tweet that was accompanied by photos of what looks like a pile of litter burning on a street not far from the embassy. After delivering a rebuke to French law enforcement, the diplomat expressed her gratitude to upstanding French citizens, who had lent a hand to put out the blaze in an act of “solidarity.”

As of Sunday morning, the ambassador’s tweet seems to be scrubbed from her account following a flurry of furious comments from French users.

Many people on Twitter had rushed to offer their sincerest apologies to the ambassador on behalf of the country, while calling the actions of the protesters “inexcusable” and saying that those who lit the fire “do not represent France.”

Others rallied to the defense of police by saying the officers were needed elsewhere and were “working hard” to prevent much more serious damage.

Some respondents, meanwhile, noted that the ambassador’s criticism was just a little bit misdirected, and suggested she call firefighters instead.

“For your information: It is not the police who extinguished fires but firefighters,” one man wrote. “Did you call the Fire Department?” another person asked.

Others also said that Wand-Danielsson might have slightly exaggerated the danger actually posed by the blaze. “I hope you were quick to extinguish [it] as this little bonfire would have burned out in 10 minutes,” one man, who appears to be a Swede, said. Another person said the fire looked “pretty small,” adding that it would “go off all by itself in half an hour.”

One tongue-in-cheek comment also sarcastically praised the ambassador’s resolve as she had to deal with the situation all by herself. “Thank you Madame Ambassador for coming out with a bucket of water to douse the burning box. A true Viking!” it said.

Elsewhere in Paris, the situation spiraled out of control as a crowd of masked protesters broke into the office of the French government spokesman Benjamin Griveaux. The rioters used a forklift taken from a nearby construction site and rammed it into the building to make their way into the office, prompting an ’emergency evacuation’ of the official, who was unharmed in the incident.

Saturday marked the eighth weekend of the Yellow Vest protests. Started in mid-November as a protest against a proposed hike in the cost of fuel, the movement then grew into a force opposing Macron’s policies, protesting against a general decline in living standards.

The Yellow Vest rallies have frequently been marred by scuffles with police. This time, the protesters also pelted the officers with bottles and stones, prompting the police to respond with tear gas and pepper spray. At least 103 demonstrators were detained following the protests in Paris alone.

NHL quarter mark: Oilers GM in panic mode with McLellan firing https://briefnews.eu/nhl-quarter-mark-oilers-gm-in-panic-mode-with-mclellan-firing/ https://briefnews.eu/nhl-quarter-mark-oilers-gm-in-panic-mode-with-mclellan-firing/#respond Thu, 22 Nov 2018 04:55:54 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/nhl-quarter-mark-oilers-gm-in-panic-mode-with-mclellan-firing/

Peter Chiarelli either made a brilliant move in bringing in Sherwood Park's own Ken Hitchcock as Edmonton Oilers head coach to save their season or a futile one that will cost the general manager his job in the spring.

The Oilers won their first game under Hitchcock, a 4-3 decision in overtime against the hometown San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night, just hours after Chiarelli fired bench boss Todd McLellan. The victory has Edmonton sitting one point back of the winless-in-six Vancouver Canucks for the final playoff spot in the Pacific Division with two games in hand.

If you think Chiarelli pushed the panic button in making his move, you're right. After all, haven't the Oilers changed the coaching position enough with this being their eight such moves in 11 seasons?

Watch the Oilers upend the Sharks:

Edmonton edges San Jose 4-3 in overtime, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl 3 points each. 2:09
With U.S. Thanksgiving fast approaching, which coincides with the first-quarter mark of the season, difficult decisions for NHL teams are contemplated and made at this time of the year.

The Oilers, who had dropped six of their previous seven games before Tuesday, were the fourth team this fall to fire their coach, following St. Louis (Mike Yeo), Chicago (Joel Quenneville) and Los Angeles (John Stevens). But coaching changes this early in the season shouldn't be a surprise.

More startling is the fact no team made an in-season head-coaching change last season.

However, the Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, Dallas Stars, New York Islanders, New York Rangers and Washington Capitals made moves behind the bench in the off-season.

Time for a turnaround

Not all coaching changes are effective. If a GM or ownership group wants to make a coaching change, often the opening 20 games can work with ample time for a turnaround.

Take last year — without any coaching changes. Of the 16 teams in playoff position at U.S. Thanksgiving, 11 kept their spot to advance to the Stanley Cup tournament in April.

In the East, the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers were one and four points, respectively, out of the playoffs at this time last year. But, in the end, they were able to rally and displace the Detroit Red Wings and Islanders.

In the West, the Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild and Anaheim Ducks were in a logjam, tied for the final playoff position, but didn't have the tiebreaker. They made the playoffs, however, beating out the teams they were tied with at U.S. Thanksgiving in the Calgary, St. Louis and Vancouver.

Change of address

Here are four other interesting first-quarter developments:

It was a given the off-season additions of Erik Karlsson and John Tavares would improve the San Jose Sharks and Toronto Maple Leafs, respectively. While Karlsson has yet to find his form, Tavares has produced and found a prolific early season partnership with Mitch Marner.

But not to be overlooked has been the play of newcomers Jeff Skinner with the Buffalo Sabres, Mike Hoffman of the Florida Panthers, Max Domi with the Montreal Canadiens and Ryan O'Reilly in St. Louis.

The 27-year-old O’Reilly never has scored more than 28 goals in his first nine seasons, but he’s on pace for 40-plus this year.

O'Reilly's absence in Buffalo allowed the Sabres to land Jeff Skinner. His 14 goals in 21 games have him among the league leaders and on his way to surpassing the career-high 37 goals he scored in Carolina two years ago. His offence has helped the Sabres win six games in a row.

Domi has a 10-game points streak (five goals, 14 points) going and already has scored 10 times this fall, one better than his goal totals in each of the previous two seasons.

Hoffman is riding a franchise-record 16-game points streak (nine goals, 19 points) and scored a goal in his return to his old team, the Ottawa Senators, on Monday.

Change of address II

As mentioned, six teams made head coaching changes in the off-season: Calgary (Bill Peters), Carolina (Rod Brind'Amour), Dallas (Jim Montgomery), Islanders (Barry Trotz), Rangers (David Quinn) and Washington (Todd Reirden). Each club has benefited from its change behind the bench.

The Flames and Stars are in playoff position in the West as are the Rangers and Capitals in the East. Trotz has the Islanders only a point out of the playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division and the Hurricanes are a point behind the Islanders.

Cross-Canada checkup

The Jets and Maple Leafs, the only two Canadian-based NHL teams to make the 2017-18 playoffs, were expected to perform as well as they have so far this season. But the Flames, Canadiens, Canucks and Senators have exceeded expectations in the first quarter. The Oilers are about right where I thought they would be.

The Flames have benefited from the arrival of new coach Peters, and three players who joined him from the Hurricanes, Elias Lindholm, Noah Hanifin and Derek Ryan.

The Habs currently are in a playoff position. They have done it with a relentless forecheck and speed, and without a return to form from goalie Carey Price. He ranks 44th in save percentage at .900. If Price gets going and his teammates keep up their diligent play, maybe they sneak into the playoffs.

The Canucks and Senators unlikely will be in the post-season. Most felt they would be battling it out for the basement. Who thought they would be challenging for a playoff spot?

Both teams have struggled lately. The Canucks have lost five in a row. But they’re still fun to watch with super rookie Elias Pettersson and his 12 goals in 17 games. Ditto for the Senators, who have lost eight of their last 12, but have exciting young defenceman Thomas Chabot. The 21-year-old from Saint-Marie, Que. has five goals and 24 points, double the production of Karlsson’s goal and 12 points in San Jose.

Stanley Cup final preview?

The first-quarter has allowed several Stanley Cup contenders to skate into the forefront, like the Maple Leafs, Jets, Sharks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning and Nashville Predators. But, if you had to choose, which two teams that have stood out and look to be Stanley Cup-Final bound?

How about the Predators and Lightning? The two teams just happened to clash in Music City on Monday with the home team defeating the Andrei Vasilevskiy-less Lightning 3-2. Tampa Bay's prized goalie is out with a broken foot.

The Predators and Lightning are playoff-hardened teams. The Predators went to the final in 2017. The Lightning was there in 2015 as well as two trips to the East final in 2016 and again last spring. If these two clubs stay healthy, I like a Nashville-Tampa Bay final in June, judging from what both teams have exhibited in the first quarter.

Hamptons’ ‘paranoid’ super rich installing luxury panic rooms to hide from MS-13 gang https://briefnews.eu/hamptons-paranoid-super-rich-installing-luxury-panic-rooms-to-hide-from-ms-13-gang/ https://briefnews.eu/hamptons-paranoid-super-rich-installing-luxury-panic-rooms-to-hide-from-ms-13-gang/#respond Sat, 13 Oct 2018 06:45:34 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/hamptons-paranoid-super-rich-installing-luxury-panic-rooms-to-hide-from-ms-13-gang/

Fearing the vicious Salvadoran MS-13 gang, which has plagued Long Island’s Suffolk County and threatens to spread its terror further, residents from the wealthy Hamptons area in New York are turning their homes into fortresses.

The extreme security measures include sleeping with guns, installing bulletproof windows and sometimes even luxury panic rooms.

Supermarket mogul, John Catsimatidis, told the New York Post that he sleeps with a gun underneath his pillow. “A Walther PPK/S, the same one James Bond carried,” he said.

“[My wife] Margo prefers a shotgun. Although, once, she thought she heard something, got the shotgun out and shot through the door,” he added.

Fears that the gang is spreading to the eastern tip of Long Island were bolstered by Southampton Town’s police chief Steven Skrynecki, after he stationed police with anti-terrorism gear at charity galas throughout the summer of 2017.

In April, the gang murdered four men at a soccer field in Central Islip. Three months later a Hampton Bays brothel, which was raided by police, was found to be tagged with an MS-13 sign.

The gang is “in Suffolk County. What’s an hour car ride? They are near,” an unnamed Southampton homeowner said.

Long Island contractor Chris Cosban, whose company Covert Interiors installs pricey panic rooms, told the daily: “The big thing [with homeowners] in the Hamptons is that if somebody has it, they [all] want it.”

The price for a panic room ranges from $ 25,000 to over $ 200,000 which Cosban explains with ‘a wow factor.’

“They like to brag about it,” he said. People used to open up their garages and show off their Lamborghinis, but “now they take guests to the wine bar in their safe room,” said Herman Weisberg from personal security firm Sage Intelligence.

He explained that clients look at the panic rooms as a secondary space that can double as a wine cellar or a secure room to display guns.

Some East Enders say that their wealthy neighbors are going overboard and “get more paranoid the richer they become.”

The moment Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro’s speech was interrupted by approaching drones laden with explosives was captured on video. The authorities confirmed the incident was an attempted assassination.

The Minister for Communication and Information of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez, has confirmed that the Venezuelan leader was targeted in a failed assassination attempt, that was broadcast live on national TV.

The broadcast showed Maduro and senior officials standing nearby in the government box peering into the skies before the video cuts off abruptly to show troops, lined up in parade order, breake rank and scatter from the scene.

A Ruptly video shot from another angle shows bodyguards rushing to shield Maduro from potential impact with what appears to be several bulletproof vests.

The sounds of glaring sirens can be heard over the half-empty square in the wake of the incident.

Rodriguez said two drones filled with explosives were shot down by trained military guard and seven servicemen were taken to nearby hospitals with injuries.

It was also reported that an explosion hit a building near the presidential palace where Maduro was delivering his address to mark the anniversary of the National Guard. It’s unclear if the two incidents have been related in any way.

Scores of uniformed military personnel can be seen hurrying down the streets in videos captured by onlookers.
