This Wednesday’s #OneChicago crossover is not to be missed, and not just because a deadly bacteria is unleashed on the Windy City. For fans of Chicago P.D. exes Burgess and Ruzek, the three-hour event also features a development that took one of the show’s own stars by surprise.

“They threw a curveball at me that I did not see coming,” Marina Squerciati, who plays Burgess, tells TVLine. “I think the ‘Burzek’ story is going to be very interesting. We touch on it [during the crossover] in Episode 4, and then we’ll come back to it later.”

“There are some seeds planted,” says co-star Patrick John Flueger, aka Ruzek. Knowing what’s in store for the former couple, Squerciati thinks “‘Burzek’ fans may be excited.”

After their brief no-strings-attached hookup and several failed attempts to move on, “I think that it’s time that something happens [with ‘Burzek’]. Like, it goes or it doesn’t,” Squerciati adds.

Speaking of past failed romances, Ruzek is coming off an ill-fated one with Hailey Upton, which was “a completely different animal than his relationship with Burgess,” Flueger notes. “They were just better as friends. They were always going to be better as friends, and I think that they’ve just really realized that. I don’t think there’s going to be a lot of, like, leftover feelings, whereas Burgess, I think he’s just always going to be a little bit in love with her, regardless.”

Chicago PD Halstead UptonThere are, however, all sorts of feelings between Upton and Jay Halstead, especially after the former finds herself in quarantine after being exposed to the crossover’s deadly pathogen. “Jay is the one that sent her on this mission that ends up making her get exposed. So Jay feels responsible,” his portrayer Jesse Lee Soffer previews.

“I think Jay cares, and he feels really bad,” Soffer continues, “and you get some nice scenes where he goes to see her and is sorry for the fact that she’s having to go through this.”

The #OneChicago “Infection” crossover airs this Wednesday on NBC, kicking off with Fire at 8/7c, followed by Med at 9 pm and P.D. at 10 pm.

And More Qs! https://briefnews.eu/did-ziva-redeem-weird-ncis-will-p-d-cop-o-d-did-supergirl-reveal-satisfy-is-five-0-security-lax-and-more-qs/ https://briefnews.eu/did-ziva-redeem-weird-ncis-will-p-d-cop-o-d-did-supergirl-reveal-satisfy-is-five-0-security-lax-and-more-qs/#respond Fri, 24 May 2019 20:21:24 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/did-ziva-redeem-weird-ncis-will-p-d-cop-o-d-did-supergirl-reveal-satisfy-is-five-0-security-lax-and-more-qs/ We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Game of Thrones, Supergirl, NCIS and Chicago P.D.!

1 | On Hawaii Five-0, even if Hassan’s wife came toting a plastic gun, doesn’t HQ security check backpacks? Also, can you believe that neither Tani/Junior nor Adam/Tamiko gave our Sweeps Scorecard a First Kiss?

Supergirl2 | After years of waiting for Lena to learn Supergirl’s true identity, were you satisfied with the way it finally played out in the season finale?

3 | Why, exactly, was Game of Thrones‘ Jon guiding the wildlings beyond The Wall? Why didn’t Cersei and Jaime just take cover under the arches, since those somehow withstood Dany’s attack? How could the Dothraki and Unsullied even hear Dany’s speech from hundreds of yards away? And how did Tyrion go from being a prisoner on trial for his life to nominating the new king… and then being named his right-hand man?

4 | When Charmed‘s Harry got defensive about Macy reading his thoughts, what did you think she learned? And are you among the fans hoping they’ll explore their chemistry in Season 2?

5 | On Legends of Tomorrow, was that Land of The Lost‘s Cha-Ka among the creatures Mona groomed? How much do you think Legends wishes it had a better grasp on its air dates so it could hjave made a Game of Thrones/dragon joke? Finally, on the timey-wimey front: The Legends “never” met Zari and she is forgotten, but The Flash‘s Nora “never” visited her parents yet is remembered?

6 | Exactly how many TV shows opened the gates of Hell (or at least tried to)  this spring? Supernatural, Lucifer, Legends of Tomorrow….

7 | On The Bachelorette, could ABC be regretting its choice of Alabama native Hannah B., who never stops gushing about how great her home state is (“Roll tide!”), at a time when many women — and many Bachelorette viewers — are angrily protesting the state’s abortion ban?

8 | Now that we’ve seen how The Fix‘s big murder actually played out… How did no one on/near the beach witness/notice that??

9 | Does your jaw still hurt from dropping when The Voice announced that so-so Gyth Rigdon had bested American Idol alum Dexter Roberts to take second place?

10 | Did Ziva’s shocking appearance NCIS make you instantly forget the finale’s weird and awkward moments, such as when Diane “inhabited” Gibbs [shudder] or when Kasie likened Fornell’s protectiveness of his daughter to Torres’ feelings for Bishop?

11 | As much as we love Oded Fehr as a baddie (such as on Blood & Treasure), when is someone going to cast him in a different kind of role? It’s been so, so long since Covert Affairs.

American Housewife12 | How many of you finished American Housewife‘s musical finale saying to yourselves, “Wait — if most of the cast can sing like that, why don’t they include a showstopper every week?”

13 | Didn’t the finale of The Kids Are Alright — especially tough Peggy’s admission that she’d miss having Lawrence around — leave you annoyed all over again that there hasn’t been as much hoopla about its cancellation as there has Whiskey Cavalier‘s?

14 | On ABC’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience, does it blow your mind — as it does ours — to learn that Marisa Tomei is actually older than Jean Stapleton was when that All in the Family episode originally aired?

15 | Really, Whiskey Cavalier? Jai’s foot-long remote-controlled car wasn’t noticed by any of the guards/people it drove past?

16 | Should the Chicago Med and New Amsterdam writers start consulting each other, given that they both ended the season with characters getting Michael Vaughn’d and have medical directors named Goodwin?

17 | Were you surprised that Chicago Fire‘s Brett didn’t even need a couple minutes to think over Kyle’s marriage proposal (which would also mean leaving the Windy City behind)?

18 | After Chicago P.D.‘s Antonio relapsed and took a pill, are you betting on his absence next season being explained away by an overdose?

19 | Which SEAL Team member looked most jarringly different, shaved, with a haircut and in his Navy uniform — Sonny or Ray?

20 | On Jane the Virgin, how great were all the callbacks with the flower and the “Go Have Sex!” song and the sex scene cartoon?

21 | There are many annoying things about Fox’s Paradise Hotel, but is the most annoying thing the whiny theme song they play at every commercial break?

Chicago P.D. Recap: Burgess Learns About Ruzek and Upton's Romance https://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-recap-burgess-learns-about-ruzek-and-uptons-romance/ https://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-recap-burgess-learns-about-ruzek-and-uptons-romance/#respond Thu, 14 Feb 2019 12:23:10 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-recap-burgess-learns-about-ruzek-and-uptons-romance/ The truth is finally out: On Wednesday’s Chicago P.D., Burgess learned that her ex-fiancé Ruzek is dating Hailey Upton after she walked in on her colleagues sharing a flirty moment. And Burgess certainly didn’t seem happy about it — at first. (Did you notice the way she shrugged off Ruzek’s hand from her shoulder while they were undercover?)

Later, Upton attempts to broach the subject in the locker room with Burgess, who insists that she’s good. “I’ve been wanting to tell you,” Upton persists. “It just sorted of happened.”

“I don’t really want to talk about it. Not now,” Burgess replies.

Chicago PD SpoilersThen the pair are abducted by two gun suppliers/scam artist robbers, and Upton is beaten bloody, while Burgess is threatened at knife point. Thanks to some ingenuity, Burgess is able to break her twist ties, but Upton is still chained up. The two work together to signal the team to their location and stave off the bad guys. The women eventually make it out alive and have a talk over whiskey.

Upton explains that she once dated a sergeant, and after she was promoted, everyone just assumed it was because of her boyfriend. “I learned the hard way that I have to keep my personal life private,” she says. “So I wasn’t too excited about everyone finding out about Adam and I.”

“I get it. We’re good, Hailey,” Burgess sincerely replies, clinking their glasses. And it probably doesn’t hurt that a political consultant (played by Younger and The Originals‘ Charles Michael Davis!) asked her out earlier in the episode.

Upton, Burgess and the rest of the Intelligence unit also get a not-so-thinly veiled warning from Voight. “We all have private lives… but when we are here working, we are one team with one purpose,” he tells them, adding that “whatever’s going on at home, good or bad, has to stay at home” so that cases don’t go sideways again.

P.D. fans, what did you think of Burgess’ reaction to the romantic revelation?

Chicago P.D.: [Spoiler] Learns About Ruzek and Upton's Relationship https://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-spoiler-learns-about-ruzek-and-uptons-relationship/ https://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-spoiler-learns-about-ruzek-and-uptons-relationship/#respond Thu, 10 Jan 2019 03:59:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-spoiler-learns-about-ruzek-and-uptons-relationship/ Warning: The following contains spoilers for Wednesday’s Chicago P.D.

Another member of the Intelligence unit was clued into Ruzek and Upton’s secret relationship during Wednesday’s Chicago P.D.

Although Burgess’ reaction is probably the more highly anticipated one, it’s Halstead who stumbles upon the truth while Ruzek and Upton are having a heated, emotional argument at work. Upton is upset with Ruzek for covering for Antonio’s actions, thereby putting himself and his career in jeopardy, while Ruzek argues that Upton has always had a problem with ethics.

“This has nothing to do with police loyalty. It has to do with you. I care about you,” she counters back, right before Halstead walks in and announces that he could hear them in the stairwell.

Chicago PD RecapAlthough Halstead sternly warns them that they “cannot be having this conversation here,” he’s more understanding when Upton later opens up about her surprise romance.

“I didn’t think this was going to turn into anything. It sort of caught me off-guard,” she confesses. Halstead — who knows a thing or two about workplace relationships — replies, “I get it. And you didn’t have to tell me anything. We’re good. We’re always going to be good.” Well, that sure felt like a loaded response, didn’t it?

P.D. fans, what did you think of Halstead’s reaction?

Chicago P.D. EP on Antonio's Addiction and 'Messy' Fall Finale Cliffhanger https://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-ep-on-antonios-addiction-and-messy-fall-finale-cliffhanger/ https://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-ep-on-antonios-addiction-and-messy-fall-finale-cliffhanger/#respond Thu, 06 Dec 2018 04:05:26 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-ep-on-antonios-addiction-and-messy-fall-finale-cliffhanger/ Warning: The following contains spoilers from Wednesday’s Chicago P.D.

Antonio’s painkiller addiction led the detective down a dark road on Chicago P.D.‘s fall finale. First, he was forced to lie to the Intelligence unit when they found him at the scene of a bust, trying to score, but Voight saw through the charade. Then after Antonio’s daughter was kidnapped, he lashed out at the man who took her and pushed him through a window to his death as a shocked Ruzek and Voight stood nearby.

Will Antonio’s colleagues help him cover up his crime? Will the detective continue to spiral? Or will he take charge of his addiction and get clean? TVLine chatted with showrunner Rick Eid for answers to those burning questions and more.

Chicago PD RecapTVLINE | Antonio has always been a by-the-books cop, and now you have him breaking all the rules. What drove that storytelling decision? And what were you hoping to explore with that?
You are correct. It’s the idea of addiction, and it’s just such a real issue in society, and how anybody can fall prey to the perils of opioid addiction, even somebody as by-the-book as Antonio. But dramatically and creatively, it’s just the idea of: Here’s, more or less, the most righteous character on the show, the most by-the-book character on the show, the person on the show who has enough courage and strength and confidence to judge Voight and others and Ruzek. We thought it would be really interesting to see him in a position where he’s in sort of a shameful place or a vulnerable place, in a place where others could theoretically judge him.

TVLINE | How will this experience, especially what he goes through in this midseason finale, redefine the character moving forward?
It will affect him and impact the way the he looks at himself and views the world, but I think he will eventually return to the Antonio we know. This little period of time was more of an anomaly than the truth about who he is. So he will, for the most part, be the Antonio that we knew before. He might be a little more world-weary than before, and might have a little more scar tissue than before. It might also make him a little less prone or likely to judge others, and it might give him a little more perspective on certain things and see the world from a slightly broader prism.

TVLINE | You mentioned how Antonio judged Voight and Ruzek at the beginning of the season, and those are the three characters that are together in this predicament at the end of the fall finale. Was that intentional?
Yes. That was sort of the whole point. Here’s a guy that judged Ruzek, judged Voight, and then here he is in an incredibly vulnerable position at the midseason finale with the two people he judged, and how do these other two people react to that situation? What’s their instinct? Is it to protect? Is it to judge? Is it to distance themselves? So it’s going to come full circle.

TVLINE | I’m having a hard time picturing how Antonio, Voight and Ruzek get out of this situation. Is there anything you can tease in terms of where the next episode is going to pick up with that, and how they’re dealing with it?
It’s going to pick up in real time. So don’t rack your brain. It’s already been taken care of. [Laughs] Yeah, it’s a messy situation. It’s tricky. Episode 10 is a really exciting episode and [an] answer to the midseason finale.

Chicago PD RecapTVLINE | Will this experience bring Antonio and Ruzek closer together after their rough start this year?
It may. It may take a little bit to get there. In the first episode back in the new year, you’ll see that Ruzek isn’t afraid to put his money where his mouth is about his code and his loyalty.

TVLINE | Voight says that he’s going to help Antonio get clean. Is that an offer that Antonio is going to accept?
Voight isn’t going to give him a choice.

TVLINE | Would you say that this was Antonio’s rock bottom? Or has he not hit that yet?
I hope this is his rock bottom, yes. Antonio is a great character, and he represents a nice counterpoint to Voight, and we don’t want to lose that or marginalize that. We looked at this as a temporary, unfortunate, realistic deviation from his norm.

Chicago P.D. Cast, EP Talk Voight's Shady Deal, Tensions in Intelligence https://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-cast-ep-talk-voights-shady-deal-tensions-in-intelligence/ https://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-cast-ep-talk-voights-shady-deal-tensions-in-intelligence/#respond Thu, 27 Sep 2018 08:31:16 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/chicago-p-d-cast-ep-talk-voights-shady-deal-tensions-in-intelligence/ Warning: The following contains spoilers for Wednesday’s Chicago P.D. premiere.

Chicago P.D.‘s Season 6 premiere found the Intelligence unit fractured like never before. With Voight benched during the investigation into last May’s finale shooting, Antonio was put in charge. But Ruzek — who was upset that Antonio didn’t back up Voight’s story — didn’t show much respect for his new boss’ authority, disobeying his orders and even talking back.

That strained dynamic will continue in upcoming episodes, as “those two are not feeling each other right now,” showrunner Rick Eid says. “At the end of the day, they’re two really strong characters with different codes, and they’re clashing at the moment.”

Chicago PD RecapBut there is hope for peace within Intelligence. The tension between Ruzek and Antonio “starts to level out a little bit,” star Patrick John Flueger, who plays the younger officer, previews. “Atwater pulls Ruzek aside and is like, “What’s your beef? You guys can disagree on how you approach the job, but at the end of the day, he deserves your respect.’ He outranks me, and he’s a really, really good cop, and he’s a good man. Even though we take different paths to getting the job done, he always gets the job done. It’ll smooth out, but it takes a little while to get there.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Voight made a deal with CPD Deputy Superintendent Katherine Brennan (The Brave‘s Anne Heche) after the surveillance footage of the shooting turned out to be “ambiguous,” per Brennan. She’ll help him if he supports her boss for mayor by solving cases in a hurry… or not in a hurry, depending on the circumstances. In response, Voight named his price: a letter of exoneration for Olinsky so his family can collect his pension.

Chicago PD RecapThe arrangement “will complicate the work that they do, because their agendas won’t always be in sync,” Eid notes. “[Brennan] has a political agenda, and Voight is probably the least political human being alive. He cares about getting the bad guy and making Chicago a safer place. Those two ideals will clash.”

And will the unit have any inkling that their sergeant made a secret deal that directly impacts their job? While actress Amy Morton (Platt) says “everyone gets affected in one way or another,” as of yet, “we haven’t really been privy to the dynamic between [Voight and Brennan],” actor Jesse Lee Soffer (Halstead) adds. “I think we know that she’s got him under the gun a little bit. Voight’s a pretty wily character, and he can get out of a lot of situations. We’ve seen him do it time and time again. So I think everyone’s trusting that there’s going to be some way for Voight to end up on top here.”

Is Anne Heche the newest thorn in Voight’s side?

Chicago P.D. has tapped the Brave star for a recurring role in Season 6 as Dep. Superintendent Katherine Brennan, our sister site Deadline reports.
