“I don’t know when we’re going to overthrow them. It could be in a few days, months, a couple of years, but it’s going to happen. They’re going to be overthrown, the people of Iran have obviously had enough,” said Giuliani at a so-called ‘Iran Uprising Summit’ held by the Organization of Iranian-American Communities in New York.

Speaking to members of Iranian expat and dissident communities in the US, who are seeking political change in Iran, the 74-year-old lawyer praised Donald Trump’s bullish approach towards Tehran, boasting that sanctions slapped on Iran, after the White House unilaterally withdrew from the internationally-backed nuclear deal in May, are stalling the country’s economy and damaging Iranians’ lives.

“The sanctions are working. The currency is going to nothing … These are the conditions that lead to successful revolution, and, God willing, non-violent revolution,” he said.

While the US administration has vowed to maintain economic pressure on the Islamic Republic with more sanctions to come into force on November 4 to target Iran’s energy sector, the State Department immediately distanced itself from Giuliani’s comments, stressing that Trump’s personal lawyer does not speak for the administration.

The imposition of sanctions has impacted Iran’s economy and caused the country’s currency to drop in value. The worsening socio-economic conditions have also led to street demonstrations across the country. While Tehran has acknowledged the people’s right to demonstrate, it urged the public to do so in a civil and a peaceful manner. At the same time, the Iranian leadership pinned the blame for sporadic violence on the US and their allies, accusing them of pushing for a regime change in the country.

While Trump has never been shy of supporting the opposition in Iran, his National Security Advisor John Bolton recently noted that a straightforward “regime change” in the country is not being considered by the administration. “Just to be clear, regime change in Iran is not American policy. But what we want is massive change in the regime’s behavior,” Bolton told Reuters in August.

Giuliani’s anti-Tehran comments came immediately after the Iranian supreme leader accused the US and its regional “puppets” of instigating the deadly shooting attack at a military parade in the city of Ahvaz that killed at least 25 people on Saturday.

After staying silent for hours following the atrocity, the US State Department finally issued a statement saying that Americans “stand with the Iranian people against the scourge of radical Islamic terrorism.” At the same time, however, National Security Council spokesman Garrett Marquis added that the “regime in Tehran” should better focus on keeping its citizens “safe at home.”

The Disney film, directed by Ava DuVernay, boasts an incredible cast – including Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon – but a negative reception from critics risked denting its returns in cinemas.

That doesn’t seem to be happening just yet, as the film has steamed ahead in its first day on release.

Variety reports that it is tracking towards $ 13 million on its first Friday, slightly ahead of Black Panther’s $ 9 million.

The Marvel blockbuster has smashed a variety of records, and is now heading into its fourth week in the market.

Currently it looks like the overall weekend will be a photo finish: Wrinkle In Time’s estimates are at around $ 40 million – with Black Panther thought to be cruising towards $ 37 million.

That could still all change, though, with a telling two days still to go.

And even with those numbers, Wrinkle In Time may still struggle to make a profit – as its budget far exceeded $ 100 million.

A Wrinkle In Time is adapted from the book by Madeleine L’Engle, and those who were fond of it are likely to turn out to see the movie.

However it has a Rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes, earning an aggregated score of 42%.

The Guardian, for one, awarded only two stars; while Empire gave a slightly more generous three.

A Wrinkle In Time is out in the UK next Friday, March 16.

Khamenei has previously blamed the Israel and Saudi Arabia for the upheaval. According to the theocratic nation’s attorney general, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, a CIA plot for the anti-regime campaign in Iran began four years ago. The CIA was helped by Israeli spy agency Mossad and the entire anti-Iran campaign was funded by the Saudi regime, he said, according to the International Business Times.

Khamenei also thanked those who took part in the pro-government rallies and said: “These are not normal incidents. [These incidents] occur nowhere in the world,” referring to the show of support. “It is not a matter of one or two or five years. [It is about] a battle between the nation and those hostile to the nation; a battle between Iran and those hostile to Iran; a battle between Islam and those hostile to Islam.”

The supreme leader also took aim at US President Donald Trump. “The U.S. President says the Iranian establishment is terrified by their power. Well, if we were so terrified by you, how did we kick you out of Iran in late 70s and send you packing, out of the entire region, in the 2010s?” he said.

“This man who sits at the head of the White House – although, he seems to be a very unstable man – he must realize that these extreme and psychotic episodes won’t be left without a response.”

Protests criticizing the economic and political situation have spread to more than 80 cities since late December. At least 21 people have died.

A UK Foreign Office spokeswoman declined to comment on Khamenei’s claim, referring to a previous statement by British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson. Johnson said on January 1 that there should be “meaningful debate about the legitimate and important issues the protesters are raising.” He added: “People should be able to have freedom of expression and to demonstrate peacefully within the law. We regret the loss of life that has occurred in the protests in Iran, and call on all concerned to refrain from violence and for international obligations on human rights to be observed.”

The UK and US have precedent for orchestrating regime change in Iran. In 1953, the CIA and MI6 jointly orchestrated the coup of democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh, as detailed in documents released from the US National Security Archive. The spy agencies reinstalled Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran, as monarch. The Shah was, in turn, overthrown in the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

FIFA has threatened to overthrow the Steven Lowy-chaired Football Federation Australia board if the infighting afflicting soccer is not resolved by November.

FFA is currently involved in a bitter dispute with the A-League clubs, state federations and the players association (PFA) in regards to the make-up of the congress which elects the FFA board.

In a dramatic turn of events, it was announced tonight that a joint FIFA and Asian Football Confederation delegation will come to Australia later this month to help break the deadlock that exists between the warring parties.

And in a statement issued by FFA, Lowy confirmed that FIFA has recommended a “normalisation committee” be implemented in place of the existing board if the standoff is not resolved by November.

The FIFA-led committee would take over the running of the game here until new board elections are organised.

“We look forward to working with FIFA and AFC representatives over the coming weeks,” Lowy said.

“FFA wants to see an expanded congress for Australia that reflects the way the game is evolving in this country, but also protects and promotes the interests of the whole of the game.

“Our congress members have differing views on how that should happen so we will continue to work with all parties to find a solution by the end of November.”

The 10-vote congress that elects the FFA board is the smallest of any nation in the world.

It currently consists of the nine state federations and one representative acting as the voice of the A-League clubs.

State bodies in Victoria and NSW had been sided with the A-League clubs and the PFA.

But after Victoria broke ranks last week FFA was able to propose to FIFA its preferred new 9-3-1 model — which means the current congress would have had added to it two more votes for A-League clubs and one for the PFA.

However, that model was flatly rejected by FIFA because it “does not reflect an appropriate representation of all stakeholders” in the game.

An FFA statement last night said: “… the Members Association Committee had advised that it would recommend the establishment of a so-called ‘normalisation committee’ to intervene directly if an acceptable expansion of the congress was not in place by November 30.”

The FIFA committee enforced such a measure in Argentina and Guinea last year.

Corbyn crushed a ‘coup’ against his leadership by winning a second contest with an even greater margin of 61.8 percent (compared to his original 59.5 percent victory in 2015).

The revolt was led in June by his one-time Shadow Foreign Secretary Hilary Benn, whom Corbyn had sacked days prior. More than 170 MPs supported a vote of no confidence in Corbyn, but their hopes to see the back of the socialist leader were crushed by September.

The June 8 election night started off with a surprising twist for Labour internal politics as former Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said he was “delighted” with Jeremy Corbyn’s campaign performance.

Straw was a close ally of Tony Blair and claimed in 2015 that Corbyn “would lead Labour into political oblivion.”

Then it was Labour-center MP David Lammy to perform a mea culpa in a series of tweets congratulating Corbyn and speculating on the results a more united Labour Party could achieve.

“Congratulations to @jeremycorbyn. Despite being underestimated and the underdog he has run one of the very best campaigns of all time,” he wrote.

“Just imagine what we could have achieved if we had more self-belief. Tonight the political landscape has been fundamentally redrawn. I want to pay tribute to the fantastic Labour activists across the country who worked so hard to deliver Labour holds and Labour gains. Let this result answer all those who claim that Labour has lost working class Britain. We have not. We are the working class party.”

And his former shadow cabinet member-turned-leadership-challenger, Angela Eagle, told the BBC Corbyn’s campaign had “resonated with the electorate,” praising the leader for his “authenticity and honesty.”

Ilford North MP Wes Streeting, too, humbly congratulated Corbyn during his first interview with Sky News after holding his seat.

Pundits began wondering who else would do a U-turn and fully support the leader following the extraordinary results.

However, some of Corbyn’s internal adversaries preferred to stick to their gripes, with Birmingham Yardley MP Jess Phillips saying: “I might just do the Birmingham bit of my job from now and pretend Parliament doesn’t exist.”

Earlier in the night another detractor, John Woodcock MP, said he had “no idea” why he had been able to hold his marginal seat of Barrow and Furness – a victory many attributed to Corbyn’s national profile.

Other Corbyn opponents stayed schtum on the results, including prominent backbenchers Benn and Liz Kendall.

NEW Ford recruit Scott McLaughlin will be out to break Holden’s four-year stranglehold of Clipsal 500 race wins this weekend.

McLaughlin was one of two drivers to move into the Ford camp this season from other manufacturers — his move from Garry Rogers Motorsport to DJR Team Penske making him one of the biggest threats for the championship this year.

The other driver to switch to the Ford camp was Jason Bright, who moved to Prodrive Racing Australia from Brad Jones Racing.

Ford last won a Clipsal 500 in 2012, when Will Davison was driving for the manufacturer.

Holden has won every race since.

McLaughlin finished third in the championship in 2016, behind the two Red Bull Holden Racing drivers Jamie Whincup and Shane Van Gisbergen.

Whincup this week labelled DJR Team Penske as his team’s biggest rival this year.

McLaughlin says in the official Clipsal 500 program that he knows expectations are high but is looking forward to the challenge of living up to the Penske name.

“I still pinch myself to be driving for Roger Penske and Dick Johnson,” McLaughlin says.

“It was a bloody hard call to leave Garry and the GRM boys who I’ve grown up with, but the chance to race with this team was just too good an opportunity to say no to.”
