Fans of the Netflix drama have complained about the number of intimate scenes packed into the 10-episode season and believe it to be an overload.

The Society was released on May 10 and charts a large group of 17 to 18 year olds who return to their home town after a school trip to find it deserted.

They transform into sex and violence-crazed teenagers and it appears it is too much for some fans.

In the first two episodes, there are nine recorded sex scenes, which represents a large proportion of those episodes.

Fans have had enough and took to Twitter to air their feelings.

One shocked fan said: “The Society needs to calm down with all these sex scenes.”

Another added: “There’s too much sex going on in this show.”

A third fan went further: “The new Netflix series The Society is wack, after every little thing that happens there’s a sex scene or something sexual on screen hands down.”

Another could not believe their eyes: “I just started watching The Society on Netflix. If this is young adult, damn. Those teenagers are having more sex then most adults.”

However, a Forbes review suggests the Netflix does not go far enough.

The review claims: “Despite all its YA (Young Adult) shenanigans, The Society is still just a little too… standard for its own good. And this seems to be the case with every younger-demo sewing Netflix series of this type. Sabrina, The Order, even dating all the way back to Hemlock Grove, all these shows feel just a hair too grounded.

“A hair too in control of themselves.

“The Society is fine. It’s typical Netflix.

“But typical Netflix is really growing stale these days, and for a series with such a wacky Lord of The Flies premise as this, there really needed to be more of a willingness on the show’s part to ride on the wild side.”

The final moments of The Society were set at a reading, where everyone was wearing yellow ribbons and were gathered around a plaque with all the teens’ names on them and the words “We Remember Them”.

 

This seems to confirm the theory that the teens have found themselves in a parallel universe, meaning there must be a way they can return home.

However, the episode gives no clues as to how they can return and where they actually are.

Though no details have emerged about The Society season two, Allie (played by Kathryn Newton) could be one of the first casualties of the next series.

At the end of the season finale, the “military” of the town stage a coup, which sees Allie deposed as mayor over false charges that she faked the election.

It suggests Campbell might meet a sticky end if there is another series of The Society.

The Society is streaming now on Netflix.

The bridge of my nose is starting to collapse under the weight of the augmented reality glasses I’m wearing. I’m sitting in an Infiniti SUV being taken on a short tour near San Francisco’s AT&T Park (home of the Giants. Go, local sports team), peering into what could possibly be the future of driving: a world where your glasses highlight landmarks and places of business while “following” a virtual Porsche along a route. I can’t say if it’s amazing or just another piece of technology being shoved into the automobile because it’s in vogue. I do know that if anyone is expected to enjoy the wonders of AR, the glasses are going to have to lose about five pounds.

While VR continues to underwhelm, AR is becoming a larger part of our lives thanks, in part, to Pokémon, Apple’s ARKit and Google’s Tango. So it’s understandable that companies like Aero Glass are trying to put augmented reality everywhere — including in front of the eyes of drivers. The company’s vision is to give anyone behind the wheel access to visual cues to their surroundings. Imagine a heads-up display that’s visible no matter where you look. But instead of just your speed, you can see the Starbucks logo off in the distance because you need a caffeine fix. Or maybe you’re a sports fan new to San Francisco and can’t find the ballpark. No problem, here’s a massive spinning Giants logo.

doesn’t make the hardware that was sliding down my face. Instead it creates the software that surfaces landmarks and brings navigation to your face. But founder Akos Maroy does believe that in two to three years AR glasses will be lighter and (more importantly) more stylish. His company is more interested in how the world looks to people wearing those specs. “We consider ourselves a visualization platform,” Maroy said. Aero Glass would grab the geolocation data from other sources like a car’s navigation system, Google Maps or from the car’s sensors.

It’s those sensors and cameras that might yield the most intriguing feature of AR. Maroy says that his company is talking to BMW about his system, which makes sense. Back in 2015, Mini (a subsidiary of BMW) showed off glasses that let you look “through” the car using the car’s external cameras to see pedestrians. Sort of like X-ray vision for driving.

While the safety features seem helpful, there is the chance of visual overload. When a system decides that everything is important enough for you to see, it’ll be difficult to separate the signal from the noise. Making your brain wade through five Starbucks logos to note that there’s a potential hazard up ahead is a concern.

Maroy knows this is an issue “depending on the situation you would want to prioritize.” He says that in the next few years his company will be working to figure that out. Plus as we slowly move into the world of autonomy, these glasses could display more data because you’re not actually driving anymore. One wrinkle in that plan is that automakers like Audi are researching making displays out of the windshield and windows in you car. It’s augmented reality without the need for headgear.

What Aero Glass envisions, though, is hardware you have on all the time. The glasses you would use in the car would be the same ones you use everywhere else. Sort of like when you get in your car with your smartphone and start using Android Auto or CarPlay, the Aero Glass app would kick in when you get behind the wheel. The company’s experience building HUD systems for the aviation market makes its foray into the automotive world a logical plan to connect with more users.

The question is: Is that what we want? Audi and BMW are both researching what the autonomous car of the future will be like. Will it be a relaxing oasis or an extension to our already overloaded digital lives. We still have awhile before AR glasses are small and comfortable enough to wear around town, but the last thing we need is another distraction behind the wheel. Even if it’ll help you find the nearest Starbucks.

Agolo, a New York-based startup that’s setting out to help help companies fight information overload through AI-powered summarizations, has closed a $ 3.5 million seed round of funding co-led by Microsoft’s corporate investment fund, Microsoft Ventures, and CRV, with participation from Point72 Ventures and Franklin Templeton.

Founded in 2012, Agolo in its original guise was all about helping users curate their Twitter feed to focus on tweets and conversations that were most relevant to a user’s preferences. But that early beta, it seems, was more of a proof of concept, showing how it’s possible to crunch vast swathes of information to zoom in on the data that matters most. And so today, Agolo is pitched as the “world’s most advanced summarization software,” connecting news, documents, raw data, and more to create real-time summaries more quickly.

Using natural language processing (NLP), Agolo’s technology analyzes content, identifies different subjects, and draws connections between them. The company said that it already works with “the world’s largest media companies” to help them summarize their news on Facebook and through Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant.

“Summarization is essentially algorithmic reading and writing of content, which is as much a pillar of artificial intelligence as it is of human intelligence,” said Sage Wohns, CEO and cofounder of Agolo. “There’s a crucial need for making sense of the world’s information and Agolo is filling that void. Our platform partnerships with our investors have helped us become indispensable to media companies — it’s hard to find a media company we don’t work with. And there are broader applications in diverse sectors including financial services.”

Algorithms and AI are increasingly infiltrating the creative realm. Similar companies to Agolo include Automated Insights which is using automation to analyze big data and transform it into stories, including sports reporting, while Narrative Science focuses on business intelligence for the enterprise, or “data storytelling,” as it puts it, enabling automated earnings reports created from raw data.

Agolo has raised a number of smaller seed rounds of funding before now, but with its latest cash cash injection the company said that it now plans to “transform the way financial service analysts do their jobs” by expanding its platform to cater to asset managers and investment banks.

“This is game-changing for those whose livelihoods depend on data accuracy and speed to action to make high stakes decisions,” continued Mohamed AlTantawy, CTO and cofounder of Agolo. “Defeating information overload creates a serious advantage for long/short equity analysts. End users receive personalized market and business intelligence reports so they don’t have to spend countless hours reading through the same information.”

Moving forward, Agolo noted that it plans to integrate its summarization smarts into additional platforms such as Slack, as well as chat, voice, and video.

Microsoft’s involvement in this funding round is also a major scoop for Agolo, and comes from a new AI-focused fund it set up last December. The fund’s inaugural investment was in Montreal-based Element AI, while just yesterday Microsoft Ventures joined a $ 7.6 million round into a startup called Bonsai, which helps companies build their own AI.

“The ability for humans to process mass amounts of information quickly is extremely limited, making summarization key to digesting data efficiently,” noted Nagraj Kashyap, corporate vice president at Microsoft Ventures. “We’re excited to continue working with Agolo in its quest to fight information overload with AI, ultimately helping to make people and organizations more productive.”

Remember when Facebook used to routinely change its website layout around and confused / incited anger in everyone every few months? These days it’s sticking to a pretty standard look, but the company does test a few format changes here and there to see what might be worth updating.

The latest update appears to be in the comments section on the Facebook mobile app, which swaps the flat line-by-line format with Messenger-like chat bubbles. Replies also look similar to Messenger, with individual bubbles underneath the original comment.

“We are always working to make Facebook a more visual and engaging place to have conversations,” Facebook said. “So we’re testing multiple design updates in News Feed, including a more conversational way to comment on posts.”

Facebook also said it’s testing this with a “small percentage” of users, so if you hate it, don’t worry — it’s not a guarantee that the format is permanent. Personally, I think that while the design does make each comment stand out more, it also looks cluttered. The current format is clean and easy on the eyes, though it’s understandable to see why Facebook would want to grab your attention and maximize time spent on the app.
