It’s not bro time, it’s showtime at HBO Max. The streamer has greenlit The Real Magic Mike (working title), an unscripted competition series from executive producers Channing Tatum and Steven Soderbergh. Premiering later this year, The Real Magic Mike is described as an “exhilarating” and “sexy” series that “will transform a group of men into real-life Magic Mikes,” according to the official logline. “Ten men who have ‘lost their magic’ will come together in a competition series like no other. They will bare their souls and more as they evolve their bodies, learn to perform spectacular routines, and develop a new level of self-confidence. As they strip off their clothes, they will rid themselves of emotional baggage and regain their mojo but only one will be the Real Magic Mike. He will win a cash prize and an opportunity to perform on the blockbuster Magic Mike Live stage in Las Vegas.” A nationwide casting search is currently underway. “From box office hits to sold-out live shows, Magic Mike has proven to be a pop culture juggernaut that continues to delight people across the globe,” Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max, said in a statement. “We’re excited to work with Channing, Steven and the team behind Magic Mike Live to continue this successful franchise that celebrates self-confidence and sexiness both inside and out.” Added President of Warner Bros. Unscripted Television Mike Darnell: “Magic Mike is one of Warner Bros.’ most iconic franchises. “We couldn’t be more excited to be working with Channing, Steven and HBO Max on an all-new vision of this amazing and legendary brand. We’re looking forward to giving fans a front row seat as we search the country for undiscovered talent.” The original Magic Mike was released in 2012. Directed by Soderbergh, the film was loosely based on the experiences of Tatum, who got his start as a stripper in Tampa, Fla. The movie went on to gross nearly $ 170 million at the box office and spawned a sequel — 2015’s Magic Mike XXL — and a Vegas stage show. Fox has booked a trip to Fantasy Island. The network has handed a straight-to-series order to a contemporary reboot of the late-’70s/early ’80s ABC drama, to hail from executive producers Liz Craft and Sarah Fain (The 100) and air in summer 2021. The reimagined Fantasy Island is being billed as a “semi-anthology” series “that delves into the ‘what if’ questions, both big and small, that keep us awake at night,” according to the official logline. “Each episode will tell emotional, provocative stories about people who walk in with a desire, but end up reborn to themselves through the magical realism of Fantasy Island.” “[W]e’ve been particularly focused on providing viewers with summer series that offer a true escape from everyday life — to be sure, now so more than ever,” Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment at Fox Entertainment, said in a statement. “Fantasy Island is a beloved program, and the world Liz and Sarah have created for this contemporary adaptation is signature Fox and a perfect show for today’s times. After all, who among us wouldn’t take a (safe) trip to Fantasy Island right now?” In addition to The 100, Craft and Fain’s credits include Angel, Lie to Me, The Shield, The Vampire Diaries and Women’s Murder Club. They most recently co-created the ABC drama The Fix, alongside former O.J. Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark. The original Fantasy Island ran for seven seasons on ABC, from 1977 to 1984, and starred Ricardo Montalbán (as Mr. Roarke) and Hervé Villechaize (as his assistant Tattoo). A short-lived reboot featuring Malcolm McDowell and Mädchen Amick aired in 1998, lasting just 13 episodes. Earlier this year, a feature-length horror adaptation starring Michael Peña, Maggie Q and Lucy Hale grossed nearly $ 50 million at the box office (but earned a dismal seven percent approval on Rotten Tomatoes). Dexter Morgan’s second act as a lumberjack is coming to an end: Showtime has ordered a 10-episode Dexter revival, with Michael C. Hall on board to reprise his role as the killer vigilante. Original EP Clyde Phillips will be back as showrunner of the quasi-ninth season, which is set to begin production this winter ahead of a Fall 2021 launch. “Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago,” said Showtime president Gary Levine in a statement. “We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world!” Dexter made its Showtime debut in Fall 2006 and ran for eight successful (if polarizing) seasons. In the much-maligned series finale — which aired on Sept. 22, 2013 — Dexter faked his death and assumed a new identity as a lumberjack. (TVLine readers gave the episode an average “D” grade.) “I thought it was narratively satisfying — but it was not so savoury,” Hall previously conceded of the swan song, adding, “I think the show had lost a certain amount of torque. Just inherently because of how long we’d done it, because of the storytelling capital we’d spent, because our writers may have been gassed… Maybe some people wanted a more satisfying… ending for him, either a happy ending or a more definitive sense of closure.” Showtime has for years been kicking around the idea of resurrecting Dexter. In 2014, then-president David Nevins confirmed that “ongoing conversations” were taking place to revive the franchise, but maintained any new series “would have to involve Michael… If we were to do it, I’d only do it with Michael.” Netflix is looking to make some heavenly music with Pharrell Williams. The streaming service has ordered Voices of Fire, an unscripted gospel music series executive-produced by the 13-time Grammy winner. The pickup was first announced at Essence Festival on Sunday. Voices of Fire will follow the “Happy” singer’s hometown community as it “builds one of the world’s most inspiring gospel choirs,” according to the official logline. Williams’ uncle, Bishop Ezekiel Williams, and his core team of “influential gospel leaders,” will venture out into Hampton Roads, Va., to find undiscovered talent. “With the belief that diverse backstories can give their collective voice a greater meaning, the Bishop and his team will be searching for people of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds.” Williams is no stranger to reality-TV. He previously was a coach on NBC’s The Voice, winning in Season 8 with singer Sawyer Fredericks. He also served as a guest judge on the Stateside version of The X Factor, as well as Project Runway All Stars. Voices of Fire joins a growing roster of unscripted series at Netflix, including The Circle, Love Is Blind and hip-hop competition Rhythm + Flow — all of which have been renewed for additional seasons. A US judge has ordered North Korea to pay damages to the family of a student who died in the US after being released from North Korean custody, yet, behind the scenes, both sides seem to have bigger questions in mind. Beryl Howell, the chief judge of the US District Court for Washington, DC, demanded North Korea pay the imposing sum on Monday, ostensibly as a consequence of 22-year-old Otto Warmbier having been tortured during his 17-month detention in a North Korean work camp in 2016, which allegedly resulted in his coma and eventual death. It comes as little surprise that the judge’s order to hand over the money was packaged in all of the US’ major political talking points against North Korea, considering that the court-proceedings directly coincide with a diplomatic drive by Donald Trump to lock-down a second meeting with North Korean President Kim Jong Un. “An American family, the Warmbiers, experienced North Korea’s brutality first-hand when North Korea seized their son to use as a pawn in that totalitarian state’s global shenanigans and face-off with the United States,” Judge Howell told the court without a hint of irony, despite that just this June Trump himself emphasized how Warmbier’s death helped to facilitate the first meeting between the world leaders. The President continued to be less than candid this time around on his Twitter account: Christmas Eve briefing with my team working on North Korea – Progress being made. Looking forward to my next summit with Chairman Kim! pic.twitter.com/zPTtDbrP0o — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 24, 2018 It is somewhat inevitable that judge Howell’s fiery words are likely to miss their target alongside the court’s default judgment, considering the fact that North Korea has very few, if any, assets which the US government could seize in order to enforce the payments, and that the Korean’s themselves are rather unlikely to show up in court for an alternative punishment. The court’s Bombastic rhetoric aside, ramifications for the North are possible if the financial damages were offset onto something more pressing, such as, for instance, ongoing nuclear weapons discussions. Ironically, this means that Warmbier will very directly be used as a pawn in a global power face off – only, not just by the Koreans. North Korea’s position on the question has changed little from a Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) statement released February, which accuses “the Trump clan” of “intentionally stoking up the anti-DPRK smear campaign” over Warmbier’s death, “tarnishing” North Korea’s “international image and finding an excuse for intensifying the international pressure campaign”; in other words, the US is just as ready to use the Warmbier’s family tragedy for political ends. The actual number named in the lawsuit, according to the judge, is payment due for North Korea’s liability in “the torture, hostage-taking, and extrajudicial killing of Otto Warmbier,” as well as the related emotional injuries and costs to his mother and father. Despite the possible validity of these claims, the Coroner’s office in Warmbier’s home-state of Ohio claimed the body showed no clear signs of having been tortured, the doctor even said that his body and skin were in “excellent condition” given that he had been bedridden in a coma since being sent home from Korea. To complicate matters, Otto’s parents also denied an autopsy, which puts the accounting behind the $ 501,134,683.80 in punitive damages into serious question. The wrongful death claim in itself has more than a few untied ends the court seemed ok with safety-pinning together. The experts assigned to determine the cause of death could only come up with the criminally unspecific diagnosis of lack of oxygen. In this case, Asthma is as likely culprit as head trauma, particularly given that a high enough level of trauma to halt breathing would likely be visible. The North Korean side claims that Warmbier had contracted botulism or had a reaction to a sleeping pill. Predictably, they vehemently deny employing torture…However, without even looking into these arguments, there is a more obvious problem with the case from the get-go: the wrongful death case was decided so conclusively despite the fact that no autopsy was conducted to confirm the cause of death in the first place. The unfortunate fact is that, regardless of the details of Warmbier’s case, both sides are looking at the situation as an opportunity to engage in diplomacy-by-other-means: the US gunning for continued denuclearization talks, and North Korea looking to make a deal on alleviating sanctions. Yet, both sides faithfully pretend to adhere to the issue at hand, the tragic death of a young man, accusing the other of having sneaky politically oriented motivations… well, with the exception of Trump, who sometimes doesn’t seem to be playing the same game of diplomacy as those around him: Otto Warmbier, a 22-year-old University of Virginia student, was arrested in North Korea for “having committed hostility toward [North Korea] on a mission assigned by an American organization”, according to the KCNA, by stealing a political banner from the staff holding area of the Yanggakdo International Hotel. The Koreans believe Warmbier was punished fairly given that the stolen banner was intended to be used in propaganda efforts against the country. In light of rulings like this Monday’s, it seems broader political questions might prevent a concrete answer about Otto’s death from from being found. Like this story? Share it with a friend!

Brokenuke Mountain? Trump says he and Kim ‘fell in love’ (VIDEO)
The sentence was handed at Lewes Crown Court, after Lina Tantash was found guilty on two counts of stalking, and handed a series of restraining orders.
Then Dublin-based Tantash, 44, described during the trial as a “highly intelligent” project planner at Trinity College, began a relationship with filmmaker Jarlath Rice, 50, back in early 2007.
Perhaps sensing already that they were not a perfect match, Rice ended the union just weeks later. But to Tantash this was simply a man in denial of his feelings.
So began her campaign to show him true love.
Tactics developed from the standard: turning up on his doorstep, sending 20,000 texts, calling him up to 40 times a day at work, sometimes putting on fake accents to get through, and setting up 11 separate email accounts to dispatch romantic declarations (sample name: jarlathswitchthephoneonby9am@gmail.com).
But as Rice blocked her, and moved houses – once even staying in a hotel – Tantash grew more persistent. She typed up a 21-point “Love Contract” according to which Rice would have to return her calls within 15 minutes, “be nice”, admit that they were in a relationship, and marry her within a year. In return, Tantash, who comes from a privileged background, told the judge that she paid off his debts totaling over €50,000 ($ 57,000).
Rice said that he signed the document, and a later, expanded 40-point version, in the vain hope that she would lay off him. Instead, as psychologists say is typical in such cases, it simply spurred Tantash on.
Finally, the victim decided that it would be safest to change countries, and relocated to Brighton, to take up a position as a college lecturer. Tantash, who at one point hired a private detective, and put up a £1,500 (almost $ 2,000) reward on Facebook to acquire Rice’s contact details, tracked him down and successfully applied for a job in nearby Croydon, within stalking distance of her beloved.
But in the absence of reciprocation, the tools for getting attention grew more dark and desperate. There was £200 worth of pizza ordered to his office in his name, as a gift. As punishment, she turned up in his workplace function threatening to kill herself or his colleagues. She began calling those close to him with threats, and allegations that he owed her money (purportedly for breaking the “love contract”).
As well as hacking his voicemail, Tantash physically assaulted Rice, leaving him with a shoulder injury that he said he still struggles with. But that was nothing next to the mental anguish.
“The aggressive and abusive dismantling of my life has left me vulnerable, frightened and exhausted,” Rice said in a statement, adding that he was “pushed deep into depression.”
“At my worst I have gone through periods of despair with suicide ideation.”
Tantash received her belated comeuppance only when she refocused her energies on supposed rival Sarah Bolland, Rice’s Brighton colleague.
Bolland told the court that she had no relationship with Rice, and that she was simply picked out from the staff section of the college website, to become a target for insults and death threats.
She said Rice was so caught up in Tantash’s delusions that he became convinced that he was partly to blame, which may have delayed any potential police action.
Tantash, who said that she suffered from psychological problems as part of her defense, was finally arrested last October, though continued to pester Rice even with the charges hanging over her until February this year.
During proceedings Tantash quarreled with court officials, and attempted to blame Rice for her actions, claiming he was a “narcissist” who “gaslighted” her, and alleging that she was only ever present at various public occasions uninvited as a result of “coincidences.”
“In my opinion you are vicious, devious and manipulative woman. You should be thoroughly ashamed of what you have done to Mr Rice and Miss Bolland,” said Recorder Stephen Lennard, as he read out the sentence.
Accepting her punishment, and claiming she now “deeply regrets” her behavior Tantash has offered to leave the UK upon serving her term.

The White House is in a bind following the CIA’s reported assessment that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered the murder of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the kingdom’s consulate in Turkey last month.
The crown prince was widely believed to have played a key role in carrying out the Khashoggi killing even before the CIA came back with its findings. The Saudi government denies the allegation, and so far, President Donald Trump has mostly accepted its narrative.See the rest of the story at Business Insider

In minor hockey dressing rooms across Ontario this fall, coaches will be delivering a different kind of message.
It won't be focused on power-play strategy or skating fundamentals. Instead, every coach in the province has been mandated to carry out a pre-season chat with players about gender diversity, respect and inclusion.
"We want to make the game inclusive and understand that our coaches' responsibility is not to judge individuals on the face of things, but to create an environment where everyone feels respected and comfortable in a hockey arena," said Phil McKee, executive director of the Ontario Hockey Federation, which oversees hundreds of clubs across the province.
Coaches across Canada receive some training around gender and inclusion as part of a mandatory Respect in Sport course that all coaches must take before stepping behind a bench. But Ontario is the first province to mandate a pre-season chat of this kind.
It's not a move the OHF made entirely voluntarily. Rather, it was part of the settlement of a case brought before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario back in 2013. A complaint was brought by Jesse Thompson of Oshawa, Ont., a transgender teen who told the tribunal he was outed when he was asked to use a dressing room that aligned with his gender at birth (female), and not his identified gender (male). The tribunal heard that Thompson wasn't allowed in the boys' room and, at the same time, some parents of female players objected to him using the girls' room.
McKee said the mandatory conversations will be held among teams of all ages, across all levels of competition. As part of the settlement, the OHF will also conduct random audits until at least 80 per cent of organizations under its umbrella have instituted the mandated chats.
McKee said the OHF is providing organizations with detailed checklists to help them navigate what some see as difficult subject matter. He said Hockey Canada reached out to Egale Canada, an LGBT advocacy group, to help guide coaches on matters such as "introductory pronoun check-ins."
"Pre-season chats are a great opportunity for everyone on your team, including coaches, assistant coaches and volunteers, to share the name and gender pronoun by which they wish to be called," Egale said in the package it provides to the OHF to distribute to coaches. "Explain that it is important to ask for and share gender pronouns, just like names, because it is not something you can always tell just by looking at someone. Tell players that it is OK to make mistakes but that it is important to show that they are trying to remember by simply apologizing and correcting themselves if they do slip up."
Coaches are also reminded to discuss a player's rights when it comes to gender identity. "Explain that it is everyone's right to define and express their gender without fear of being discriminated against or harassed," Egale advises. "State that this means that everyone has the right to be referred to by the name and gender pronoun they request and the right to use the washroom or dressing room (or any other gender-specific space) where they feel most comfortable."
Egale has also provided coaches with a detailed glossary, including terms associated with assigned sex (like intersex) and terms associated with gender (like polygender and cisgender).
McKee said the initial response from coaches has been mixed.
"Depends on who you talk to. Some people feel like it's just checking a box but other people definitely learned a lot."
David Noon coaches a team of eight-year-olds in Toronto. He agrees with what the OHF is trying to do.
"You have to be respectful to everybody and I think it's important to understand that," Noon said. "You have to make everyone around you feel comfortable and I think that comes from knowledge and understanding people."
However, he doesn't think it's a message coaches should have to deliver. Instead, it should be an opportunity for parents to coach the coach.
"I think to put the onus on the coach is irresponsible. It's not the coach's responsibility. It's the parent's responsibility," Noon said.
"If you are a parent and you want to make your son or daughter comfortable in a situation on a team, it's your responsibility to educate the coach or manager of the the team to create a comfortable environment for your child."
McKee understands that some coaches and parents may feel uncomfortable with the subject matter, but he said there is little choice.
"We are not asking coaches to deliver sex education here," he said. "We are asking coaches to build an environment of inclusiveness and respect and provide information, an aspect of understanding.
"It's not your job to inform other players and parents that somebody is transgender. It's to provide confidentiality and accommodation."
McKee acknowledges this isn't a widespread issue in hockey or a topic traditionally associated with the game. He said the OHF is currently working with about 60 cases where it is ensuring local clubs are properly accommodating players.
"Is it an overwhelming percentage of our population? No. It is about making people who may feel different feel comfortable, that they can enjoy and live their lives while playing the game of hockey and have fun. And part of that is making people move beyond their comfort zones and hopefully this will help."
He said before this ruling, it wasn't an issue he gave a lot of thought to.
"It gave me a real understanding that everyone is different in their own way," McKee said. "You may dress as a boy, you may dress as a girl. You may dress in a feminine way, you may dress in a masculine way, and that may have nothing to do with who you feel you are as an individual inside or who you are attracted to on the outside."
