Fans know the highlander has been in battle many times but could this spell the end for Jamie or at least separate him from Claire once more.

Furthermore, it looks like Jamie will change his mind about fighting for the English, which means he may be forced to go into hiding once more.

“I swore an oath to the crown but I will not stand by and watch my kin killed,” he tells Claire.

His plans leave Claire rather concerned as she begs him to be careful, scared of losing her husband.

Not quite sure what happened at the end of this week’s This Is Us? Good, says Milo Ventimiglia, who pulled double duty by acting in and directing the episode: That was the point.

A scene at the end of the hour found adult Kate and Rebecca sifting through Polaroids taken when The Big Three were around 18. The women cheerfully reminisced… until they came across a photo of teenage Kate and her boyfriend, Marc, that gave them pause. The conversation then turned to what Rebecca wished she’d been able to see unfolding before her during those tough years immediately following Jack’s death. Was she referring to abuse? Something else? Viewers were left to wonder. (Read a full recap here.)

The moment was one of several emotionally fraught ones in the episode, and Ventimiglia tells TVLine that much of his preparation for directing his first installment of the drama centered on getting them exactly right.

“Once I visualized everything and understand what I need, then it’s, ‘How do I shoot it efficiently?’ Not only for the crew, but for the actors coming in. How do I not overshoot and wear someone down in their performance, because there are some pretty heavy beats,” he says. Among them: Randall and Beth’s handling of Tess’ newly discovered anxiety issues, Kevin’s burgeoning friendship with Cassidy and Rebecca’s blowup at her kids in the kitchen. And then…

This Is Us Season 4 Episode 5 Milo Ventimiglia“Oh my God, Kate in the very ending,” he adds. “We need the audience to ask the question: ‘What the f–k happened?!’” And lest you think you’re reading too much into Kate and Rebecca’s reactions to the shot of Marc, “It’s 100 percent a thing,” he confirms.

Read on as Ventimiglia takes us through his turn behind the camera — and the Easter eggs you might’ve missed.

TVLINE |This was quite the episode to direct.
Yeah. There was a lot going on in it, right?

TVLINE | Yeah — let’s start there. It seemed like there were a lot of small scenes that needed to be nailed. Accurate read?
Sure.

TVLINE | From a directorial standpoint, do you find that tougher? Easier?
No. I mean it doesn’t matter if something is a tiny scene or a seven-page walk-and-talk. They’re all the same. Whatever these characters are going through, whatever story you have to service, it’s all the same. There are no big or small moments. All scenes are equally important. But knowing that, it was like, “How do I shoot the show efficiently so that I’m not undercutting one moment versus another?” There was a lot of micro detail within a scene for each character, so it’s just tracking all that. What it really came down to for me as a director was homework and preparation.

TVLINE | Give me a sense of what the prep looked like for you.
For me, it’s reading the script, taking some notes on things that stood out. It’s a lot of visualizing. I really need to see it, and a lot of that visualization happens from visiting the sets and spending some time just walking around. When I was a younger actor and I would do theater, I would spend a lot of time just walking around stage and becoming intimately knowledgeable of every detail on stage or in a set — and [in this episode], we had quite a few sets that were new that were never built. So Rebecca and Kate’s new home, I had to wait until maybe a day or two before we started filming before I could really walk around and understand, But we have an amazing production team. I said, “Can we get the couches oriented this way? Or move the table here, get a refrigerator over here?” It’s like, “Help me out in getting the set pieces together.”

This Is Us Season 4 Episode 5 Milo Ventimiglia… [There were] all these little details. I mean there’s even little Easter eggs I kind of threw into it, just because it made me laugh and chuckle. In that stack of photos in the piano bench, there were some photos of Jack and Rebecca from the past when they were younger. Mandy and I took those the first episode back just as a fun thing, and I handed them off to our prop guy. Just like, “Maybe we’ll use these later on,” and it turns out we’re using them. Maybe we go back and revisit that moment, or a little nod to the pilot with my opening with all the boxes and whatnot. So there are things. The detail is well thought-out.

TVLINE | Most of the cast was in this episode.
Yeah. Just about everybody.

TVLINE | Is there anyone you feel like you now have a greater kinship with, because of the directing?
You know, because I hadn’t really been on set with the adult Big Three — Sterling [K. Brown], Justin [Hartley], Chrissy [Metz] —  I think there was a little caution from them to be like, “OK, how is this going to go?” Sterling and I, we found right away this rhythm of working where… I mean, I was basically there just to serve these actors and serve this crew and offer advice and points of view and perspective when maybe I saw an opportunity to go from a good performance to a great performance. My job was also do that quickly. Get people onboard and let them know that you’re there looking out for them and you’re not going to make them look bad and you’re going to support them and help them along the way.

We have pros on set and everybody is great and everybody wants to be there and is excited to be there. All I was there to do was help find little nuances to make great performances really amazing.

TVLINE | These are two very dumb questions to close us out, especially after your very thoughtful answers so far. But bear with me. First, what was in the ice cream carton? Because it wasn’t ice cream.
[Laughs] No, it was not. I think it was kind of like a giant stick of butter. We needed something that wasn’t going to melt on us. We needed something that was going to cut like ice cream, which it did. It was like a sweet stick of butter. It was kind of delicious, but you really didn’t want to eat too much of it.

TVLINE | During the very funny scene with the pigeon in the house, was it hard for you or Mandy not to break? I imagine a lot of what you were doing was kind of off the cuff.
There was a lot of humor in it, and we did laugh about a lot of it. But at the end of the day it was just one of those days you kind of cross your fingers and you do the homework and you get everybody on the same page and you hope that everything works out. By the end of it, I was exhausted and really elated with what we got. I felt like we got everything. The bird was remarkable. The scenes we actually filmed with the bird were really great. The bird performed, so much so that we had very little need for [special effects], but it really folded in nicely with the [special effects].

Fear the Walking Dead season 5: Victor Strand’s death sealed as star drops ominous hint? https://briefnews.eu/fear-the-walking-dead-season-5-victor-strands-death-sealed-as-star-drops-ominous-hint/ https://briefnews.eu/fear-the-walking-dead-season-5-victor-strands-death-sealed-as-star-drops-ominous-hint/#respond Sat, 15 Jun 2019 01:23:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/fear-the-walking-dead-season-5-victor-strands-death-sealed-as-star-drops-ominous-hint/

Fear the Walking Dead saw some dramatic scenes last week, as Daniel Salazar (played by Ruben Blades) reunited with Victor Strand (Colman Domingo).

Their reunion was much anticipated, as the rivals last saw each other in season three, during a fight which left Salazar in a horrific state.

However it seems as if their fighting is now a little water-under-the-bridge, as they met with a less than aggressive demeanour.

It doesn’t look like Strand is out of the woods with Salazar just yet, though, and actor Colman has recently explained he isn’t afraid of being killed off or turned in upcoming episodes.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, he explained he isn’t afraid of being killed off, adding: “Not at all.”

“Honestly,” he continued. “I feel like I’m so prepared that if they told me that I was going to be bitten this season or next season, I think I would be okay.”

Colman went on to say it is not a fear he has anymore – which doesn’t bode well for his character.

His lack of fear doesn’t come from being confident in his employability, however, it comes down to the show’s narrative.

Colman explained: “I think, you know, the nature of storytelling, and you feel like whatever tells the best story… it’s just the nature of the show.”

Despite sounding like his story could be up soon, he did go on to clarify: “I think Strand has a lot more story to tell, but I think that who knows.

“If they decided something else, I think cool.”

Colman is also jumping into episode three as director of the episode – which is a first for the actor.

If the showrunners did decide to kill him off, at least he may still be employed by the show as a director – if all works out.

Last week’s episode dropped a nuclear bombshell on the show’s audience, as a new type of walker was revealed: the nuclear walker.

After being attacked by a zombie which looked a little different than usual, Morgan (Lennie James) was told by newcomer Grace (Karen David) they were radioactive.

Showrunners Ian Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the inclusion of the new enemies, and revealed they were originally going to bring them on board back in season four.

They explained: “Just to add, we almost did radioactive zombies in season four, but we just really didn’t have the room for it.

“So it’s something we kind of had in our back pocket that we were very excited about, and just having walkers that weren’t as easy to kill.”

If the nuclear walkers have a huge part to play in the rest of the season, they may be a huge change-up for the show.

Fear the Walking Dead continues Monday on AMC UK, while The Walking Dead is expected to return later this year.

The following Q&A spoils the events of Netflix’s What/If. Haven’t finished yet? Get to streaming!

By the time the 10-hour rollercoaster known as Netflix’s What/If comes to a screeching halt, none of its passengers resemble the people they were when they first got on board. For example, former fledging businesswoman Lisa is finally owning her power, ascending to the ranks of Anne Montgomery, who has faked her own death and is now living abroad — as a brunette!

Meanwhile, Todd and Angela are starting a new life with their family after putting Ian down once and for all, and Marcos and Lionel are committing to spend the rest of their lives together as husbands, having conquered their own trust issues.

Below, series creator Mike Kelley fields some of TVLine’s questions about the ending of Part 1, including what that fourth wall-breaking final shot really meant:

TVLINE | Let’s start with my personal favorite twist: Anne is Lisa’s mother! Did Renee Zellweger and Jane Levy know that when they signed on?
They did. It was a big reason, I think, why Renee signed on. It occurred me that there wasn’t any female version of Darth Vader out there. Like, “Come rule the galaxy with me.” … It was important to me that everyone knew what they were signing up for, and they were all game. The trick on this show was the tone — how to strike it and how to have a lot of fun.

What/If Anne Is AliveTVLINE | Does Lisa know she’s alive?
What I decided to do with this finale was have each of the characters take a step towards their future and leave the audience to decide what those futures look like. Breaking [the fourth] wall, having Lisa look at Anne and vice versa, is kind of provocative. What it says to me is that in Lisa’s heart of hearts, she believes Anne is still out there. And in Anne’s world, she’s actually won. She wins either way. Either she gets everything, including Lisa, or Lisa becomes a better version of herself, which is also a victory. Whether or not Anne would choose to muddle that up later, I don’t know, but I do know she takes pleasure in where Lisa ended up.

TVLINE | In the end, how important was what happened “that night”?
That’s what was so diabolical and interesting. Anne knew it wasn’t going to be what happened that night that would drive a wedge between Sean and Lisa, creating chaos. It was the clause that said they couldn’t talk about it. This is an examination of trust. As Anne would like to say, trust is the most dangerous thing you can give away. When you cauterize the ability of anyone to have a conversation and share their experience, that’s what f–s everything up. The important thing is to be able to talk through our differences — and secrets are really toxic. So it wasn’t so much what happened as it was not knowing, and not being able to know.

TVLINE | The power of paranoia.
Exactly.

TVLINE | And Angela and Todd — they’re just going to get away with murder?
I tried to make it clear what the story would be, about how that all happened. Basically, like his father, Ian gets caught in a bear trap and the hunter comes along and shoots him for mercy. So people wouldn’t go looking for a murderer. They’d just think, “My God, he was in a bear trap.”

What/If Ian DeadTVLINE | Yeah, I’m not a big hunter. And I definitely won’t become one after this. But I did have a lot of fun watching Dave Annable play such a monster. I’ve only ever seen him play good guys.
He actually is the world’s nicest guy, too. He’s as sweet as they come. And he made a decision to really commit to this crazy thing. That storyline was borrowed from Fatal Attraction, but I thought, “Let’s switch those genders up too, and see what we can come up with.” Everybody makes mistakes — and this one was deadly.

TVLINE | Well, at least Marcos and Lionel got the happy ending they deserved. Kevin really could have driven a wedge between them, but instead he brought them closer. What was the thought process behind this storyline?
While I was contemplating the what/ifs in life, not all of them are regrets. Not all of them lead us down a dark road. Sometimes a risky thing you do can change your world for the better. I also wanted to balance out the insanity. I thought of the Lionel-Marcos-Kevin story as the fulcrum in the center of this crazy balancing act. It was important to me that you had an emotional center for the show that felt real and that made you think about fidelity, about honesty and about trust. And about sex in general, how much power sex has over a lot of relationships.

We’ll have more of Kelley’s thoughts on Part 1 (and beyond?) in the coming days. For now, grade the finale below and drop a comment with your own burning questions.

  • Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in taking military action in Venezuela.
  • Experts and officials from around the region have rebuffed such action, with some comparing it to the invasion of Iraq.
  • But others have held out military action, as part of a collective response, as an option of last resort.

President Donald Trump’s unexpected declaration in August 2017 that he was “not going to rule out a military option” in Venezuela earned swift rebuke both inside and outside the US.

But in the year since the US has kept pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s government, punishing dozens of officials with sanctions but sparing others in a gambit to stoke tensions in Caracas.
