After Thanos’ Snap it’s presumed Captain is the universe’s main hope in Avengers 4.

After all why would Nick Fury send her a distress call as he turned to ash in the Avengers Infinity War post-credits scene if she wasn’t a match for the Mad Titan?

Marvel fans are hoping Captain Marvel’s solo outing, which is set in the 1990s, will help set up Avengers 4 and shed some like on the yet-to-be-revealed superhero.

Now an allegedly leaked plot has been shared on by an anonymous source, . The following should be read with a pinch of salt since it’s unconfirmed.

WARNING POTENTIAL SPOILERS FOR CAPTAIN MARVEL AHEAD

The source writes: “1995. United States Air Force Captain Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) is caught in an explosion and develops superpowers.

“She is rescued by renegade Kree scientist Mar-Vell (Jude Law), who reveals that the Krees’ lifelong enemies, the shapeshifting Skrulls, are planning to conquer Earth for its natural resources, and Kree commander Yon-Rogg (Ben Mendehlsohn) weaponised Mar-Vell’s research, intending to destroy Earth to cripple the Skrull Empire.

“Mar-Vell’s attempt to stop him led to the explosion that gave Carol her powers. Mar-Vell wants to cure Carol, but when she learns about the war, she wants to fight. They also develop feelings for each other.”

They continued: “Carol and Mar-Vell join forces with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to prevent the Skrulls from conquering Earth and the Kree from destroying the world.

“Fury loses an eye fighting the Skrulls and Mar-Vell is killed by Yon-Rogg, who is then betrayed by geneticist Min-Erva (Gemma Chan), who is actually a Skrull spy.

“Carol repels both armadas from the Earth. She gives a device for Fury to contact her if she is needed and departs to space to learn more about her powers and keep fighting the Kree and the Skrulls.

“Min-Erva survives and hides on Earth to continue her research, while Fury creates the Avengers Initiative to protect Earth in the future.”

They added: “Ronan (Lee Pace) and Korath (Djimon Hounson) have minor roles as Yon-Rogg’s enforcers sent after Mar-Vell, while Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) is the agent deployed by Fury to investigate Carol.

“Carol’s parents, Joseph and Marie Danvers, are played by Kenneth Mitchell and Annette Benning, and her brother Steve is played by Colin Ford. Lashana Lynch plays Carol’s best friend Maria Rambeau, who has a young daughter, Monica.

“Rune Temte is playing Skrull Emperor Dorrek, while Algenis Soto and Robert Kazinsky are assassins Titannus and Paibook.

“Pete Ploszek plays Carol’s douchebag ex-boyfriend Mike Ross, while Vik Sahay is wisecracking NASA engineer Jay Patel.”

Captain Marvel will be released in UK cinemas on March 8, 2019.

Mueller obtained a new search warrant against Manafort last month, and it could signal a huge shift in the Russia investigation https://briefnews.eu/mueller-obtained-a-new-search-warrant-against-manafort-last-month-and-it-could-signal-a-huge-shift-in-the-russia-investigation/ https://briefnews.eu/mueller-obtained-a-new-search-warrant-against-manafort-last-month-and-it-could-signal-a-huge-shift-in-the-russia-investigation/#respond Fri, 06 Apr 2018 04:09:16 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/mueller-obtained-a-new-search-warrant-against-manafort-last-month-and-it-could-signal-a-huge-shift-in-the-russia-investigation/ robert mueller

  • The special counsel Robert Mueller obtained a search warrant against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort as recently as March 9, new court documents show.
  • The search warrant was related to “ongoing investigations that are not the subject of the current prosecutions involving Manafort.”
  • The revelation indicates Mueller’s focus on Manafort is now shifting from examining his Ukraine lobbying work to possible collusion with Russia while he was chairman of President Donald Trump campaign in 2016.

The special counsel Robert Mueller obtained a new search warrant against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort less than a month ago, according to court documents filed on Thursday.

Mueller’s office made the revelation in an opposition it filed to Manafort’s recent motion to compel the government to turn over un-redacted versions of search and seizure warrants it had obtained against him. Mueller’s office said that after Manafort first raised the issue, the US government gave the defense copies of six affidavits — three of them had no redactions, and the other three had minimal redactions.

  • Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley obtained a copy of former National Security Adviser Susan Rice’s email memorializing a January 2017 meeting on June 16, 2017.
  • But Grassley and committee member Lindsey Graham didn’t raise questions about the email, which they described as “unusual” and “disturbing,” until February 8, 2018.
  • It’s unclear why the lawmakers waited almost eight months to address the email, which they suggested was proof of former President Barack Obama’s influence over the FBI’s Russia investigation.

The Senate Judiciary Committee obtained a copy of former National Security Adviser Susan Rice’s email documenting a meeting she had with former President Barack Obama and top intelligence officials eight months before raising concerns about the email, Business Insider has learned.

Rice’s email memorialized a January 5, 2017 meeting she attended with Obama, then-Vice President Joe Biden, then-FBI Director James Comey, and then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates.

Trump lawyer says ‘Russiagate’ probe head Mueller illegally obtained 10,000s emails https://briefnews.eu/trump-lawyer-says-russiagate-probe-head-mueller-illegally-obtained-10000s-emails/ https://briefnews.eu/trump-lawyer-says-russiagate-probe-head-mueller-illegally-obtained-10000s-emails/#respond Sun, 17 Dec 2017 05:04:51 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/trump-lawyer-says-russiagate-probe-head-mueller-illegally-obtained-10000s-emails/ FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller, looking for collusion between US President Donald Trump and Russia, has breached the law by requesting a government agency to hand over confidential emails, Trump’s counsel told Congress.

In a letter sent to the House and the Senate and seen by Fox News, Kory Langhofer, lawyer for Trump’s transition team, claimed that Mueller obtained “tens of thousands of emails,” including confidential communications between a client and a lawyer, due to “unlawful conduct” by the staffers at the General Services Administration (GSA), which hosted the Trump team’s email servers during the transition.

Accusing the GSA of “unauthorized disclosures” for giving Mueller access to private information it “did not own or control,” Langhofer went to blame the agency for infringing on the right of the US citizens to be secure against unreasonable searches and seizures, as guaranteed by the 4th Amendment.

The special counsel’s office has reportedly made “extensive use” of the texts seized from Trump’s transition team that include “materials that are susceptible to privilege claims,” Langhofer wrote, adding that apart from internal emails, the GSA also handed over laptops, cell phones and an iPad at its own liberty.

Trump’s team discovered what it believes a breach of privacy on December 12 and December 13, the lawyer said, noting that some of the compromised materials were leaked to the media by “unknown persons.”

Appealing to the Senate Homeland Security and House Oversight Committee, Langhofer called on them to ensure future transitions are secured form being mishandled by government bodies, in particular when it is under an investigation driven by political motives.

With the lingering probe into Trump’s alleged ties to Russia having failed so far to produce any proof to support the allegations, it itself has been hit with claims of potential conflict of interest. Last week, it was revealed that one of Mueller’s investigative team members, prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, publicly expressed his admiration to former US Attorney General Sally Yates, fired by Trump after defying a travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries. It was also reported that Weissmann attended former Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s election party in November 2016.

In another revelation, Mueller’s “right-hand man” investigator Aaron Zebley was found to have acted as an attorney for an IT staffer, who installed Clinton’s email private servers and destroyed her old Blackberry phones. The report by Fox News raised more questions about the independence of the former FBI director’s investigative machine.

Last week it became known that Mueller had been forced to remove FBI agent Peter Strzok from the investigative team in the summer after it was revealed that Strzok exchanged anti-Trump text messages with another former team member, Lisa Page.

The growing pile of revelations is still unlikely to jeopardize the entire investigation. On Saturday, the White House said it is not considering firing Mueller despite the controversies.

“As the White House has consistently said for months, there is no consideration of firing the special counsel,” Ty Cobb, the White House special counsel, said in a statement to CNN.

For almost two months in 2014, servers belonging to Moscow-based Kaspersky Lab received confidential National Security Agency materials from a poorly secured computer located in the United States that stored the files, most likely in violation of US laws, company officials said.

The classified source code, documents, and executable binaries were stored on a computer that used an IP address reserved for Verizon FIOS customers in Baltimore, about 20 miles from the NSA’s Fort Meade, Maryland, headquarters, Kaspersky Lab said in an investigation report it published early Thursday morning. Starting on September 11, 2014 and running until November 9 of that year, Kaspersky Lab servers downloaded the confidential files multiple times after the company’s antivirus software, which was installed on the machine, found they contained malicious code from Equation Group, an NSA-linked hacking group that operated for at least 14 years before Kaspersky exposed it in 2015.

The downloads—which, like other AV software, the Kaspersky program automatically initiated when it encountered suspicious software that warranted further inspection—included a 45MB 7-Zip archive that contained source code, malicious executables, and four documents bearing US government classification markings. A company analyst who manually reviewed the archive quickly determined it contained confidential material. Within a few days and at the direction of CEO and founder Eugene Kaspersky, the company deleted all materials except for the malicious binaries. The company then created a special software tweak to prevent the 7-Zip file from being downloaded again.

NotPetya developers may have obtained NSA exploits weeks before their public leak [Updated] https://briefnews.eu/notpetya-developers-may-have-obtained-nsa-exploits-weeks-before-their-public-leak-updated/ https://briefnews.eu/notpetya-developers-may-have-obtained-nsa-exploits-weeks-before-their-public-leak-updated/#respond Sat, 01 Jul 2017 12:24:51 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/notpetya-developers-may-have-obtained-nsa-exploits-weeks-before-their-public-leak-updated/

Update: This post was revised throughout to reflect changes F-Secure made to Thursday’s blog post. The company now says that the NotPetya component was probably completed in February, and assuming that timeline is correct, it didn’t have any definitive bearing on when the NSA exploits were obtained. F-Secure Security Advisor Sean Sullivan tells Ars that the component weaves in the NSA exploits so well that it’s likely the developers had access to the NSA code. “It strongly hints at this possibility,” he said. “We feel strongly that this is the best theory to debunk.” This post has been revised to make clear that the early access is currently an unproven theory.

Original Story: The people behind Tuesday’s massive malware outbreak might have had access to two National Security Agency-developed exploits several weeks before they were published on the Internet, according to clues researchers from antivirus F-Secure found in some of its code.

EternalBlue and EternalRomance, as the two exploits were codenamed, were two of more than a dozen hacking tools leaked on April 14 by an as-yet unknown group calling itself the Shadow Brokers. Almost immediately, blackhat and grayhat hackers used EternalBlue to compromise large numbers of computers running out-of-date versions of Microsoft Windows. Within a week or two, blackhats started using EternalBlue to install cryptomining malware. No one really noticed until the outbreak of the WCry ransomware worm on May 12, which infected an estimated 727,000 computers in 90 countries.

The FBI reportedly obtained a FISA warrant to surveil a former Trump adviser https://briefnews.eu/the-fbi-reportedly-obtained-a-fisa-warrant-to-surveil-a-former-trump-adviser/ https://briefnews.eu/the-fbi-reportedly-obtained-a-fisa-warrant-to-surveil-a-former-trump-adviser/#respond Tue, 11 Apr 2017 23:53:29 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-fbi-reportedly-obtained-a-fisa-warrant-to-surveil-a-former-trump-adviser/ carter pageAP

The FBI obtained a FISA warrant last summer to monitor the communications of Carter Page, who was an early foreign-policy adviser to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, The Washington Post reported on Tuesday.

The energy-consultant-turned-foreign-policy adviser was named in an unverified dossier about President Donald Trump’s ties to Russia as a liaison between the Trump campaign and Russian officials. His trips to Moscow and contact with at least one Russian official last year are now reportedly under FBI investigation.

Page has called accusations that he served as a liaison an “illegal” form of “retribution” for a speech he gave in July at the New Economic School in Moscow in which he slammed the US for its “hypocritical focus on ideas such as democratization, inequality, corruption, and regime change.”

Page did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment. But he told The Washington Post on Tuesday that the existence of the FISA “confirms all of my suspicions about unjustified, politically motivated government surveillance…I have nothing to hide.”

Law-enforcement and intelligence agencies wishing to monitor signal intelligence they deem relevant to an investigation — in this case, suspected Russian interference in the 2016 election — must obtain what is known as a FISA warrant from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.

The government’s application for the FISA warrant targeting Page, The Post reported, has been renewed more than once, and “included a lengthy declaration that laid out investigators’ basis for believing that Page was an agent of the Russian government and knowingly engaged in clandestine intelligence activities on behalf of Moscow.”

There were contacts Page had with Russian intelligence officials that he did not disclose, according to The Post, and unanswered questions about a court case involving a Russian spy who tried to recruit him in 2013.

BuzzFeed News obtained the court filing for the case, which included a transcript of a conversation between Victor Podobnyy, the person accused of spying, and Igor Sporyshev, another Russian operative, about trying to recruit someone identified as “Male-1.”

Page confirmed to BuzzFeed that he was “Male-1.” But he said in a statement later that his personal identity was made “easily identifiable” in the court documents because the US government wanted to punish him for his “public positions of dissent.”

Page found himself at the center of a Russia-related firestorm in late February after USA Today reported that he met Russia’s ambassador to the US, Sergey Kislyak, during an event at the Republican National Convention. At least two other Trump associates, former adviser J.D. Gordon and then-Sen. Jeff Sessions, now the US attorney general, also spoke with Kislyak at the convention.

The White House has distanced itself from Page, insisting that he was an “informal” adviser to the campaign who left in early September. Page had no badge, an administration official told Business Insider last month, and never signed a non-disclosure agreement — two requirements of anyone working with the campaign in an official capacity. He also wasn’t on the campaign’s payroll, the official said, and did not have a campaign email account.

The Senate Intelligence Committee, which is investigating Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, has asked Page to preserve all information related to contacts with Russians during the campaign. He volunteered to be interviewed by the committee last month.

3 US senators want to know whether Trump’s national security aide illegally obtained US citizenship https://briefnews.eu/3-us-senators-want-to-know-whether-trumps-national-security-aide-illegally-obtained-us-citizenship/ https://briefnews.eu/3-us-senators-want-to-know-whether-trumps-national-security-aide-illegally-obtained-us-citizenship/#respond Sat, 18 Mar 2017 05:03:41 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/3-us-senators-want-to-know-whether-trumps-national-security-aide-illegally-obtained-us-citizenship/ Sebastian GorkaAlex Wong/Getty Images

Three US senators say they want Sebastian Gorka — a deputy assistant to President Donald Trump — investigated over his immigration status.

Sens. Dick Durbin of Illinois, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, and Ben Cardin of Maryland sent a joint letter to the US Justice Department on Friday asking the agency to look into whether Gorka “falsified his naturalization application or otherwise illegally procured his citizenship.”

The inquiry comes after an exposé earlier this week alleged that Gorka had ties to Nazi-aligned groups.

The story, published by The Forward, alleged that Gorka is a sworn lifetime member of a Hungarian anti-Semitic, far-right group known as Vitézi Rend, which is listed by the US State Department as having been “under the direction of the Nazi Government of Germany” during World War II.

Gorka has denied the allegations.

The senators said in their letter that they are “deeply concerned” by reports Gorka allegedly hid his supposed connections to Vitézi Rend when he applied for US citizenship, citing US code that prohibits such applicants from making false statements during naturalization proceedings.

The senators said in the letter their concerns about Gorka are aggravated by “the White House’s own checkered record on religious discrimination.”

“For the first time in decades, the White House’s statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day failed to mention the Jewish victims, an omission which Dr. Gorka publicly defended,” the letter read. “President Trump was slow to condemn the wave of attacks on Jewish community centers and has yet to condemn the surge in anti-Muslim bigotry.”

Additionally, the senators’ letter linked the Trump administration’s moves to temporarily ban travel to the US from six majority Muslim nations as evidence to suggest public policy from the White House is being guided by principles uncharacteristic of American democracy.

Read the senators’ full letter below:

Dear Acting Deputy Attorney General Boente and Secretary Kelly:

We urge you to immediately investigate whether senior White House counterterrorism advisor Sebastian Gorka falsified his naturalization application or otherwise illegally procured his citizenship.

We are deeply concerned by reports that Dr. Gorka concealed the material fact of his membership in the Vitézi Rend, a far-right anti-Semitic Hungarian organization, when he applied for U.S. citizenship. As you know, it is unlawful to make a false statement in naturalization proceedings (18 U.S.C. 1015) and procuring naturalization by concealing a material fact or willful misrepresentation is punishable by denaturalization (8 U.S.C. 1425, 8 U.S.C. 1451).

According to the Forward, leaders of the Historical Vitézi Rend have identified Dr. Gorka as a sworn member of the organization who took a “lifelong oath of loyalty.” The State Department identifies the original Vitézi Rend, as a virulently anti-Semitic organization that operated under the direction of the Nazis during World War II. Dr. Gorka was photographed wearing a Vitézi Rend medal on several occasions, including at a Presidential inaugural ball earlier this year. He has also identified himself as “Dr. Sebastian L. v. Gorka” in written testimony before Congress. Experts note that the initial “v.” is used by sworn members of the Vitézi Rend.

We note that this Administration purports to have a special interest in ensuring that those with extremist views do not exploit our immigration laws. The President’s January 27thExecutive Order states, “In order to protect Americans, the United States must ensure that those admitted to this country do not bear hostile attitudes toward it and its founding principles. … the United States should not admit those who engage in acts of bigotry or hatred (including … the persecution of those who practice religions different from their own).” Membership in an anti-Semitic organization like the Historical Vitézi Rend should raise serious concerns regarding whether an individual holds the sort of “hostile attitudes” that concern the Administration. Failure to address this case would further confirm the intent of this Administration is to discriminate on the basis of religion, rather than combat extremist views.

We are particularly troubled by Dr. Gorka’s reported affiliation with an anti-Semitic organization because of the White House’s own checkered record on religious discrimination. For the first time in decades, the White House’s statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day failed to mention the Jewish victims, an omission which Dr. Gorka publicly defended. President Trump was slow to condemn the wave of attacks on Jewish community centers and has yet to condemn the surge in anti-Muslim bigotry. And the President has signed two executive orders, both of which have been blocked by federal courts, barring people from Muslim-majority countries and all refugees from entering the United States. The President’s orders are a notable departure from our nation’s bipartisan tradition of welcoming refugees, which was established in the aftermath of our tragic failure to provide safe haven to Jews who were fleeing the Holocaust.

Again, we urge you to immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding Gorka’s naturalization. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

RICHARD J. DURBIN
