It’s been 15 years since Monica, Rachel et al. last headed out to Central Perk — but our favorite Friends have never really gone away. In addition to myriad cast reunions, many of the stars of the beloved ’90s comedy — which aired its series finale on May 6, 2004 — have gone on to lead their own series. Some have been creative triumphs (think The Comeback, Cougar Town, Episodes), while others have gone the way of Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E. Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry all returned to primetime within five years of Friends‘ conclusion. David Schwimmer, meanwhile, took a 12-year break before he signed on for The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. The lone holdout has been Jennifer Aniston, who will soon star opposite Reese Witherspoon — aka Rachel’s sister Jill — in the Apple TV+ drama Morning Show. In total, there have been over a dozen follow-ups headlined by the former castmates — and TVLine has ranked each and every one of them, beginning with the very worst. Excluded are any series where the actor involved was merely a guest star (such as Schwimmer’s recent arc on Will & Grace), as well as any unscripted endeavors (such as LeBlanc’s stint on Top Gear). Browse the gallery below — you can click here for direct access — then hit the comments and tell us which follow-up project was your fave. ABC has retained Marcia Clark for pilot season: The network has ordered a drama pilot co-written and executive-produced by the former O.J. Simpson prosecutor.

Former football legend O.J. Simpson became a free man again Sunday after serving nine years for a botched hotel room heist in Las Vegas that brought the conviction and prison time he avoided after his acquittal for the killings of his ex-wife and her friend after his 1995 “trial of the century” in Los Angeles.
Simpson was released at 12:08 a.m. PT from Lovelock Correctional Center in northern Nevada, state prisons spokeswoman Brooke Keast told The Associated Press. She said she did not know the driver who met Simpson upon his release and didn’t know where Simpson was immediately headed in his first hours of freedom.
“I don’t have any information on where he’s going,” Keast added.
Neither Simpson’s attorney, Malcolm LaVergne in Las Vegas, nor state Parole and Probation Capt. Shawn Arruti, who has been handling Simpson’s case, immediately responded to messages.
Keast said the dead-of-night release from the prison about 145 kilometres east of Reno, Nev., was conducted to avoid media attention.
“We needed to do this to ensure public safety and to avoid any possible incident,” Keast added, speaking by telephone. She spoke from Lovelock, where she said she witnessed Simpson signing documents to be released.
The 70-year-old Simpson gains his freedom after being granted parole at a hearing in July. Unlike the last time he went free, 22 years ago, he will face restrictions — up to five years of parole supervision — and he’s unlikely to escape public scrutiny as the man who morphed from charismatic football hero, movie star and TV personality into suspected killer and convicted armed robber.
Simpson was looking forward to reuniting with his family, eating a steak and some seafood and moving back to Florida, LaVergne said recently.
Simpson also plans to get an iPhone and get reacquainted with technology that was in its infancy when he was sent to prison in 2008, his attorney said.
The Florida Department of Corrections, however, said officials had not received a transfer request or required documents, and the attorney general said the state didn’t want him.
“The spectre of his residing in comfort in Florida should not be an option,” Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement on Friday. “Our state should not become a country club for this convicted criminal.”
Close friend Tom Scotto, who lives in Naples, Fla., has offered to have Simpson live at his house. Scotto also didn’t immediately respond to messages about Simpson’s plans.
Simpson lost his home near Miami to foreclosure in 2012.
Two of Simpson’s children, Justin and Sydney, also live in Florida.
He could live at least temporarily in Las Vegas, where a friend let Simpson use his home for five weeks during his robbery trial.
His five years of parole supervision could be reduced with credits for good behavior.
It’s a new chapter for the one-time pop culture phenomenon whose fame was once again on display when the major TV networks carried his parole hearing live.
He told officials that leading a group of men into a 2007 armed confrontation was an error in judgment he would not repeat.
He told the parole board that he led a “conflict-free life,” an assertion that angered many who believe he got away with killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles in 1994.
Simpson was once an electrifying running back dubbed “Juice” who won the Heisman Trophy as the nation’s best college football player for USC in 1968 and became one of the NFL’s all-time greats with the Buffalo Bills.
Handsome and charming, he also provided commentary on Monday Night Football, became the face of Hertz rental-car commercials and built a movie career with roles in the Naked Gun comedies and other films.
Simpson fell from grace when he was arrested in the slayings, after a famous “slow-speed” Ford Bronco chase on California freeways. His subsequent trial became a live-TV sensation that fascinated viewers with its testimony about a bloody glove that didn’t fit and unleashed furious debate over race, police and celebrity justice.
A jury swiftly acquitted him, but two years later, Simpson was found liable in civil court for the killings and ordered to pay $ 33.5 million US to survivors, including his children and Goldman’s family.
He is still on the hook for the judgment, which now amounts to about $ 65 million US, according to a Goldman family lawyer.
On Sept. 16, 2007, he led five men he barely knew to the Palace Station casino in Las Vegas in an effort to retrieve items that Simpson insisted were stolen after his 1994 acquittal. Two of the men with Simpson in Las Vegas carried handguns, although Simpson still insists he never knew anyone was armed. He says he only wanted to retrieve personal items, mementoes and family photos.
He went to prison in 2008, receiving a stiff sentence that his lawyers said was unfair.
If the nation’s Simpson obsession waned for a while, it resurged last year with the Emmy-winning FX miniseries, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and the Oscar-winning documentary O.J.: Made in America.

O.J. Simpson was released from prison early Sunday morning after serving nine of the 33 years he was sentenced to prison for after being convicted of armed robbery and assault in Las Vegas.
Simpson was granted parole July 20 after the disgraced football star expressed regret for his actions, which he said occurred after having a few drinks and misjudging the situation.
“I haven’t made any excuses in the nine years that I’ve been here, and I’m not trying to make an excuse now,” Simpson said at the hearing.
Simpson, 70, was convicted in 2008 of robbery and assault charges after he and several friends burst into a Las Vegas hotel room armed with guns and stole about $ 100,000 worth of his sports memorabilia from collectors Alfred Beardsley and Bruce Fromong, who had been expecting to meet a wealthy buyer.
Simpson argued that the memorabilia and personal family photos were taken from him, and that he was merely trying to get the items back. He also claimed he didn’t know that his associates, who were acting as security guards, had guns with them.
Simpson was granted parole in 2013 for a series of charges related to the robbery, but had to wait another four years to become eligible for parole on the remaining convictions
The armed robbery conviction occurred exactly 13 years after a jury found Simpson not guilty of killing ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. However, he was later found civilly liable for their deaths and ordered to pay their families $ 33.5 million.
David Cook, an attorney for the Goldman family, told BuzzFeed News that the amount Simpson currently owes has grown to more than $ 50 million, and that his clients have every intention of trying to collect.
“He has paid zip,” Cook said.

Former football star O.J. Simpson was granted parole after more than eight years in prison for a Las Vegas hotel heist
]]>Simpson, 70, could be a free man as early as Oct. 1. By then, he will have served the minimum of his nine-to-33-year armed-robbery sentence for a bungled attempt to snatch sports memorabilia and other mementos he claimed had been stolen from him.
All four parole commissioners who conducted the hearing voted for his release after about a half-hour of deliberations. They cited his lack of a prior conviction, the low risk he might commit another crime, his community support and his release plans, which include moving to Florida.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” Simpson said quietly as he buried his head on his chest with relief. As he rose from his seat to return to his prison cell, he exhaled deeply.
Then, as he was led down a hall, the former athlete raised his hands over his head in a victory gesture and said, “Oh, God, oh!”
Simpson’s sister, Shirley Baker, wept and hugged Simpson’s 48-year-old daughter Arnelle, who held a hand over her mouth.
During the more than hour-long hearing, Simpson forcefully insisted — as he has all along — that he was only trying to retrieve items that belonged to him and never meant to hurt anyone. He said he never pointed a gun at anyone nor made any threats during the crime.
“I’ve done my time. I’ve done it as well and respectfully as I think anybody can,” he said.
Inmate No. 1027820 made his plea for freedom in a stark hearing room at the Lovelock Correctional Center in rural Nevada as four parole commissioners in Carson City, a two-hour drive away, questioned him via video.

Simpson, gray-haired but looking trimmer than he has in recent years, walked briskly into the hearing room dressed in jeans, a light-blue prison-issue shirt and sneakers. He laughed at one point as the parole board chairwoman mistakenly gave his age as 90.
The Hall of Fame athlete’s chances of winning release were considered good, given similar cases and Simpson’s model behaviour behind bars. His defenders have argued, too, that his sentence was out of proportion to the crime and that he was being punished for the two murders he was acquitted of during his 1995 “Trial of the Century” in Los Angeles, the stabbings of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman.
Before the hearing concluded, one of the dealers Simpson robbed, Bruce Fromong, said the former football great never pointed a gun at him during the confrontation, adding that it was one of the men with him who did so. Fromong said Simpson deserved to be released.
“He is a good man. He made a mistake,” Fromong said, adding the two remain friends.
Arnelle Simpson, also testified on his behalf, saying her father is not perfect but realizes what a mistake he made and has spent years paying for it.
“We just want him to come home, we really do,” she said.
Simpson said that he has spent his time in prison mentoring fellow inmates, often keeping others out of trouble, and believes he has become a better person during those years.
Asked if he was confident he could stay out of trouble if he’s released, Simpson replied that he learned much during an alternative-to-violence course he took in prison and that in any case he has always gotten along well with people.
“I had basically spent a conflict-free life,” he said — a remark that lit up social media with scornful and sarcastic comments given the murder case and a raft of allegations he abused his wife.

In a final statement to the board he apologized again.
“I’m sorry it happened, I’m sorry, Nevada,” he said. “I thought I was glad to get my stuff back, but it just wasn’t worth it. It wasn’t worth it and I’m sorry.”
Several major TV networks and cable channels — including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox, MSNBC and ESPN — carried the proceedings live, just as some of them did two decades ago during the Ford Bronco chase that ended in Simpson’s arrest, and again when the jury in the murder case came back with its verdict.
Simpson said if released he plans to return to Florida, where he was living before his incarceration.
“I could easily stay in Nevada, but I don’t think you guys want me here,” he joked at one point.
“No comment, sir,” one of the parole board members said.
An electrifying running back dubbed The Juice, Simpson won the Heisman Trophy as the nation’s best college football player in 1968 and went on to become one of the NFL’s all-time greats.
The handsome and charismatic athlete was also a Monday Night Football commentator, sprinted through airports in Hertz rental-car commercials and built a Hollywood career with roles in the Naked Gun comedies and other movies.
All of that came crashing down with his arrest in the 1994 slayings and his trial, a gavel-to-gavel live-TV sensation that transfixed viewers with its testimony about the bloody glove that didn’t fit and stirred furious debate over racist police, celebrity justice and cameras in the courtroom.
Last year, the case proved to be compelling TV all over again with the ESPN documentary O.J.: Made in America and the award-winning FX miniseries The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
In 1997, Simpson was found liable in civil court for the two killings and ordered to pay $ 33.5 million US to survivors, including his children and the Goldman family.
Then a decade later, he and five accomplices — two with guns — stormed a hotel room and seized photos, plaques and signed balls, some of which never belonged to Simpson, from two sports memorabilia dealers. Simpson was convicted in 2008, and the long prison sentence brought a measure of satisfaction to some of those who thought he got away with murder.

O.J. Simpson on Thursday was granted parole after serving nine years of his 33-year prison sentence for armed robbery and assault in Las Vegas a decade ago.
The decision was made after the disgraced football star expressed regret for his actions, which he said occurred after having a few drinks and misjudging the situation.
“I haven’t made any excuses in the nine years that I’ve been here, and I’m not trying to make an excuse now,” he said.
In 2007, Simpson and several friends, including Clarence “C.J.” Stewart, burst into a Las Vegas hotel room armed with guns and stole about $ 100,000 worth of his sports memorabilia from collectors Alfred Beardsley and Bruce Fromong, who had been expecting to meet a wealthy buyer.
Simpson argued the memorabilia and personal family photos were taken from him and he was merely trying to get the items back. He also claimed he didn’t know his associates, who were acting as security guards, had guns with them.
Simpson was convicted in 2008 of robbery and assault charges exactly 13 years after a jury found him not guilty of killing ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman.
O.J. Simpson holds up his hands before the jury for his murder trial in 1995.
Stewart was also convicted for his role, but was released more than a year later after the Nevada Supreme Court overturned his conviction, finding that he had been denied a fair trial by being tried alongside the much more famous — and controversial — Simpson.
Speaking to parole board members on Thursday, Simpson maintained that he had no idea two men he was with were armed and was only there to retrieve property that authorities later determined belonged to him.
“You know? It’s — it was my property,” he told board members. “I wasn’t there to steal from anybody. And I would never, ever pull a weapon, ever pull a weapon on anybody.”

Simpson, now 70, could be released as soon as Oct. 1 if a second round of parole is granted Thursday, a move many expect to happen given little, if any, opposition. Beardsley died in 2015, and Fromong has said that while he suffered several heart attacks and significant financial losses after the robbery, he has forgiven Simpson.
Simpson was accompanied at the hearing by his attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, his sister, Shirley Baker, and his daughter, Arnelle Simpson, who addressed the board.
“The choice that he made nine years ago, that resulted in this sentencing, were clearly inappropriate and wrong and counterproductive to what he was trying to achieve,” Arnelle Simpson said. But, she added, “he truly is remorseful, and we just want him to come home so that we can move forward for us.”
Fromong also addressed the board, saying he is still friends Simpson and feels nine years in prison was too long for someone who didn’t personally take part in the violence.
Bruce Fromong, who was robbed, testifies for O.J. Simpson.
“This is a good man,” he said. “He made a mistake.”
The board took a recess to deliberate and were expected to return within the hour to deliver their decision.
Simpson was previously granted parole in 2013 for a series of charges related to the robbery, but had to wait another four years to become eligible for parole on the remaining convictions.
Simpson told parole board members Thursday that he had spent his years at the Lovelock Correctional Facility in Nevada helping prisoners avoid conflict, coordinate and manage a prison yard softball league, and taking victim empathy and anger management classes.
“I’m not a guy that has conflicts on the street,” he said. “I don’t expect to have any when I — when I leave here.”
Simpson also said he has apologized to all the victims involved and truly regrets his actions.
In the end, all four parole board members voted to grant Simpson early release, which could happen as soon as October.
But even when he is set free, Simpson’s legal troubles are far from over.
O.J. Simpson conducts an impromptu news conference in 1997 after a hearing in which the government demanded more than $ 600,000 in back taxes.
He was found civilly liable in 1997 for the deaths of Brown and Goldman and was ordered to pay their families $ 33.5 million. However, the attorney for the Goldman family, David Cook, told BuzzFeed News that the amount Simpson now owes has grown to more than $ 50 million.
“He has paid zip,” Cook said.
It is unclear if Simpson still receives a football pension that was once estimated at $ 19,000 a month, but even if he did, that money would be “near impossible” to reach an amount to satisfy for the civil judgment, Cook added. Any movie or television residuals, though, “we reach that.”
Simpson’s ability to earn money has been hampered by his incarceration, but he again became part of the national conversation with The People Vs. O.J. Simpson, the FX hit that chronicled his dramatic murder trial of 1995.
What happens after prison is anyone’s guess.
“We are all strangers in O.J. Simpson’s strange land,” Cook said, “because at every turn it gets stranger and stranger, from the white Bronco, the LA trial, to the acquittal, to the wrongful death.”

O.J. Simpson, the man forever associated with the Ford Bronco when he fled police after the slayings of his wife, Nicole, and her friend Ron Goldman, is testifying before a parole board today and could be released as soon as October. (The new Bronco is expected to be released for the 2020 model year. And here’s an item we ran in 2014: The history and the future of the Ford Bronco. Coverage of Simpson’s appearance today appears below.)
CARSON CITY, Nev. – A state parole board in Nevada convened on Thursday morning to consider O.J. Simpson’s bid for freedom after nine years in prison for a botched armed robbery of his own sports memorabilia in a Las Vegas hotel room.
The 70-year-old former football star, known best as the central figure in the so-called Trial of the Century, appeared before the board by live video feed from Lovelock Correctional Center, about 100 miles (161 km) from the parole board’s office in Carson City.
He was joined by supporters including his daughter, sister, and one of his robbery victims.
Simpson told the board what led to the crime, saying he learned his personal mementos were in Las Vegas and “some guys” were trying to “fence my property.”
“As a perfect storm we all ended up in Las Vegas, you know? I was there for a wedding and [a friend] told me that the property was there.”
“I said, ‘Of course I would like to get the property.’ He told me the names of what he thought were the people in the room, and I realized these are friends of mine. You know? Actually guys who helped me move, helped me move and store some of this stuff.”
Simpson said, “When I came into the [hotel] room I noticed spread out everywhere was my personal property.”
“The only thing I saw that was on display that wasn’t mine was some baseballs, and I made it clear to everybody those are not mine. All I want is my property.”
Simpson, 70, whose on-field nickname was “The Juice,” should be an ideal candidate for parole, based on his conduct in prison and other typical factors, according to legal experts. The board’s decision should happen today.
But the four parole board members who will determine his fate may find it hard to avoid memories of the sensational case that captivated the country, when Simpson was charged with killing his wife, Nicole, and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1994.
The same board delivered Simpson a favorable parole ruling in 2013 on some of the robbery-related charges, leaving him with four years to go on his minimum sentence. A similar decision this time would clear the way for Simpson to walk out of prison on Oct. 1.
Despite Simpson’s 1995 acquittal in the murder case in Los Angeles, he was later found civilly liable for the deaths and ordered to pay $ 33.5 million in damages to the victims’ families, a judgment that has gone largely unpaid.
Exactly 13 years after his acquittal, Simpson was found guilty of storming into the Las Vegas hotel room with four others to retrieve at gunpoint items that he claimed were rightfully his from two sports collectibles dealers.
Simpson won the Heisman Trophy, the award for the top college football player, in 1968 while attending the University of Southern California. He played more than a decade in the National Football League, becoming the first player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season.
Following his playing career, Simpson became known for his work as a pitchman in television commercials for companies like Hertz and for roles in movies like the comedy “The Naked Gun.”

On Thursday, O.J. Simpson had his parole hearing after being convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping related to a 2007 incident in Las Vegas. If he’s awarded parole, he’ll be eligible for release as early as October 1, after serving almost 9 years of the sentence.
Before the decision was announced, Simpson was asked questions by the Nevada parole board. In one instance, Simpson was asked about conflicts he’s had in his life.
“I’ve basically spent a conflict-free life,” he said.
Simpson didn’t reference the “trial of the century” in 1994 — in which he was found not guilty — centered around the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman, nor did he reference past allegations of spousal abuse.
During the trial, and most recently with the airing of the Oscar-winning ESPN documentary “O.J.: Made in America,” 911 calls have been released of Nicole Simpson calling numerous times for police to come to their house, saying that O.J. had beat her. In one instance, she told the arriving officer she thought he would “kill me.”
