Skelton says she wanted to make sure that she nailed the scene in which her character Brianna, accidentally pregnant and not-so-accidentally single (it’s a whole thing), labors at her great-aunt’s North Carolina plantation and gives birth to a son. “I’ve never been in a birth apart from my own, obviously, but I don’t remember that, thankfully,” she tells TVLine, laughing. “So I wanted to see what kind of sounds women make. Sometimes in film, it looks like they’re screaming… actually they make like a really low, animalistic sound.” She chuckles again. “It’s quite awful to hear, really.”
The actress recalls that on the day of filming, her online legwork proved useful. “The director and [assistant director] were like, ‘Oh no, I don’t think that’s how you go on it,’” she recalls. “And then they looked it up and they’re like, ‘Oh no, you’re right. You do sit like that.’ I was like, ‘Thanks, guys.’”
And because we know you’re wondering: “You do sort of sit on it like a chair, but you’re propped up, and then all of your weight is in your hands,” Skelton explains. “It was actually quite fun to film. A lot of sweating, a lot of screaming, a very red face.” During a break, a crew member asked if she’d undergone the process in real life, and she replied in the negative. “He says, ‘Wow, it looks like you have. You did very good,’” she says, laughing again. “I was like, ‘Thank you!’ I’m a professional fake-birth-giver now.”
In Diana Gabaldon’s Drums of Autumn, the source material for Season 4, Brianna labors at Fraser’s Ridge, with parents Jamie and Claire attending to the birth of their first grandchild. Some fans of the novels have voiced their distaste for how the Starz series changed the scene; in the finale, Bree is helped by her aunt Jocasta, as well as her handmaid Lizzie and a house slave named Phaedre.
“I think logistically, that was the only way it could be,” Skelton says, pointing out that Bree’s parents were coming home from upstate New York on horseback after locating Roger, the baby’s possible father. (A whole other thing.) In addition, the moment highlights how independent Brianna has become since her trip through the stones. “It’s quite a nice image to have,” she adds with a little pride in her voice, “this young girl, doing this all on her own.”
As those who watched the finale know, Brianna no longer has to go it alone: Her parents have returned to North Carolina, as has Roger. But while the couple’s immediate reunion was a happy one, Skelton cautions that the young lovers’ relationship might yet have some rough patches to smooth over.
“I have a feeling there will be some difficulties, but obviously we don’t know any of that yet,” Skelton says, quickly adding the caveat that she can’t talk about Season 5. “They haven’t really sat down and had any conversations yet. They left on a big fight, and they haven’t even talked that out, and now they’ve got a baby to think of, too… They could put everything that happened aside, or it could complicate things and make things harder.”
She adds: “Hopefully, they’ll be OK.”

Comedy impressionist Danny Posthill made it to the final of Britain’s Got Talent in series nine, and has spoken out during his show this weekend.
In the 2015 semi-finals, Danny impersonated hosts Ant and Dec as part of his act, before adding to his routine about the presenting duo in the final.
He finished 7th out of 12 contestants, but admitted that since Ant’s arrest, he has to be careful when joking about Ant.
Danny told audience including Express.co.uk: “You’ve got to be careful doing jokes about Ant now.
“All this has happened with Ant now, but he’ll bounce back. Won’t he?
“People love Ant and Dec don’t they! The thing is with Ant and Dec, anything they do just turns to gold.”
He added: “Ant and Dec could be managers of the England football team.
“Even if they’d done a s**t job, England would forgive them!”
ITV hasn’t officially confirmed whether Ant and Dec will be back presenting Britain’s Got Talent this year.
However, Ant issued a statement via a spokesperson, which read: “Ant has decided to go back into treatment and step down from his current TV commitments.”
His co-presenter Declan Donnelly will front the last two instalments of Saturday Night Takeaway by himself when it returns next weekend.
Nevertheless, Ant and Dec have already filmed pre-recorded segments for this year’s Britain’s Got Talent.
They were pictured along with the judges at this year’s auditions, which wrapped up in Manchester last month.
It comes as ITV told the Mirror: “It is utter nonsense to suggest that Ant and Dec are set to be replaced on I’m A Celebrity.”
Express.co.uk has contacted Britain’s Got Talent for comment on whether Ant and Dec will be returning to the show this year.
Britain’s Got Talent returns to ITV later this year.
Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were chatting to expert Professor Matthew Walker about the importance of getting a good night’s sleep on This Morning today.
He claimed that the country is in the midst of a “sleep loss epidemic” and it is the “greatest public health challenge” we currently face.
Promoting his new book, Why We Sleep, and discussing how to improve your sleep, Matthew evaluated the presenters’ sleeping patterns.
Phillip admitted that he is a “night owl” and enjoys staying up late.
He explained: “The first part of the week, I go to bed at 10 o’clock and sleep okay and then wake up at half past five.
“But when it gets to Thursday if I’m not working Friday then I’ll stay up really late and get up late.
“So I change to during the course of the week. I’m assuming that’s probably quite bad for you.”
“That’s not great,” Matthew replied. “It’s actually called social jet lag when people go to bed early and wake up early and then at weekends they binge on their sleep and purge during the week.
“It does have deleterious health consequences, higher risk of things like diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
“It’s the equivalent of flying to the middle of Europe and back every weekend. It’s torture for your biology.”
Phillip was left speechless by Matthew’s warning and could be seen holding his head in his hands.
As the sleep expert continued with the segment, the 55-year-old was seen covering his mouth with his hand in shock as he shot a worrying look at the camera.
Following an ad break after the sleep segment, Phillip confessed to Holly: “I’m now going to worry about that. I’m not going to be able to sleep.”
His co-host joked: “Well, if you’re not going to sleep, can you come and babysit my children?”
Meanwhile, today on This Morning, Holly showed off her slender legs in a pair of tight-fitting trousers from French Connection.
She joked that she resembled an avocado in her bright ensemble as she teamed her dark trousers with a lime green knit jumper.
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am.
Keita, 22, agreed a move to Liverpool over the summer but has to wait until July 2018 to make it.
But Lee Price, who has written two books on the Bundesliga, claims Keita is desperate to change the terms of the deal.
That follows Leipzig being dumped out the Champions League while a title tilt hasn’t got off the ground.
“The Naby Keita transfer saga had appeared to resolve itself – the midfielder was due to move to Liverpool in the summer, and that’s that,” Price exclusively told Express Sport.
“But the Guinean himself might have a say in the matter.
“Leipzig’s novelty is wearing off – they’re fifth in the Bundesliga this season, and have been demoted to the Europa League, where they face a tough tie against Napoli.
“For Keita, the challenge has almost gone, and he ideally wants to move to Liverpool now.
“The player doesn’t intend to rock the boat hugely in Leipzig, and is relishing the winter break in Germany, but his camp is expected to push for a move upon his return to training in January.”
Keita was Jurgen Klopp’s No 1 target throughout the close season but he was left frustrated as RB Leipzig said he was going nowhere.
However, Liverpool were so desperate to get their man they entered talks in a deal which would see the player join a year later.
Keita had an exit clause of £48million in his contract but Leipzig were prepared to negotiate to secure an additional premium, taking the fee potentially beyond £50m.
Liverpool had earlier bids of £57m and £66m in an effort to force an immediate sale.
The huge fee is the highest the club have ever paid.
Siberian communists back in 1967 dreamed big, believing that by now we would have landed on Mars and established contacts with alien civilizations, a time capsule opened in Novosibirsk revealed.
The retro-futuristic time capsule was placed in the city’s culture center 50 years ago to be opened in 2017 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution. Inside was a three-page letter outlining a vision of the future as seen by the Soviet people in 1967.
What a bitter disappointment would have awaited the authors, had they lived to this day.
“We believe that you have masterfully outfitted our wonderful blue planet, the Earth, explored the Moon and landed on Mars, that you are continuing the exploration of space started by the people of the first half of the century and that your starships have been long prowling the Galaxy,” the message reads. That sets quite a few daunting tasks for us people of the future – and we’ve missed all the deadlines.
Humans have only been to the moon once, and while Mars may be the matter of a decade if SpaceX is to be believed, establishing business with alien civilizations could prove a chore, given that we haven’t met any so far.
Again, sorry to the people of 1967, who wrote:
“We believe you are negotiating cultural and scientific cooperation with representatives of other, extraterrestrial civilizations,” the letter reads.
Hardly could the authors imagine that their addressees would not only fail to make enough breakthroughs in space exploration, but also witnesses the collapse of communist rule.
“We know, our time is interesting, but yours is more interesting. We have built communism, and you are living under communism,” they wrote optimistically.
At the ceremonial opening of the capsule, a minute of silence was held to honor the letter’s authors, none of which have lived to this day to see their communist dreams shattered.

The row has been rumbling on for years.
Marvel can not make a solo Hulk movie because Universal own the big screen rights and refuse to make any deals.
The actor at the centre of it all relished the opportunity to tell Universal exactly what he thinks of the situation.
Ruffalo had his own personal ‘Hulk smash” moment as he vented his feelings and mocked the rival studio for missing out on a huge opportunity.

Ruffalo told the BBC he was fine with not having a solo movie: “No! Are you kidding me? I get to have the best time.”
But then the green monster started to emerge and he gleefully blasted Universal and revealed how Marvel had helped him create a Hulk movie withing the existing Avengers series.
He said: “So Marvel brought me in before we shot this and they said, ‘If you had a standalone movie what would it be?’
“And I said, ’This and this and this.’ And they said, ‘How about we take that and we stretch it over the next three movies as your character arc?’”
THOR RAGNAROK: DID YOU SPOT THESE THREE HUGE HOLLYWOOD STARS CAMEO IN A HILARIOUS SCENE?
Ruffalo also revealed the hilarity of shooting his fight scenes against Thor, who is much smaller than him on screen.
He said: “I’m doing fight scenes with a little tiny Thor, a kid’s dummy with all Thor’s clothes on and i’m kicking him and punching him and beating him up. To see it done is pretty cool.”
The star also shared the secret to the Hulk roar: “You have to come down from your huevos.”

Appearing on the ITV show, the Labour party member was there to talk about Brexit, but ended up having a war of words with the hosts.
It all started when Morgan, 52, challenged Prescott about how the left-wing party has deviated from their electoral manifesto.
He started his comment explaining that he had “great respect”, something which angered the 79-year-old, who snapped back: “Don’t start the great respect, just disagree with me.”
Clearly not one to back down, Morgan speedily replied: “I didn’t mean great respect, you’re right – let’s get on with it.”
The argument only got more explosive throughout, as Prescott demanded to know how long the outspoken presenter intended to be in his GMB job, adding: “You don’t know how bl**dy long.”
Morgan was visibly shocked, replying: “I do know exactly how long I will be in this job, but it will be shorter if you keep swearing at this time in the morning.”
It didn’t stop Prescott, who made the same curse just moments later before getting involved in a very sticky moment with Morgan about the way they both answer personal questions.
When asked about his inability to provide a straight answer on whether he supports legal union strikes, Prescott became personal.
Morgan insisted: “What’s not helpful is people like you who profess to be a straight talker, simply refusing to give a simple answer.”
However, the Labour stalwart fought back: “When I asked you a straight question about phone tapping, you didn’t give a straight answer… It’s about where you stand.”
Not letting the personal comment get to him, Morgan replied: “Here’s the real world – it’s your inability to answer a straight question.
“It’s very telling and you can get as personal as you like, but it won’t hide that to viewers because you don’t want the headlines.”
Prescott ended by asking if they were “done”, before insisting that it is up to the electorate to decide on the quality of his answers, reminding Morgan that around 13 million supported the Labour manifesto during the last election.
Clearly bewildered by the end of the interview, Morgan told a stunned Reid: “We’ve just interviewed a wild animal, the great beast, the gorilla – Prezza.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
It’s a sound that cleverly belies their central theme: the hypnotising dangers of consumerism and the self-obsessed digital age.
The latter comes to the fore on the title track and the brilliant Creature Comfort – “God, make me famous/ If you can’t, just make it painless”.
The finest track, however, is the six minute-plus We Don’t Deserve Love, a moving, confessional piece played out over eerie electronics that recall Radiohead’s brilliant Kid A.
Lana Del Rey Lust For Life 4/5 (Polydor)
“You can still find me, if you ask nicely/ underneath the pines… Across the county line,” sings Lana Del Rey on 13 Beaches, so languid and elusive a singer and performer that fans at her one-off London gig last week must have blinked in disbelief that she was actually there.
Her superb fourth album picks up where the last three left off, Lana’s default musical style a slow and dreamy shimmer, her sweet/sour vision of California like David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive.
The opening Love is as straightforward as it gets – teen romance seen through a 32-year-old’s eyes before the 32-year-old moves through the same romantic ritual.
The title track builds from a Leader Of The Pack intro into a dreamy call and response, the singer dancing “on the ‘H’ of the Hollywood sign”
Alice Cooper Paranormal 3/5 (earMusic)
Beyond the squalling guitars and sneering vocals on the B-movie horror tracks, Cooper’s first album in six years is a more tantalising beast.
The urgent, bluesy Fallen In Love, witty Holy Water and quite brilliant Blue Oyster Cult-like The Sound Of A hint at a musical maturity that, ironically, the additional live CD, containing older classics such as Only Women Bleed, confirm he once had.
Bright Phoebus – Songs By Lal & Mike Waterson (Domino) 4/5
Although it featured a host of folk-rock superstars including Richard Thompson, Martin Carthy and Maddy Prior, it is the wild, raw tones of singer Lal Waterson (left) that make the newly reissued Bright Phoebus such a haunting masterpiece.
Recorded in 1972, this is English folk music as brutal, beautiful and magical as the countryside itself.
The British star will follow the World War II epic Dunkirk with a more modern account of warfare in My War Gone By, I Miss It So, based on the memoirs of veteran reporter Anthony Loyd.
The film will tackle the horrors of modern warfare and drug abuse.
Hardy said: “My War Gone By is a brutal yet sensitive story which addresses both the nature of addiction and the experience of war.
“I was struck by Anthony’s work and words, experiences, and for me his is an important voice and an important book.”
The actor reamins the favourite to succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond. He is currently starring as a bomber pilot in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. The director recently finally revealed why he always covers Tom Hardy’s face in every movie they make together.
My War Gone By, I Miss It So is based on the 1999 book of the same name. it recounts Loyd’s experiences of the The Bosnian War as the former Yugoslavia continued to break into smaller independent nations.
The international armed conflict raged in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995 and involved troops from many NATO countries.
Loyd is an English journalist and war correspondent from a military family.
His account of the Bosnian War covers his experiences at the war front and personal reflections of his time in the British army. He admitted that his addiction to the adrenaline of covering the war contributed to his own personal battle against substance abuse.
Gavin O’Connor will direct and produce and has referred to the story at the next Apocalypse Now.
O’Connor told Variety: “Anthony’s memoir was love at first page — a portrait of war like I’d never read before.
“An up-close-and-personal account of a heroin junkie reporting from the front lines of Bosnia — the bloodiest conflict Europe has witnessed since the Second World War — who uses the high of war to kick his drug habit.
“It’s a book written with both fists. It’s Anthony’s Apocalypse Now. I feel privileged and honored for the opportunity to bring the book to the movies.”
