After the clip had played, Phillip slammed the couple’s decision to speak out yet again following their interview with Oprah Winfrey.

‘Now who are you?!’ Grandad Martin Kenyon in brilliantly hilarious quip at Piers Morgan https://briefnews.eu/now-who-are-you-grandad-martin-kenyon-in-brilliantly-hilarious-quip-at-piers-morgan/ https://briefnews.eu/now-who-are-you-grandad-martin-kenyon-in-brilliantly-hilarious-quip-at-piers-morgan/#respond Wed, 09 Dec 2020 09:07:55 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/now-who-are-you-grandad-martin-kenyon-in-brilliantly-hilarious-quip-at-piers-morgan/

The London grandad was among the first Britons to receive the coronavirus vaccine after he secured a spot on the first day of the vaccination scheme rollout.

The 91-year-old grandfather-of-two went viral after he was stopped and interviewed about his experience by US broadcaster CNN as he came out of St Guy’s Hospital on Tuesday.

As he spoke of the experience with Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan on Wednesday, Martin Kenyon had the presenter in stitches as he teased him on his popularity.

Mr Kenyon said: “Now, who are you?!”

The unexpected quip had Piers Morgan burst out laughing, with co-host Susanna Reid also chuckling at the exchange.

Those watching at home took to Twitter to comment on the result, with one writing: “Welp, that’s my bit of excitement for the week over #TheChase.”

Another posted: “All deserved winners, well done team! #TheChase,” with a third commenting: “Well done team. Thoroughly deserved #thechase.”

“Very well done team, even if it could’ve been £25K each. £8K is still a very nice amount of money for a day’s work,” a fourth remarked.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.

Dr Hilary warned Kate Garraway as husband battled COVID horror: ‘Call an ambulance now!’ https://briefnews.eu/dr-hilary-warned-kate-garraway-as-husband-battled-covid-horror-call-an-ambulance-now/ https://briefnews.eu/dr-hilary-warned-kate-garraway-as-husband-battled-covid-horror-call-an-ambulance-now/#respond Fri, 05 Jun 2020 09:09:22 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/dr-hilary-warned-kate-garraway-as-husband-battled-covid-horror-call-an-ambulance-now/

Dr Hilary Jones urged Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway to call 999 after a phone consultation with her husband Derek Draper sparked fears over his deteriorating health. Garraway’s husband has been battling a severe case of coronavirus since April and has been in intensive care for the past 10 weeks. Dr Hilary discussed his conversation with the GMB host after Garraway shared a heartbreaking account of her experience during her husband’s illness.

Dr Hilary said: “He had been deteriorating, his symptoms weren’t typical of any means and Kate was worried, so of course she called a colleague at work.

“I’m very very happy to help in those situations, as I have in the past with other people. That’s what I do.

“I spoke to Kate and she was concerned about whether she should call an ambulance.

“I said, ‘Is it possible to speak to Derek?’ I spoke to Derek and I was quite concerned, just the way he was speaking and his breathlessness.”

Dr Hilary said it had taken him just a few seconds to realise Derek’s condition was serious.

He continued: “It was less than 10 seconds. I said to Kate, ‘Look, this is time to call an ambulance. He is very breathless, significantly breathless’.”

Garraway said her husband Derek did not have any of the underlying health condition as revealed his level of infection was “off the scale.”

The GMB host said she was “praying” and “hoping” her husband would pull through after being admitted to a London hospital just after the lockdown was implemented.

After revealing her husband now no longer has COVID-19, Garraway warned the damage which the illness has caused on his body remained unprecedented and admitted she was not sure when and if he would pull through.

The Good Morning Britain presenter also opened up about her fears her own illness would prevent her from being able to take care of hew two children.

Garraway said: “We think of COVID as something live, mercifully, or it takes you and I think at the beginning of this, that’s what it was like.

“Some people got it very mildly, I’ve had it,” the presenter revealed, before adding: “Mercifully mildly.

“Although, there was a couple of days when I thought, ‘My goodness, what happens if I get really sick because we’re in lockdown and it’s just me with the children’.

“I had it mercifully. Other people have it more seriously and have to go to the hospital, but mercifully recover and of course, there are other people’s lives which are taken.”

The presenter also thanked all NHS staff for the “extraordinary” work they have been doing to take care of her husband and all other COVID-19 patients across the UK.

She added: ‘It’s extraordinary how they’re getting on top of this, I can’t say enough about the nurses but it is a war.”

But he was cut off by Ruth: “It’s beautiful Phillip, I’m buying that whatever you’re wearing, I’m having a pint of that!”

Regaining control, Ruth continued: “Now, back to our show!

“We are preparing to have two shy and retiring people join us today, Janet Street Porter is back, no doubt ready for a rant.

Did Hawaii Five-0’s Adam Cross Too Many Lines? ‘He Has More to Lose Now’ https://briefnews.eu/did-hawaii-five-0s-adam-cross-too-many-lines-he-has-more-to-lose-now/ https://briefnews.eu/did-hawaii-five-0s-adam-cross-too-many-lines-he-has-more-to-lose-now/#respond Sat, 07 Dec 2019 05:09:23 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/did-hawaii-five-0s-adam-cross-too-many-lines-he-has-more-to-lose-now/

The following contains spoilers from the Dec. 6 episode of CBS’ Hawaii Five-0.

This Friday on Hawaii Five-0, Adam Noshimuri made some brash decisions that may have forever altered his future — both on the task force, if not beyond.

After Tamiko was kidnapped by Yakuza rivals, Adam defied Masuda — and lied to Five-0, taking a “sick” day — by getting involved in the hunt for those responsible. Along the way, a masked Adam dragged out of a bar someone with intel on the kidnappers, threw him into his car trunk, and delivered him to the Yakuza. Once Tamiko was returned and all the dust cleared, Masuda had been slain (assassinated?), thrusting underling Kenji into the top spot. And among Kenji’s first orders of business was to execute in cold blood that man Adam grabbed — making him indirectly responsible for the senseless death. Adam had barely a second to process the weight of that when Steve called and asked him to come to HQ ASAP — having learned from Duke that Adam’s watch was found at the bar.

Did Adam go too rogue in his well-meaning quest? And will it be at the cost of his job on the task force? TVLine spoke with Ian Anthony Dale about what’s next.

TVLINE | We go to this well about once a season, pitting Adam against his past. What would you say makes this particular storyline about his Yakuza leanings different from any that came before it?
What will make this one different is I feel like he has more to lose now. I mean, there was always the risk of losing [then-wife] Kono if he couldn’t distance himself from the Yakuza. But with the team, he has earned their trust, they have welcomed him into the ohana, and he’s now putting all of that on the line in order to save Tamiko, in order to ensure her continued safety. And I think what really makes this different is that he has always sort of teetered with going back to the dark side, but in this case it’s the furthest he has stepped back into that world, you know? And I’m not sure if he’ll be able to come out this time.

TVLINE | For me, one of the biggest pit-in-the-stomach moments was the final scene, when he’s on the phone and Steve’s like, “No, I want you to come in now.” What can you say about what happens next?
That was a really fun scene to play because Adam is hollowed out at that point. He couldn’t have more incriminating evidence against him, and not only that but he is wracked with guilt. And to have to somehow “put on a face” in order to go and deal with the confrontation with Steve… you just have no idea how that’s going to play out, or if Adam’s going to be able to get himself together in order to deal with that situation. I think the audience is going to be very surprised with the way the following episode starts, and it’ll only sort of engage them more in the intrigue of where this story is going for Adam.

TVLINE | How difficult will this storyline be for those viewers who have welcomed Adam into the Five-0 ohana over the past few years?
You know, I’m not sure…. I feel like part of what endears Adam to the audience is that no matter how many times its appeared like he’s dipping back into his dark past, he ultimately does something to redeem himself and prove that their hopes about me were correct. But they’ve never seen Adam go quite this dark, and that’s going to twist him up a bit. They’re going to always remain hopeful that Adam ultimately is a good guy, but that’s really going to be tested.

TVLINE | Lastly, tell me about the episode (10×15) you’re currently directing.
Well, I’ve got this wonderful episode co-written by Chi McBride and Matt Wheeler where we reintroduce a character we just met in Episode 8 — Lou Grover’s niece, Siobhan. She has always wanted to be a cop just like her uncle, so she is now enrolled in the Honolulu Police Department Academy. There is another cadet played by John Harlan Kim (The Librarians), this wonderful Australian-Korean actor that I can’t wait to work with, and it turns out that he has been planted by the Yakuza to become an informant. All the while, Adam, in order to earn the trust of the Yakuza again, has been given sort of an impossible task, which is to become an informant himself, feeding information to the Yakuza while working for Five-0. It’s a very juicy episode.

‘Comeback season begins now’: Jon Jones cleared for UFC return after doping ruling https://briefnews.eu/comeback-season-begins-now-jon-jones-cleared-for-ufc-return-after-doping-ruling/ https://briefnews.eu/comeback-season-begins-now-jon-jones-cleared-for-ufc-return-after-doping-ruling/#respond Thu, 20 Sep 2018 10:46:25 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/comeback-season-begins-now-jon-jones-cleared-for-ufc-return-after-doping-ruling/

UFC star Jon Jones has been cleared to return to action after being handed a backdated 15-month suspension by USADA for failing a drug test last summer.

Jones, 31, will be eligible to return to the octagon from October 28, having been suspended since testing positive for a banned substance ahead of his bout against Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 in July 2017.

Jones won the fight, but the result was later changed to a no contest and he was stripped of the light-heavyweight title.

He had potentially been facing a ban of up to four years, although the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) said in a statement that an independent arbitrator had found that Jones was “not intentionally cheating.”

“The independent arbitrator found that Jon Jones was not intentionally cheating in this case,” USADA chief executive Travis T. Tygart said in the statement.

“While we thought 18 months was the appropriate sanction given the other circumstances of the case, we respect the arbitrator’s decision and believe that justice was served,” he added.

Jones himself expressed his delight at the verdict, writing on Instagram:

“It’s difficult to express myself at this moment, but I can definitely say my heart is filled with gratitude and appreciation.

“I want to thank all of you who have stood by me during the toughest stretch of my life. It has meant the world to me and always will.

“But now is the time to shift the focus front and centre to the road ahead.

“Greatness is what I’m chasing and the path to reclaiming my throne is now officially open. Comeback season begins now.”

The suspension is Jones’ second, after he was sanctioned for testing positive for a banned substance in 2016.

He is in theory eligible to return as early as  UFC 230 on November 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York, although UFC chief Dana White has reportedly ruled that out, saying that a 2019 comeback is more likely.

Jones has previously told RT of his goal to return to face Cormier and relinquish him of his light-heavyweight and heavyweight titles.

  • J.Crew is redefining its look as it works to win back customers.
  • The namesake brand saw its sales decrease for three consecutive years prior to its most recent fiscal quarter, when comparable sales increased by 1%.
  • The new J.Crew is less preppy and more like its successful sister brand, Madewell. It offers more trendy styles and a wider range of sizes.
  • But when we visited, we found that one big flaw still remained.

J.Crew is ditching its preppy roots and redefining itself in an effort to win back customers.

The once hugely popular preppy brand had been on a downward spiral until its most recent fiscal quarter, when it saw comparable sales increase by 1%. Prior to that, sales had slipped for three consecutive years.

Part of why the brand has consistently struggled is that some customers see it as overpriced, generic, and even “wannabe trendy.” Former J.Crew creative director Jenna Lyons left in early 2017 and was followed by longtime CEO Mickey Drexler.

Now, J.Crew is trying to redefine itself by branching out beyond its iconic preppy style and offering a wider variety of styles and sizes.

“You can’t be one price. You can’t be one aesthetic. You can’t be one fit,” new CEO Jim Brett said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

It’s also looking to its more successful sister brand, Madewell, for inspiration, adding products like sweaters with French slogans and high-waisted denim pieces that are more likely to be found at Madewell.

We visited a J.Crew store in New York City shortly after the rebrand launched. Here’s what we found:

We visited the J.Crew store at Brookfield Place in New York City. The store window read “The New Mix.”

There was also a sign in the front of the store that explained the philosophy behind “The New Crew.” It ended with: “Coming together, doing what you love, wearing what you love.”

There were a ton of new products from the Point Sur brand, including basic sweaters, denim jackets, maxi skirts, and fur vests.

  • President Donald Trump’s longtime lawyer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to eight federal crimes on Tuesday.
  • The investigation into Cohen focused on a $ 130,000 payment the lawyer facilitated to Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet about her allegation of a 2006 affair with Trump.
  • Trump has denied the allegation, and Daniels is suing Cohen and Trump to void the non-disclosure agreement.
  • Shortly after Cohen’s guilty pleas, Daniels and her lawyer Michael Avenatti said they were “vindicated.”
  • Daniel added that and Avenatti “look forward to the apologies from the people who claimed we were wrong.”

Stormy Daniels, the porn star at the center of President Donald Trump’s longtime lawyer Michael Cohen’s criminal investigation, and her lawyer Michael Avenatti said they were “vindicated” by Cohen’s guilty pleas on Tuesday.

Cohen on Tuesday pleaded guilty to eight federal crimes, and said he made illegal campaign and corporate contributions “at the direction of the candidate” and with the “purpose of influencing the election.”
