  • Some suggested that, by default, the awards be given to fellow nominees Kesha and/or Lady Gaga.

Twitter erupted this evening after singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran won two Grammy Awards for his album “Divide” and hit single “Shape of You.” Many were astounded that he was awarded the honors over fellow nominees Kesha, for her emotional single “Praying,” and Lady Gaga, for her song “Million Reasons,” dedicated to her dearly departed aunt, and her album “Joanne.”

Even further, audiences were utterly confused when presenters explained that they would be accepting the award for Sheeran as he was unable to attend the award ceremony.

On such an important night as the Grammys, fans of the singer couldn’t wrap their heads around the fact that Sheeran was a no-show, considering he was nominated in two large categories. Rumors began speculating on Twitter.

Talk show host Ellen Degeneres attempted to clear the air, joking that she asked him to pet sit for the evening.

Many of those who believed fellow nominated artists Kesha and Lady Gaga should have taken home the trophies suggested that, due to Sheeran’s absence, the honors should be bestowed upon them by default.

INSIDER reached out to Sheeran’s management for comment on his absence but did not immediately receive a response.

To most, there is no option. Australia must embrace its tennis youth and, regardless of consequence, hand its two remaining Australian Open men’s singles wildcards to the future.

Unfortunately for Lleyton Hewitt, Jason Stoltenberg and Wally Masur, that stance will lead to collateral, but justifiable, damage.

For reasons best known to himself, Bernard Tomic opted not to contest Tennis Australia’s wildcard play-off.

Had he bothered to travel to Melbourne, train and test form and fitness in a best-of-five-set format, he might have already secured a maindraw berth next month.

But the former junior prodigy and world No 17 effectively couldn’t find the motivation to jump on a flight from the Gold Coast.

In the absence of injury, Tomic seemingly has turned his back on an excellent opportunity to repatriate himself into the Hewitt’s support network.

Given the way Australian tennis operates, his self-imposed Cup exile and continued estrangement means he won’t get a wildcard.

His Davis Cup record alone would, alongside a more conciliatory and committed approach, make the Queenslander worthy of a discretionary invitation.

But not in the present circumstances.

If Hewitt and co take a long-term view, there will be hard luck stories.

This year, Sam Groth – one of the sport’s enduring success stories and a thoroughly deserving recipient of a wildcard – is retiring at the Open.

He’s partnering Hewitt in doubles and, all being well, Sam Stosur in mixed doubles.

As a Davis Cup loyalist and Newcombe medallist, sentiment and service should play a part.

True to form, Groth is not expecting a wildcard.

With Alex De Minaur (playoff winner), Thanasi Kokkinakis and Alex Bolt (playoff finalist) already in the main draw, the next player in would have been Akira Santillan.

Sadly, the Queenslander won’t contest the Open because of a serious back injury.

In rankings order, the next players to be considered are John Patrick Smith, 28, Andrew Whittington, 24, and Groth, 30.

Then comes Omar Jasika, 20, and Max Purcell, 19.

In the current setting, will selectors plumb completely for the future or reward the departing Groth or the industrious Smith?

The only certainty is that Tomic, fifth-highest behind Nick Kyrgios, is on again on the outer.

And, as always, there is no simple solution in a complex situation.

Nintendo has good news for 3DS owners looking for some new games.

The Nintendo 3DS played second fiddle to the Nintendo Switch during E3, as new game announcements were saved for the Nintendo Treehouse.

However, Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime said that the console continues to play an important part in the company’s plans.

“The way we continue to make Nintendo 3DS vibrant as a platform is first we continue to innovate from form factor standpoint,” he told IGN.

“So the New 2DS XL is just the latest for us in having form factor innovation.

“We know colours are a key differentiator, consumers love the variety of different colours. And also the larger screen and the different form factor in the 2DS family, we think is a going to drive and continue to drive the 3DS platform.”

As for games, fans can expect new releases well into 2018.

“We’re going to continue to bring new content,” he continued. “And that’s what’s going to keep this device vibrant and keep it going well into 2018 and beyond.”

Ultimately, the company wants as many games on as many consoles as possible.

“In the end, what we want is we want the consumer to call it their device, right?

“Their preferred gaming device that they can play fantastic Zelda, Mario, third-party content, all of their favourite franchises brought to life on the platform. That’s what we want. And we’re greedy and we want Nintendo 3DS right alongside it.”

Speaking of the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo recently announced plans to remake Metroid 2: Return of Samus for the console.

Completely rebuilt from the ground-up, the Metroid 3DS remake has even been given a September 15 release date.

“Metroid: Samus Returns is a modern reimagining of the 1992 Game Boy adventure Metroid II: Return of Samus,” reads a Nintendo blog post.

“Intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran’s arsenal has been enhanced with new moves and abilities such as the powerful Melee Counter, 360-degree Free Aim Mode, and mysterious Aeion Abilities, and this action-packed, side-scrolling shooter has been completely remade with engaging and immersive 3D visuals and a rich, atmospheric colour palette.”

However, some were left incredibly “disappointed” after tuning in to find the Jamaican hitmaker was nowhere to be seen and that the teasers were actually referring to Fern Britton’s daughter Grace Jones.

Fans had taken to Twitter beforehand to announce that the 68-year-old singer was taking part, before finding out it was not the case.

The former This Morning host, 59, was playing with her eldest daughter from her former relationship with TV executive Clive Jones.

“PSA! PSA! PSA! Grace Jones is on Pointless Celebs in 10 mins,”(sic) one excited person tweeted.

Another wrote: “Fern Britton and GRACE JONES are a team on Pointless at 630 along with 2 of B Witched and 4 other flops nobody care about.”(sic)

But, all soon became clear: “I got excited when I saw Grace Jones in today’s description of #PointlessCelebrities. Disappointed to find Fern Britton’s daughter instead.”

“#PointlessCelebrities; Grace Jones is actually the daughter of Fern Britton and not the 7ft crazy movie star? Disappoint,” a fourth wrote.

Two others added: “Fern Britton and Grace Jones are a team on a families ep of Pointless – leaving some people a little confused,”(sic) and: “The f***ing NERVE of Fern Britton’s daughter being called Grace Jones… I’m suing for false advertising.”

Meanwhile, the controversial instalment also saw B*Witched star Edele Lynch threaten to call it quits after she gave the wrong answer.

It was left to host Rylan Clark to explain to the audience what had happened, saying: “We were supposed to have Calum Best on, but we genuinely don’t know where he is. This ain’t even a gag. This really ain’t.”

The presenter cheekily jibed: “Maybe his new girlfriend kept him up all night?

“So, I had a little thought and thought, ‘Who could I put in Calum Best’s place tonight?’ It’s got to be someone quite close to him. So, I love her and I think she deserves this so please be upstanding for our very own Barbara,” he continued. 

CBBBOTS fan, Barbara, along with her blow-up Calum Best doll, was on hand to take the recent evictee’s place on the panel alongside Luke Marsden and Vicky Pattison, to much joy from viewers of the show.

“About time Barbara was on the panel, QUEEN #CBBBOTS,” tweeted one fan.

Another praised the regular: “Barbara is more of a gentleman than Calum… Thanks for turning up Barb… #cbbbots”.

Fans were also quick to jump to Twitter to air their views on Calum’s no-show. 

One fan was particularly upset about not seeing the 36-year-old, tweeting: “Omg why has Calum not shown up!? Gutted!! #CBBBOTS.”

Another wrote: “Caught a little bit of #CBBBOTS whilst going through channels. That inflatable Calum Best has more character than the real thing. #CBB.”

The show aired directly after Calum’s appearance on In Therapy where he opened up about his notorious past and his relationship with his late father, George. 

Speaking on the show, he admitted that he “built a horrible reputation” for himself but has since changed and now “likes being a gentleman”.
