The space agency said it is now aiming for Tuesday, September 27, for its next launch attempt. If that fails, it will try to send the rocket skyward on Sunday, October 2.
Last week, NASA said it was targeting Friday, September 23 for a launch attempt, but that date has now been scrapped.
Specifically, the September 27 launch attempt involves a 70-minute launch window that opens at 11:37 a.m. ET, with the Orion capsule arriving back on Earth about six weeks later on November 5. If that launch is unable to proceed, NASA will aim instead for October 2, with a 109-minute launch window opening at 2:52 p.m. ET and the spacecraft returning to Earth on November 11.
Prior to the attempted September 27 launch, NASA said it needs to perform a fueling test, an exercise it plans to conduct no earlier than Wednesday, September 21.
“The updated dates represent careful consideration of multiple logistical topics,” the agency said in a release on Monday, adding that the new timetable “also allow managers to ensure teams have enough rest and to replenish supplies of cryogenic propellants.”
NASA called off the August 29 launch attempt with just 40 minutes on the countdown clock after engineers identified an issue with one of the engines on the rocket’s core stage.
Five days later, it halted final preparations for another launch after a fuel leak came to the engineers’ attention.
The 97-meter-tall rocket and Orion spacecraft remain in place on the launchpad at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The uncrewed Artemis I mission will send the Orion on a fly-by of the moon, with the spacecraft returning to Earth six weeks later. If the test mission is a success, NASA will send astronauts on the same flight path for the Artemis II mission. Then, possibly in 2025, Artemis III will endeavor to put the first woman and first person of color on the lunar surface in the first crewed moon landing in five decades.
NASA wants to use the early Artemis missions to build a moon base for long-duration crewed missions, using what it learns for the first astronaut mission to Mars, possibly in the late 2030s.
]]>The company says the event will include "the latest breakthroughs in gaming, creating and graphics technology." NVIDIA is expected to reveal its RTX 40-series graphics cards during the broadcast — an image the company shared to promote the event includes the GeForce RTX Logo. NVIDIA previously said it would release its first Ampere Next-based GPUs this year. Those will supplant graphics cards with the current Ampere architecture.
It remains to be seen just how well the RTX 40-series cards will perform. In the meantime, the 30-series GPUs are finally readily available after the cryptocurrency market cratered.

Today is a day of leaks, federal investigations and collaboration break-ups. Samsung’s incoming Galaxy S10 will pack next-gen WiFi, WhatsApp adds TouchID and FaceID for security and Facebook doesn’t just have a problem with fake political news…
FBI’s reported Huawei sting operation happened at a burger joint
The startup behind a super-hard smartphone glass made partially of synthetic diamonds took part in an FBI sting on Huawei, during CES last month, while a Bloomberg Businessweek reporter watched from a nearby gelato stand. The embattled Chinese company had ordered samples of the “Miraj Diamond Glass” from US startup Akhan Semiconductor in 2017, only to return them badly damaged. Suspecting Huawei of intellectual property theft, Akhan’s founder Adam Khan reportedly contacted the FBI, which drafted him to take part in its Huawei investigations.
Facebook at 15: The long road to social media dominance
Facebook’s come a long way since it launched 15 years ago today, on February 4th, 2004. The service has gone from a “directory of information for college students” to a social media giant with more than 2.32 billion users every month. We broke down the 15 biggest stories since its debut.
Samsung’s Galaxy S10 phones will support next-generation WiFi
Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S10 phones are set to support next-generation WiFi amid a broader expansion of WiFi 6 this year. Three versions of the phone, including an S10+ and cheaper S10E, should be compatible with the standard, according to FCC filings spotted by Droid Life.
The phones will be some of the first to offer WiFi 6, which aims to offer sturdier, faster internet (particularly if you have a ton of connected devices in your home), while also straining your new smartphone battery less.
Don’t trust all of those health articles you see in your Facebook feed
Facebook’s battle with fake news stories goes beyond political news. According to fact-checking site Health Feedback, seven of the ten most shared health stories on Facebook in 2018 contained false or misleading information. The top 100 stories fared slightly better, but stories with misinformation were shared 12.3 million times. Well-sourced and accurate stories were shared 11 million times. Facebook has launched several initiatives with the goal to weed out fake news, though most are focused on political stories.
Samsung ends its sketchy Supreme collaboration
It’s not a huge shock. The initial reaction to the collaboration was immediate skepticism and controversy. Supreme NYC (the one you actually want) doesn’t have the authorization to sell and market in China. And that’s where Supreme Italia snuck in. The “legal fake” in Italy manages to exist through a bunch of intellectual property law loopholes, and has license to sell its unofficial wares in China. For now, however, it won’t include any Samsung products.

Nintendo has suggested that the Switch could be its final home console.
In an interview with Nikkei (via Nintendo Everything), Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said that “we aren’t really fixated on our consoles”.
“At the moment we’re offering the uniquely developed Nintendo Switch and its software – and that’s what we’re basing how we deliver the ‘Nintendo experience’ on,” he said.
“That being said, technology changes. We’ll continue to think flexibly about how to deliver that experience as time goes on.
“In the long-term, perhaps our focus as a business could shift away from home consoles – flexibility is just as important as ingenuity.”
While an immediate move away from console development seems unlikely, Furukawa suggests that Nintendo will increase its mobile gaming presence.
“I’d like to increase the (amount of) games on smartphones that have a continuous stream of revenue,” he continues.
“We’re also dabbling in theme parks and movies – different ways to have our characters be a part of everyday life. I’m anticipating a strong synergy like that.”
Nintendo’s foray into mobile gaming began with Miitomo, followed by Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes and Animal Crossing Pocket Life.
The games have generally been considered a success, reportedly pocketing Nintendo $ 348 million in revenue in 2018.
Fire Emblem Heroes is the company’s most successful game so far, although Mario Kart Tour is expected to launch in 2019.
The Fire Emblem mobile spinoff is said to have generated around $ 230 million in revenue throughout 2018.
This takes its total earnings to $ 487 million, which is a truly remarkable figure.
Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and Shinji Araki (Appleseed) are set to serve as directors on the project using next-generation animation, with Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell) and SOLA DIGITAL ARTS (Netflix’s upcoming Ultraman anime) serving as the production studios.
Previous adaptations of Ghost in the Shell include a 1995 anime cyberpunk film, the 2004 anime TV series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and a live-action 2017 movie that controversially starred the not-Japanese Scarlett Johansson as Motoko.

EA has given gamers a big clue about what to expect from the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.
When the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett release dates finally roll around, fans could be looking at a new way to enjoy PlayStation and Xbox games.
Speaking to investors, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said that while it was too early to talk about the consoles launching, EA looks forward to embracing cloud technology.
“There are a few articles out there; a few rumours; and a little hearsay as to what [the new consoles are] and when they’re coming and what they might be,” he said (via Gamingbolt).
“I don’t think we’re in a position today to have a conversation about that.
“But just know that we’ve worked with Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo for many, many years and we look forward to working with them for many, many years more, even if we all collectively seek to move–either some portion of or all of our experiences – to the cloud.”
In the run up to the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett release dates, prominent video game developers have revealed what they want to see from the next-gen.
Wishlists include more physics-based events, faster processors and better connectivity between different platforms.
In a recent chat with Express Online, Shadow of the Tomb Raider narrative director Jason Dozois and lead game designer Heath Smith revealed what they want from the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.
And the general consensus is for anything that would make Tomb Raider games look even better than they already do.
“More memory, more rendering, being able to see a further distance,” Dozois revealed. “Seeing vistas and thinking, ‘I can actually go there’, and it’s all connected.”
WWE 2K19 executive producer Mark Little also had a surprise request for Sony and Microsoft regarding the next-gen.
Little said that he wants the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett to launch with better media.
“Literally, having blu-rays as our media is challenging, because the advent of 4K gaming means everything is getting better and bigger and bigger, and we try to add more content every year,” he said.
“One of the challenges we have every year is how do we try to fit everything on to a blu-ray, and then how do you load it fast enough, because you’re literally talking 50GBs of data.
“It seems like a funny problem to have, but it is one of those challenges we face, and we talk to the hardware guys about it and they’re like, ‘yeah, that’s hard’.”

Dubai is launching an enormous “fully-immersive” shopping mall in the emirates that will see visitors benefiting from smart fitting rooms, AI recommendations as well as the Middle East’s largest Chinatown.
Dubai Square, designed by Dubai Holding and Emaar Properties, will be in the heart of Dubai Creek Harbour, just 10 minutes from the airport.
The “retail metropolis” is designed “for the new era of customers, digital, connected and tech-savvy, and setting a benchmark for retail experiences in the 21st century.”
With over 8.07 million sq ft of gross floor retail space, Dubai Square will be equivalent to the size of 100 football pitches.
Inspiration has been taken from London’s Oxford Street, Los Angeles’s Beverly Hills, Paris’s Champs-Élysées, Tokyo’s Ginza, Piazza della Republica in Florence and Madrid’s Plaza Mayor, to name a few.
Technology is central to the mall. There will be custom-designed mobile apps, quick checkout solutions, search and barcode scanning applications, radio-frequency identification technology, mobile payments and click-and-collect services.
It’s intended to be a “playground for tech brands around the world,” filled with 3D printing, drones and artificial intelligence.
Shopping for fashion will be “unique and immersive” thanks to special VIP dressing rooms, smart fitting rooms with interactive mirrors, curated private fashion collections, personalised AI recommendations, 3D printed clothing and accessories, fashion museums and more.
The first floor will be entirely dedicated to luxury retail, dining and leisure outlets.
The shopping centre will also offer a waterpark, a Cineplex, sports arena and plenty of entertainment.
Dubai Square will host concerts and theatre shows, celebrity performances, acrobatics shows, museum-quality exhibitions and more.
If that wasn’t enough visitors can “lose themselves in a choice of global gastronomy,” from fusion and vegan to Peruvian and French-Vietnamese.
Specially designed apps for ordering food and beverage on the premises will minimise queuing and long wait-times, while others are set to provide personalised dining recommendations and 3D-printed food delicacies.
There will also be live cooking stations, street vendors, festive pop-up markets, grab-and-go F&B offerings and an organic market.
Furthermore, Dubai Square will feature an Art District – from permanent exhibitions to ephemeral performance art, from large-scale concerts to one-man shows.
The largest Chinatown in the Middle East will also be found in the mall. Over 200,000 Chinese nationals live in the United Arab Emirates while thousands of tourists from China visit every year.
Dubai hopes to attract 20 million tourists by 2020 and Emaar say the new mall will play a central role in driving retail sales in Dubai, expected to be over AED 160 billion (£34billion) by 2021.
His Excellency Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman, Emaar Properties, said: “Dubai Square disrupts the traditional mall and retail experience…With Dubai Square, we are delivering a new destination experience that will bring incredible value to our retail partners.
“Dubai Square is where technology meets the human touch, and retail meets next-generation entertainment. With its omnichannel offering, it not only drives in-store retail but also the online engagement of brands with customers.
“With its location in Dubai Creek Harbour, and by serving as the closest mega-retail district to millions of passengers passing through the Dubai International Airport, it meets the real need for a new generation lifestyle destination, especially given Dubai’s growth in population and tourist arrivals.”
Last month, the UAE announced free visas for tourists under 18 years of age during the summer.
The new missile, whose name means ‘Conqueror,’ boasts a range of between 300 and 500 kilometers. Brigadier General Amir Hatami, Iran’s defense minister, described it as agile, able to evade enemy radars, and strike with “pinpoint accuracy,”Tasnim news agency reported.
“As I had promised the Iranian nation, I will spare no effort to boost the country’s missile capabilities and we will certainly increase our missile power every day,” Hatami said at a ceremony in Tehran on Monday.
US officials told Reuters on Friday that Iran had tested a short-range anti-ship missile during naval drills in the Strait of Hormuz.
The announcement comes shortly after Washington reimposed sanctions against Iran, suspended under the 2015 nuclear deal, also known as JCPOA, preventing Tehran from using the US dollar and restricting imports of cars, metals and minerals.
President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the deal in May, and said he would restore the sanctions regime and target Iran with even harsher measures until Tehran ceased “malign activity” in the region. The US demands Iran cease development of ballistic missiles and end support for the government in Syria, the Lebanese-based Hezbollah movement and the Houthi government currently fighting the US-backed, Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.
EU leaders sought to save the nuclear deal by proposing to expand it to cover Tehran’s ballistic missile ambitions. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said in June that it was “a dream that will never come true.”
Even before the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal, Washington sanctioned Iranian military and civilian structures involved in the missile program, claiming it was a violation of UN resolutions.
Hatami, however, said that Iran’s missile program was non-negotiable and that the Islamic Republic will never allow outsiders to meddle in its internal affairs. He also praised the Defense Ministry’s Aerospace Organization for being able to swiftly turn ideas into products, pointing out that the Fateh missile was designed entirely by Iranian experts.
Commander of Iran’s ground forces, Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari, said on Monday that the country has achieved self-sufficiency in all areas of the military industry and was ready to share its defense capabilities with “friendly and brotherly countries.”
Iran is reportedly in possession of more than 1,000 short- and medium-range ballistic missiles. The Shahab-3 missiles are said to have a range of 2,000 kilometers, which gives them the ability to hit southern Europe and Israel.

The T-14 Armata tank, a technological marvel of Russian military industry, is anything but affordable for the army, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov told reporters on Monday. He admitted the Russian military will not be able to purchase the tanks en masse due to their staggering cost.
“Why flood our military with Armatas, the T-72s are in great demand on the markets,” Borisov said. T-72 tank, which is in use with dozens of countries since 1970’s, “leaves far behind” the US-built M1 Abrams, France’s Leclerc and German Leopard “in terms of price, efficiency and quality.”
Borisov, who previously was in charge of procurement in Russia’s Defense Ministry, explained that modernization of ageing inventory proved to be more cost-efficient. “Having a military budget ten times smaller than that of NATO, we are achieving our objectives due to such efficient solutions,” he explained.
The T-14 Armata tank has been first revealed to public back in 2015 at a rehearsal for the traditional Victory Day parade in Moscow, appearing on the streets with its turret concealed by a camouflage net. The official presentation was made on May 9 of the same year during the Victory Day parade itself.
Though not much is known about technical features of the next-generation tank, open sources suggest the T-14 stands out due to its unmanned turret and exceptional firepower. Unlike modern-era tanks of classic layout, the Armata has an internal crew compartment which increases survivability in case of direct hit.
Developers said the tank features the Afghanit active protection system which includes radar to detect, track, and intercept incoming anti-tank munitions, such as shells or rocket. The T-14 is also said to have some robotic features, allowing to turn it into an unmanned platform in the future.
In August last year, the Defense Ministry revealed plans to procure more cutting-edge weapons systems, including Armata. The platform, which involves not only the T-14 tank, but also its sister vehicle, the T-15 heavy personnel carrier, will be a “trump card” for the military, Borsov said at the time.
“We can play it anytime we want, boost the series production when needed and stay ahead of our colleagues, so to speak,” he claimed. The current plan is to have 100 T-14s in the Russian armed forces by 2020, as well as sizeable batches of upgraded T-90M tanks and BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles.
