James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick (played by Omari Hardwick) may have been the focal point of Power for six seasons on Starz before his death but it doesn’t mean the story will not live on. Showrunner Courtney Kemp confirmed after the divisive Power finale that the universe will continue in the form of four spin-off shows with several familiar faces returning.

Power Book II: Ghost will centre around Ghost’s son and his murderer Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr) as he deals with the guilt of killing his own father.

Book III: Raising Kanan will act as a sequel, giving fans an insight into the younger years of terrifying drug dealer Kanan (50 Cent).

Book IV: Influence focuses on disgraced politician Rashad Tate (Larenz Tate) while the final series, Book V: Force, sees Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) continue life without his best friend.

While the lead characters for each series have been confirmed, speculation surrounding secondary faces has been rife, with fans wondering if they’ll be able to see their favourite Power characters back on screens.

Luckily, showrunner Courtney Kemp has added come comfort for fans as she hinted at returns for a number of characters on Instagram in recent weeks.

Kemp has hinted there could be a surprise return for LaKeisha (La La Anthony), admitting she’d “love” to work with the actor again.

Ramona (Cynthia Addai Robinson) could also be back as Kemp confessed she “has plans for her.”

And now it looks like a season six debutant could also be returning in the spin-offs after Courtney addressed rumours surrounding Tate’s family.

Speaking on an Instagram live Q&A last month, one fan wanted to know if Kamaal Tate (Lahmard J Tate) would be back.

He only appeared in one episode of Power season six but proved to be a hugely popular character thanks to his no-nonsense attitude towards his brother.

Courtney read aloud on Instagram: “Will Tate’s brother play a bigger role in Power?

“I hope so, I hope so, I would like that very much.”

On the same day that NBC’s Saturday Night Live cast its first-ever Asian cast member, a video has surfaced in which Shane Gillis, another of Season 45’s new hires, uses racist slurs while critiquing Chinatown and its culture.

In a clip (embedded below) from “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast”, dated September 2018 and brought to light on Twitter by freelance writer Seth Simons, Gillis refers to “the f–king ch-nks” while riffing with cohost Matt McCusker on Chinatown’s architecture and restaurants. Gillis and McCusker also use racist pronunciations such as “dericious” and “nooders,” and go on about the “f–king hassle” of communicating their menu orders to Chinese waiters.

Gillis, who was recently recognized as a New Face at the 2019 Just for Laughs Festival, on Thursday morning was announced as one of SNL‘s three new cast members, along with the aforementioned Bowen Yang (who is Chinese) and Chloe Fineman.

NBC has not yet responded to TVLine’s request for comment on Gillis’ comments from 11 months ago, in a YouTube podcast video which has since been deleted.

Emmerdale spoilers: Rhona Goskirk for shock romance with newcomer Nate Robinson?  https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-rhona-goskirk-for-shock-romance-with-newcomer-nate-robinson/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-rhona-goskirk-for-shock-romance-with-newcomer-nate-robinson/#respond Thu, 09 May 2019 15:33:02 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-rhona-goskirk-for-shock-romance-with-newcomer-nate-robinson/

Emmerdale viewers saw Nate Robinson (played by Jurell Carter) arrive in the village last week and take up the farmhand position at Butler’s farm.

He was first seen in the soap a couple of weeks ago when he kissed Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) in the club during the Big Night Out episode.

More recently, scenes saw him involved in an awkward run in in the Woolpack with Rhona, where he told Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan) about their rendezvous on the dance floor.

Nevertheless, it seems Nate is going to be sticking around for a while and the actor who plays him has spoken out about how his appearance is going to impact the other villagers.

During a conversation with The Mirror, he revealed whether or not a future romance with the vet was on the cards.

He said: “No, because I think for me, Nate is a very loyal character. I think if he knew she [Rhona] was already taken for, he wouldn’t have gone there.

“So I think knowing that she’s in a relationship calls if off straight away. I don’t think he would pursue it, no.”

As for whether or not he will be involved with anyone, Jurell teased his character being linked with an alternative older woman.

“There’s a few women, he definitely does like the ladies,” the actor explained.

“For me, he likes the older ladies but he likes the ones around his aged as well, so I don’t think he’s just for older women. So everyone!”

Whether or not Rhona and Pete can move past her brief infidelity, viewers will have to tune in to tonight’s episode to see the next development.

Meanwhile, there is the suggestion that Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) could go head to head with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).

It comes after Will arrived in the Dales last month with the hope of tormenting Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton).

But with daughter Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) working with him, there is the chance her conscience will get the better of her and she will reveal what has been going on to the vicar.

Therefore, Harriet could confide in ex-Cain and he could make it his duty to make Will pay for what he’s put her through.

Elsewhere in the village, Victoria Sugden (Isobel Hodgins) is still struggling to come to terms with the sexual assault she experienced.

Last night, in extremely difficult scenes, Victoria’s flashback aired and viewers saw Lee (Kris Mochrie) attack and rape her.

Following the traumatic ordeal, she has been hiding away in her house, that is until Moira Barton (Natalie J. Robb) bursts in.

Official soap spoilers have revealed how the farm owner will get Victoria to open up to her, but will she be able to convince her to go to the police?

If you or anyone you know has been affected by Victoria’s storyline, please contact rape crisis on 0808 802 9999 or visit the website here.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.

  • Trump-backed Republican Troy Balderson held a narrow lead over Democratic insurgent Danny O’Connor in Ohio’s 12th District special election on Tuesday night, leading the race by nearly 1,800 ballots.
  • A victory for Balderson was not unexpected in the deep-red district where Donald Trump won by 11 points in the 2016 presidential election, but the narrow margin is seen as a positive sign for Democrats who are working to reclaim a majority in one or both houses of Congress in November.
  • In the meantime, Balderson is expected to take the House seat abandoned by Republican Rep. Pat Tiberi, who announced his resignation in October, midway through his term.
  • Balderson and O’Connor will face each other again in the general election, November 6.

Trump-backed Republican Sen. Troy Balderson held a narrow lead over his Democratic challenger, Danny O’Connor in Tuesday night’s special election in Ohio’s 12th congressional district. With 100% of precincts reporting, Balderson led the race by nearly 1,800 ballots, in a deep-red district that Donald Trump won by 11 points in the 2016 presidential election.

Balderson is expected to take the House seat abandoned by Republican Rep. Pat Tiberi, who announced his resignation in October, midway through his term.

‘Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’ gains Sagat and newcomer G https://briefnews.eu/street-fighter-v-arcade-edition-gains-sagat-and-newcomer-g/ https://briefnews.eu/street-fighter-v-arcade-edition-gains-sagat-and-newcomer-g/#respond Mon, 06 Aug 2018 13:55:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/street-fighter-v-arcade-edition-gains-sagat-and-newcomer-g/

The roster for Street Fighter V‘s Arcade Edition will today gain two new fighters. An announcement on PlayStation Blog confirmed that both series icon Sagat and mysterious newcomer G — who were first revealed for Street Fighter V‘s third season during the 2017 Capcom Cup — are joining the fray.

G, the self-described ‘President of the World’, intimidates rivals by increasing his ‘Presidentiality’ levels. Once at level 3, G can unlock an explosive selection of special moves which include quick, lunging punches (G Smash Under) and molten projectiles (G Burst). His V-Skill — G Barrier — is a powerful force field that can catapult anyone unfortunate enough to be standing in his way into the air.

Sagat, who sheds his former boss role, offers a less ostentatious lineup of moves but doesn’t dare ignore that classic muay thai luster. Crouching opponents will have difficulty evading Sagat’s Grand Tiger Shot, while Tiger Knee Crush lets Sagat lunge towards competitors at lightning speeds. Fans expecting authenticity with Sagat’s V-Skill won’t be disappointed, either, as the troubled king still grips his battle scar to access Angry Charge. A reimagined version of Sagat’s Street Fighter II stage complete with the reclining Buddha is also available now for maximum nostalgia value.

Although G and Sagat are part of the Season 3 Character Pass — which is normally available for $ 29.99 — players can also purchase the duo individually for $ 5.99, or hand over 100,000 Fight Money.

Street Fighter V‘s fighting roster has enjoyed considerable expansion since the game launched in 2016. Each new season has brought on six additional characters, including Final Fight‘s burly bruiser Abigail, who debuted at last year’s EVO championship.

Coronation Street spoilers: Bethany Platt twist revealed with newcomer Kayla – who is she? https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-bethany-platt-twist-revealed-with-newcomer-kayla-who-is-she/ https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-bethany-platt-twist-revealed-with-newcomer-kayla-who-is-she/#respond Sun, 06 May 2018 16:43:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-bethany-platt-twist-revealed-with-newcomer-kayla-who-is-she/

Bethany (played by Lucy Fallon) found herself in a harrowing grooming storyline last year on Coronation Street.

The schoolgirl fell head-over-heels for Nathan (played by Chris Harper), but he was soon revealed to have sinister intentions.

Nathan was revealed to be the leader of a sex ring which abused young girls, something which has left Bethany scarred for life.

Although she thought her problems were over as some of the culprits were in prison, it seems Coronation Street will revisit the plot in the coming weeks.

Bethany’s on-off boyfriend, Craig Tinker (Colson Smith), appears to have moved on after their last break-up with new kid on the block, Kaya Westbrook (Mollie Winnard).

Craig picked up her number after he went on a lunch date with Bethany, much to the latter’s distaste.

And it seems Kayla is hiding a secret which will come out to haunt the schoolgirl.

The Daily Star revealed earlier today how she is actually the daughter of PC Neil Clifton (Ben Cartwright).

The dodgy policeman was a key player in Bethany’s growing and it seems Kayla’s arrival in her life will just push her back further with her progress.

A source told the paper: “Bethany struggles to adjust to having one of Neil’s family members so close to her.

“Viewers will have to wait and see why Kayla is in Weatherfield.

“She keeps her identity secret at first.

“So it’s possible she is secretly plotting revenge on Bethany for having her dad arrested and banged up or she could be keen to try to make amends for her father’s terrible crimes.”

The publication reports how Bethany finds herself experiencing harrowing flashbacks of her time with Neil.

She begins to wonder how she could ever move on with her life when she keeps having reminders of her past.

Will Bethany ever be able to move on from her ordeal?

It is similarly bad news for her uncle David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) who is struggling to come to terms with his sexual assault.

Following his rape, the hairdresser has kept quiet on his attack.

However, tomorrow could mark a new start in his recovery as he finally confides in Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) about his ordeal.

Coronation Street continues tomorrow on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.

Newcomer Euroskeptic, anti-migrant party jumps to 2nd spot in Dutch polls https://briefnews.eu/newcomer-euroskeptic-anti-migrant-party-jumps-to-2nd-spot-in-dutch-polls/ https://briefnews.eu/newcomer-euroskeptic-anti-migrant-party-jumps-to-2nd-spot-in-dutch-polls/#respond Tue, 20 Feb 2018 15:44:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/newcomer-euroskeptic-anti-migrant-party-jumps-to-2nd-spot-in-dutch-polls/ The support for the Forum for Democracy (FVD) has increased more than 8 percent since last year’s election in the Netherlands, with the new party that wants an EU membership referendum now sharing second spot in the polls.

The FVD was founded in 2016 and received just 1.8 percent or two parliament seats in the general election last March. However, its popularity has been on the rise since then, according to a fresh survey by Dutch pollster, Peil.nl.

If the election had been held on February 18, the Euroskeptics would’ve snatched 10 percent of the vote or 15 parliamentary seats, sharing second spot with the Socialist Party (SP), the research revealed. It’s also the first time that the FVD surpassed the country’s more distinguished right-wing party, the Freedom Party (PVV), of Geert Wilders, in the polls. The PVV came second in the 2017 election on 13.1 percent, but its ratings have now dropped to 9 percent.

However, the Dutch political playing field remains quite even, with eight parties currently polling on 8 percent or more. The ruling People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is ahead of the rest on 18 percent or 27 seats.

The Forum for Democracy is pushing for a referendum on the Netherlands membership in the European Union. It opposes mass immigration into the country, considering a ban on face veils and planning to introduce the so-called ‘Dutch Values Protection Act’.

The party’s leader – jurist, journalist and historian, Thierry Baudet – says he stands for direct democracy and proposes large tax cuts. Baudet was one of the initiators of the 2016 referendum on the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement, in which 61 percent of the Dutch voters said ‘no’ to the deal.

The FVD’s rise matches the trend, which saw a growing support for right-wing parties across Europe following the migrant crisis of 2015. But, with the next general election scheduled for 2021 in the Netherlands, it remains to be seen if Baudet and his supporters will be able to maintain or strengthen their position. The polls show that majority of the Dutch population supports the country’s EU membership, while the rapid rise and fall of different political parties is nothing out of the ordinary for the country.

Warriors newcomer Nick Young learned a quick, harsh lesson about having shooting contests with Stephen Curry https://briefnews.eu/warriors-newcomer-nick-young-learned-a-quick-harsh-lesson-about-having-shooting-contests-with-stephen-curry/ https://briefnews.eu/warriors-newcomer-nick-young-learned-a-quick-harsh-lesson-about-having-shooting-contests-with-stephen-curry/#respond Fri, 01 Dec 2017 23:06:01 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/warriors-newcomer-nick-young-learned-a-quick-harsh-lesson-about-having-shooting-contests-with-stephen-curry/ Steph Curry

  • Golden State Warriors guard Nick Young challenged Stephen Curry to a halfcourt shooting contest despite warnings not to.
  • Curry reportedly made the first shot and won the bet.
  • Young said he’s learned his lesson about betting with Curry.

Stephen Curry is widely known for having unlimited range on the basketball court, but Golden State Warriors guard Nick Young was apparently up to the task of challenging him anyway.

According to The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson, Young, a career 37.6% three-point shooter, decided to challenge Curry to a halfcourt shooting contest early on in his Warriors career, despite Draymond Green warning him not to.

Young told Thompson it didn’t go well.

“The first one,” Young said. “He stepped right up and — the first one. I learned right then. Don’t bet that dude.”

It’s unclear how much money was at stake, but given Curry’s range, it stands to reason that he’s made a lot of money off of shooting contests over the course of his career.

Of course, Young should have been privy to this. Not only does he see Curry up-close in practice, Curry’s warmup routine became a national sensation two years ago. He regularly drains halfcourt shots to finish his pregame workouts.

I'm A Celebrity 2017: Fans turn on newcomer Iain Lee over Stanley Johnson clash https://briefnews.eu/im-a-celebrity-2017-fans-turn-on-newcomer-iain-lee-over-stanley-johnson-clash/ https://briefnews.eu/im-a-celebrity-2017-fans-turn-on-newcomer-iain-lee-over-stanley-johnson-clash/#respond Fri, 24 Nov 2017 00:31:14 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/im-a-celebrity-2017-fans-turn-on-newcomer-iain-lee-over-stanley-johnson-clash/

The latest instalment of the ITV series saw the jungle campmates finally meet new arrivals Iain, 44, and MSP Kezia Dugdale, 36.

But the atmosphere turned frosty almost instantly when the entire camp chose to side with Kezia during the pair’s battle to become the Prime Minister of 10 Downing Creek, which Iain won.

Later, viewers then cemented their view of the comedian when he intervened with Stanley’s attempts to assist Coronation Street actress Jennie McAlpine, 33, with the cooking for the evening.

“If Stanley don’t like Iain then I don’t like Iain #imaceleb,”(sic) one person wrote.

Another viewer posted: “Stanley’s political knowledge will definitely put Iain in his place #ImACeleb @imacelebrity.”

“#imaceleb WHO THE F**K DOES IAIN THINK HE IS CHATTING S**T TO STANLEY F**K OFF MATE,” a third angrily agreed.

Some people were unimpressed with both of the newest contestants, as one fan added: “Not a fan of these two newbies In I’m a Celeb.”

Realising that Jennie had to cook for the entire six campmates at Croc Creek, Stanley had earnestly wanted to help, despite Iain’s declaration that it was against the rules.

“I hope you enjoy your period in office. I very much doubt it will be a long one,” Stanley told him.

Speaking in the Bush Telegraph, Boris Johnson’s father continued to reveal his unhappiness with the situation, adding: “Remember, he’s not Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, he’s Prime Minister of 10 Downing Creek.”

Coronation Street newcomer SLAMS Theresa May as she opens up about activism storm https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-newcomer-slams-theresa-may-as-she-opens-up-about-activism-storm/ https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-newcomer-slams-theresa-may-as-she-opens-up-about-activism-storm/#respond Sun, 11 Jun 2017 11:36:15 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-newcomer-slams-theresa-may-as-she-opens-up-about-activism-storm/

After being fired from her job at PwC for refusing to wear heels to work, the Blackpool-born actress is about to make her Corrie debut as Pat Phelan’s (played by Connor McIntyre) daughter.

Ahead of her big entrance, the 28-year-old actress spoke to press including Express.co.uk about her campaign to change the law in what employers can ask their workers to wear.

She explained: “I’d actively been fired and I checked up on the rules; they can expect you to wear high heels because it’s everyday wear. I said it’s sexualised work wear and in terms of health and safety, they kill your feet.

“So I said I would try and change the law and I set up a petition, went on Facebook and went from there really,” Nicola continued.

She added that despite it being a “small issue”, the complaint was discriminatory, and she took it to parliament to debate.

Nicola revealed: “If I took it to tribunal then every woman in the country would have to, so I tried to change the law.

“The current government said that the law actually is sufficient; and they would – Theresa may does like a little kitten heel.

“I will defend her right to wear them, but maybe no other policies of hers,” the star swiped.

As she was about to start her role on the Cobbles, Nicola went on to admit that she had an “interesting” conversation with the behind-the-scenes teams.

“Nobody knew and I didn’t want to tell anyone,” she shared. “With any new job you worry about rocking the boat and had rocked the boat in my previous job.

“I was very proud of that campaign. Coronation Street has a history of strong feisty women and I told the press department that I’d done this thing and they said, ‘yeah, we’ve already Googled you,’ and I asks if it was okay and they said ‘of course’.

“[Costumes] called me and asked me what I wanted to wear and I said, ‘Is it okay if she doesn’t wear heels for a while?’

“They said, ‘Yeah, it’s really hard to walk in heels on the Cobbles!’

“I personally wear high heels for occasions and I’m sure if Nicola was to wear heels in the future that would be fine.

“It’s very different playing a character than being a receptionist,” Nicola continued.

Coronation Street continues tomorrow on ITV at 7.30pm.
