He has spoken to Sky News and taken to Twitter, however, to respond to his departure from the breakfast TV programme.

To his 7.8million Twitter followers he wrote: “On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview.

“I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on.

“Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”

This Morning continues weekdays at 10am on ITV.

Piers Morgan would be a ‘huge asset’ for GB News, Andrew Neil told BBC News.

The broadcaster said he would be “delighted” to talk to the ex-GMB host about a move,

“If he’s up for it,” added Mr Neil.

GB News is set to take on the likes of BBC, ITV and Sky News and Mr Neil has confirmed the channel will launch sometime this month in March 2021.

Andrew Neil admitted he was left in disbelief listening to Westminster SNP leader Ian Blackford defend Nicola Sturgeon on Good Morning Britain this morning. GMB host Piers Morgan demanded Ian Blackford answer whether Ms Sturgeon should resign if it is found that she broke the ministerial code. During the interview, Mr Blackford refused to even consider this possibility and vehemently denied that she had.

Mr Neil insisted Mr Blackford was “economical with the truth” in his defence against Ms Sturgeon.

“The establishment tried to destroy me, the Sunday Times, get me fired, get other people fired and so on.

“Now nobody doubts that it was true,” he told hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

Neil continued: “However, what is most incredible about The Crown and this is the meeting between Margaret Thatcher and the Queen because it has Margaret Thatcher lecturing the Queen about being a grocer’s daughter whereas the Queen inherited an imperial empire and she didn’t understand things.

“Of course I wasn’t at any of these meetings but I knew Margaret Thatcher very well.

Andrew Neil clashes with Nigel Farage in US election voter fraud row ‘It’s not true!’ https://briefnews.eu/andrew-neil-clashes-with-nigel-farage-in-us-election-voter-fraud-row-its-not-true/ https://briefnews.eu/andrew-neil-clashes-with-nigel-farage-in-us-election-voter-fraud-row-its-not-true/#respond Wed, 04 Nov 2020 09:13:49 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/andrew-neil-clashes-with-nigel-farage-in-us-election-voter-fraud-row-its-not-true/

Donald Trump supporter Nigel Farage joined Andrew Neil on the BBC’s US Election special to debate the president’s comments on voter fraud. The president told an audience at the White House that he had “won the election” and was ready to ask the Supreme court to halt all vote-counting on the basis the votes yet to come in are fraudulent. Neil clashed with Farage when the former UKIP leader agreed with the president the postal voting system is open to fraud.

Neil began: “The president said, ‘People are trying to disenfranchise the United States. What people?’”

Farage replied: “Well what he’s talking about is the potential of voter fraud and what he was especially talking about is the idea of late votes coming in and that clearly shouldn’t be allowed.

“State by state they’ve all done this differently. I’m personally very anti poster voting in totality but I get it in a pandemic that option had to be offered.

“Should there be some rules that states should count all the votes on the night? I would have thought that was something the extreme court would have agreed on.”

“So there is no fraud?” Neil hit back.

“No there is no evidence of fraud at this stage but we know from countries…” Farage explained.

Interrupting, Neil continued: “But the president has claimed it’s a fraud on the American public so if there is no fraud why is he claiming there’s a fraud.”

“We know from our own miserable experience of massively extending postal voting that not only is there fraud, there’s intimidation also we’ve seen it again and again,” Farage said.

“Look I think you’ve seen tonight a president who’s frustrated we haven’t got a clear result.”

“What we could be seeing is a president that’s worried when all the votes are counted he hasn’t won,” the BBC presenter said.

“Well let’s hope when all those votes are counted, they are votes cast before the polls closed and not those that came in afterwards,” Farage added.

Neil hit back: “He’s claiming he’s won on the basis the votes that are still to come in are fraudulent and you know that’s not true Nigel Farage.”

“I didn’t say it was true, did I?” Farage quipped. “I said the president was expressing frustration tonight and American states are incapable of counting votes.”

‘Unfair to the word shambles!’ Andrew Neil rants over UK’s ‘unbelievable’ testing failure https://briefnews.eu/unfair-to-the-word-shambles-andrew-neil-rants-over-uks-unbelievable-testing-failure/ https://briefnews.eu/unfair-to-the-word-shambles-andrew-neil-rants-over-uks-unbelievable-testing-failure/#respond Wed, 09 Sep 2020 12:46:04 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/unfair-to-the-word-shambles-andrew-neil-rants-over-uks-unbelievable-testing-failure/

He blasted: “We have one of the most sophisticated health systems in the world, yet we learned this week that we cannot continue testing because we have ran out of laboratory capacity.

“I find that unbelievable.”

The BBC host added: “The whole point of this operation was that we would be able to test everybody and everybody regularly.”

Speaking from his home in the south of France, Mr Neil claimed he could drive to a testing centre, get tested and receive his results in a matter of 10 minutes, adding: “We’re nowhere near that in Britain.”

Matt Hancock said there had been an increase in people seeking tests when they have not got symptoms of COVID-19.

One school sent a whole year group for tests, which is “not appropriate”, he added.

READ MORE: Pandemic has delayed reforms to social care system says Hancock

Mr Hancock also described how some people who were going on holiday had sought to get tests, which is “not what the testing system is here for”.

People seeking unnecessary tests meant that it was harder for those who needed them to be tested, he added.

Many people who tried to access a test on Wednesday morning were met with the error message: “This service is currently very busy. More tests should be available later. If you cannot book a test now, or the location or time are not convenient, try again in a few hours. Warning: Do not call the helplines – you will not be able to get a test this way.”

The free tests are available to people with symptoms of coronavirus – a fever, new and continuous cough or a loss or change in sense of taste or smell – and for some others such as those who have been instructed to do so by a doctor or local council and some essential workers.

When asked whether the test system is failing, Mr Hancock told Sky News: “I completely reject that accusation. In fact, quite the contrary. Firstly, we have the biggest testing system per head of population of all the major countries in Europe and we built it essentially from scratch.

“Right now, we have the highest capacity for testing that we’ve ever had – increased compared to last week.

“And that testing means that we can find these cases, and therefore help keep the virus under control with the contact tracing system as well.

“However, in the last couple of weeks we have seen an increase in demand, including an increase in demand for people who are not eligible for tests, and people who don’t have symptoms.

“You’re eligible for a test if you have symptoms of coronavirus, or if you have a very specific reason otherwise.

“And we have seen an increase of about 25% of people who are coming forward that don’t have symptoms and aren’t eligible. (They) don’t have a reason for it.

“At the moment, the system is really very straightforward because we wanted it to be easy for people with symptoms to get a test.

“But the message is also clear that if you’re not eligible for a test – if you don’t have symptoms or you haven’t been asked to get a test, specifically by clinician or by local authority – then you shouldn’t be coming forward to get a test, because it makes it harder for people who really need them to get those tests.

He said that in some high-risk circumstances, such as in care homes, there are tests for asymptomatic people.

“But if you’re otherwise asymptomatic then there is no reason to get a test,” the minister added.

“We’ve had stories of schools sending a whole year group to go and get a test, and that is not appropriate. What is appropriate is if you have symptoms and get a test.”

Mr Hancock told BBC Breakfast: “I’ve even heard stories of people saying, ‘I’m going on holiday next week, therefore I’m going to get a test’. No – that is not what the testing system is there for.

“We’ve got to be firmer, I’m afraid, with the rules around eligibility for testing.”

The Government’s testing system in England has been heavily criticised, with Labour calling it a “fiasco” on Tuesday.

This week the Health Secretary pledged that no-one would be instructed to drive more than 75 miles for a test.

SEAL Team’s Neil Brown Jr. Previews Ray’s Next Run as Bravo 1, Whether He Can Help Jason Ease His Pain https://briefnews.eu/seal-teams-neil-brown-jr-previews-rays-next-run-as-bravo-1-whether-he-can-help-jason-ease-his-pain/ https://briefnews.eu/seal-teams-neil-brown-jr-previews-rays-next-run-as-bravo-1-whether-he-can-help-jason-ease-his-pain/#respond Tue, 26 Nov 2019 23:07:24 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/seal-teams-neil-brown-jr-previews-rays-next-run-as-bravo-1-whether-he-can-help-jason-ease-his-pain/

RELATED STORIES

This Wednesday at 9/8c, CBS’ SEAL Team braves another operation without Jason at the helm. Instead, Ray will again lead the charge as Bravo 1, subbing for his injured brother, as the team ventures into enemy territory — during the light of day — to rescue a downed Marine pilot.

TVLine spoke with series vet Neil Brown Jr. about his character’s bittersweet “promotion,” the dangerous obstacles immediately ahead, and whether Ray can help nudge Jason toward the help he so desperately needs.

TVLINE | Ray made some bold calls last week as Bravo 1. Does he realize they just got by, by the skin of their teeth?
I think they always do. If you see the way they operate, they’re always just a sliver away from it going bad. They just have to take all the information and make the right call. But I think Raymond is well-informed, and more often than not he makes the right call.

TVLINE | Is this current scenario a bit bittersweet for Ray, because it means Jason is on the sidelines?
Absolutely, 100 percent. He’d rather his brother be there with him in any capacity, let alone as team leader. They’ve been working together so long, he’d rather see his best friend and brother walk away on his own decision as opposed to being sidelined. I know that Ray will do his best to lead Bravo in the way that Jason would, albeit a little more cautiously. Jason can be a bit wild, and that’s why they work so well, because Ray will reel it in a bit.

TVLINE | That’s why I loved the point that Ray made in choosing the new guy, because you don’t want two Jasons. You need the balance.
That was his call, and that was one of the reasons why they chose Vic, played by Lucca De Oliveira, over Yoder. Bravo works so well because at the head you have these two guys who both actually think in the same way, but one is more cautious than the other. One thinks about things that the other one doesn’t. It’s like the left and right side of each other’s brain.

SEAL Team Season 3TVLINE | Are we going to get any thoughts from Naima on Ray’s current situation?
Interestingly enough, one of the things that’s causing more pressure on Ray, and on the team as well, is because there’s this warrant officer track that he’s on, and then now he has to run the team. So he’s got all the eyes on him now, and of course there is his home life and Naima, played by Parisa [Fakhri], who is just amazing. There are some things you’ll see in the next few episodes about how they’re dealing with it all, but they’re a power couple and a team within the team that finds their way, no matter what.

TVLINE |  I was pleased to see them come out of the other side of last season  stronger, because it was getting a bit dicey there during that long deployment and with that woman at the bar….
Which was nothing. I think that speaks more to people’s own desires more so than it speaks to Raymond. As soon as he opened his eyes up and realized that this woman was smitten with him, that was the last time he spoke to her. He pulled his hand away and was like, “No, no, no,” and then was mad at himself for letting it get that far. Some guys’ thing is cheating on their wives; Ray would never do that. His was trying to quell his anger, and because of that anger he had a cloudy mind. He was talking to someone outside of his marriage and outside of his team because he was very embarrassed about how he was feeling, and very angry about how he was feeling. He didn’t want the people he loved the most to have to worry about him or feel that or didn’t even think that they cared. The journey of faith can be these huge peaks and valleys, and that’s what that was.

TVLINE | Yeah, Ray was quite unsettled last season by that guy not getting his last rites — which was an interesting beat for the show to play.
Yeah. I mean at a certain point he blamed Jason for it, but then he blamed himself, and then he blamed God. These guys work so very hard and they give their lives and their bodies and their minds to the job. For someone like Ray, who has the only good home life, it’s very difficult to balance all that. And one thing that keeps Ray right is his faith. Before that, he was a wild guy, so when that cracks, it’s like, “Oh, my God.” What happens then? But he found his way back, and he and Naima have had tons of conversations outside of the ones we’ve seen, and they found their way back to happiness and joy.

SEAL Team 3x08TVLINE | Give me a sense of the challenges that the Ray-led team will face this week, as they try to rescue a pilot who has fallen into enemy territory.
They’re going into, as you say, enemy territory, but they’re typically coming in under the cover of night. One of the most dangerous things — and the reason why I liked last season, because it was so dangerous for Ray to be out there in Episode 21 — was because it became daytime and he was alone, and that’s when they’re vulnerable. At night, the SEALS control things because they’re smooth, they’re fast, you won’t know they’re there, but in the daytime they become a target. That’s part of what’s going to play into this next episode. You have an unknown number of enemy combatants and we don’t know the assets that they have…. [Rescuing] the pilot becomes a difficult task, increasingly, as it goes on. There are going to be a lot of obstacles that weren’t expected.

TVLINE | Will there be a specific, difficult call for Ray to make?
There’ll be multiple hard calls to make, because somebody may get in more trouble than we needed them to, than we were prepared for at the time.

Seal Team Season 3 Ray JasonTVLINE | We the viewers have seen Jason just imploding, inside his home, trashing the place…. He’s not dealing with his situation well, at all. Will the team-at-large get an inkling of just how bad a place he is in?
Ray, his best friend, knows exactly how bad he’s got it, but he also knows that his friend throughout the years has had to be dealt with in different ways. Sometimes he has to back away completely, and sometimes he has to step in his friend’s face and tell him like it is, and sometimes he has to just be an open ear. Albeit, with the coming trials of the promotion and having to run the team and then all the stuff they went through last year, it’s become increasingly difficult for Ray to be there for his friend as much as he would like to be. So what Raymond has advocated for, for a few seasons now, is therapy — “You need to talk to someone.”

I think the hope is that Jason will eventually talk to someone and find a way to let go of some of this bottled-up pain, which they all need to do. Ray has that with his wife, and he talks to her. He doesn’t tell her everything or anything like that, but he has a release valve. Jason doesn’t really have that anymore. And if there is a release valve, it’s Ray. So as we go on in the future I think these two brothers will find a way to help each other.

TVLINE | Things so far have been going smoothly with both Captain Lindell in charge and Vic Lopez on the team. Is either of those situations going to start to get a little prickly, a little unpredictable?
Anytime you have a new commander, you’ve got to get used to the way he wants things run. I think Captain Lindell ultimately is a special operator who just wants things done more efficiently and better. He’s actually a guy after Ray’s own heart. The new guy, Vic, is similar to Ray in that way, and that’s why Ray has taken him under his wing, even more so than Jason, who normally does that.  I think those two characters, Lindell and Vic, will add in a bunch of new colors to the painting that is SEAL Team. It’s going to be very interesting how we all navigate that.

TVLINE | Lastly, we just heard the news about SEAL Team cast appearing on a primetime Price Is Right special. Had you ever been on the stage before?
No! And it was a dream come true. You’re looking at it as a kid like, “I’m never going to get there,” and then you’re like, “Oh, God, I’m here. How about that? This is pretty cool.”

TVLINE | What were you most excited to see in person?
The wheel! Everybody wants to get to the wheel, bro. And seeing the audience, which was all [military] veterans…. I’ll tell you, man, I come from a military family, and I really love what CBS has done and is continuing to do, particularly as it pertains to SEAL Team, with how they treat and care about veterans, and how right we try to get the show for the community and even for regular military and bringing in their family, because it’s not just the vets who serve. It’s the families who serve. Just seeing how much they love this show brings us to tears consistently, because it feels right.

It feels like a marginalized part of our society that is just treated sometimes as a tool, and we just want to show that there’s so much more than that. You have these beautiful, bright, amazing people who are the ultimate servants to this country. I’m just really humble to be doing it.

Earlier this week, former professional Ian Waite hinted Gorka Marquez could step in to dance with Alex.

Speaking on It Takes Two, host Zoe Ball remarked: “Now, Alex and Neil have an American Smooth this week.

“As we can see in the training room, Alex is marking this on her own, Neil is telling her what to do.

Strictly 2019: Alex Scott faces dance off with Neil after ‘something went wrong’ in Tango https://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-alex-scott-faces-dance-off-with-neil-after-something-went-wrong-in-tango/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-alex-scott-faces-dance-off-with-neil-after-something-went-wrong-in-tango/#respond Sat, 12 Oct 2019 21:25:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-alex-scott-faces-dance-off-with-neil-after-something-went-wrong-in-tango/

The remaining 13 Strictly Come Dancing contestants took to the dance floor to perform for the fourth time of the competition. It was a battle between Karim Zeroual and Kelvin Fletcher for the top spot but surprisingly, David James found himself not at the bottom of the leaderboard. Instead, it was occupied by Alex Scott and she is now the firm favourite to exit the show tomorrow night.

Following an incredible show, where the judges awarded two tens to Karim and Amy Dowden for their incredible Tango, it was Alex and Neil Jones who found themselves with the lowest scores.

The football pundit also performed a Tango, but it did not impress the judges very much.

And the bookmakers have already revealed how she is in danger of going home.

Shirley Ballas was first to give feedback and she said: “I have to say, from last week to this week the frame is starting to get a little bit better.

“When you are on the floor there is a story and you tell it and presence. I just feel that you are being a little bit careful because you are trig to make everybody happy.”

The odds on Alex leaving the show tomorrow night are evens according to Coral.

“Alex Scott is under the most pressure to survive this weekend according to our odds,” spokesman John Hill said.

“The standard was incredible this weekend but it is Kelvin Fletcher who continues to shorten following the performance which left the judges hot under the collar.”

Emma Weymouth is also at risk of being in the dreaded dance off as she has odds of 4/1 to be eliminated.

However, viewers were quick to flood to social media and show Alex their support.

One said: “Have to say Neil and Alex have been shafted on #Strictly tonight. #SCD2019 #strictly2019.”

“I’m really hoping Alex can escape the dance-off tonight. I like her and I think she’s doing really well #Strictly,” another said.

Someone else commented: “Mike Bushell overmarked and Alex Scott massively under marked in my opinion #Strictly.”

“Are these judges kidding me with Alex and Neil and Dev and Dianne being last/low on the leaderboard? Yet Mike gets 9s and 8s??? #Strictly,”  another wrote online.

One fan said: “i’m especially worried about Alex – I hope she stays on longer in the competition, you can just tell she’ll have a breakthrough in 1-2 weeks… #Strictly.”

Strictly Come Dancing returns tomorrow night for the result show on BBC One.

Andrew Neil calls for campaign to clear up confusion over free TV licence for over-75s https://briefnews.eu/andrew-neil-calls-for-campaign-to-clear-up-confusion-over-free-tv-licence-for-over-75s/ https://briefnews.eu/andrew-neil-calls-for-campaign-to-clear-up-confusion-over-free-tv-licence-for-over-75s/#respond Wed, 18 Sep 2019 20:31:23 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/andrew-neil-calls-for-campaign-to-clear-up-confusion-over-free-tv-licence-for-over-75s/

The BBC correspondent joined Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain today and was probed over the corporation’s decision to cancel the free TV licence fee for over 75s. The 70-year-old clarified not all over-75s would lose their free TV licence however, due to confusion surrounding the requirements to have obtain one, not all of those entitled had claimed it.

Piers began: “A lot of anger as the BBC entered into a deal with the Conservatives and took on free licence fee.”

“The BBC took it on but only until the end of a particular period and then it was up to the BBC to decide what to do,” Andrew clarified.

“I know plenty of well off 75-year-old’s. Should they get a free TV licence?”

Piers hit back: “But there are lots of very poor 75-year-olds.”

“But most of them will still get it,” Andrew explained.

But Piers wasn’t impressed as he told the presenter: “Most of them don’t claim it.”

Andrew continued: “Then there should be a campaign, and perhaps the BBC should be a part of that, to encourage them to do so.

“I mean, the government played a slight of hand here, they basically dumped social policy onto the BBC.”

“I think that’s partly because they’ve been misled into thinking they’re going to lose their free licence,” Andrew replied.

“They’re the ones that won’t lose their free licence, nor should they lose it.”

Also in the interview, Andrew gave his opinion on Brexit developments saying he was “deeply depressed”.

“I’m depressed by the approached of by both Remain and Leave,” he said. “Both involved running down our country.”

He added: “Despite the deep tribal differences, in or out of the EU, this is still a great country.
