  • The Nasdaq warned MoviePass’s parent company that it would move to delist its stock as soon as December 28.
  • Shares of Helios and Matheson have traded below $ 1 a share for nearly the entire time since May, violating Nasdaq’s listing standards.
  • The company had until Tuesday to boost its stock price above that threshold, but failed, and the Nasdaq doesn’t think it will be able to ever do it.
  • Helios and Matheson plans to appeal the decision, which would delay and possibly avert the delisting.

The parent company of MoviePass may soon no longer have its shares trading on the Nasdaq market.

The Nasdaq warned Helios and Matheson on Wednesday that it plans to suspend trading in the company’s shares on December 28 and will move to have them delisted, Helios and Matheson disclosed Friday in a document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company plans to delay and potentially head off the delisting by appealing the exchange’s decision.

US Treasurys are heating up, and now Nasdaq is launching a new product to capitalize on what could be a $ 1 trillion shift in the market. 

The New York exchange operator is launching a new futures contract tied to US Treasurys, which would allow investors to hedge investments in maturities ranging from two years to 30. It marks Nasdaq’s first foray into fixed-income futures as it looks to expand its business, says Ted Bragg, head of NFI at Nasdaq.

Two Russian men convicted of their involvement in a massive hack of the Nasdaq stock exchange, Citibank, and other major companies have been given hefty sentences.

The two men, Vladimir Drinkman and Dmitriy Smilianets, pleaded guilty in 2015. On Wednesday, Drinkman was sentenced to 144 months, while Smilianets was given 51 months.

Back in 2013, five men were indicted on federal charges. They were accused of, among other things, trading text strings that exploited SQL-injection vulnerabilities in the victim companies’ websites to obtain login credentials and other sensitive data and installing malware that gave them persistent backdoor access to the networks. The breaches resulted in losses worth hundreds of millions of dollars via fraudulent ATM withdrawals. The scheme lasted from 2005 until 2012.

Bitcoin continues to grow, hitting a $ 11,000 price per coin valuation less than a day after it topped $ 10,000. The cryptocurrency has been normalizing with investors, getting its own federally-regulated exchange this past July. Now, Nasdaq is planning to launch contracts for bitcoin futures in the first half of 2018, according to The Wall Street Journal, which will enable investors to predict and put money on the future price of the currency.

The Wall Street Journal also reports that broker Cantor Fitzgerald will be launching bitcoin derivatives on its own exchange in the first half of next year as well, making for yet another brokerage to help make bitcoin a more mainstream financial instrument. The relative youth and volatility of the currency still keeps many investors away, of course, but bitcoin is probably here to stay, even if this is just a bubble. New uses for regular folks to spend with the currency continue to rise, like the UK Visa card based on bitcoin and Square’s testing of the currency in its payment app.

The last time we heard much about Elio Motors was back in January at the Detroit auto show, where the company showed off its latest iteration of the E-Series three-wheeler. That month, we also learned that Elio was seriously low on cash. But the company seems to have a plan to fix that, and it involves selling stock.

Elio announced that it has filed with the SEC to offer stock in the company publicly. It will be offered on the NASDAQ stock exchange with the ticker symbol “ELIO.” How much is the company hoping to earn? A not-insubstantial $ 100 million.

The company has seen its share of setbacks of late. In addition to the cash issues, Elio also announced in January that it was pushing delivery back another year to 2018. The price of the Elio has crept up over time, too. It started with a target base price of $ 6,800, and then bumped up to $ 7,300. In its stock offering announcement, we noticed that Elio has tacked another $ 150 onto the base price for a total of $ 7,450. Of course even with the price increases, the car will still be far cheaper than any other car in the U.S.
