Speaking at the New York Times Co’s DealBook conference in New York, Murdoch, who will become CEO of the remaining company “New Fox,” said the company “will be inquisitive” in looking at the possibility of buying back the sports assets.

The student, 19, was first noticed by the Rupert Murdoch-owned paper when she was elected as the woman’s officer for Rochester and Strood, in Kent, after being involved in a campaign to oust the lesbian woman previously in the role.

A fellow Labour member in Kent revealed to RT UK that Lily contacted the Times herself, after being proud of her election to the voluntary position.

However, since then, the paper has appeared to follow her every move, sparking outrage from journalist and commentator Owen Jones, trans rights activists, and scores of angered social media users.

On November 15, an article was titled ‘Labour officials quit in transgender dispute’ explaining how members of a council committee stood down over Lily’s appointment.  Five days later an article entitled ‘Trans teenager Lily Madigan voted in as a Labour women’s officer’ was printed.

On November 25, news was carried about Lily applying to be part of a Labour training program, titled ‘Trans teenager Lily Madigan applies for Jo Cox women’s leadership scheme’.

The next day, another article came, under the headline ‘Lily Madigan: I’m a transgender teen agitator; I make an ideal Labour women’s officer’.

On November 29, trans activist Debbie Hayton wrote an article titles ‘We transgender women cannot self identify our sex’ in which she questioned the right of trans women to take on specialist female roles.

With every article came a stream of abuse over Twitter and Facebook, prompting a huge row over whether a trans woman can have a role representing all women, such as Lily was elected to by Labour Party members.

Vile messages called her a man and insisted she “stole a woman’s job” and has “no right” and “no experience” to be the voice of women. Lily herself issued an urgent plea to end the media attention.

“Please stop. I can’t handle it anymore. I’m so mentally distressed that I can’t sleep or eat or go to school. No one deserves this. There’s only so many times I can read lies or my deadname or misgendering. I’m just a teenager. Please just stop. I don’t want to do this anymore,” she tweeted.

The anguished cry for help angered left-wing activists who labelled the paper “bigoted.” Author, commentator and activist Owen Jones was among them.

“I hope the transphobes, including The Times newspaper, are proud of themselves for vindictively bullying this 19 year old girl. All my solidarity, Lily. The bigots are going to lose, and what’s more, they know it,” he wrote.

Others slammed the paper for their coverage which included a comment piece from a trans woman.

After every article Lily was attacked online. It later emerged a previous Twitter account in Lily’s name made jokes about blowjobs, rape and Jimmy Savile.

Lily denies the account was ever hers, but the image is her as a boy named Liam making an offensive gesture, and, among those who spoke with the account in 2013 was Lily’s own brother, casting doubt on her story. However, she was backed by the Labour Party – but mercilessly abused online.

Women who were on the Jo Cox program stood up for Lily and wrote a letter to The Times, but it was not published.

“Nothing newsworthy about a trans woman applying for the Jo Cox scheme, shame on The Times for trying to make out like there’s anything wrong with it,” one woman wrote.

“Best of luck to Lily and the rest of the applicants.”

“Very pleased to see that my local MP has signed this letter. As for the @thetimes shame on you for not publishing the letter, whatever happened to the fair and balanced reporting The Times was known for?” another said.

Lily, who has met Jeremy Corbyn, is hoping to become the first ever trans MP.

The Sword of Damocles is hanging over Sky News, ready to slice the UK news network if it becomes an obstacle in the merger between Sky and Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox. Fox currently owns 39 percent of Sky, but is now vying for full control.

The deal is currently being assessed by media regulators amid fears the Murdoch empire’s monopoly over the UK media would become too great if the sale were to go ahead.

In a statement responding to issues with the deal laid out by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), Sky warned the regulator not to assume the “continued provision of Sky News.”

The CMA is an independent, non-ministerial government department for the purpose of keeping competition and consumer authority in check in the UK.

“Sky would likely be prompted to review the position in the event that the continued provision of Sky News in its current form unduly impeded merger and/or other corporate opportunities,” Sky’s statement said.

In September, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Karen Bradley referred Fox’s proposed takeover of Sky to the CMA.

James Murdoch, chairman of 21st Century Fox, urged the government to “remove the noise and get to the facts” of the deal, when speaking to the Royal Television Society Convention in Cambridge.

“We owned 100 percent of [Sky] for many, many years – there were no issues,” Murdoch said.

“When I was chief executive – no issues. And when I was chairman – and I’m chairman again – no issues. So the record has to count for something.”

CMA panel chair Anne Lambert will lead the investigation into the potential takeover.

“The CMA will use its extensive experience of investigating different issues in a wide range of sectors to thoroughly and impartially investigate the proposed takeover of Sky Plc by 21st Century Fox,” Lambert said.

“Once the investigation is complete we will report back to Karen Bradley for her to make a final decision.”

Washington (AFP) – Media mogul Rupert Murdoch recently urged President Donald Trump to sack his far-right chief strategist Steve Bannon, The New York Times reported late Monday.

Murdoch made his plea during a White House dinner before Trump left for vacation in New Jersey on August 4, the Times said.

The timing means it preceded the violence that broke out over the weekend at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, leaving one dead and 19 wounded. 

Bannon’s critics label him a white supremacist.

The dinner was also attended by Jared Kushner, one of Trump’s closest advisers and the husband of his daughter Ivanka, and Trump’s new chief of staff John Kelly, the paper said, quoting a person familiar with the conversation.

Trump did not strongly counter Murdoch’s advice and expressed frustration with Bannon, the paper said.

CBS News also said Bannon’s job is in jeopardy after Trump failed to speak out immediately against white supremacists after the violence in Virginia. Bannon could be gone by the end of the week, CBS said, quoting a source it did not identify.

Bannon, the former head of ultra conservative outlet Breitbart News, is described as being the nucleus of one of several competing power centers in what has been a chaotic White House.

The Times said Kelly has warned he will not tolerate what he sees as Bannon’s behind the scenes maneuvering in the West Wing. 

The paper quoted a dozen current and former Trump aides and associates who have knowledge of the situation.

Murdoch, a founder of Fox News, which Trump is said to watch assiduously and often praises as he criticizes other mainstream media as sources of fake news, is close to Kushner, the Times said.

And Kushner does not get along well with Bannon, it added.

The Times said Bannon is in disfavor for allegedly leaking stories about White House colleagues who he feels do not sufficiently adhere to Bannon’s populist agenda, fighting nastily with Kushner and creating a unit that operates outside the chain of command in the White House.

Tesla Inc said on Monday that it had appointed two new directors to its board, including Twenty-First Century Fox Inc. Chief Executive James Murdoch, increasing its board size to nine.

Linda Johnson Rice, who heads Ebony Magazine publisher Johnson Publishing Co, was the other director named to the board.

Earlier this month, the company’s investors approved all five of its proposals, including one that shot down a move to make its directors stand for re-election each year.

Connecticut Retirement Plans and Trust Funds had urged fellow Tesla shareholders to vote for a proposal aimed at the declassification of the company’s board, arguing that “annual accountability can lead to increased company performance.”

Tesla, led by Elon Musk, has been betting big on its mass-market Model 3, the first deliveries of which are expected to begin next week.

Tesla shares were slightly down after the bell on Monday.

“It’s Jeremy Corbyn’s birthday. So The Sun have got him a cake. How kind,” mocked ITV reporter Carl Dinnen.

Some argued the joke derived from a pledge in Labour’s new manifesto to freeze the state pension age at 66.

Others interpreted it as a call for the aspiring prime minister to step down.

The Sun has long called for Corbyn’s resignation, with several of its columnists and editorials branding the Labour leader “unfit” to hold the post.

Corbyn has, however, won the approval of Labour members and supporters twice, winning the 2015 leadership elections with 59 percent of the vote, and the year after with 61 percent.

The socialist has also often had to deny rumors in the mainstream press that he was standing down.

“You’re obsessed with this question, utterly obsessed with it,” Corbyn told ITV News political correspondent Paul Brand, when he asked the Labour leader whether he would resign based on his poll ratings.

“We have a strong opposition in this country if you bothered to report what we were doing. It’s your responsibility to make sure the opposition voice is heard as well as the government’s voice. It’s your failings,” he added.

The polls appear to have since vindicated Corbyn, with voting intentions for the June 8 general election now giving Labour 38 percent support.

When Prime Minister Theresa May called the snap election, the Conservatives enjoyed a 20-point lead. It has now been slashed to five – a mere fortnight before the election.
