A monster-like 4.2 meter-long (13ft) giant squid – which brings to mind the mysterious kraken – has been discovered on a Wellington beach by shocked New Zealand brothers out for a morning dive. Three brothers Daniel, Jack, and Matthew Aplin discovered the giant squid on the shore Sunday morning, after venturing to a part of the beach only accessible by a four-wheel drive. “My brother said ‘what’s that over there?’ and pointed it out. It was right next to the track so we pulled over and we were like: ‘It’s a big squid,’” said Daniel Aplin to NewstalkZB. The nightmarish squid resembles the legendary cephalopod-like sea monster that is rumoured to dwell off the coasts of Norway and Greenland. It’s not known what caused the huge animal to wash ashore – one of the brothers said the squid didn’t appear to be injured apart from a small scratch on the top of its head. READ MORE: ‘Is that Falkor?’ Hideous sea monster washes up on Maine shore (PHOTOS) The brothers called the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) who immediately came to collect the squid. The Department of Conservation previously said giant squids like this one actually wash up on the beach relatively regularly. “It’s not common but it’s not rare,” said a spokesperson for the department. Giant squids have been known to grow as long as 13 meters, almost eight times the size of an average squid. They’re only superseded by the colossal squid, which can grow as big as 14 meters and is usually hunted by sperm whales. Like this story? Share it with a friend! Lamborghini has unveiled the all-new Aventador SVJ supercar. The new supercar launched on the 23 August at ‘The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering” in the USA. It has finally debuted after a few months of teasing and it does not disappoint. The car is a more muscular and aggressive version than the Aventador with sharp air intakes, large spoiler and massive air intakes at the side. In addition to this the front splitter solid rear diffuser, dual exhaust, and gill-like rear end. Powering the car is a 6.5-litre V12 petrol engine which produces 770 hp and 720 Nm of torque. This gargantuan powertrain will allow the vehicle to sprint from 0-62mph in just 2.8 seconds and from 0-124mph in 8.6 seconds. Its top speed has been set at 217mph. Lamborghini has achieved this by producing a lighter weight car weighing in at 1,525kg giving it a weight to power ratio of 1.98 kg/hp. The car has been tested at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, and the carmaker says that the philosophy behind the SVJ is to create a ‘demanding driver’s perfect car’. It goes to achieve this in some way, by fitting it with Lamborghini’s patented active aerodynamics system and aero vectoring. Both of these systems have been enhanced for the SVJ, along with a redesign of the chassis, enhanced powertrain, re-engineered chassis, improved stiffness, enhanced rear-wheel steering, increased stiffness and significantly improved downforce. “We are truly delighted to host the European debut of the new SVJ,” commented Salon Privé Founding Directors Andrew and David Bagley. “It is an honour for us to be involved in the debut of such an important ground-breaking car and we know visitors to Salon Privé will appreciate the opportunity to see this new Lamborghini just as it has been unveiled.” It will make its European debut at Salon Privé, which takes place at Blenheim Palace from Thursday 30 August to Saturday 1 September.

]]>Nadal defeated David Goffin 6-4, 6-0 for his 400th career win on clay, reaching the Barcelona Open final for the 11th time. The top-ranked Spaniard will face 19-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas, the first Greek player to make it to an ATP Tour final in 45 years. He defeated fifth-seeded Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain 7-5, 6-3.
Nadal was broken early in the first set by the 10th-ranked Goffin but quickly took control of the match to earn his 18th straight victory on clay. “I’m very happy. I played I think my best match of the tournament so far, no doubt about that,” Nadal said. “I have been playing well. I played a very solid match. That’s so important for me. I feel strong.” He has won 44 consecutive sets on clay, extending his own record. Nadal is fourth in the list of all-time winners on the surface in the Open era. Guillermo Vilas of Argentina is at the top with 659 wins, ahead of Manuel Orantes of Spain (502) and Thomas Muster of Austria (422).
With a record of 400-35, Nadal has the best ever winning percentage on clay. He has won a record 54 titles on the dirt.
His last clay-court loss came against Dominic Thiem in Rome last year. Nadal needs to win his 11th Barcelona title on Sunday to retain his No. 1 ranking. He won his 11th Monte Carlo Masters last week.
“Stefanos is a great player,” Nadal said. “Always the young players have something special and he’s playing with big confidence. He’s playing so well, so it’s going to be a very tough match.” Tsitsipas, No. 63 in the world, is the youngest finalist in Barcelona since 2005. He is trying to become the first unseeded champion in the tournament since Gaston Gaudio in 2002.
“I went onto the court and enjoyed every single moment,” said Tsitsipas, who can become the first Greek to win an ATP Tour title. “I am very proud of myself and also I believe I made my country proud.” A Greek hadn’t made it to a final since Nicholas Kalogeropoulos in 1973. It will be the first match between Nadal and Tsitsipas.
“I have watched millions of his matches on clay,” Tsitsipas said. “I know the way he is playing and, I think, the way he is going to play against me. I was preparing for this match already, 10 years (ago). I’m going to go out there, enjoy it and play my best.”

]]>As Fear the Walking Dead warned us with its calamitous Season 3 finale, these Season 4 photos, released exclusively to TVLine Wednesday, appear to confirm thatThe Walking Dead offshoot is about to go dark. Very dark.
The cast portraits, full of grim faces and a background so black, it threatens to swallow the actors whole, suggest that under new showrunners Andrew Chambliss (Once Upon a Time) and Ian Goldberg (Dead of Summer) there will be no lightening up of the AMC drama, which returns Sunday, April 10, following TWD’s Season 8 finale. The pictures — among them, shots of new series regulars Lennie James (who’s crossing over Morgan from TWD), Jenna Elfman (Dharma and Greg), Garret Dillahunt (The Mindy Project) and Maggie Grace (Lost) — also reveal which characters’ whose fates were left up in the air at the end of Season 3 still have a pulse going into Season 4.
Per the show’s official logline, in the coming episodes, the Clark family and Morgan’s “immediate past mixes with an uncertain present of struggle and discovery as they meet new friends, foes and threats. They fight for each other, against each other and against a legion of the dead to somehow build an existence against the crushing pressure of lives coming apart. There will be darkness and light; terror and grace; the heroic, mercenary and craven, all crashing together towards a new reality.”

Brace yourself: the deluge of product announcements for next month’s Consumer Electronics Show has begun.
LG took its turn in the spotlight on Thursday, announcing a trio of new monitors that’ll be showcased in full at the upcoming trade show. The star of the bunch is likely the 34WK95U, a 34-inch ultrawide monitor with a (roughly) 21:9 aspect ratio and a 5K resolution. Well, sort of 5K—that resolution is technically 5,120 x 2,160, meaning it has the same number of vertical pixels as a 4K monitor but adds pixels horizontally.
The device will include a Thunderbolt 3 port and what appear to be fairly slim bezels, too. The idea here is to court professionals who need to have several windows open at once, edit images and videos with precision, and so on. Here’s hoping it doesn’t suffer from any technical issues like its last high-profile 5K monitor.

Dubai, city of cranes, is home to the world’s tallest building (the Burj Khalifa), and a premier grower of artificial islands (google Palm Jumeirah). Yesterday, this tax-free emirate on the Persian Gulf played host to another spectacle of prodigiousness: the reveal of our homegrown superhero, the 755-hp Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Clearly they do it big out here. Still, it might be natural to ask, “Why launch the baddest Corvette in the Las Vegas of the Middle East, when we have the real Las Vegas here in Nevada?”
–
So we did. The car’s executive chief engineer, Tadge Juechter, told us there’s a big fan base for the car here, “and it really started with the new one [C7].” Indeed, there’s an active Corvette club in the United Arab Emirates, established in 2007, with its own website, mission statement, and roughly 75 active members. The club was there in force at the car’s reveal.
–
–
Chevrolet’s global boss, Alan Batey, concurred: “We have a long history in the Middle East, and we have a very passionate following, with Corvette always one of the favorites. With Dubai becoming a global icon, we felt it would be a great place to show the most powerful and fastest Corvette ever—the ZR1.”
–
–
–
–
–
In addition to those rational reasons, we might speculate on some irrational ones: Cars, i.e., non-crossover-type vehicles, aren’t DOA over here, and the market for supercars continues to grow with the local economy. And though gas isn’t quite Saudi low in Dubai (it’s about $ 2 a gallon), no one looks at you funny if your car yowls with a mega-horsepower V-8. But maybe most important for the Plastic Fantastic, the Bowling Green Bomber, the car even many a red-blooded American would make hajj for, is that the ZR1 is a true exotic over here, as potent a symbol of exclusivity as any Lamborghini, despite its resolute affordability.

FEATURE:
Although a lot of this year’s Madden hype revolves around Longshot, chances are you will return to a familiar favorite once the story mode runs its course.
Madden NFL 18’s franchise mode remains virtually unchanged from last year’s iteration. I haven’t noticed a single difference between the two, which means there are a few delightful exploits to take advantage of on the way to the hall of fame.
Before getting into the meat of this guide, which should give you all the tools necessary to dominate in your solo exploits, here is a quick rundown of how I made it.
First of all, I only play on the highest difficulty. Sports games are easy and should be treated as such. I also use 12-minute quarters. While other games have devised realistic systems that allow you to play with the real-life quarter length, Madden has not. I find that 12 minutes allows for the same amount of plays found in a regular NFL game. If you do 15, you’re going to throw for 600 yards and five interceptions.
Next, it’s important to note that Madden has one true exploit: While other sports franchises (FIFA, NBA 2K) punish your speed, agility and similar rankings for making a larger player, Madden does not. That’s not to say a 7-foot tall running back moves as quickly as one standing 5 feet 7 inches, but they would technically have the same ratings. Some positions can use this, and I will show you which.
And finally, always create your player as an early round draft pick. You will start with the skills necessary to do well as a rookie. The “increased physical attributes” you get as a late-round pick aren’t worth it. The difference between a speed statistic of 90 vs. 94 isn’t worth the all-around value of starting as an early pick.
Here are my specific breakdowns for most created player positions in Madden NFL 18.
Always create a mobile quarterback. I repeat: Always play a mobile quarterback. The costs of upgrading physical attributes like speed, acceleration and agility greatly outweigh improving the throwing attributes. You will start with a 95 throwing power, so spend your first six weeks or so upgrading your accuracy statistics.
Make him tall, as in 6 feet-6 inches or larger. This will allow you to see over most of the lineman when dropping back, and you’ll still be able to move quickly because the game doesn’t punish you as much for size.
You may want to check the offensive line of the team you wish to play for before creating your player. Adding a lineman or two to shore up any deficiencies may help. If you do this, make sure you select the “active roster” option rather than the “real roster” one when starting the franchise mode, or your changes may not save.
The Denver Broncos is an excellent team to consider, as it needs a quarterback and has two great wide receivers.
Start out the first week by leveling up short, medium and long accuracy and buying the “brace vs. all” trait, which helps you not fumble when you get hit.
When playing, there are a few things to consider.
You will throw interceptions. The All-Madden difficulty makes the opposing defensive backs into monster, so sometimes you just will throw picks. You will also take sacks, as this difficulty turns your offensive linemen into marshmallows.
But you can take advantage of a defense before the ball is snapped. The traditional way of calling plays means you select running plays on first down. Don’t do that. Try using a play-action or short pass.
Once you’ve picked a play, take a look at the safeties — the defensive players in the very back. There should be two of them. If there’s not, then one is likely blitzing or in coverage. Audible to something deep, and throw it in the direction the single safety is not — especially if you see that wide receiver’s cover guy up really close to him.
You should also take a look at what the defensive ends, the guys on the outside of the line opposite your line, do after you snap the ball. If they’re trying to rush to the outside of your tackles, stay inside the pocket created by your line. If they try to move inside, you’re probably going to be able to run it to the outside. If you have 10 yards or so in front of you, run it. Passing is always risky, even if your guy is wide open. Running for the first down is a sure bet.
When you do throw it, make use of Madden’s different passing options. Flicking the left stick forward while tapping a receiver’s button will execute a long ball perfect for deep routes, while holding the button is better for quick passes like slants and screens. If you can see where the defender is, flick the stick away from that player. Your receivers will drop a lot of passes. That just happens on All-Madden difficulty.
It’s important to note that your running back will be a complete idiot during this playthrough. He will never be good for more than a few yards. I like to complete 50 or 100 yards of passing before going to the running back, as the defense will no longer be primed to swallow him whole.
Quarterback allows you the most control in the game. It’s not a bad place to fall back on if you start to get frustrated with Madden’s horrible AI.
