Salah was the star of the show for Liverpool last season, scoring 44 goals in 52 appearances, on the way to the Champions League final. Salah picked up both the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and the Football Writers’ Association’s Footballer of the Year after a stunning campaign. And Salah has today penned a new five-year deal worth £200,000 a week with Liverpool which does NOT include a release clause. Klopp thinks it shows that Liverpool are going in the right direction and shows how much the club have grown. He said: “I think this news can be seen for what it is; rewarding a person who performed and contributed greatly for the team and the club last season. “It demonstrates two things very clearly also – his belief in Liverpool and our belief in him. “We want world-class talent to see they have a home at Anfield where they can fulfil all their professional dreams and ambitions – we are working hard together to achieve this.” LIVERPOOL TRANSFER NEWS LIVE UPDATES Salah, 26, joined Liverpool from Roma in a surprise £34m deal last summer, having struggled at Chelsea before moving to Italy. But he turned into the best signing of the summer, inspiring Liverpool in pursuit of European glory. Ultimately Liverpool lost to Madrid in Kiev, but only after Salah had been forced off with a shoulder injury after a collision with Sergio Ramos. And Klopp thinks Salah signing a new deal, after links with Barcelona and Real Madrid, sends a message to the football world. “When someone like Mo Salah commits and says this place is my home now, it speaks very loudly I think,” the German added. “Equally, our commitment to him says we see his value and want him to grow even more and get even better within our environment. “The key thing to remember is the best thing about Mo is that he never sees himself as being more important than the team or anyone else within it. He recognises his teammates and this club helped him achieve individual success last season. He sees the individual awards come because he is part of something bigger that is special. “Mo reflects where we are as a team, I think. Last season was special with many special moments – but we want more. “We want to be more successful and achieve more together – as the supporters sang so loudly, ‘we’re never gonna stop’. This has to be the attitude individually and collectively.” Salah went to the World Cup still injured and missed Egypt’s first game against Uruguay before playing in the defeat to Russia. He also played in the Saudi Arabia defeat but never looked fully fit. He will return to Melwood for pre-season training after a holiday in preparation for next season, which kicks off on August 11 against West Ham.

Luis Suarez led the way as Uruguay made sure of top spot in Group A by ending 10-man Russia’s perfect start to their own World Cup in humbling fashion.
Suarez fired the South Americans in front with a sweetly-struck free-kick just 10 minutes in at the Samara Arena before Denis Cheryshev deflected Diego Laxalt’s effort past goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev 13 minutes later to double the advantage.
Russia’s hopes of launching a fightback were effectively dashed before half-time when full-back Igor Smolnikov was sent off for a second bookable offence and, although they were much improved after the restart, Edinson Cavani struck again at the death as Uruguay coasted to a 3-0 win to complete a maximum haul of nine points without conceding a single goal.
SAUDI ARABIA 2-1 EGYPT – SALAH (20), AL FARAJ (45+6), AL DAWSARI (90+3)
Saudi Arabia managed their first win at the 2018 World Cup by beating Egypt 2-1 with a last-gasp winner that eclipsed Egyptian talisman Mohamed Salah’s 22nd minute goal today’s Group A game between the two eliminated teams.
Saudi Arabia finished third in the group standings, scoring their only goals of the tournament and vastly improving from the 5-0 thrashing by hosts Russia in their opening game.
It was a bitter disappointment for the Egyptian side, however, with Liverpool striker Salah unable to prevent three consecutive defeats for his country. Egyptian keeper Essam El-Hadary became the oldest player ever to appear at a World Cup at 45-years-old.
Saudi Arabia got back in the game with a penalty awarded just before halftime and Salman Al-Faraj scored from the spot. They then pulled off a win in the 95th minute thanks to Salem Al-Dawsari’s angled shot.

SAUDI ARABIA 2-1 EGYPT
FT: Egypt finish bottom of Group A following three successive losses. Salem Al Dawsari’s late strike was enough for Saudi Arabia, who finish the tournament on a high.
SAUDI ARABIA 2-1 EGYPT – AL DAWSARI
93: No way! Saudi Arabia clinch third position with virtually the last kick of the game!
Salem Al Dawsari drills home the winner after Al Burayk’s cross was flicked into his path. Scenes folks, scenes.
URUGUAY 3-0 RUSSIA
FT: And there you have it. Uruguay have played three, won three and didn’t concede once. They finish top of Group A and will play either Spain or Portugal in the last 16.
It may have taken the shine off of Russia’s own qualification, but the hosts can still be pleased to have reached the knockout stages.
SAUDI ARABIA 1-1 EGYPT
85: Any late drama between these two? Very little indeed. It’s mostly been substations to give players a World Cup appearance. Oh, and there was a yellow card for Fathy but I doubt you care about that.

URUGUAY 3-0 RUSSIA – CAVANI (90)
90: He’s finally got his name on the scoresheet! Edinson Cavani opens his 2018 World Cup account to make sure Uruguay finish the group stages with a perfect record.
Edison Cavani pounces on a loose ball after Diego Godin’s header was saved.
SAUDI ARABIA 1-1 EGYPT
80: We’ve entered the final ten minutes. As things stand, Egypt will finish third thanks to their superior -3 goal difference.
77: Mohamed Salah hasn’t really had a chance to add to his collection of World Cup goals. He unselfishly lays it off to Sobhi, whose effort is deflected wide.
URUGUAY 2-0 RUSSIA
86: Caceres should wrap things up from a corner but guides his header wide with the goal at his mercy.
83: Commentator’s curse strikes again. Luis Suarez claims a long ball forward but his cross for the unmarked Edinson Cavani is a few yards ahead of the PSG striker.
80: Arsenal fans around the country scream “NOOOOOO” as Kuzyayev chops Lucas Torreira down. He’s clutching his calf in agony but he’s fine to continue after a squirt of water.
Ten minutes remaining and I’m afraid to report that I can’t see things changing much.

SAUDI ARABIA 1-1 EGYPT
74: Saudi Arabia have had 18 shots this afternoon with just six on target. The the one on target for Egypt in a seriously wasteful clash.
71: Trezeguet could quite easily have score a hat-trick this afternoon. Proving that he ONLY looks like his French namesake.
URUGUAY 2-0 RUSSIA
73: Oh he’s got to do better! Dzyuba has a cracking opportunity to pull one back but he’s shanked that into orbit.
70: The hosts can actually be quite proud of their display with ten men on the field. They’ve not created too much but have limited Uruguay to precious few chances.
SAUDI ARABIA 1-1 EGYPT
60: The pendulum swings again! Egypt are in the ascendency with Trezeguet and Hegazi missing the opportunities. The former heads wide of the post before the West Brom defender volleys over from close range.
SAUDI ARABIA 1-1 EGYPT
55: Ambitious shout from Motaz Hawsawi, who wants a penalty for having his ankle clipped. Nothing doing. Do Saudi Arabia know that they are allowed to score from something other than a spot-kick?

SAUDI ARABIA 1-1 EGYPT
50: Saudi Arabia boss Juan Antonio Pizzi looks more relaxed having kicked over a few water bottles in the opening half. His side are dominating the ball but haven’t caused Egypt to many issues.
URUGUAY 2-0 RUSSIA
53: Huge excitement rings around the stadium as Samedov prepares to deliver a free-kick from the right… straight out of play. Terrible.
48: Edinson Cavani, who hasn’t managed to get his name on the scoresheet during this World Cup, lines up a free-kick that he slams straight against the wall.
URUGUAY 2-0 RUSSIA, SAUDI ARABIA 1-1 EGYPT
45: And we’re back underway in both Group A fixtures. Should results stay the same and things go according to the script in Group B later, Russia will be playing Spain in the last 16 while Portugal will await Uruguay.

HT: Dead rubber? Not a chance. Saudi Arabia and Egypt have treated us to an entertaining first half in Volgograd.
Mohamed Salah vindicated his inclusion with just 22 minutes played by putting Egypt ahead with a smart lob.
Fahad Al Muwallad squandered the chance to level things up when seeing his spot-kick saved by 45-year-old El Hadary.
But colleague Salman Al-Faraj made no mistake when converting a second penalty awarded just five minutes later. It’s nicely poised in the battle for third place.
URUGUAY 2-0 RUSSIA
HT: No messing around today. Uruguay hold a commanding 2-0 half-time lead over World Cup hosts Russia in the battle to top Group A.
Luis Suarez grabbed the opener with a tidy free-kick and a Denis Cheryshev own goal doubled the visitors’ lead.

46: Chaos! Five minutes after 45-year-old goalkeeper Al Hadary saved Al Muwallad’s penalty, referee Wilmar Roldan Perez awards another!
Gabr tugs Al Muwallad’s shirt and the forward theatrically goes down. I think it’s harsh but VAR doesn’t believe it to be a clear and obvious error.

SAUDI ARABIA 0-1 EGYPT – MISSED PENALTY
40: Would you believe it. Egypt goalkeeper Essam El Hadary became the oldest player in World Cup finals history today. And now he’s the oldest player in World Cup finals history to save a penalty.
Al Sharahni’s cross hits Ibrahim’s arm and the referee checks VAR before awarding the penalty. Al-Muwallad powered the ball to El Hadary’s left and the 45-year-old makes a spectacular save!
SAUDI ARABIA 0-1 EGYPT
38: Saudi Arabia don’t fancy this. Egypt could be two or three goals ahead if Trezeguet had his shooting boots on.
URUGUAY 2-0 RUSSIA – RED CARD
36: I may have spoken too soon about a potential Russia comeback. Igor Smolnikov has received a second booking for dragging down Laxalt, deservedly so. There was just nine minutes between his first and second cards.
URUGUAY 2-0 RUSSIA
35: They might be losing, but Russia aren’t taking this lying down. Stanislav Cherchesov’s side are throwing bodies forward in search of a goal before the break.

23: It looks like Uruguay will top Group A! Fortunate goal though.
Man-mountain Artem Dzyuba clears a corner that Diego Laxalt leathers from 25-yards. It’s not heading for goal until it takes a deflection off Denis Cheryshev and wrong-foots Igor Akinfeev.
SAUDI ARABIA 0-1 EGYPT – SALAH (20)
20: Mohamed Salah is saying goodbye to the 2018 World Cup in style.
The Liverpool forward, who’s been fairly quiet in the early stage, bursts onto El Said’s long ball forward and dinks it over the onrushing goalkeeper.
URUGUAY 1-0 RUSSIA – SUAREZ (9)
9: Guess who? Barcelona star Luis Suarez has given Uruguay the best possible start against Russia.
The hosts concede a clumsy free-kick on the edge of the penalty area. Suarez obliges by promptly rifling home a low free-kick.

Liverpool forward Salah hobbled out of the Reds’ Champions League final with Real Madrid at the weekend with a shoulder injury.
Sergio Ramos collided with the Egypt international, consequently plunging Salah’s World Cup in doubt.
The Liverpool star will be his country’s talisman going into the tournament – if he can make it in time.
But he was giving nothing sway when ambushed by a reporter for Spanish TV at an airport today.
La Sexta published footage of Salah being bombarded with questions from a reporter.
But the player refused to verbally reply – only at one point did he even seem to react to the questioning.
The journalist jumped Salah as he was walking with a suitcase and asked: “Will you play at the World Cup? Are you ready? Do you expect to start the World Cup?”
Salah then moved his head from side to side, suggesting there is still doubt over his World Cup dreams.
The questioning continued, without reply.
“Do you think that Ramos injured you intentionally in the Champions League final?” the journalist said.
“Is it possible for you to play at Real Madrid next year?
“How are you? A lot of people worry about you and your injury.”
Eventually Salah walked off.
The clip of Salah strolling around comes after Liverpool’s physiotherapist Ruben Pons opened up on his condition.
“We knew that it was something serious as soon as [Salah] fell on the ground because he never complains, we were afraid of the worst,” he told Spanish daily newspaper Marca.
“We were in the field until the break, I was devastated, I tried to transmit calmness, I told him that nothing could be done and that he did not worry too much, it was time to look for solutions and not to regret because things did not work.
“We were watching the game, we were looking at social networks and the security was telling us the result, Madrid has scored, we equalised.
“When we came back, the game was over, the whole team had changed and prepared for riding the team bus, we helped him change because he could not do it alone and we went to the airport.
“Once we knew the injury we planned the treatment, he is sad about what happened but he is totally focused on recovery and seeing when he can be ready.
“He is going to mark the recovery times, in principle it will be from three to four weeks but we are going to try to reduce those deadlines, that’s the big goal.”
Salah scored 44 goals for Liverpool across all competitions last season following his arrival from Roma.
Salah came off in tears in the first half after a challenge with Sergio Ramos left him on the turf.
Liverpool lost the final following two Loris Karius mistakes and a Gareth Bale wonder strike.
And Klopp rued the Reds’ misfortune in the Ukrainian capital.
“The plan is only to play to win, nothing else, not a lot to say. We started well and played exactly like we wanted to,” he said.
“The situation with Sergio Ramos [and Mohamed Salah] looked really bad and it was a shock for the team, we lost the positive momentum and they immediately came up.”
Asked if Egypt star Salah will likely miss the World Cup, Liverpool boss Klopp said: “Yes, unbelievable. It is very serious, it is with his shoulder.
“He would have tried to play on [if he could have] but I have not seen him. He is possibly in hospital for an X-ray. It does not look good.”
On Karius’ mistakes, Klopp added: “Loris Karius knows it, everybody knows it. That is a shame in a game like this, in a season like this. I feel for him, he is a fantastic boy. The second mistake is because of the first one.
“The bad parts are difficult to get rid of in a game like this. Gareth Bale’s bicycle kick was unbelievable. We did what we could and the boys tried everything but it was not the best script for us.
“Everything was great until tonight. You go to the final to win it, it was proper chance for us and we did not take it.”
Real Madrid’s win moves them onto 13 European Cup triumph and the third title in succession.
For manager Zinedine Zidane, who only took over at Real in the winter of 2016, it has been a remarkable run.
He said: “To lift three Champions League trophies with this club, this team is magnificent. We don’t quite realise what we have achieved yet.
“We are going to enjoy the moment. We had a complicated season but to finish with this makes us really happy.
“I have had a little bit of time to think about what this means. This is the status of this club. It is a legendary club, one that has won 13 Champions Leagues and I am happy to be a part of its history too.”
Bale’s goal – an overhead kick off Marcelo’s cross – is one of the greatest scored in Champions League history.
Zidane himself scored a stunner in the 2002 final for Real – the then-midfielder volleying home against Bayer Leverkusen.
But Zidane was careful not to put Bale’s strike above his.
“It is not the same thing but it is just the latest thing we have witnessed. It was magnificent,” he said.
The Liverpool winger tangled with Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos in the 26th minute and despite his attempts to play through the pain, was substituted off in tears as the Reds went on to lose 3-1 in Kiev.
His injury has cast huge doubts over his hopes of being involved at this summer’s international tournament in Russia, Egypt’s first World Cup since 1990.
But although Jurgen Klopp declared Salah’s issue as a “really serious injury” post-match – the Egyptian Football Association remain confident of a positive diagnosis.
They tweeted on Saturday night that Salah had undergone an X-ray following the incident which suggested a shoulder ligament sprain rather than a dislocation, as some reports had speculated.
A dislocation would likely take at least three months to recover from, therefore seeing him out until the start of the new season.
The World Cup begins on June 14 with Egypt’s opening game against Uruguay the following day in Yekaterinburg.
The Egyptian FA added that physician Dr. Mohammed Abu Ola – who is said to have spoken directly with Liverpool’s medical staff over the player’s condition – remains “optimistic” that Salah can make the World Cup.
Salah’s injury brings an unfortunate end to an excellent debut season at Anfield which saw him score 44 goals and lay on a further 15 assists across all competitions.
His tally of 32 Premier League goals saw him set the record for the most goals scored in a 38-game season while he also claimed the Golden Boot.
The 25-year-old will be Egypt’s main man in Group A – where they face Uruguay, Russia and Saudi Arabia – if he is declared fit enough to be involved in two weeks’ time.
The former Chelsea and Roma attacker scored a stoppage-time penalty kick against DR Congo back in October to seal the Pharaohs’ World Cup qualification.
The Egyptian’s sensational debut year at Anfield has seen him sweep up a number of individual awards, including the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year and the in-club pair of gongs both last night – adding to PFA Player of the Year.
With the Premier League Golden Boot within his grasp, the 25-year-old would set a new record for the most goals in a 38-game season if he were to add to his current tally of 31 on the final day.
Liverpool face Brighton needing just a point to secure a top-four finish for the second successive season, ensuring Champions League football next term in the process.
The Reds might have pushed for a higher-placed top-flight finish had it not been for an exhaustive European campaign which has seen them book a highly-anticipated showpiece final against Real Madrid on May 26.
And Salah has been at the heart of Liverpool’s domestic and continental success with 43 goals and 15 assists – leading to rumours of interest from Champions League final opponents Madrid.
But amid such links, Salah has assured fans that he is enjoying his time on Merseyside and has no intentions to leave this summer.
“I’m very happy here, I’m very happy and everything is fine,” Salah said after receiving his awards.
“We have two games now starting with a game on Sunday. It’s a very important game and then the Champions League final but I’m very happy here.
“Of course I have got ambitions for the future with Liverpool. As you can see we had a great season and now we are in the Champions League final and everyone is excited.
“This is just the start. This is my first year here and it is the same for some other players. I didn’t watch all the games last season of the team but this year we have had an unbelievable year.
“We are very comfortable about playing in the Champions League next season. On the way to the final we beat top teams like Manchester City and Roma. It is just the beginning for this team.”
Salah was jokingly asked about his three-game wait for a goal – having not found the net in a draw to Stoke or in defeats to Roma or Chelsea.
That is the wide-man’s longest run without a goal since October, which he promptly ended with a brace away at Maribor in the Champions League which kickstarted a run of 38 goals in just 36 games.
“I’ve not scored for two [Premier League] games but I’m fine,” he laughed.
“If we [the team] didn’t score for two games, it’s not the end of the world, it is something normal.
“We have a game on Sunday then the Champions League final and I’m sure we will help each other.”
The 25-year-old has shifted the focus away from his individual battle with Ronaldo though by claiming the contest is about more than that.
“It is not going to be a final between Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo,” said Salah.
“I am playing for a great club, and we have great players, so qualifying to the final came with great team work that I cannot do alone.
“I know all of Arab people wish the best for me and they are happy every time I win, but now, at the moment, I am only thinking about the final and to bring the trophy to Anfield.”
]]>
Liverpool have been drawn against Salah’s old club in the Champions League semi-finals.
And the 25-year-old will be the centre of attention for the two-legged tie given his sensational form since his £36.9m switch from Roma to Anfield last summer.
Klopp, however, is confident the Egypt international will be able to cope with the extra scrutiny.
“With Mo, everyone likes the hype around him,” Klopp said. “When we came out for the Champions League training against Manchester City I said to the boys, ‘We go out naked because no one will notice – they are only here to see if Mo is okay!’
“The boys are smart enough and Mo is so thankful. Now we go to Rome and I don’t think the hype will be a little bit less for him. “Everybody knows how big Mo’s impact on our season has been – and they’ve played a season without him. Where would they be if Mo was still there in Rome?
“It makes it a really interesting thing and for him, it will be 100 per cent special. He is already of interest wherever we go, but it might go crazy when we go to Rome! He can deal with that, I am sure.”
Speaking to CNN International ahead of the draw, Salah said of his old team-mates: “They’ve all said, ‘We don’t want to play against Liverpool’.
“It would be nice to go back to Rome, it’s my old club. I love the fans there and they love me too. I still talk to most of the players there. We were very close to each other and we are good friends.
“Of course, I have happy memories. We played together for two years and were fighting together in all the games. We had a good time in the dressing room.”
Salah has scored 39 goals in all competitions in a stunning debut season which has seen him close in on Ian Rush’s record of 47 in one campaign.
That has seen him linked with a move to Real Madrid in the summer, but Klopp maintains Liverpool would not even entertain the idea of letting their prized asset leave.
“It’s not a situation I would even think about it,” he said. “Around nine months ago he came in to make the next step in his career, and he did it.
“He had different options and he wanted to come here. If we now always start talking after a year and is it ‘will he leave?’ or whatever, then I don’t think about. I’m confident. I don’t think, I know he will be here. That’s all.
“We have a big chance here to create something for the future. In the moment we have to deliver performances, collecting points, winning.
“The age group of the team is really good. We are still young and full of potential and all that stuff. My impression at the moment is that they are all excited about being in this group.”
Klopp insists his players will take nothing for granted in their bid to finish in the Premier League’s top four and secure a place in European football’s elite competition next season.
Liverpool are 10 points ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea ahead of their tea-time clash with Bournemouth this afternoon, and Klopp added: “When I hear people say we are already qualified for the Champions League, how can we think it is not possible Chelsea will win the next three? So now we should concentrate only on Rome? Wow.
“Bournemouth is really difficult, West Brom may be relegated and thinking completely free to create a good game for their supporters. And then Stoke might see it as their last chance.
“It is full throttle. It is not allowed we celebrate among ourselves. I see the positive things but do not feel them because there is a job to do.”
Midfielders Adam Lallana and Emre Can are still absent through injury but skipper Jordan Henderson returns following his European suspension for the second leg against City.
That’s the verdict of Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague, who says the La Liga giants have not shown any interest in the Egyptian.
Salah has enjoyed a remarkable campaign since joining Liverpool from Roma and has scored 39 goals for club and country.
The 25-year-old’s form has seen him touted as a top target for Real as they look to freshen up their forward line in the summer.
Salah has been tipped to play on the right side of Real’s attack next term, replacing Gareth Bale, who’s been linked with a return to the Premier League.
Balague has now offered his take on whether Salah will swap Merseyside for Madrid when the transfer window rolls around.
“Real Madrid have never shown an interest in Salah, and we have heard [Jurgen] Klopp saying he is not leaving too – so there’s your answer!” he told Sky Sports.
Balague’s comments come after Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insisted he’s confident that Salah will not be leaving Anfield.
“Yeah, of course,” he said, ahead of Saturday’s Premier League showdown with Bournemouth.
“It’s all about the question. It’s not a situation I would even think about it. Around nine months ago he came in to make the next step in his career – and he did it.
“To come to Liverpool, he had different options and he wanted to come here. If we now always start talking after a year and is it: ‘will he leave?’ or whatever then I don’t think about.
“It was in the German interview and he asked me pretty much the same question. Yes, I’m confident. I don’t think, I know he will be here. That’s all.
“It’s only because people always have something to write, to talk about and all the stuff. On the other side, we don’t want to change all the time – ‘now settled here, now go there in completely new surroundings.’
“We have a big chance here to create something for the future. In the moment we have to deliver performances, collecting points, winning. The age group of the team is really good.
“We are still young and full of potential and all that stuff. My impression at the moment is that they are all excited about being in this group.”
Liverpool are set to welcome Mohamed Salah back to the starting XI after the Egyptian winger was spotted arriving with the rest of the squad at the Lowry this afternoon.
The Reds have gathered at the Manchester hotel ahead of their Champions League quarter-final second leg, and fans will be delighted to see Salah among the travelling party.
The 25-year-old has been struggling with a groin injury picked up during the first-leg win over Manchester City, which forced him to miss the Merseyside derby last weekend.
However, Salah took part in training on Monday and is expected to feature when Liverpool seek to book their place in the semi-finals tonight.
Ahead of the game, Liverpool boos Jurgen Klopp urged his players to keep their cool against the Premier League leaders.
“We are in a 3-0 lead. That is better than I would have expected. If you had told me 10 days ago that this was possible, I would have said, ‘Don’t think so’. But that’s how it is,” he said.
“I am not putting pressure on ourselves. We are so close.
“If you defend at your best, it gives you the opportunity to win the game. You don’t need to score 15. With one goal, you can win it. That is exactly the plan.”
Jordan Henderson was also spotted despite being suspended for the second leg as a strong Reds squad including Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino arrived at the hotel.
Reds centre-back Virgil van Dijk also spoke on Monday about the game, which is billed as Liverpool’s biggest of the season so far.
“You can’t deny that being 3-0 up is going to be a little bit in your mind,” he said.
“But we need to go into the game with the mindset that it’s still 0-0. We want to win the game and we want to play well.
“We know how good they are, we know their strengths and weaknesses. We need to be ready for everything that is possible and we will be.
“They have got quality players all over the pitch. But we need to look at ourselves. If we play well, defend together and attack together, it doesn’t matter who plays for the opponent.
“We can make it difficult for anyone. We need to focus on ourselves and prepare very well for everything that could possibly happen. We know they need to come but we know we want to win the game.”
