After Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho and midfield partner Nemanja Matic urged Pogba to become more of a leader on the pitch, his international team-mate Hugo Lloris has issued a similar challenge ahead of the World Cup in Russia, where France will start as one of the favourites.
Pogba, dropped on occasions by Mourinho last season, has been criticised for failing to make a sustained impact in some games as well as for appearing to have more focus on his hairstyles, goal celebrations and social media interests.
But Tottenham goalkeeper Lloris says Pogba, now 25, is no longer a young player with potential but a mature professional who must start to use the vast experience he has gained after four seasons with Juventus, two at Old Trafford and 52 caps for France.
“Paul is no longer a young player,” said Lloris. “He has collected experience with his club and with the national team.
“He has a lot of talent and that label has stuck with him since the beginning.
“He has had a very good season, although people still debate it. As a football player and as a football fan, I think he had a very good season.
“He has this desire to shine with the French national team. Will he be the ‘boss’? That’s a strong word but a ‘leader’ is what is expected of him on and off the field.
“He is reaching maturity and he wants to do well. But it’s also important that he focuses on his individual performance. This is the best way, to lead by example.”
Pogba, who scored six goals and created 12 assists in 37 appearances for United last season, is one of the key players in a France squad looking to go one better in Russia than their runners-up spot at Euro 2016.

Everton suffered another miserable defeat
The truth is they don’t have to wait that long.
After the dismal display at St Mary’s Stadium, there can’t be any doubt the club is in danger of being sucked into the bottom three.
Facing a Southampton side, who had scored just nine goals in 12 League games, Unsworth’s side capitulated alarmingly.
From the moment Dusan Tadic put Saints in front in the 18th minute, the outcome was never in doubt, even if Gylfi Sigurdsson drew the visitors level immediately before the break.
Two goals from Charlie Austin on his first League start of the season and a late fourth from Steve Davis completed a one-sided win that left Unsworth forced to pick through the bones of another heavy defeat.
And while the caretaker-manager believes the prospect of back-to-back home fixtures against West Ham on Wednesday and Huddersfield on Saturday offers hope of an upturn, there is plenty of evidence to suggest Everton need more than the benefit of home advantage to turn things around.
You could say I had a point to prove
Unsworth pointed to the lack of confidence in his side that showed eight changes from the line-up that suffered a humiliating 5-1 Europa League defeat to Atalanta at Goodison Park last Thursday. That included dropping Wayne Rooney to the bench, where the former England skipper remained as the defeat unfolded.
The off-field uncertainty that has surrounded the club since Ronald Koeman was sacked was matched by the defensive display on the pitch. Southampton were good – but they didn’t have to be that good to secure three points that moved them up to mid-table.
As Everton wrestled with their own fragile confidence, Southampton took the opportunity to strengthen their own belief with Austin in particular taking his chance.
The striker admits to being frustrated at his lack of starts but he laid down a marker with two excellent second-half headers.
“You could say I had a point to prove,” he said. “But it was all about biding my time on the training pitch. Today I got my reward, and more importantly we got the three points.
“The fans can get behind us now. I know they’ve been a bit worried – and so have we, it’s not just been them.
“Let’s just push forward, get them right behind us now and let’s go on a little run because we’ve got a run coming up over Christmas and we’re going to need everybody going in the same direction.”
The pattern of the game was set when Phil Jagielka attempted to chest a free-kick back to Jordan Pickford and almost wrong-footed his own keeper after just five minutes.
Two minutes later Austin should have opened the scoring when he shot over from just 10 yards out, shortly before hitting the post with a first-time effort from Cedric’s low cross.
Tadic stepped in to give Pellegrino’s side the lead they deserved after Ryan Bertrand had led a sweeping break and delivered a low ball towards the Serb who got behind Leighton Baines and finished neatly.
Everton offered little by way of a response until Sigurdsson produced a rare moment of quality, beating Fraser Forster with a superb long-range chip.
Southampton, though, held their nerve at the start of the second half with Austin heading in from Bertrand’s 52nd-minute cross before repeating the feat from Tadic’s delivery six minutes later.
There was no chance of a response and Davis’ late strike summed up the afternoon for both managers.

The presenters branded Jamie Vardy’s wife “miserable” while discussing the day’s events on spin-off show Extra Camp last night.
The contestant did not hold back with her complaints after being sent to Snake Rock, where the group were forced to live on rations and sleep on the floor.
Speaking to Scarlett Moffatt, Joel Dommett and Joe Swash, Declan Donnelly referenced Rebekah being “annoyed” with newcomer Iain Lee, who will face the latest Bushtucker Trial tonight.
“Becky’s annoyed?” Ant McPartlin replied sarcastically, much to the amusement of his ITV2 companions.
“I think that Becky might be happier now that’s she got her luxury item though?” Scarlett, 27, suggested.
However, Dec, 42, stated: “Do you think? She didn’t even look that pleased with the pillow though, did she?”
The star was referencing the gift she was given by her family, thanks to Croc Creek’s success in the Trial.
“I think she’s just got resting b***h face, I think that’s all it is,” Scarlett again defended.
But, Ant, also 42, then blasted: “Do you think? She told the radio to f*** off. That’s not resting b***h face – that’s just miserable!”
It comes after Rebekah became the favourite to be eliminated first with odds of 2/1, according to Ladbrokes.
“Rebekah needs to change her surname to mardy because that’s all she’s being at the moment, which is now reflected in her elimination odds,” spokesperson Jessica Bridge commented.
I’m A Celebrity 2017… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9.10pm on ITV, while Extra Camp airs after the main show on ITV2.
The 32-year-old Britain, who clinched his fourth world championship in Mexico two weeks ago, dominated the day and showed no signs of easing off — or any reaction to the controversy about his alleged tax avoidance.
He and Bottas were fastest in the morning’s opening session and followed up with repeat performance in the afternoon, Hamilton clocking a best lap in one minute and 9.515 seconds to outpace his team-mate by 0.048 seconds.
Hamilton’s quickest lap in the morning was in 1:09.202, a clear margin faster than the qualifying lap record of 1:09.822 set in 2004 by Brazilian Rubens Barrichello of Ferrari.

In a session run in dry, hot, but cloudy conditions ahead of forecast rain, Mercedes led the way as they tested new parts and systems for 2018, the two drivers’ form suggesting no let-up in pace.
Australian Daniel Ricciardo was third for Red Bull, his car also running a clutch of new items, ahead of four-time champion German Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari, Mexico victor Dutchman Max Verstappen in the second Red Bull and Finn Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari.
Frenchman Esteban Ocon was seventh for Force India ahead of retirement-bound local hero Brazilian Felipe Massa, in his final home race with Williams, German Nico Hulkenberg of Renault and two-time champion Spaniard Fernando Alonso of McLaren Honda.
Hamilton said earlier Friday that while he still wanted to win, he would be happy to obey team orders, if required, to help Bottas overhaul Vettel for the runners spot. But Hamilton said he thought Bottas would prefer to make up the 15 point gap himself.
“Valtteri wants to get it on merit,” Hamilton said. “He has been working hard throughout the year and is focused more than ever, so I know he wants to do it on his own.
“But if the team asks me, then for sure! As I said before, my mentality for the last two races is to win – and I have not been told otherwise.”
He added that he had eased off two years ago after winning the title at the United States Grand Prix when German team-mate Nico Rosberg won the final races of the season.
“Two years ago, definitely, looking back, you could say the focus was not the same as it had been during the season,” he said.
“I genuinely don’t like to look back, or I genuinely don’t like to live with regret, so it is what it is, but I don’t want to be in that position again.”
“There are still two races to go. I am still in the same mental frame of mind that there are still races to be ticked off. It wouldn’t feel normal to back off at this moment,” he said.
“I’m planning to just keep the pressure up exactly the same as it’s been all year.”
Hamilton drove wearing a repainted helmet sporting four prominent stars to mark his world championship triumphs.
He said that the success of clinching his latest title had not sunk in. “The reason it’s not really sunk in is I’ve tried to stay in the zone, really,” he said.
“I think I can continue winning for a long, long time.”
Hamilton’s voice was husky but his driving appeared unaffected by the cold he developed during a trek of Machu Picchu in Peru.
“It was raining and it was cold, but I feel good again now. My voice is still not great,” the Briton said. “But I’m healthy.”

It’s easy to look at somebody powerful and say to yourself, I want that life. I want to be COO of a tech company and make millions of dollars a year and spend it on a fancy car and a personal trainer.
It’s not as easy to look at the full picture and realize said executive also works 80-hour weeks and never sees his or her family.
Which is why Spencer Rascoff, CEO of real-estate website and app Zillow, has always been careful about choosing career role models.
Before cofounding Zillow, which is now a $ 7 billion company, Rascoff cofounded the travel website Hotwire, which was bought by Expedia in 2003.
On an episode of Business Insider’s podcast, “Success! How I Did It,” Rascoff told US editor-in-chief, Alyson Shontell, a trick that’s made him so successful:
“I’ve always looked 10 years my senior and tried to find somebody at my company to think about if I want that person’s life, their whole life.”
Listen to the full episode here, or listen later with the buttons below:
Rascoff said this is basically the opposite of what most people do:
“Usually, younger people, earlier in their career people, look at a senior person and they look at their compensation, and I’m advising not to do that. So you’re an associate in the marketing department, look at the VP of marketing and say, ‘Do I want her or his work-life balance, respect in the community, intellectual stimulation of their job, title, sure, compensation, yes, but sort of the whole package?’ That’s the path you’re on.”
Rascoff’s advice dovetails nicely with an insight from former ReWork CEO Nathaniel Koloc. Koloc told the Harvard Business Review that instead of asking yourself what job you want next, you should be asking yourself, “What life to do I want?” As in: Where do I want to be five, 10, or 20 years down the line? Any decisions you make about your immediate future should reflect those longer-term career goals.
In other words, taking a job just for the high salary might be a good decision in the short term. But it’s worth thinking about how this job will help you build the overall life you aspire to in the long run.
Rascoff said, “You could wake up in the blink of an eye and end up in [your role model’s] world. And if you don’t like that trajectory, then find some other path.”

The Chaser is a long way from the ITV gameshow in the Keith Lemon-fronted hit – set to air tonight – when she channels none other than Liam Gallagher and Lorraine Kelly.
It didn’t take long for team captains Fearne Cotton and Bruno Tonioli to guess who she was trying to be, suggesting her mimicking skills were not to be sniffed at.
As she sat next to the host, Anne was asked if she came here often, before breaking into a northern accent.
“Not really, I’m from Manchester. I’m a miserable b****r, me. I’m miserable… I’ve got a brother but I don’t like my brother,” the 59-year-old stated.
After it was correctly identified as Oasis star Liam, Anne then went on to her next challenge: “I’m from Dundee… I’m lovely, everyone thinks I’m lovely. I wear beautiful dresses.”
The task saw the studio plunged into darkness before the stars got into the back of a tiny car.
The latest instalment of Celebrity Juice also features Anne’s co-star Mark Labbett, Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash as well as Kelly Brook.
The latter turned heads for all the right reasons as she stepped out in a plunging red dress, that highlighted her curves.
The 37-year-old’s ample assets were impossible to miss during the Five Second Fool challenge, which saw her forced to sit on a rotating chair.
Celebrity Juice airs tonight at 10pm on ITV2.
In a nationwide survey into the satisfaction of the nation, Brighton and Hove was crowned the happiness capital, with over a third of the city’s population choosing the word “happy” to describe their lives.
In contrast, just 16 per cent of Edinburgh residents described their lives as “happy” favouring the words “anxious” and “depressed” instead.
Brighton, renowned for its party atmosphere, beat competition from Leicester and Portsmouth to take the top spot.
Oxford, Norwich and Bristol also appeared in the top ten happiest cities to live in, while Manchester, Belfast and Cardiff all took high positions.
Marketing Director Kerry Collinge, for 9NINE Super Seed brand, which commissioned the study, said: “Brighton residents have found themselves topping our happiest city chart.
”Maybe it’s the sea air and sunny weather that keeps them smiling.’’
The study asked 3,000 Brits to consider their general life satisfaction and rate how they feel on a scale of one to ten.
Oxford came top in the life satisfaction stakes with a score of 6.72 out of ten, while Edinburgh found itself at the bottom of the table with a life satisfaction average of 5.89 out of ten.
When asked to rate their life satisfaction on a scale from one to ten the average Brit gave themselves a middling 6.37 out of ten.
Just one in ten rated their life satisfaction at nine or above, indicating excellent life satisfaction.
Researchers also looked into the ways we boost our mood and found three in five look to bed for comfort in hard times, and over half lean on family for support.
Forty three per cent play their favourite music when they need to raise their spirits with reading a book proving more popular for boosting our serotonin levels than sex.
And it’s the typical British weather which is most likely to get us feeling down in the dumps first place, with 40 per cent claiming inclement weather has a negative effect on their emotions.
Kerry Collinge added: “Our study has helped to show that when it comes to the secret of happiness the simple things in life are usually best.
“Forty winks, close friends and enough time with our favourite food and entertainment seem to keep a smile on the faces of most.”

A new study asked 3,000 Brits to consider their general life satisfaction on a scale of one to ten.
Despite having been named one of the most desirable places in the UK to live in the past, the research found Edinburgh to be the most miserable place to live in the UK.
Just 16 per cent of Edinburgh residents describe their lives as ‘happy’, favouring the word ‘anxious’ instead.
Liverpool. Southampton and Glasgow could also be found near the bottom of the table for happiness levels.
At the other end of the scale, Brighton took the title of Britain’s “happiness” capital, with more than a third of the city’s population describing their lives as ‘happy’.
The popular coastal city beat competition from Leicester and Portsmouth to take the top spot.
Oxford, Norwich and Bristol also appeared in the top ten happiest cities to live in, and Manchester, Belfast and Cardiff all took high positions.
Marketing Director Kerry Collinge, for 9NINE Seed brand, which commissioned the study, said: “Brighton residents have found themselves topping our happiest city chair.

“Happiness is at the heart of our brand. Our study has helped to show that when it comes to the secret of happiness the simple things in life are usually best.
“Forty winks, close friends and enough time with our favourite food and entertainment seem to keep a smile on the faces of most.”
Oxford came top in the life satisfaction stakes with a score of 6.72 out of ten, while Edinburgh once again found itself in last with a life satisfaction average of 5.89 out of ten.
