A Blue Origin rocket with no crew onboard failed just over a minute after lifting off on Monday.
The New Shepard rocket that took off from Blue Origin's West Texas facility on Monday was carrying cargo for research that it was going to send to the edge of space.
A livestream of the launch showed the New Shepard bursting into flames around 29,000 feet above ground. The capsule above the booster rocket then detached itself and parachuted back to the ground.
Blue Origin said on Twitter there was a "booster failure" on the flight, triggering the escape system. The capsule "successfully separated" from the rocket, the spaceflight company added.
It was the first major incident for billionaire Jeff Bezos' spaceflight company since it opened commercial services to the public in 2021.
The Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA, is investigating the incident, which it called a "mishap" in a statement sent to Insider.
"The capsule landed safely and the booster impacted within the designated hazard area. No injuries or public property damage have been reported," said the FAA.
"Before the New Shepard vehicle can return to flight, the FAA will determine whether any system, process, or procedure related to the mishap affected public safety. This is standard practice for all mishap investigations," the FAA added.

“THE WHOLE WEEK I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR A WHOLE WEEK,” one shouted.
A fan suggested: “Bugger off! What about BBC2?”
Following the press conference and Celebrity Mastermind, Strictly Come Dancing will air its live show.
Little Mix The Search is set to air next Friday at 7pm instead.

A Bat-mystery has been solved.
Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries has shed some light on the decision to not recast the role of Kate Kane, in the wake of Ruby Rose abruptly parting ways with the CW series, but instead create “a whole new character” to slip into the cape and cowl for Season 2.
As recently reported, Batwoman has put out a casting call for a new character (possibly code-)named “Ryan Wilder,” who is described as “likeable,” “goofy,” and a “highly skilled [but] wildly undisciplined” fighter. She will, hopefully sooner rather than later once Season 2 arrives in early 2021, come to adopt the vigilante persona of Batwoman.
A June 3 TVLine op-ed called into question the change-up, given how it will likely render meaningless so much of what was established during Season 1. Now Dries, in an ATX Festival At Home Q&A with fellow CW showrunner Julie Plec (of Legacies), spoke about the decision for the first time since Season 1 ended.
“To be honest with you, I did consider the ‘soap opera version’ [of recasting] for a hot minute, because selfishly we already had a couple episodes written, and transition-wise it would be seamless,” she told Plec. “But upon further reflection — and I think [Arrowverse EP] Greg [Berlanti] helped me make this call — he’s like, ‘I think we should just reboot Batwoman as a different character.’”
In addition to paying “respect to everything that Ruby [Rose] put into the Kate Kane character” during Season 1, Dries said, “it also helps the audience, because we’re not asking them to address ‘the elephant in the room’” by accepting a new face as the same person.
Dries went on to affirm that “Ryan Wilder” is “a whole new character who in her past was inspired by Batwoman, so she is going to take on the mantle,” adding that the scrappy twentysomething who lives in a van, with her plant, “is maybe not the right person at the time to be doing it, so that’s what makes it fun.”

“Please stay well, who else will keep this so called government on their toes,” a third remarked.
However, another viewer quipped: “Hope the result is negative, however your pompous behaviour won’t be missed from GMB.”
“Well all the best Piers – hope the test is negative and you’re ok. However, I won’t miss you from GMB,” someone else added.
Piers and Susanna present the show for the first three days of the week but on Thursdays Ben Shephard takes Piers place and on Friday Ben is joined by Kate Garraway.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.

Love Island fans are gearing up for the last couple of episodes of the 2019 series.
Tonight’s show started but it seemed it was a very quiet affair.
Voiceover artist, Iain Stirling, usually gives a round-up of the previous night’s action, making sure fans are ready for the new instalment.
But in tonight’s episode, Iain’s recognisable Scottish tones were missing.
Instead, Anna Vakili, Jordan Hames, Chris Taylor and Harley Brash’s dumping was shown over delicate music.
The teaser for this evening was added with just a small tune playing in the background.
However, viewers weren’t happy as they flocked to Twitter in outrage over the format change so late in the day.
One said: What the f**k is this Coronation Street opening? I want to hear Iain Stirling say “tonight” #LoveIsland.”
A second added: “Is Iain Stirling not here or?”
A third posted: “Has Iain Stirling lost his voice tonight or something?”
A fourth commented: “Where’s Iain Stirling’s voice #loveisland.”

“I just know from this intro this episode of love island is gonna be so s**t,” said a fifth.
Meanwhile, tonight’s episode showed more drama for Maura Higgins and Curtis Pritchard.
The pair got into bed after a tough double-dumping, and it seemed she was ready for some TLC.
However, Curtis admitted he was “too tired” for any funny business, but his girl was furious.
What’s more, Maura wasn’t going to let it go as she went straight to the girls to discuss how her needs were unfulfilled.
Pointless fans were expecting to tune in to see a noughties episode of the celebrity version of the show tonight but to their dismay, it was cancelled at the last minute.
The quiz show had been scheduled to appear on BBC One at the time of 19:35 according to TV guides, but it never aired.
Instead of being greeted by Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman, viewers tuned in to be met with Wimbledon tennis and the coverage of the first mixed doubles rounds.
Almost ten minutes after the episode should have aired, Sue Barker, the commentator for the live tennis coverage addressed the last minute change to the tv schedule.
She told viewers: “If you’ve tuned in to watch Pointless Celebrities, that will now be shown at a later date, we’ve got celebrities winning points here on Centre Court!”
However, some quiz fans were not happy with the alternation.
Taking to Twitter to comment, one said: “Tonight’s #PointlessCelebrities has been cancelled because of ongoing #Wimbledon coverage. #Pointless.”
Another said: “Here we go! Stand by for BBC1’s schedule going out of the window (well the #Pointless repeat cancelled and the rest delayed) #Wimbledon.”
“I’ve tuned in to watch a 2 year old repeat of Pointless Celebrities on prime time Saturday night and what do I have instead??? Live tennis. Ridiculous. #bbc1 #Pointless #PointlessCelebrities #wimbledon,” someone angered.
“And yet again #Wimbledon messes up another nights viewing just stick it on the red button #pointless,” one fan said.
Someone else remarked: “.@richardosman #pointless ousted by Andy and Serena. I hope they will be on the show in the future to compensate.”
As for what was in store for tonight’s Pointless Celebrities episode, the competing duos were made up of stars who had found fame in the first decade of the 21st Century.
Badminton player Gail Emms, who won a gold medal at the 2006 World Championships was partnered with former super-heavyweight boxer Audley Harrison, who claimed gold at the 2000 Olympic Games.
As for who was representing the acting industry, ex-EastEnders star David Spinx, who played Keith Miller joined forces with Footballer’s Wives lead Susie Amy.
Also on the show was comedienne Katy Brand who was in a team with Brian Belo, who won Big Brother back in 2007.
The final pairing hoping to get the all important Pointless answer was Lisa Maffia and Marvin `Romeo Dawkins’, whose So Solid Crew first topped the UK pop charts in August 2001.
Meanwhile, with the popularity of the show, the BBC has commissioned a new series.
The official Twitter account for Pointless announced it was on the look out for applicants.
The deadline is February 1st 2020 for anyone to submit their interest.
Pointless returns on Monday night at 5.15pm on BBC One.
Holby City was due to air at 8pm this evening, with the likes of Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel) and Ric Griffin (Hugh Quarshie) dealing with the aftermath of the events surrounding the crossover event with the emergency department on Casualty.
However, following the result of the Prime Minister’s Brexit vote this evening, which saw Theresa May’s deal rejected by MPs by a vote of 391 to 242, the show was cancelled to make way for EastEnders.
The BBC soap was pushed back for a news special programme airing in the aftermath of Parliament’s decision, and although it wouldn’t take up the whole hour, the broadcaster decided to pull the medical drama from the schedule.
Fans of the show were not happy with the news and quickly took to Twitter to express their dismay at the decision to cancel it.
One viewer posted: “Would it not be better all round if they canceled #Brexit instead of #HolbyCity?”
Another added: “Seriously, @BBCHolbyCity is cancelled tonight because there’s a Brexit vote. It’s the final straw. I’m so over this ish. #brexit #HolbyCity.”
Whilst a third commented: “@BBCOne so you took @BBCHolbyCity off our screens & postponed it till next week as you decide to put Brexit on tv! Brexit isn’t even replacing #HolbyCity it’s replacing #Eastenders so why not take @bbceastenders off instead seen as though it’s on more Times than Holby is!”
A fourth opined: “Can’t believe #HolbyCity has been bumped because of frigging #Brexit. As if we haven’t heard enough about that s**t!”
Continuing the outpour of disappointment, a fifth remarked: “I’m so p****d off was looking forward to holby city tonight and to cancel it 2 hrs before the show how dare you ahhhhh #HolbyCity.”
Referring to Casualty also not airing this Saturday, a sixth exclaimed: “I was really looking forward to #HolbyCity tonight because there’s no #casualty on Saturday.”
However, fans will be treated to a double dose of Holby drama next week as the BBC drama airs not once, but twice on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The announcement was made via the Holby City official Twitter page, reading: “BREAKING NEWS! Tonight’s #HolbyCity is postponed due to – ahem – breaking #BrexitVote news. DOUBLE TREAT next week with two Holby episodes – Tues AND Weds See you then!”
Last time viewers saw the Holby City team, lives were in peril as the hospital was hit by a sinister cyber attack, plunging the wards into darkness.
At one point, it seemed regular Sacha Levy (Bob Barrett) could succumb to his injuries after a near-fatal car crash with his daughter Bekka Levy (Francesca Barrett) and Ric’s granddaughter Darla Griffin (Naomi Katiyo) in tow.
However, friend and surgeon Jac managed to save the day with the help of her nemesis Connie Beauchamp (Amanda Mealing) who was also tying to save the life of paramedic Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson).
Both managed to pull through the emergency surgery, but they will face huge challenges as they begin the road to recovery.
Life in Holby City won’t be slowing down for Ric who discovered his 14-year-old granddaughter Darla was pregnant following the car crash.
However, will Ric support young Darla as she is set to tell her family, who follow the Jehovah Witness faith, she is expecting a child?
Following the dramatic fallout to the special crossover event, a teaser trailer for what’s to come on the BBC medical drama in the coming weeks revealed a familiar face will be returning to the fold.
Dom Copeland (David Ames) will be left reeling when he comes face to face with his former lover and abuser Isaac Mayfield (Marc Elliot). But what does the villain want?
Holy City continues Tuesday at 8pm on BBC One.

Holidays 2019: Bruges, Vienna & Cambridge are three places to visit in February (Image: Getty Images)
Where is best to go on holiday in February? Reigo Eljas, Country Director for lastminute.com, advises travellers to try Vienna, Bruges, and Cambridge for a break and great last minute deal.
Cambridge
Home to one of the oldest seats of learning in the world, Cambridge University, this small but perfectly formed city is a great historic and romantic break for February. It’s got great pubs and restaurants, scores of superb museums and a great range of independent shops to mooch around.
And of course it has some wonderful buildings, churches and architecture to admire. Of course it’s going to be a trifle chilly, but with so much to do indoors that’s never a problem here.
Holidays 2019: Where is best to go on holiday in February? Last minute deals to Bruges, Vienna and Cambridge
What to see and do
While winter might not be the ideal time to go punting along the River Cam – there are special Valentine’s deals to be had if you fancy it. Alternatively just wrap up warm and hire your own – it’s a British bucket list classic.
You’ll probably recognise parts of the city from its starring role in films such as the Theory of Everything. And you can take a short trip to the village of Granchester, as featured on the TV show of the same name. There are some beautiful grounds to explore, like the The Fellowes Garden at Clare College or the Cambridge University Botanic Gardens where no other than Charles Darwin learnt about flora and fauna.
Kings College Chapel dates back to 1446 and if you time it right you can hear their famous choir sing evensong. For those who like their war history, the Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial is vast and has a visitor centre you can find out more about the Battle of the Atlantic and other keys war events. With a city this rich in history in might be worth doing a guided tour. You can either do a walking one, but in a town literally filled with bicycles, the two-wheeled options are really good fun.
What to eat
You’ll find a great mix of pub grub and fine dining in Cambridge – and of course the classic afternoon tea. A lot of the pubs also come with a slice of history. The Eagle pub for example was where the discoverers of DNA (the secret of life) celebrated with a beer. We love a riverside drink and The Mill Pub delivers on this – you can also find the Kingston Arms nearby which does good food. There are loads of independent coffee houses to warm up and you can also try Stephen Fry’s recommendation of Fitzbillies – they’ve got cracking Chelsea Buns.

Bruges
Bruges, Belgium, is brilliant for a romantic city break. The city is totally gorgeous to look at and walk around – in fact it is so pretty that its listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site. And chocolate and beer probably rates high on most people’s food and drink lists – and this is the place to try both. It’s also easy to get to from London, either by Eurostar or via a short flight. So add in some great museums and galleries and pretty parks and you’ve got yourself a superb trip.
What to see and do
Get a great view of the city by climbing up the 366 steps of the Belfort Tower overlooking Market Square. Then find out all about the history of the city at the immersive Historium in the nearby Waterhalle building. If you’re an early riser you can head straight to Begijnhof – a collection of white houses with lovely grounds which is a now a nunnery.
It might be a bit chilly for a boat tour, but have a stroll along Bruges canals (Reie). Step into Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk (Church of Our Lady) and check out their Michelangelo marble sculpture (the Madonna and Child).
Beer can be super strong here, so visit the Bruges Beer Museum for a tasting experience. There are lots of independent breweries in the city as well – De Halve Maan Brewery specialises in zot blonde beer.

What to eat
This truly is a foodie paradise and not a place to visit if you’re counting the calories. To explain how much they love their national dish, you should visit the Friet Museum. Yes they have a whole place devoted to the humble chip. It’s in an old medieval food hall. As Bruges is by the sea you can also combine your chips with some mussels (moules-frites).
When it comes to winter warmers, you can’t go wrong with the a steaming bowl of stoofvlees – this Flemish stew is cooked in beer for extra depth. Now for the sweet stuff – grab a hot waffle from a cart in the street while you wander. You can find out more about the history of chocolate at the Choco Story Museum, but we recommend you just try them. Dumon chocolaterie is a famous shop to get some of the finest chocolate.

4* Hotel Ter Brughe , 23rd February, 2 nights departing from London St Pancras (Eurostar) from £169pp
3* Novotel Brugge Centrum, 26th February, 2 nights departing from London St Pancras (Eurostar)from £149pp
Vienna
You might not know that Vienna is the home of the snowglobe, so we think it’s the ideal place to “shake things” up a bit at the end of winter. It’s going to be cold (average temperatures around 1C) and there is always a chance of snow – but the city is even pretty under a coat of the white stuff.
Vienna was named as the best city in the world for quality of living, and it rates so highly as it’s packed with great cultural things to do. And it’s also very romantic, so perfect for a city break around Valentine’s Day. A trip here will give you major brownie points, but read on to find more reasons as to why you should visit in February.
What to see and do
Ah Vienna – to quote Ultravox’s 80s classic. Let’s start with a romantic cliche, a horse-drawn carriage ride round Vienna’s streets. They’ve been spiriting round lovers for more than 300 years, so snuggle under the blankets at sunset and see the sights. Keeping on the equine theme, the gorgeous white stallions (Lipizzans) from the world famous Spanish Riding School are based here. You can go and watch them training if you can’t book a performance.
Take a stroll around the baroque palace grounds of Schönbrunn, which is where the Habsburg royal family used to spend their summers. Fans of Strictly Come Dancing (and the Viennese Waltz) should try and get tickets to one of the fabulous balls taking place in February. The Opera Ball on February 28 is a chance to see the opera house in all its glory – and celebrate the 150th anniversary of Vienna State Opera.
The Vienna Rathausplatz (City Hall square) is transformed into a giant ice rink in February – so it’s an excellent excuse to hold hands and try and grab a selfie under the lights. And to finish off, there’s nothing more romantic than a giant ferris wheel – and Vienna may just have one of the most famous. Found at the nostalgic Prater amusement park – watch the sunset over the Danube from the top.

Holidays 2019: Don’t miss the famed horse drawn carriages of Vienna – even more romantic in the snow (Image: Getty Images)
What to eat
Nothing beats the cold like cosying up in a cafe, so you really luck out when you go to Vienna. The Viennese coffee house culture, dating back to the 17th Century, is so famous UNESCO protected it – so really you should visit as many as you can as they’re very pretty. Along with your coffee the cakes are also to die for. Get stuck into the sweet stuff starting with strudels. Then try the sachertorte (often a technical challenge on Bake Off) – this sticky and shiny chocolate cake is epic.
We should mention savoury so bring on the schnitzel. Served with delicious fried potatoes or chips, this veal dish is the speciality. Also try the Powidl – this plum jam can be spread on toast but it also comes in dumplings.

BUBBLY: Angela in 1965’s Carry On Cowboy (Image: ITV/REX/Shutterstock)
ANGELA DOUGLAS is best remembered as the glamorous, often upper-crust young leading lady in a series of Carry On films.
But she gained a different sort of fame when she shocked 1960s Britain by falling passionately in love with the actor Kenneth More, who was a household name thanks to his starring role as Second World War flying ace Douglas Bader in Reach For The Sky.
The issue was that Angela was just 21 and More was not only more than twice her age but married with a young daughter.
In a huge scandal for the time, More – renowned for playing war heroes and upright Englishmen – left his second wife Mabel to live with the petite blonde ingénue he nicknamed “Shrimp”.
Eventually he was granted a divorce and married Angela in 1968 when he was 53 and she was 27.
Their marriage was very happy but not without its ups and downs including mutual infidelities.
There was also a brief trial separation before More’s tragic battle, beginning in the late 1970s, with muscular dystrophy and Parkinson’s – during which Angela devotedly nursed him until his death in 1982.
She movingly chronicled her eventful life with More in a best-selling memoir that is entitled Swings And Roundabouts.
Now, a still youthful 77 and happily remarried since 2009 to playwright and director Bill Bryden, Angela has written her debut novel, Josephine: An Open Book, about a young actress facing challenges in life and love in the 1960s.
While it is fiction, not a memoir, Angela has drawn on her own experiences and Josephine is her real middle name.
Some of the famous people she encountered such as Roger Moore, Michael Caine and Elizabeth Taylor make cameo appearances.
But it is no fluffy showbiz potboiler.

By turns it is serious, dramatic and, at times, shocking.
The heroine, years before #MeToo, endures lewd casting-couch approaches and even rape, an unhappy marriage and serious illness. There is a central love affair with an older married man, Steve, whom a somewhat cagey Angela surprisingly insists is not based on her “Kenny”.
As for sexual harassment, Angela says she encountered it but was able to fend it off.
“It happened to me but, you know, it is all manageable. You could deal with it yourself. Even at that time, at a young age. But it was happening all over the place in the 60s and 70s.”
Angela memorably starred in Carry On Cowboy as Annie Oakley (1965), Carry On Screaming! (1966), Carry On Follow That Camel (1967) and Carry On Up The Khyber (1968).
They bring back fond memories.
“I loved every minute,” she enthuses.
“It was wonderful – such a happy time. I was working with complete professionals and it was full of humour. We laughed all day long – you came home aching and exhausted because you were laughing so much. They were films of their time. But they are still enjoyed.”

At the marriage of friends Roger and Luisa Moore in 1969 (Image: Rolls Press/Popperfoto/Getty Images)
Of her Carry On co-stars she was closest to Jim Dale – with whom she still keeps in touch – and the late Joan Sims.
“A wonderful actress and a lovely person. She did both drama and comedy brilliantly. She was very talented but under-appreciated as an actress.”
Angela, who began acting at 14, met many major stars along the way, including Eiizabeth Taylor.
“She was stunningly beautiful and very friendly, very approachable,” she recalls. Sir Roger Moore was not only a colleague but a close friend.
“I worked with Roger on stage and then he became a family friend. He was the best man at my wedding to Kenny and my husband was his best man at his wedding to [third ex-wife] Luisa. We were family. He was just completely charming.”
She also worked with Sir Michael Caine on TV police drama Dixon Of Dock Green before he found stardom in the film Zulu.
“There’s something I’ll tell you that says a lot about him,” she relates.
“We came home on the bus together and I went to pay my fare and he said, ‘How much are you getting paid for this job?’ So I said, ‘£12’. He said, ‘Well, I’m getting £15, so put your purse away. I’m paying your fare’. Isn’t that sweet? He is very kind and a complete professional.”

While Kenneth More adored his young wife and they were “ecstatically in love”, she now admits there was a controlling aspect to their relationship.
The older, established star wasn’t keen on his beautiful young wife’s career overshadowing his own.
Sadly, the family she longed for that might have compensated never arrived after she suffered a miscarriage in 1969.
Her second marriage, to Bryden – her contemporary at 76 – is more of a modern, equal partnership.

“He’s Scottish, he’s interesting, he’s caring, he’s very funny and I’m very lucky. With my first husband I was emotionally lonely but with Bill I’m not.”
She is at first reluctant to expand but suddenly adds: “The Carry On films. It’s the only thing I’m remembered for! And that’s OK. I didn’t have ambitions and I wasn’t allowed ambitions in my first marriage.
“Part of the deal with Ken was that I wasn’t ambitious and if I was allowed to work, it was secondary to him. It was a condition he made and it was like blackmail. I bought it. His career was more important. I wasn’t encouraged to work.
“No younger woman today would’ve bought that condition but I did. Why? Because I was completely in love with him. He was very controlling of me and also very caring of me. It was a mixture of both.”
SHE insists she doesn’t have regrets that her career played second fiddle.
“The only thing I regret is that my parents lost their daughter. They’d struggled to give me the chance and everything [in her career] and I didn’t consider that then. I’m considering it now. It’s a bit late.”
But there were compensations.
“I saw the world with him. I travelled, I had a beautiful home. There are always pluses and minuses in life and you have to make your decision. If you really, really love someone, you want to make them happy, to be what they want you to be. It would be completely different nowadays, I’m sure, for a young woman. The 1960s were not liberated – well not for me.”

LOVE STORY: With ‘funny”caring’ second husband Scots writer Bill Bryden at her recent book launch (Image: Tim Clarke/ Daily Express)
The Carry On films and other acting parts were allowed, she says, only when it fitted in with Kenny’s schedule.
“I remember, there was a theatre producer called Binkie Beaumont. We were all having supper and he said, ‘Kenny, I want Angela for a play. I need to check with you and see if it is all right with you’.
“And I just sat there. That happened more than once.
“But I didn’t have any mixed messages. Kenny made it very clear, right from the off, that he wasn’t entertaining the idea of living with a [successful] actress. I’m not sure he had that much respect for that profession.”
But she is philosophical. “I have survived,” she says. “You might not be talking to me if I hadn’t married Ken, if I hadn’t done the Carry On films, if I hadn’t written a few books. Do you know what I mean? I have survived.”
She is “proud” of her novel and hopes to write more and also return to acting “if anyone remembers me or wants me”.
She still uses her first married name. “I’m still Angela More. I won’t change that – I’m ‘A More’ [as in ‘amour’, the French word for love]. Why would I want to change something as lovely as that?”
